@Kat1112025 Oh I don't envy you there - we had our kitchen ripped out and extended into our garage earlier in the year. I think I've only just recovered from the dust and filth that went all over the house!!

I've just been up to the attic to get all our baby stuff out... but it's not quite as good as I remembered! I can't find the crib anywhere - I seem to remember my in laws took it, but they can't find it, so we need to start hunting that down. And all the things that went away clean, seems to have developed manky stains over the years, so we may have to buy some new stuff once I've washed it all and established what can't be saved!!

CobleCloud · 14/07/2021 15:42

Ah @Kirky658 I was 31 weeks the start of this week it's flying by which is why I think it's all becoming a little bit scary.

Thank you @CherLW I will take a look at them 🙂

@Kat1112025 hope the building work gets sorted soon I know how you feel about it making baby prep/organising slower. I'm currently in the process of buying a house we were meant to be in by now but have been delayed and it could be September meaning I have a bit of a Russian roulette going on at the moment not knowing if baby or house is going to arrive first!! 😱 I've had to resort to getting baby things and starting a temporary nursery in my rented property!

Feeling envious of those ladies who have dates for baby to arrive how amazing & exciting, I'm so organised I'd love to know when he is going to arrive! 💙

Kirky658 · 14/07/2021 15:55

I'd also love to know an arrival date for our baby girl! Not sure why but I've got a feeling she's gonna be slightly early - about 38 weeks. She's already head down thank goodness so hopefully she stays that way.

So who's having a baby shower?! I'm trying to avoid it as my hen party was an absolute disaster with people letting me down and not turning up...

SP2Bx · 14/07/2021 15:58

Controversial Q, but anybody else not enjoying baby movements anymore now there's less space in there?!

All of a sudden this week my tummy has been making some pretty freaky shapes and the movements just seem so much more intense! It's making me feel funny and catches me really off guard 🤢

Bring back the little flutters! 😂

SP2Bx · 14/07/2021 15:59

I am @Kirky658 ! Just in my garden though. My mum and mum-in-law are planning it together, cuties.

CobleCloud · 14/07/2021 16:10

@Kirky658 I am too.. didn't really want a baby shower but a couple of my friends insisted so they are organising it with my mum for a garden afternoon tea style thing.. I was so adamant that I didn't want one or any sashes or silly games with nappies etc that they are calling it a "child bath" and it coincides with my birthday to cover up what it really is 🤣

@SP2Bx I don't think it's controversial at all.. think I am used it to now but his movements now he is bigger definitely do take me off guard sometimes and my bump feels tender in places now depending on his position x

Kirky658 · 14/07/2021 16:14

@sp2bx sometimes my little ones kicks make me feel a bit sick! Especially as she's moved head down now her kicks are higher up which is taking some getting used to. But her head on my bladder is the worst I can't stop peeing!

Nice to hear you're having a baby shower you two. My best friend doesn't seem arsed about my baby at all (asked her for some advice yesterday and she was a bit arsey) so I don't think I'll be having one unless my Mum or DH decides to do something.

Hopefulmummie · 14/07/2021 16:33

Had a call from midwife earlier.. My urine from Saturday shows group strep b :(
Has anyone else had this?
Ive to get my urine tested every few weeks now then straight to hospital when my waters break to go on antibiotic drip

Im just glad i went at the weekend and they sent urine away other wise kt wouldn't have been picked up as they dont routinely test for it

SillyBry · 14/07/2021 16:41

No baby shower planned here… I’m hoping to meet up with my old friends over the august bank holiday weekend. (I’m really hoping it’s a no kids/no partners affair) as I’ll be 39 weeks and would rather just look after myself than a 4 year old and husband too 🤣
We’ve set the date aside, but no plans yet. They mostly live in/around London, so we’ll see what ends up happening. I’m only 45 minutes out on a fast train, but that doesn’t appeal to me too much given COVID and the heavily pregnant bit!

@Hopefulmummie good reminder, I’d forgotten that! I’ve not tested for strep B yet - last time I bought a private test and did it around 36 weeks, so I need to organise that again as the NHS don’t do it.
I’m glad they picked it up for you - although a pain for the birth, much better you know in advance!

Kirky658 · 14/07/2021 16:56

@hopefulmummie I'm a strep b carrier but internally rather than having it in a urine sample, it was diagnosed via a swab in MAU. Exactly the same as me with the IV drip with antibiotics too. I'm told it usually irons out any issues as long as you go to the hospital in time. My midwife was meant to send my urine off to be tested yesterday but did her normal tests and tipped it away as she'd forgotten I had strep b 😐

SP2Bx · 14/07/2021 16:59

Aw that's sad @Kirky658 :( My friends don't seem too fussed either but it's actually my sister who is surprising me the most. I am so close to my niece, I was my sisters birthing partner when she was born and we have such a close bond, that I thought she'd want the same with my baby but, she doesn't seem to care at all! I live 2.5hrs away from my family, but she never ever messages and asks how I am or how baby is, or even just tags me in baby related things on FB like some people do. It's quite upsetting actually but, that's on her!

We can only hope they take more of an interest once our babies are actually here, although I won't hold my breath! You hear all sorts of stories about people becoming distant once you have a baby don't you :(

Kirky658 · 14/07/2021 17:21

@sp2bx it's funny isn't it. This friend has an 18 month old so it's not like she hasn't been through it before but it just feels like she isn't bothered. Whereas her 'best friend' has a 5 month old and she's all over her like a rash and always has been. Gahhhhh!

Noodles4Me · 14/07/2021 17:35

@Hopefulmummie I have had recurring Strep B in urine throughout and a lot of antibiotics. Hospital very good at monitoring. As I'm having an ELCS I'm not hugely concerned about the birth as will be on IV antibiotics anyway. You may have to have them too even with a VB.

@Kirky658 controversial here but God no. I hate baby showers. They are so boring and can't think of anything I'd like to do least withy friends. But then I also hate weddings and hen dos too!

Kat1112025 · 14/07/2021 17:41

Also not doing a baby shower. Just want to wait until he's safely here.

I have been to some lovely ones though, so to each their own.

RadDarwazeh · 14/07/2021 18:02

Also not having a baby shower. My hen was ruined somewhat by the girls in my DH's family. And do not want my family and them interacting more than they have to. I have made an Amazon baby wishlist and sent it to my family should they want to buy me anything. Also not giving my MIL a chance to "show off" what she's bought us for the baby in front of my friends and family, which I can tell is what she wants as she did that as her own daughters' baby shower. If you have nice friends and family, go for it! But it's just not for me.

Sorry for the rant 🤣

Sillysocks998 · 14/07/2021 18:04

No baby shower here either. I just want the baby to arrive safely, I've not been vaccinated so I don't want to be around lots of people. My family are coming to see me but I agree a baby shower looks pretty but is hella boring. Much prefer a nice restruant or afty tea somewhere gorgeous with 3 4 mates that get you. No time for negative people now ladies, it's just you and baby x

FTEngineerM · 14/07/2021 20:44

@SP2Bx I’m not at the minute, when I’m at home I’m fine but if I’m at work talking about something that needs all of my brain and they’re all men when he kicks me in the cervix or I get fanny daggers or something it’s soooo hard because it’s not like I can say ‘sorry guys, that’s my sons foot in my cervix gimmie a minute’ 😬.

I may be a little OTT but I’ve washed all their clothes up to 10lb already and they’re in cute little rolls in the drawers. Getting soooo excited now.

No baby shower here either, to be fair though I didn’t last time it’s just not my thing, I try and stay away from organised gatherings where I’m centre of attention like that 😂

Kirky658 · 14/07/2021 20:52

I'm so glad to hear so many others are anti baby shower too. I don't mind being attention focused on me but it's just my hen party experience that's mostly put me off, and I don't really like the idea of having a party for the baby before she's arrived safely too, call me silly. But again I guess if you wanna have one, enjoy it! 😁

Hoping to get my second covid jab second week of August so I'm fully done before she arrives.

unicornpower · 14/07/2021 21:05

@Kirky658 sorry to hear about your friend not being seemingly that bothered 😕 it's always hard when people behave in a strange way! A couple of mine have been the same tbh.

@SP2Bx oh no! I'm sorry your sister is being really hopeless? Sometimes people need a bit of a shake up don't they? I find it quite sad, a text takes no time!

I am having a baby shower but it's only a very small group of my best friends and I wanted to see them all before baby so it's more of a 'let's all have a nice day, no presents required!' It's the same day as yours @SP2Bx! My husbands family are useless though, my SIL isn't bothered in the slightest and hasn't asked me once how I am or how baby is etc yet she's all over her other brothers wife like a rash and is planning her baby shower etc I mean its fine as we arent that close but I thought the baby might bring us closer but nope! I shouldn't really be surprised, his whole family are weird haha im just glad my baby has my lovely family and our friends to love on her ❤

SillyBry · 14/07/2021 21:16

@Kirky658 @SP2Bx if it helps, my “long term” friends aren’t remotely interested. We are all scattered all over the place now… but even pregnant with my first, no one made much fuss. The ones that have kids already are better than the ones that don’t. The ones without aren’t really interested in boring family life and find it a bit of a pain when you suggest that taking toddlers into central London on your own to go for lunch isn’t your favourite idea of a day out! 🤣
But you will find mums at groups that you make friends with - you might not have too much in common other than a similar aged baby, but it’s nice to have someone to talk about sleep regressions etc with!!
Now my daughter is 4, I have quite a nice friendship network of mums from nursery, as well as a few that we’ve met in swimming classes etc, which helps 😊

Mamabearwhere · 14/07/2021 22:59

I’m not having a baby shower either, I had one with my eldest, didn’t have one with my second so I feel alike it would be unfair to have one with this one as in my head it would make it unequal (I’m probably overthinking it). Also not vaccinated and don’t really want loads of people around plus I genuinely have no energy or interest in doing anything that requires much effort. I just pray for healthy delivery and baby and we can celebrate that another time.

In other news, I AM DONE WITH WORK AS OF TODAY! So happy to be officially on maternity leave! Grin

crobo87 · 15/07/2021 00:43

Is anyone else's baby currently lying transverse? Mine is, noted on my 28 week growth scan. It is so uncomfortable, I cannot even lean forward never mind bend without getting lots of stomach pain.

Hoping he moves head down soon 🤞🏻

Kirky658 · 15/07/2021 06:46

@mamabearwhere yayyyyy happy maternity leave ❤️

@crobo87 my little one was transverse as of my 28 week check, at my 31 weeks the other day she's gone head down but that brings a whole other bag of fun things 😂

AdventuresAwait · 15/07/2021 07:39

Yay @Mamabearwhere! Enjoy your maternity leave 🥳

SP2Bx · 15/07/2021 08:00

Happy maternity leave, @Mamabearwhere !!

Yep mine is @crobo87 - midwife hasn't expressed any concern yet though, still loads of time to move, although it is uncomfortable!

I've experienced both ends of the spectrum with baby showers so see where you're all coming from, but I love a girls' afternoon and fortunately have lovely in-laws! I'm conscious that it's easy for in-laws to feel not as involved with the baby so I think part of me wants to use the shower as a way of including them all considering they're close by and my family aren't. I also have my best friends from uni who I havent seen in aaaages coming, one of whom is bringing their 9mo baby that I haven't even met yet and tbh I think that's what I'm most excited for!!! That and a scrummy afternoon tea :)
