Membrane Sweep

Currently 40 +2 and had my membrane sweep today. Looking at being induced this weekend if I haven't gone before then which I don't want I really want to be able to go myself 😓

Whats everyone's sweep stories? When did you get your sweep, was it successful and if so how soon after did you feel anything/when did labour start etc?

@Vie8126 it's a horrible thought isn't it, I feel terrible having the idea of DH sleeping in the car but I would rather he was close by than miss the birth.

Yeah I think it is, they were hoping to get my induction done this coming week anyway so Im technically not putting it off too much later, they practically brought it forward. I'm going to call them now 🤞.

Oh I know what you mean haha my DC1 is 8 years old and is the exact same although she hasn't stayed out in over 2 years so the thought of not being home with her and not knowing for exactly how long has me worrying a bit.

@M24L Aww thank you sweet! Don't lose hope just yet. And you're within your rights to refuse induction especially if you're still having regular movements! Hope we hear some exciting news soon! Get on a birthing ball if you have one too and get those hips rolling! X

SallyCinnamon3009 · 30/07/2021 12:03

Don't really have any sweep stories but I was induced with my second and it was super quick (2.5 hours)

As it was second baby and was already slightly dial aged I didn't have to go through the pessaries/drip and was able to just have my waters broken and contractions started pretty much immediately. I'm not a midwife but it does sound like this maybe a possibility for you if your cervix is already open? I'd maybe have a conversation about how they would look to induce you, and if it would be a case of just progressing to rupture of membranes

M24L · 30/07/2021 12:22

@MyGrassIsBrowner thank you 🥰 MW called me back and because I was under the care of the consultant they've had to speak to the registrar at the hospital where I will be induced so waiting on them having a read at my notes and getting back to me regarding it 🤞 I've been on the birthing ball and eating pineapple and spicy food as much as I can haha. Literally ready to try anything at this time x

M24L · 30/07/2021 12:25

@SallyCinnamon3009 I think I'm just so put off the induction as it was such a long drawn out process with DC1 and also quite painfull.

I was just hoping to go at home and have a different experience with DC2 and also have a water birth which will only be able to happen of I only need one pessary so it's alot of what ifs.

OP posts:
Vie8126 · 30/07/2021 12:32

@M24L yes it's awful isn't it! He will feel at such a loss of what to do and where to go I know he will be on the phone all the time!

Let us know what they say when they call back. That was me last night with the pineapple haha.

Oh bless you, mine are 16 & 12 I'm used to them staying with their dad EOW or staying at friends. They were meant to be on holiday but my older son and their dad all caught covid so that was that off!

M24L · 30/07/2021 12:58

@Vie8126 that's the same as DH he said make sure you take your headphones so I can call you and we can speak till you fall asleep lol! Their backsides will be making buttons sitting outside in the car haha.

Currently waiting on the registrar calling back, she said she can't see it being an issue but because I need to be booked in for an induction its more a case of when can they get me booked back in. But will keep you update once I hear back and know a bit more.

Are you looking forward to having a newborn back in the house again? The kids will be a great help to you.

M24L · 30/07/2021 14:49

Little update, MW called back and they have moved my induction to Friday 6th and booked me in for another sweep on Monday morning 🤞🤞 here's hoping something happens in the next week

Vie8126 · 30/07/2021 18:39

@M24L ooh earphones have tk remember them!

Yes although it doesn't feel real despite the pram and nursery furniture oh and teeny tiny nappies! My dd who is 12 is excited my 16 and 20 year ds's prob not so much.. 20 year old doesn't live here and is recovering from covid so prob won't see him for a little while. 16 year old may be interested who knows 😂

Amazing well done!!! Fingers crossed for something over the weekend xxx

M24L · 30/07/2021 18:54

@Vie8126 there's always something forgotten from the hospital bag haha, ive packed and unpacked mines about 4 times now 😅

Aw how sweet is that, the girls are always more invested lol. Do you know what your having? You'll probably be surprised once baby is here how much your DS's take notice 💞

My DD is th exact same as your DD shes overly excited and can't wait to help out with nappy etc although I don't think she will be still saying that once she's seen a dirty nappy 🤣🤣.

Thank you so much, I'm over the moon and all ready so much more relaxed, I've lost another few strips of what I'm thinking is my muccus plug over the course of today since the call so maybe I just needed the extra time my body might just do it itself over the weekend 🤞

How are you feeling have you had any changes or anything yet?xxx

OP posts:
Vie8126 · 31/07/2021 06:07

@M24L ah I have been really good and not touched mine since I packed it but now leaves me wondering what is packed in it! Needed a few extra supplies as was expecting to come home same day as delivery like dc3 although packed a contingency just in case.

Yes we're having a boy 😊 do you know? My Dd told her dad she isn't looking forward to him screaming all night and keeping her up and she definately isnt changing nappies haha. Let's see when his here.

Glad you are super relaxed I don't think you'll have long 😘

I've been up on and off all night with cramps that were waking me up and super strong braxton hicks but jusy nothing coming of it. Still have the worst dull aches around the bottom of bump front and back I'm hoping things are moving in there and I'm just unaware!

timetochangeagainforever · 31/07/2021 06:26

Hope you're ok.
Second baby. I had first sweep at 39 weeks as baby had been frank breech and id had him manually turned and they were concerned that he would turn back. Nothing from the first. Second one two days later and I was 2cm dilated.
Got home and half an hour later my waters broke. labour progressed quickly and I went to hospital for a water birth 2hrs later - 4hrs later my baby boy was born. Hope the same happens for you.

M24L · 31/07/2021 11:56

@Vie8126 I'm the same now I have an extra wee bag packed at the side just incase I have to go in for the induction as it's seems it will be 1 full day at least where as I had packed on the hope that I would be in and out 🤣.

Aw how lovely 💙 we are having another little girl, my DD wasn't too happy about that as she really wanted a brother but shes warmed to the idea now. Haha your DD has the right idea lol I'm not a massive fan of the nappy changes myself 🤣.

Aw that sounds like good news mrs, fingers crossed things are happening and your just not fully aware yet 🤞 you might find you'll go for your induction and they'll be like your all ready dilating 🤞 I hope it all goes well for you xx

M24L · 31/07/2021 11:59

@timetochangeagainforever another sweep story that gives me so much hope 💞 I'm glad it all went well for you and baby stayed in position, its such a worry when they turn isn't it 😓 I'm going to ask the consultant to be as thorough as possible at my next sweep and hopefully it gets rhings moving, I do feel like my body's ready and just needs an extra wee helping hand so I'm keeping everything crossed 🤞

Mumoftwo2021 · 01/08/2021 15:55

Hi all!
Thought I’d update, went on Friday morning loonngg and painful 3 prostin tablets later I’m ready to have waters broken, however it’s a 2-3 day waiting list so back home waiting as hospital was stressing me out.
Was offered another sweep but I’m just too sore I want a few days break.
I really hope baby makes an appearance on his own, Dreading it taking so long again!
Hope everyone is ok xXx

M24L · 01/08/2021 18:23

@Mumoftwo2021 oh no love, sounds like your not having a great time of it. Its crazy how they can allow you to wait 3 days before breaking your waters 😢 is being home helping you relax a bit?

Fingers crossed that your baby boy makes an appearance soon 🤞 and hopefully it's a quick labour for you xxx

OP posts:
Mumoftwo2021 · 01/08/2021 20:04

@M24L definitely glad to be home! Haha more relaxed and started losing my mucus plug so hopefully it’s the start of things! 39+4 today.
I know crazy isn’t it, I was thinking will I not close up 😂
How are you feeling? Xx

M24L · 02/08/2021 05:29

@Mumoftwo2021 that's a good sign I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that this is the start of it 🤞 haha I would be thinking the same tbh.

Im still pretty much the same, I think I've been loosing my muccus plug over the last 5 days (still not sure if it is actually the plug or not) no real new twinges or anything but im booked in for sweep number 2 this morning so hopefully things get moving after that although I'm not holding out much hope as I was deflated and upset after the first one failed to work.

OP posts:
Mumoftwo2021 · 02/08/2021 09:29

@M24L same here baby still cooking away!
It’s disheartening when u get signs and then nothing comes of it. Really feel for u hun, il have all my fingers & toes crossed that today’s sweep gets things going for u xx
What time is your appt? Ask her to go to town and hopefully it will shock the body into labour.
I’ve been offered sweeps my I’m too sore and don’t want to be messed with yet. Xx

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/08/2021 09:48

@M24L Definitely ask midwife to go to town on you! Hopefully you are a couple of cm dilated and she can really get in there! Good luck hun, keep us posted!! X

Vie8126 · 02/08/2021 10:23

Just an update from me... I went in Saturday at 4pm for my dilapan induction. Was examined at 5pm and still 1cm and cervix soft. Had 4 rods inserted. After being awake alllll night the hospital was soo hot had my waters broken at 6am was now only 2cm. Was left for 4hrs to see if anything happened. Was then allowed DP in at 10am as we were moved to a delivery room for a drip induction. From having that set up at around 11 to 2pm nothing much was happening but it wasn't in my hand properly so they kept ramping it up thinking oh nothings happening but it wasn't getting into my system properly! They changed hands at 2pm and then by god the contractions were thick and fast. Was examined at 5.30ish and was only 4cm but the pressure and no breather meant they slowed the drip down. Ended up asking for epidural which then didn't work (just my luck) begged for a c section was told no lol our little boy was born at 6.47pm after 20 mins of pushing. No stitches weighed 7lb 11 so all the talk of this whopping big baby was for nothing! We were discharged at 1am this morn. Labour was 4hrs in total from first pain to delivery.

Have everything crossed for you ladies that something happens soon!!!!

M24L · 02/08/2021 12:07

@Mumoftwo2021 appointment was at half 11 i said be as rough as you can but she was unable to perform the sweep as babys head is so far down, she said she couldn't reach the cervix but did say its a good sign the babys head is down so far.

Got it confirmed that I have 100% been losing my muccus plug over the last 5 days so everything seems to be going the way it should.

I felt as if I was slightly leaking fluid last night during a pee but wasn't sure so mentioned this and I've been told to wear a pad and keep an eye on it as it could be my waters. All is looking well so I'm a bit hopeful 🤞 I was 1cm dilated at my sweep last Wednesday and she said because its my second baby I won't go back to being not dilated, she couldn't say how dilated I was today though as she wasn't able to reach the cervix, Now got 5 days to try everything to get baby moving before induction.

M24L · 02/08/2021 12:09

@MyGrassIsBrowner thank you Mrs, unfortunately she was unable to reach the cervix because babys head is so far down but that's a good sign so here's hoping 🤞 xx

@Vie8126 first of all massive congratulations 💙 I hope you and baby are well xx sounds as though you had a time of it in the hospital mrs.

What a perfect weight 💞 just goes to show you that their scans were out, and im so glad your labour wasn't too long xx

Mumoftwo2021 · 02/08/2021 12:15

@Vie8126 aww sounds like a pretty tough time, well done for staying sane. And congratulations on your little one hope you are settled now your back home.

I’m just hoping that something happens before I get the call to go in for my waters broken as I’m scared that my body won’t respond, I literally had to walk fast, dance and bounce on my ball vigorously to get to 2cm dilated after 3 prostin tablets and this is my third. The trust I had in my body is gone.

@M24L thats good news, baby’s head being so far down may force the waters to pop, and good news that all the signs are heading towards natural labour! Stay on the go and hopefully things will process even more! Xx
