Membrane Sweep

M24L · 28/07/2021 17:54

Currently 40 +2 and had my membrane sweep today. Looking at being induced this weekend if I haven't gone before then which I don't want I really want to be able to go myself 😓

Whats everyone's sweep stories? When did you get your sweep, was it successful and if so how soon after did you feel anything/when did labour start etc?

@M24L Yeah you watch, this is were you'll have bubs out in two pushes and DH will have only just stepped foot out the house 😆 that would certainly be my luck anyway! Haha.
The poor sod, I can imagine if he had to witness that the poor fella is scarred haha. My DP was busy changing the first nappy when I was being stitched up. He had never held, or changed a nappy in his life before then and the midwives didn't help so he was petrified 😆 he was so scared he was going to hurt her whilst changing her, again, never even held a newborn before in his life. There's so much pressure on the poor sods when it happens 😆

Are you having any niggles or pains at all right now? Or feel 'different'?

M24L · 05/08/2021 21:21

@MyGrassIsBrowner yes!! That is the type of luck I have also 🥴. Haha I hope for his sake it's a little less traumatic from the eye of the bystander this time 🤣🤣.

Awk God love him, it's a worrying time as it is and I think having to do things like that while MWs are around makes you extra worried incase you do something wrong and they are right on your case 🤣.

Nothing really, my back is a bit sore and the occasional cramping feeling also for the first time in a few weeks I'm actually in bed early feeling utterly exhausted but other than that there's no signs or anything 🙃.

OP posts:
MyGrassIsBrowner · 05/08/2021 21:26

@M24L well if it's right that 2nd births tend to be quicker/easier then hopefully you're in good stead! Your bubs really is too comfortable in there 🙈 argh!

Oh he was such a sweetheart. The midwife belittled him at one point he asked her if she would show him how to swaddle her and she abruptly replied NO WE DONT SWADDLE. He must have wanted the ground to swallow him up poor sod I still cringe when I think about it he just thought he was doing the right thing and wanted a bit of guidance whilst his poor fiance was having her vagina stitched up 😆

I dont blame you for being in bed, you need all the sleep you can get now cause lady you've got a big day ahead of you tomorrow!!

M24L · 06/08/2021 05:31

@MyGrassIsBrowner I hope so, I was my mums second and I was almost born in the car on the way to the hospital which was 10 mins from the house so here's hoping this little one shoots out 🤣 although going by her too comfy attitude I can see her taking her time.

Oh how rude of her. At least he asked and was willing to listen, I feel sorry for the partners during labour its like they are just there clueless of what to do and say poor souls.

The early night was just a waste of time haha ive seen every hour on the clock again and been wide awake since 4.

DH is off to work so I'm going to gut the house and make sure everything is perfect to bring a baby home too 😁💞.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 06/08/2021 07:37

@M24L Yes well she's outstayed her welcome now!! 😅
Argh I'm so excited for you now! Can imagine today you'll get that sudden burst of energy and be running around like a mad woman!

I've got that bloody pregnancy rhinitis (think it's called) I've woke up with one nostril fully blocked. I'm getting so congested during the day too. I do keep fretting that it might be something more sinister but the congestion is literally my only symptom and I do remember having it with my DD 🙄

Eeeek so excited for you today! Xx

Vie8126 · 06/08/2021 08:10

@M24L I woke up today convinced you would have had bubs... But not long to go now eeek.

Yeah I defo didn't have enough clothes I could go for a walk round hospital after waters gone but didn't trust I wouldn't flood out so walked up and down outside mat unit then thought nah I'm going back!

DP won't get much sleep while you are in overnihjt I can guarantee mine kept texting 'anything?' as was so worried he would miss something. In the morning I was like oh I'm fine nothing happening honestly pop to the gym before coming here then in the space of 15 mins was like erm they just broke my water he was in such a panic what do I do what do I do midwife was saying he can't come up until established labour but you could meet him outside for a walk at 9.30 (as they knew they were going for the drip at 10.30) he flew up the hospital at 6.30am and sat in the Costa (which I'm pretty sure we now have shares in over the two days at the hospital we spent over 100 on shop stuff Costa and parking!!)

Repacking your bag right, drinks take some drinks as they do tend to leave you overnight and its a zillion degrees, I wish I'd had like a cold flannel or something or a handheld fan some kind of cooling device as the heat is unbearable (no air con because of covid) defo lots of snacks sweet and savoury (the breakfast option was just rice krispies or weetabix neither really float my boat!) I was nil by mouth once on the drip other than water or lucazade sport the flat one in the sports bottle so sent DP to the shop for loads of them.... Extra knickers and pads I packed a pack of 12 pads thinking I wouldn't wear them until after and would go home same day... Although I did go home same day I didn't factor having to wear them after waters breaking (blindly assumed I would be in labour by thay point!) and more knickers!! Ipad and headphones and something yoh want to binge without dp on Netflix 😊 I saw loads of people say extra long charging lead and didn't thibk anything of it but it's coz the plugs are so far away you can't have your phone near you whilst on charge (at my hospital anyway) I managed but if I went back in time it would be easier. I can't think of anything else!! You never know you still have time or may need the tiniest bit of help to just get going. Keep us posted!!! Try to have a nap or something today if you're tired you might need your energy later.

@MyGrassIsBrowner omg the piles noone tells you about them do they! I am majorly struggling with them and number 2s it's giving me belly ache and back ache. Midwife out today so going to ask her about a laxative of some kind as it's all so painful down there 😭 poor DP he was only asking a question mine would have felt the same. He is really inquisitive and likes to know the ins and outs of everything and he went to get some lunch and the midwife was all hmm he likes to ask a question doesn't he is this his first baby nope he jisy loves a question!!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 06/08/2021 08:50

@Vie8126 They never tell you about the piles no!!! The f*ckers! To be honest I pushed my DD out that hard no wonder I ended up with piles I'm fairly sure I turned my bowel inside out 😆
Midwife will probably tell you to take lactulose but if you're struggling to actually go people keep telling me about gylcerin suppositries and you can buy them over the counter/off the shelf I believe.

I couldn't go after my DD, took me a whole week before I went (was too scared about ripping my stitches, so mentally not allowing myself to go) and my god it was horrific. Had to end up doing manual removal in the end which was the lowest point of my life I think.. ever 😅

Vie8126 · 06/08/2021 09:54

@MyGrassIsBrowner well I'm not alone on the manual removal haha that was me yesterday I jisy coukdnt push it out 😂 things I never thought I'd say. But having not gone for over a week (although does shitting the actual bed when giving birth count?!) I managed to go today I was so happy no help or assistance needed wow actually feel like a new woman. Same with the turning inside out. I've just been too worried about pushing my uterus out to push down haha. Next up on real life birth.... Wetting yourself 😂 I wonder when I will be able to walk around without a towel to catch them little leaks lol. Off to look up the suppositries.....

MyGrassIsBrowner · 06/08/2021 10:02

@Vie8126 These are all the PP effects that no one talks about and it's quite sad really. I' glad you got some relief though chick, totally know what you mean about feeling like a new woman though, it changes you doesn't it? 😆
With me having a rectocele, pushing for a poo I can feel the bulge towards the back of my vaginal wall which can be disconcerting sometimes. No doubt it'll get worse during menopause and I'll probably need corrective surgery in the future as I think it's probably past the point of being repaired by pelvic floor execises alone 🙄
Oh it's all so glamorous isn't it! X

Vie8126 · 06/08/2021 11:09

@MyGrassIsBrowner oh god yes it should be more openly discussed! I 100% feel that I had that after my DD 12 years ago but I have managed to get by with going when needed, not getting too constipated, raising my knees it was a huge concern of mine of how things would be after this bubba. I need to give myself time too as only 5 days pp atm and looking for miricles! I find pelvic floor exercises quite hard prob the previous damage of two hard vaginal deliveries so will see how it goes over the next few weeks.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 06/08/2021 12:02

@Vie8126 now is time to look after yourself, body and mind. I'll be honest I'm wishing the days away now to pop this one out as I want to get back to my pre-pregnancy body. (Selfish I know) but im miserable. Covered in stretchmarks in places I didn't know they'd appear.. my fucking pubic mound of all places? Lol. I have to just laugh now, I think I've cried all the tears I have left now 😆
I've been told by a few people I may need to see an osteopath after this one. I'm like jesus christ I'm having to see specialists before I'm 30 cause my body is totally f*cked. Wouldn't mind I'm also panicking as I'm getting married in May and doubt I'm going to be able to lose all of my baby weight before then.

M24L · 06/08/2021 13:12

@MyGrassIsBrowner she sure has lol, house is fully prepared for her to make her appearance now lol.

Oh I haven't heard of that, is it like the cold? Hopefully it passes soon mrs there's nothing worse 😓.

I'm praying I get to hospital and I'm like 3cms dilated and can have my waters broken straight away haha 🙌 xx

OP posts:
M24L · 06/08/2021 13:26

@Vie8126 Nope unfortunately she's still too stubborn to want to meet her eagerly awaiting family 🤣.

I'm so worried about not having enough clothes haha! Would you recommend more pjays than actual clothes?

The poor soul has been up since 4 today so I hope he manages to get some sort of sleep. I called the hospital and they said latest visiting is quatre past 8 so he can't come in tonight which I find crazy as they don't know if I could be in labour or not (I don't think I am) but I could go in and be like 4cms dilated and hes basically been sent home.

She said as soon as I go to labour ward he can come in so if they need to break waters as long as they have a space in the labour ward he can be with me which I suppose is a good thing and at least they aren't waiting until I'm like about to push. We were going to get parents to watch DD tonight but thinking of just letting her stay at home with DH tonight so shes not staying out too long.

I am so grateful for your list of stuff to pack lol as I would have forgotten the likes of juice etc. I have to go out and get another bag to pack stuff as I've ran out of space in the one I have 🤣 also forgot to pack socks previously so thank god I've had to re-look at the bag for like the 20th time!

I have plenty of pads packed, also breastpads. One thing I'm not sure about though is the car seat... do I take it with me or does DH bring it when he comes to take us home? I can't for the life of me remember what happened with DD1 but I'm just like surley that will be a pain carrying all the bags and a car seat from labour ward to maternity ward etc?

I've not managed a nap today tbh I'm trying to keep going so if I have to sleep in hospital (not in labour) then I'll be tired enough to dose off. I hate staying anywhere else but my own home. Xx

OP posts:
Vie8126 · 06/08/2021 14:01

@M24L oh bless you prob quite a good idea tbh you'll sleep later for sure. Tell DP to linger around the hosp somewhere whilst they examine you so you can update him and he doesn't get too far home maybe?

We took mine and baby's bags up but had the car seat in the car on the isofix base all ready and just left it there then when we was waiting for paperwork to leave DP took all the bags down and bough car seat up.

Ooh I thought of another flip flops!! We're a god send for walking back and forth after waters had gone and didn't matter if got wet. Defo more pj's or leggings and loose tops. I asked for hospital gown to give birth in. It was so hot and sweaty in there you might welcome extra clothes (or like me they just get soaked by amniotic fluid!)

M24L · 06/08/2021 14:41

@Vie8126 I hope so lol, knowing my luck though I'll go into labour tonight and end up absolutely exhausted 🤣🤣.

I was thinking that but stuck in a rut of wether to send DH home with DD or have him wait and have someone watch DD.

Yeah I had said to DH we can install the carseat to the isofix base today and just leave it in the car but I was so confused as to how it happened last time lol for some reason I felt like I had the carseat with me at all times but I must be wrong 🤣🤣.

I have sliders ready to go as that is literally all my feet fit into, ive not been able to wear shoes or trainers since about 28 weeks 🙃.

I have 3 pairs of pjays so far, a coming home outfit, the outfit I'm wearing today, bikini top in the hope that I can have my water birth and thats about it 😬.

OP posts:
MyGrassIsBrowner · 06/08/2021 16:10

@M24L Eeeeek so excited for you! @Vie8126 has some great advice re what to take. I am noting all this down for my section!

I had to take the carseat in with us, otherwise the midwives wouldn't let us leave 😒 I do wonder how you go about it if you or partner literally dont drive though?

My priority in my hospital was snacks and drinks, the hospital food I've experienced at my hospital was bloody vile 😆 I know it's not gonna be 5* but c'mon! At least make it edible haha!!

M24L · 06/08/2021 18:46

@MyGrassIsBrowner today has just flew away, I felt like I had ages to go and now I'm currently sat in a bath too comfy to even consider moving and I still have to pack my other bag 🤣😬 and I wonder why this baby is so laid back 🤣🤣.

I really don't want to be carrying a carseat around with me especially when we won't be leaving hospital without DH and the car anyway.

I've stopped and grabbed some snacks today, just enough to last me tonight because I have full intentions on being home tomorrow 🤣🤣 if not DH will just have to supply comfort food at the visits tomorrow while listening to me complaing about having to stay longer than I wanted.

OP posts:
MyGrassIsBrowner · 06/08/2021 20:16

@M24L been thinking about you all day! (Not in a weird way, promise 🙈)
Are you in hospital yet??
Had a massive cry earlier, my DD been playing me up all day and I am in so much pain with this PGP, worrying about this one not holding out until my section date, and then everytime I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror I wanna vom (I truly look like shit atm and have real bad acne all over my chin that's painful as hell!)
Im so blessed to be having another one but boy I dont feel like it 😩

I hope you have that blumming baby tonight. I want updates lady!!!!! Arghhhh 🤪❤

M24L · 06/08/2021 21:42

@MyGrassIsBrowner yeah I'm in now, currently waiting to be examined and then they will make a decision of what's to happen.

Oh no I hope your ok now? Those hormones will not be helping either I wouldnt imagine.

We are allowed to look rubbish from time to time especially since you have another life practically taking over your body its hard work mrs.

I'm hoping either tonight or early morning. My DD broke her heart crying when I was leaving as she didn't want me to go away 😭😭 so I need home to my baby ASAP.

OP posts:
MyGrassIsBrowner · 06/08/2021 23:01

@M24L Argh I hope they actually plan on doing something tonight and not leave you until tomorrow!

I'm okay now, DP just got home from work sobbing as well, it was his last day at his current workplace and the emotions hit him. God we look like a family of mentalists 😆

Oh your poor DD I can only imagine 😭 she's going to have a sibling though omg. She'll be the most amazing big sister!

I'll be up tonight until a fair time so I'll keep checking in on any updates! Good luck lady! Sending hugs xxx

M24L · 06/08/2021 23:47

@MyGrassIsBrowner so after an examination I'm actually 2-3cms dilated. Baby wasn't happy with the examination though so got to stay on the monitor a bit longer as her heartbeat shot down quite fast.

Poor babys like your not evicting me 🤣.

Waiting to see if they are going to break my waters or not.

Awk God love you both, sounds like you both need a nice chilled night let those emotions out though 💖.xxx

OP posts:
MyGrassIsBrowner · 06/08/2021 23:57

@M24L eeeek that's so exciting! Haha your bubs really is a stubborn little buggar 😆
Hopefully if they break your waters baba will come QUICK!! 🤞🤞🤞

Aww bless you lovely ❤ we're a right pair me and him honestly 🤣 xxx

M24L · 07/08/2021 00:13

@MyGrassIsBrowner she really is haha, she's not up for coming out I don't think haha! Far too comfy in her mummys tummy 💞

Apparently if they break my waters I can't have a water birth but if I go myself or with one prostin i can so not really sure what the plan is now as the MW knows I'm really aiming for the CMU rather than labour suit. She done a very through sweep also though so here's hoping something happens while I wait haha.

Perfectly suited to one another haha. Too right Mrs, I hope you are both OK 🥰xxx

OP posts:
MyGrassIsBrowner · 07/08/2021 00:29

@M24L why is it they wont let you in the MLU if they break your waters? 🤔
Argh I hope you get on the MLU, will be so much more relaxing and you can take your time with it all. I gave birth in the pool and admittedly it was soooo relaxing. Takes the weight off your bump too!
Hopefully that sweep is what kicks things off for you.

Aww thank you, we're good, catching up with ye olde Love Island!! 😆
Sending hugs! Xxx

M24L · 07/08/2021 01:02

@MyGrassIsBrowner tbh I'm not actually sure I'm sure she said it's to do with having my waters broken means I'm being induced where as with the prostin I'm technically going myself. She said the labour ward would need to break my waters also so I imagine because I'd be down there then they wouldn't allow me to then move from labour to CMU.

I've been having some strong BH, she said she was going to say to them how much I want a water birth so here's hoping 🤞🤞.

Sounds bliss lol xxx
