Membrane Sweep

Currently 40 +2 and had my membrane sweep today. Looking at being induced this weekend if I haven't gone before then which I don't want I really want to be able to go myself 😓

Whats everyone's sweep stories? When did you get your sweep, was it successful and if so how soon after did you feel anything/when did labour start etc?

Night she arrived the next morning so worked for me!!

M24L · 28/07/2021 18:06

@Sunshinedaisymeadowsxx was it your first baby? This is my second, got the sweep this afternoon and crossing everything that signs start at some point tonight 🤣🙈

She was my 2nd , I started getting twinges about 8/9pm, sweep was at 11am… I was 7cm by 1am…. Fingers crossed for you! 🙈🙈

M24L · 28/07/2021 18:13

@Sunshinedaisymeadowsxx aw how good, this has given me some hope 🙌 did you do anything after the sweep to help bring labour on? I was told to stay active so I've been hoovering and bouncing on the birthing ball

Literally nothing at all… well I went back to work for the afternoon 🤣 I was due to finish work 2 days after, the day before my planned induction! I’d stay as active as possible, go for a walk!!

Vie8126 · 28/07/2021 18:47

@M24L what did midwife say about your sweep? For some they work for others not so much. I'm 39 and 4 and have had 2 neither of which have done anything much so far second was only yesterday (4th baby) . Plenty say they work magic I think it depends on your body and if its favourable. Was you already dilated? Effaced etc then it's all good. Some say midwifes couldn't even reach cervix to the the sweep and then go into labour anyway within hours! It's really hard to judge. Fingers crossed for you that labour happens sooner rather than later xx

M24L · 28/07/2021 18:48

@Sunshinedaisymeadowsxx thank you 😊 I'm keeping myself busy and going to try some spicy food and pineapple haha so fingers crossed something happens 🤞

@Vie8126 hey, the midwife said that my cervix was open enough to perform the sweep (im assuming this meant I was of some form dilated) I asked if she thought I would go into labour with the sweep and all she said was I have every chance of it. Also told me to stay active and try pineapple, I guess it really is just down to wether or not your body takes to it.

Have you been having any twinges etc since your sweep yesterday?
Thank you, I was induced with my first baby so was really hoping to do it myself this time around without any assistance. With my first I had 2 pessarys a sweep then another pessary and labour finally started.

@Sunshinedaisymeadowsxx I'm so jealous of this- was there a reason she allowed it at 37 weeks? My midwife has said she won't do one til my due date so full 40 weeks 😒

Sunshinedaisymeadowsxx · 28/07/2021 19:29

@c307 I was consultant lead as she was a dinky Dora (my first was small so hence the consultant). So I had induction planned at 37+5 and I cheekily asked for a sweep at my consultant apt. 🤣

Mumoftwo2021 · 28/07/2021 19:49

I had one last week at 38 weeks (3rd baby), and I had some cramping & backache but nothing happened.
Has another sweep today at 39 weeks and she was very thorough, felt like her arm was up there 😳😂
So fingers crossed this works, I’ve had pain and cramping and some backache so will keep you posted. Good luck! Xx

Strokethefurrywall · 28/07/2021 20:15

Sweep at 9.30am (37+5), baby arrived 4pm after 4 hour labor with DS1.

M24L · 28/07/2021 20:25

@Mumoftwo2021 thank you, fingers crossed for you too 🤞 my backache has been somewhat sorer since the sweep I've had to take a few sit down breaks while cleaning the house, I think I may be starting to lose my plug but not 100% (basing this on comparing what's happening to me to pictures on google 🤣🙈)

Hopefully we both go sometime soon and get to meet the little ones

M24L · 28/07/2021 20:26

@Strokethefurrywall that was quite fast, had you had any pains or anything prior to the sweep?

OP posts:
Mumoftwo2021 · 28/07/2021 20:56

I haven’t lost any plug or had any bleeding @M24L after either, I did go on my ball for a while before but it’s was quite uncomfortable. We’ve DTD hoping it helps 😂 I’m due another sweep tomorrow 😳 which was already booked in and I wasn’t going to go due to having one today, but the midwife suggested I still go.
If I do go into labour it’s probably from shock and so much prodding!
Don’t seem to have any new symptoms yet. Do you? Xx

M24L · 28/07/2021 21:06

@Mumoftwo2021 I haven't got any bleeding of blood tinges going on just a sort of thick snot like discharge when wiping.

Another one tomorrow, god I feel for you and hopefully you go tonight 🙏 your body will feel done in if you have to have another tomorrow, its not the nicest of feelings 😢

Nothing yet for me either I got so excited when I seen the discharge but nothing has come of it so now I'm doubting it haha!

Mumoftwo2021 · 28/07/2021 21:15

I know, i am already sore down there as it is, but I’d rather it start naturally than be induced Friday as I’m a bit scared about it.

Feel like the sooner I go to sleep the sooner I will wake up knowing if anything has happened, but struggling to switch off my brain 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ Xx

M24L · 29/07/2021 04:46

@Mumoftwo2021 I completely understand that tbh given the chance I would go back in for another just to avoid the induction 😓

I felt so tired, went to bed Earlish and have been up 3 times for the loo and still nothing, tbh I dont feel as if I've even had a sweep now 😢😢

My MW attempted a sweep at 40+2. She couldn’t even feel my cervix. I was gutted. Totally convinced I’d need to be induced and doubly gutted as of planned a homebirth.

Baby was born the next evening after a labour that lasted less than three hours from the very first twinge to having baby in my arms.

Good luck OP, you’ll have your baby soon Flowers

Mumoftwo2021 · 29/07/2021 09:11

@M24L morning hun, how are things? I’ve woke up normal 😳🤷🏼‍♀️😂 no baby yet.
Another sweep booked this afternoon then induction tomorrow morning.

Hope things have started happening for you! Xx

Vie8126 · 29/07/2021 09:27

@M24L I was 1cm at first sweep last week and same this week for 2nd was more effaced and softer but just nothing happened. I found it all quite painful so was very sore yesterday and unable to keep mobile much. After first one I had some spotting and lost some of my plug. Nothing this time. Dtd last night in the hope it would start something! Keeping mobile today housework and dog walking as much as my pgp pain will allow! I've never been induced always gone into labour without intervention just feel like I'm running out of time!

Hope something starts for you today and everyone else that's had sweeps and not wanting inductions fingers crossed!

Mumoftwo2021 · 29/07/2021 09:32

@Vie8126 mines similar to you, 1cm cervix is soft, but had no plug or spotting. dTd last night in the hope it helps but who knows if anything has changed in there 😂
Same time is ticking, I’ve got 24 hours to kick start naturally.

With DS1 & 2 waters went first, pretty textbook so New territory for me x fingers crossed for you x

Vie8126 · 29/07/2021 09:37

@Mumoftwo2021 my DP wasn't really game it's all the talk of feeling baby's head at the sweeps but he manned up and dtd 😂

So frustrating isn't is, my first 3 contractions jusy started so new for me too I jusy blindly assumed that I'd have my 38 week sweep be immediately 5cms and baby would fly out withing a few hours 😂😂😂 how silly of me!

What time you in tomorrow?

M24L · 29/07/2021 09:47

@SaveWaterDrinkGin omg that's brilliant I bet you were glad? I have until Saturday night before I've to go in for my induction so I'm praying something happens although I really don't think anything will 😓 thank you 💞

OP posts:
M24L · 29/07/2021 09:48

@Mumoftwo2021 I'm sorry to hear nothings happening yet, hopefully after today's sweep something starts 🤞

Nothing for me yet either I don't even feel as though I've had a sweep tbh so I'm a bit deflared today but got to try and keep some hope xx
