I am having really bad sleep due to my hips hurting soooo much when I’m laying on my side. I alternate but then both hurt and end up having to stack up my pillows and sleep sitting up!! I don’t even think there is any solution, I just need to rant 😭

AdventuresAwait · 29/06/2021 12:52

Sorry to hear that @CherLW, rant away! It must be frustrating. I'm not in pain but I'm not sleeping well either. I get shortness of breath and am then awake from about 2 to 5am.

D0nut · 29/06/2021 13:00

@CherLW I have a lot of aches and pains in the night too. My hips and also my legs. I go to bed feeling fine and then wake up really uncomfortable and achy.

SillyBry · 29/06/2021 13:16

I think it's just natures way of getting us ready for sleepless nights!! ;-)
My body is feeling ok at the moment, but my 4 year old is poorly, which is stopping my sleep! Night before last, she woke at 3.30 with a fever and couldn't get back to sleep... then last night, we ended up having paramedics round as her breathing was laboured and she was so insanely hot... (I was only trying to get an out of hours drs appt, wasn't expecting an ambulance!!!) Anyway, she's on antibiotics and painkillers now, but we didn't get her to bed til 10pm by the time they left and we'd got the drugs into her... then she coughed til she was sick at midnight, so bed needed stripping etc and then she was awake by 7am.
Today, she's bouncing off the walls, feeling pretty splendid with the drugs... and I'm like "it's great you feel so much better, but can we lie down and watch TV for a bit?!" LOL!

CherLW · 29/06/2021 13:35

@AdventuresAwait @D0nut
It’s such a pain! Either not sleeping or the pain in the legs etc. It’s just so painful in my hips… once both hips are aching I just give in and sit up! Then it’s having to make sure I’m sat up enough so I don’t slouch on to my back. Oh how I miss sleeping on my back!

Sorry to hear you’re waking up in the night, it’s awful isn’t it when that happens.. I always worry when I get up for a wee (which is a lot) that I won’t be able to get back to sleep after!

bewitchingnight · 29/06/2021 14:24

@SillyBry what a night! Hope she carries on feeling better and gives you a better night tonight!

I had my second COVID jab on Sunday and had the worst nights sleep because my arm hurt and tossing and turning is becoming more of an undertaking than it once was!

AdventuresAwait · 29/06/2021 14:45

Does anyone else get what I've read to be called 'fanny daggers/lightening crotch'? I've just started getting some pains in the last day or so.

CherLW · 29/06/2021 15:24

@AdventuresAwait yes definitely! Sharp pains really low down!

Sceptre86 · 29/06/2021 15:25

Sorry to hear so many of you are struggling with your backs and hips. I was referred to physio and am doing exercises when I can. I was sent out a piece of tubigrip to wear when I'm lying down. She also sent out a maternity belt for when I am out walking. They really have helped so might be worth speaking to your midwife if you are suffering.

I am 31 weeks tomorrow and we really need to get a move on getting things sorted before baby arrives. I'm going to go shopping for some nighties at the weekend and get my hospital bag packed. We want to move my son into the bigger bedroom before baby arrives but dh hasn't gotten very far in terms of sorting it out. I think he is probably going to need to take some time off to get it sorted. Has anyone else still got so much to do before baby arrives?

AdventuresAwait · 29/06/2021 15:40

Ok thanks @CherLW. They took me by surprise a bit!

leftitlate37 · 29/06/2021 15:42

yes @Sceptre86! nearly everything still 2 do!!!!30 weeks today and aside from a mattress-less next to me crib, we only have clothes gifted by friends whose kids are older now! had massive panic at weekend, so we've finally chosen (but not bought) the pram and car seat. haven't even thought about hospital bag - other than finally knowing what it kinda involves! the spare room (gonna be his room) is a state, we need to offload a spare single bed,get the room cleared and painted and decide if need diff furniture etc. ARGGGGH!!! hubby is so chilled,im like can we pls pls pls sort this!but need his help shifting stuff and dismantling the bed etc! so however not ready u feel, there is always someone who is way further behind! im a few chapters into a hypnobirthing book, and thats as "ready" as ive got mentally!
@SillyBry hope little un improves and u get better night tonight!
@bewitchingnight other than sore arm, did u feel ok with 2nd jab? im going for mine tomorrow! hope itll be ok as idont need any more excuses to moan right now ;)

SillyBry · 29/06/2021 15:52

@leftitlate37 @Sceptre86 also got heaps to do here!
Got to find the crib… I’m hoping it’s in the attic! Order a new mattress, build it, get the baby rocker etc back out and build it. Nowhere near a hospital bag yet!
I did a load of sleepsuits, sleeping bags, new pumping bags and bottles etc last week, so I feel more organised than I did then! Pushchair and car seat is somewhere, again, hopefully in the attic… but I can’t remember what we asked the in laws to store!
I keep thinking it’s fine, heaps of time… but hit 30 weeks today and it’s all getting into single figures weeks now!!

leftitlate37 · 29/06/2021 15:58

Aaaah this makes me feel less panicked @sillybry although u have the advantage of knowing what u r doing as its number 2 ;) we r just clueless...have 2 try and not look 2 blank when people like the midwife ask us stuff!!! What sleepsuits/bags did u go for....was it u who recommended Tommeetippee website...I ended up looking at some but got a bit stumped on what to get! What u reckon for sept baby they'll sleep in (know its weather dependent!). Those little gro bags look quite good but all diff Tog....

bewitchingnight · 29/06/2021 16:20

@leftitlate37 I felt a bit rough to be honest, carried on working but had a nap during my lunch break. Took some paracetamol in the morning and after lunch but I feel absolutely fine today so it didn't last long at all. Felt fine after the first one. DH was the opposite, felt rough after the first and nothing after the second!

There are those little grow bag things in the John Lewis sale at the moment, I got one that's 1 tog and another that's 2.5 tog because sometimes September is warm... but then not long after that it will be wintery!

SillyBry · 29/06/2021 16:25

@leftitlate37 a lot of the 0-6 months sleeping bags are only from 10lbs upwards (or something like that!)
So yes, I’ve got the tommee tippee snuggle bags for the first couple of months. Lots of people just use blankets, but I don’t trust myself 🤣

www.tommeetippee.com/en-gb/product/little-pip-grobag-snuggle

I got some on Amazon for cheaper last week, but tommee tippee do have 25% off at the moment. In general, I preferred paying more for the gro bag (now tommee tippee) bags over supermarket ones as they were so much bigger/lasted longer.

I picked up a few second hand off Facebook marketplace and treated myself to some new ones. I’ve got 2 in 2.5 tog and 2 in 1 tog as September is so flipping unknown in terms of weather! It can be boiling or cold! But I tell myself they are easy enough to sell on - or keep for another baby, which I should’ve done! 🤣

FTEngineerM · 29/06/2021 19:09

Ah yes fanny daggers, tonight’s actually made me lunge off my chair a bit. The joys.

@CherLW have you got a pregnancy pillow? I’d be in agony without it.

Kirky658 · 29/06/2021 20:01

@sillybry awww bless sorry your little one isn't well, hope she feels better soon and you manage some rest tonight!
We got the Tommy tippee gro bags too, 2.5 togs for both of ours as our house stays pretty cool normally. So my thinking was baby can sleep in less or more clothing if needed.

Going to tick more off the list this weekend and order new moses basket mattress, sheets, cot sheets etc. Getting there slowly but surely.

I feel so bloody exhausted now and feel like my bump has exponentially grown since my 28 week appt last week! Just feel so heavy and sluggish.

Scotti84 · 29/06/2021 20:03

@CherLW im the same in the night, sleep well to start but then wake up in agony depending on which hip I'm laying on. The pregnancy pillow helps loads but then i have to put another normal pillow under my hips too. I've been getting up about 5am cos i lose patience with constantly turning.

Getting fanny daggers too, and baby is kicking right under my ribs, nice to know she's doing OK but does get a bit uncomfortable

CherLW · 29/06/2021 20:16

@FTEngineerM @Scotti84 I’ve got a pregnancy pillow but it still doesn't much.. I think I must stay really still until I first wake up abs by then my hip is already really painful!
I might try that too and put one under my hips!

GWhiteley · 29/06/2021 21:39

@CherLW @Scotti84 glad I'm not the only one with hip problems!

Both my hips ache quite badly by the end of each night, my left one being the worst. I don't have a pregnancy pillow & with less than 10 weeks to go don't know if it's worth it, but if anyone's got any suggestions for what I could try without one I'd be grateful!

MrsTD88 · 29/06/2021 21:45

@SillyBry oh what a worry for you! Glad your little one seems to be feeling better now. You must be exhausted.

@Sceptre86 I feel the same. I forced DH into helping me at the weekend. I just started swapping rooms with our daughter and knew he'd end up coming up to help with the heavy lifting. We really need to redecorate the room she is in now so another mountain to climb but waiting on her new bed arriving before we do that. I started ordering loads of baby stuff from Boots today, they have some great deals on at the moment and 15% off over £30 spend so stocked up on loads for baby. It has suddenly hit that baby will be here before we know it and I definitely don't feel ready.

CherLW · 29/06/2021 22:13

@SillyBry I didn’t even think about the weight of the baby in the sleeping bags!! The ones I have are for babies over 8.8lbs… I don’t know if I should get another couple to last until then or make do with cellular blankets 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also I have two 2.5 tog and now thinking will that be too heavy in September… do I need more than 2? They are 0-6 month ones… I was originally thinking 3 so I could have one in use, one in the wash and one spare… oh it’s confusing 😂

CherLW · 29/06/2021 22:14

@MrsTD88 that sounds good about the boots offer! What kind of things have you been buying? Any tips you could recommend would be great!

SillyBry · 29/06/2021 22:32

@CherLW lots of people use blankets in the early days! I just remembered only finding out 0-6 months doesn’t really mean that when I had my first! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣
I picked up some of Facebook for £5, which made me feel less bad that they’ll only get used for a month or so! I’ve got two in each weight. Basically one to wear and one as a spare. But I was so undecided on weather that I got both togs. I seem to have loads in 6-18 months… don’t really remember why! Except that once my daughter started nursery, she had one that lived there

MrsTD88 · 29/06/2021 22:34

CherLW I bought lots of nappies (they have reusable ones in the offer too if you prefer), wipes, cotton wool balls for the early days, toiletries for baby such as top to toe wash, moisturiser etc, breast pads, maternity pads, soft ramer sponges, maternity bed mats. They have disposable pants too in different sizes if anyone is interested in those. Also got a little set which includes nail clippers and scissors etc. A thermometer is always handy to have for baby too, I was constantly checking my daughter's temperature especially after vaccinations. They had lots of different bottles and breast pumps etc on offer too but going to buy those another day.

On the Tommee Tippee gro bag front, I noticed on George Asda's website today they have some in their sale. They had a mixture of togs and sizes.
