Membrane Sweep

Currently 40 +2 and had my membrane sweep today. Looking at being induced this weekend if I haven't gone before then which I don't want I really want to be able to go myself 😓

Whats everyone's sweep stories? When did you get your sweep, was it successful and if so how soon after did you feel anything/when did labour start etc?

@Vie8126 congrats lovely! Love to hear a birth story! 😍

@M24L
Oh you poor sod, how bloody frustrating but a goood sign if you're losing your plug! Hopefully baba gets a trot on now! 🤞 must admit, I'm super jealous right now, I'm only 30+3 but totally over this pregnancy now. I think my bubs is transverse as well, not feeling the low down movement like I did with my DD at this stage and I am constantly uncomfortable. I've got horrific PGP which would totally make sense if she's transverse.
She was transverse at my last growth scan so I'm thinking the little buggar hasn't moved position since 😩 i know there's still plenty of time for her to move but I'm soooo fed up. Argh! Xx

M24L · 02/08/2021 13:44

@Mumoftwo2021 I have my fingers crossed for you that something happens soon, you must be exhausted with all the prodding and pains and the waiting 😢 have you tried anything else? Like spicy currys etc DH brought me home a salt and chilli beef Chow mein on Friday night and the Saturday after eating it was when I lost the most of my muccus plug so I'm opting for some more spicy food tonight lol.

My mums took DD1 for a wee while as she said I looked quite uncomfortable after the hospital so I've came home and gutted the house from top to bottom, currently sitting on my ball eating pineapple and planning a walk with DD and DH when he's home from work.

These 2021 babies really are something else having us all waiting and putting us through the ringer lol xx

@MyGrassIsBrowner it's a pain as I with the sweep I at least knew there was like a 48 hour window of it possibly happening now it really is just a waiting game but with babys head being down so low, fingers crossed something starts happening.

Oh no Mrs I completely sympathise with you, I hope your next few weeks fly in 😓 have you tried any of the positions to try get baby to move? Here's a link I had come across when reading up about oblique babies a while back. Not sure if it will be of much help but always worth a look 😉 www.healthline.com/health/pregnancy/transverse-baby#medical-and-diy-options

@M24L it's the waiting for something to kick off that's agonising isn't it, I totally feel you! I was 40+6 with my DD and that final week was hellish. I've said to my DP I dont think I can mentally or physically deal with going past 40 weeks this time! The eviction notice starts at 37 weeks! 😂
Oooh thanks for that link I'll have a look at that! I know it recommends getting into a position that is basically head down, ass up, but I dont even know if my body could handle that right now 😆 sure DP would find it highly entertaining!
Honestly though, I cannot recommend sex enough, I know the thought of it alone at this point is enough to make anyone wanna vom but that sperm is magical stuff! 😆 in more ways than one apparently haha! Xx

Vie8126 · 02/08/2021 17:02

Hopefully all you ladies won't have much longer to wait!!!! I have everything crossed for you guys xxx

Was very quick I said 4hrs but looking at my notes it was first stage 3hrs 12 and pushing for 14 mins so was over quick but was very intense because of the drip. Yes scans were so out he was 6lb 11 approx at 36 weeks and only weighed a whole pound more at term plus 1 even when I went in the midwife was like oh this is at least an 8.5lber. I had a LOT of water!!!!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/08/2021 18:24

@Vie8126 did you come away with any tearing if you dont mind my asking? I had 2nd degree internal tear with my DD, but I've also come away with low grade rectocele as well, so I'm kinda petrified about giving birth again this time in case it worsens it. I am actually booked in for a section on the 4th October but I'm conflicted now as my original plan was for a homebirth this time. It's so difficult to decide what might be best!

M24L · 02/08/2021 20:06

@MyGrassIsBrowner yes!! It's the waiting and not knowing when it's going to happen or if its even going to happen, apparently the average date for babies is 40+8 which will be me tomorrow so here's hoping 🤣🤞. I was prepared for eviction at 36 weeks I honestly thought I was going to go early but here I am still cooking her 🤣.

Yes there was a position on there that involved doing that lol maybe even try it with a pregnancy ball which will maybe help you get lower bit by bit rather than getting down and the possibility of not being able to get back up lol.

Well we went a nice walk this evening, im currently waiting on my spicy dinner after a drive over the back roads which was extremely bumpy 🤣 literally trying anything at the moment so we will 100% be DTD somethings got to work 🤣🤔xx

M24L · 02/08/2021 20:16

@Vie8126 I'm so glad to hear the whole labour/birthing part went so quick. You've given me hope lol.

Isn't it crazy how they can get it so wrong, in this day and age you would think things would be a bit more updated and accurate with the way technology is evolving.

OP posts:
MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/08/2021 20:26

@M24L I'll be damned if you DTD doesn't kick things off. Put a pillow under your bum afterwards and let the sperm do it's work as well! I found just laying on my side and letting DP doing the work was the most comfortable position. Haha it's all so glamorous isn't it 😆
You poor buggar, I've honestly got everything crossed for you right now!! Do you have a breast pump? Have a go on that as well if you do, or just some manual stimulation. Ask DP to do it for you, he'll think xmas has come early! 😆
Yeah I think I might well do that actually, I'm currently on Amazon looking at birthing balls!! Xx

M24L · 02/08/2021 20:43

@MyGrassIsBrowner with the fact her head is so low I'll be dammed if nothing I've tried today works 🤣🙈 thank you for the tip lol, I'll try the pillow later on if I can lift my hips up that much 🙈 yeah side on is the best for us also lol everything else is either uncomfortable or the big bump is in the way 🤣

I haven't got a pump yet as I was hoping to decide once baby was here and we had established a supply. I've been so stuck on what one to get so had been advised it was best to wait and then decide. I keep meaning to order the haakaa pump though to catch the excess from the opposite boob when baby is feeding, ill actually nip on and order it tonight as its needed regardless lol.

I got my birthing ball from sports direct, it's a yoga ball I suppose but it does the same. I'm sure DH only paid like £8 for it and it also came with a pump, I'm never off it haha xx

OP posts:
MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/08/2021 21:15

@M24L that is very true! God I hope they get a move on now argh! I feel a bit rude, are you having a boy or girl by the way, or not found out?!
Good luck tonight! 🤞

I've got the Bellababy double breast pump off Amazon, I used it for a few weeks with my DD and it was fab. It's currently £49.99 which I'm pretty sure is what I paid for it myself. I just found it handy to express and get some stored for when I could FINALLY go to bed and then at least DP could keep her fed.

Sports direct is a good shout actually. They're coming up at bloody £20+ on Amazon grr! Xx

M24L · 03/08/2021 06:03

@MyGrassIsBrowner were having another little princess 💖 nothing happened during the night apart from my usual hourly toilet trips 😴 I swear my body is well and truly ready for the night feeds, I might even manage to sleep longer than I have been 🤣.

Is the bellababy an electric or manual pump? I was considering electric as this is my first time attempting BF and due to covid there wasn't any groups or anything I was able to attend so I'm only armed with some Google information and a free online course on how to BF and I thought electric would be best as it would basically do the job itself rather than me having to work out how to do it manually and possibly not doing it correctly. I ordered the haakaa last night due to be delivered today for £10 I couldn't not give it a try.

I was the same I think I complained to DH so many times about the prices of the balls on amazon and when he seen that one in sports direct he was over the moon 🤣 so was I tbh because I was contemplating not getting one as I just couldn't justify spending £20/£25 on a rubber ball 🤣 xx

Mumoftwo2021 · 03/08/2021 09:38

@M24L with both of my two I used the medela swing which is electric can’t fault it.

Honestly thought last night was the night, woke up at 11.30pm wide awake, nausea, the runs, urge to go sort my hospital bag out.
Cramps, just couldn’t sleep and felt it was time to be ready for things. Eventually went back to bed at 2am - woke up this morning NOTHING 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️ Like what is going on ??

Any more symptoms after your sweep? Xx

MyGrassIsBrowner · 03/08/2021 09:42

@M24L it's an electric one hunnie, and it's got an array of different settings on it which is fab, and so easy to use. It's super powerful too, I couldn't have it on its strongest suction as it hurt 😆

Bloody hell ladies I'm so sorry nothing is happening for you, I'm genuinely frustrated for you both.
I woke up and had a cry this morning, I'm so fed up and I've got another month to get through yet. 😩 xx

M24L · 03/08/2021 09:46

@Mumoftwo2021 the medela swing is one I've been swaying towards more than any other as I've heard so much good stuff about it.

Oh no Mrs 😢 maybe its a sign and your going to go very soon. Its so frustrating when there's all the aches, pains and signs leading in the right direction then it just amounts to nothing 😭 I'm praying for you that it happens soon, when are you due to go back?

The sweep was unsuccessful yesterday as she couldn't reach my cervix due to babys head being too low down. I've been feeling more pressure than normal, walked a bit yesterday, bounced on my ball, tried spicy dinner, ate pineapple and nothing. DTD and about 5 mins later had cramping but just like yourself it never came to much. These babies really are keeping us waiting 😢 xx

OP posts:
M24L · 03/08/2021 09:51

@MyGrassIsBrowner I'll need to have a wee look at that one as well then, the price is a great starting point as some pumps and just ridiculously dear.

Awk love, ypur allowed to have a cry. You never know though mrs you might find baby makes a nice early appearance for you 🤞 not too early ofcourse.

@M24L Breast Pump,Portable Dual Breastfeeding Pump with 4 Modes 9 Levels, BPA Free, Memory Function, Rechargeable Breast Milk Pump with 10Pcs Breastmilk Bags (Light Blue) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B081SL2W1L/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_5JZWY7SB8DKYPMXSPKSX?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

(I think I've linked it correctly)
Price point it's a steal! My friend spent hundreds on the Elvie as it's so raved about, she only used them a month and next minute they were on sale on Marketplace 😆 the Elvie would have been useless for me as I have maahoosive boobies lol.

I keep finding myself wishing she'd make an early appearance but then at the same time it can be quite problematic when they do, you cant win! Anytime from 37 weeks though, she's more than welcome to make her debut 😆 xx

Mumoftwo2021 · 03/08/2021 09:59

@M24L yea they are good, I bought my second swing off eBay because it was a third of the price and just sterilised it when it arrived!
I’m very excited to meet these babies that are keeping us on edge 😂 hopefully they are much better behaved when they are here 🤦🏼‍♀️ Xx

Frustrating isn’t it, maybe keep DTD as much as u can 😂 if your DP will participate.
I know so frustrating I feel like I’m crying wolf to my OH each time. I am waiting on a call to go in and finish the induction by having my waters broken and the drip, they told me average is 2-3 days wait and today is day 3, I was hoping things would progress naturally before then but maybe not. I’m just keeping busy so the days pass quicker. Yesterday there were 2 ladies in front of me on the list, so hopefully their little ones fly out soon.

What day is

Vie8126 · 03/08/2021 11:33

@MyGrassIsBrowner I was super lucky no tears a couple of small grazes but nothing to worry about. I am concerned about how my pelvic floor will be and petrified of a number 2! I had the same after my last vaginal birth undiagnosed but I'm sure that was the issue.

The sports direct balls will be fine my hospital has the fitness ones rather than birthing balls it's rubber and round and you can bounce it will be fine!!

@M24L I hope you aren't too uncomfy with baby's head so low!!! I really hope you don't have long to wait.

Hope DTD worked a bit! Like mygrassisbrowner I just laid on my side and let him get on with it... Oh the romance haha.

Dreading a number 2 as feel like my insides are falling out haha. Cannot believe our little man is 2 days old today 😭

Vie8126 · 03/08/2021 11:35

@Mumoftwo2021 good luck with the induction!!! At least your little one be here soon keep us posted on what happens!

Mumoftwo2021 · 03/08/2021 11:42

@Vie8126 I remember the feeling, certainly not looking forward to it, also walking around I felt like my insides would fall out. Great excuse to put your feet up & get DP to do everything 😂

I’ve rang today and apparently now there is no such thing as a place on the list 🙄😳 frustrating but it is what it is, unfortunately seems from the reviews the hospital I’m at has gone downhill massively since my last child!

Heading to the woods for a walk with my two DS today kill some time. Keeping busy will keep me sane.

Xx

MyGrassIsBrowner · 03/08/2021 11:45

@Vie8126 how far along are you now?
My original plan was for a homebirth, but I booked myself in for a section at 26 weeks as the prospect of my prolapse worsening with a subsequent VB was looming over me. Got approved for an elective no questions asked so I'm actually booked in for 4th October now. I did go through a moment last week of shit, I have a toddler to look after what if my recovery from a section takes me longer than most and then I started swaying towards my original plan of a homebirth but now the anxiety is kicking in and the amount of pain I'm in at the moment alone, I'm genuinely not sure I could cope with labour pains on top of that. Argh it's such a difficult decision.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 03/08/2021 11:46

@Mumoftwo2021 Oh bloody hell lovely. Got everything crossed for you hope baby gets a move on now ❤

Mumoftwo2021 · 03/08/2021 12:23

Just had a call, if I go to a different hospital I can go today!! Arrgghh nervous is an understatement!
Waiting for DP to get back from work & then heading to the hospital will hopefully be back on soon with an announcement! Xx

M24L · 03/08/2021 12:29

@MyGrassIsBrowner thank you for the link love 😁

I was the same tbh haha I had everything ready to go by 36 weeks and hoped baby would arrive not long after lol, we were all a bit worried though as DD1 just turned 8 and babys due date was 2 days after her birthday so we were happy for her to come before DDs birthday or after just not on her birthday haha but here we are 9 days after her birthday and still no sign lol.

Are they pushing you for a decision? I would take it a day at a time, If baby moves from transverse you might find the pain could ease. There's no worse feeling though when they are on at you to make a decision.
