We’re coming to the end of our last thread so here is, hopefully, the final instalment of our journeys. I’m going to compile a list of due dates and births from the last thread and I’ll post them below.

Hopefully we’ll have lots more baby announcements on the way! How is everyone doing?

@PurpleishDahlia how are you getting on? Has baby made an appearance?

Jinglebells87 · 08/07/2021 20:50

Hi ladies. How is everyone getting on? We are doing good although I'm starting to feel desperate for a full night's sleep! I got shat on twice at 1am this morning! Lifted his legs when changing nappy and he basically sharted (yes farted and sh!t) on me and the bed covers! DP helped clean up because I didn't have enough hands!
He is worth it though because for the last 2 days we have started to get some smiles! It melts my heart!Smile

Lovethatjourneyforme · 08/07/2021 21:21

@Jinglebells87 hahahaha just what you want in the early hours! I'm certain it's going to happen to me soon, she does like to lift her bum and aim it right at me while I'm changing her 🤣

We're doing alright! Had some really fussy days but she's slept really well the past few nights (sorry, not what you wanna hear!) so it's been an alright pay off. All the daytime fussing must have really worn her out. We're also starting to see the beginning of some smiles! Definitely not just wind now ☺️

How much does everyone's LO sleep during the day? Mine has about 2 15 min naps in the morning, a long 3 hour one around lunch, and another couple of 15 mins in the late afternoon/evening. She's awake way more than a newborn is meant to be!

AlRRRR · 08/07/2021 21:28

@serenfach1 Hey! She has 1 on an evening, so next one will be around 11, partner does it. I’m in bed now hahahahh

It is expressed milk that i’ve collected using the Haaka device :) She’s 15 days old now and i caved and bought formula today, but keeping it just to be there, I’m going to try hold out as long as i can!

How are you doing?

Lovethatjourneyforme · 08/07/2021 21:33

@AIRRRR glad you've found something that's working for you. Just that little bit of pressure relief really does make a difference, as does some proper sleep!

AlRRRR · 08/07/2021 21:33

@Lovethatjourneyforme How many weeks is baby now?

Mine is 15 days, breastfeeds every 2-3 hours (usually) sleeps straight afterwards, rarely get awake time yet! Usually around 7 we can catch her with the eyes open haha This is when we might get her in the bath…

She does have jaundice though, gaining weight but does have to go to hospital on Tues for tests 😅😅😅 Sure it’s fine, but maybe that’s why she isn’t awake?

She usually follows this pattern during the night too, would be nice to actually see her eyes , she barely cries as i just shove boob in before she ramps up, thinking of switching to bottles though soon..

serenfach1 · 09/07/2021 08:12

@AIRRRR great that she took the bottle ok! Interestingly when I told my HV we were going to introduce a bottle of expressed milk she basically advocated doing a formula feed.

My LO's day sleep varies. He sometimes falls asleep straight after a feed but tends to be awake between up to 3 hours and then sleeps 2-3 hours.

AlRRRR · 09/07/2021 08:29

@serenfach1 Really, formula over expressed? I wonder why?? I just have some expressed from using a haaka suction so that’s why I went for it!

Are you thinking of introducing a bottle? It’s just important for me that she does with my work etc, I see some babies outright refuse a bottle after 6 weeks and then they can’t be left, in an ideal world, I wouldn’t need to leave her but I may have to as some point in next few months :)

Lovethatjourneyforme · 09/07/2021 16:36

@serenfach1 ah that's similar to mine then, wasn't sure I should be letting her nap so long but she's sleeping alright at night so can't be too bad!

@AIRRRR she's 5 weeks now. She had jaundice the first few days and it does make them sleepier. Expect your little one will perk up soon!

AlRRRR · 09/07/2021 17:10

@Lovethatjourneyforme Yes she has hospital app on Tues to check levels, she’ll be 3 weeks by then! she does ramp up to cry for food 🤣🤣🤣🤣

PurpleishDahlia · 09/07/2021 18:07

Hello ladies, this is my Ellie, born on the 5th, at 41+4. Labour started spontaneously but it was a very slow business, lasted 30 hours and I had a hormone top-up (something they called augmentation) and a forceps delivery. I still walk like a sailor ⚓ but so glad to be finally home. Wishing you all the best with your little ones 💕 I'll be catching up on this thread.

AlRRRR · 09/07/2021 18:24

@PurpleishDahlia Oh was just wondering about you today!!! congrats!!! :) :) :)

Lovethatjourneyforme · 09/07/2021 20:31

@PurpleishDahlia congratulations! She's beautiful.

Is that all our babies born now or is anyone still waiting?

serenfach1 · 10/07/2021 00:44

@AIRRRR I think she was trying to say you're busy enough with an older child that there's no harm supplementing with formula if expressing is too hard to fit into your day. Let's face it some days there are going to be days when it's going to difficult to express second child or no second child! Yes

serenfach1 · 10/07/2021 00:47

@AIRRRR ooops fat thumbs...yes going to start a bottle once a day so dad can do a feed. I've no qualms about using formula. We combi fed with my eldest once he started accepting a bottle at around 4 months.

serenfach1 · 10/07/2021 00:53

@Lovethatjourneyforme yes I'd let your LO sleep as long as they need during the night or day at the moment. They're too little for routine IMO. Again my HV advised that they ought to be woken if they're sleeping longer than a 5 hour stretch in the day for a feed to ensure they're getting enough feeds in per day.

@PurpleishDahlia congratulations! She looks lovely! Glad recovery going ok despite the long arrival.Enjoy all the newborn snuggles! Mine was also a forceps delivery and an episiotomy alongside it. My LO's head was lopsided and his hand was up by his face so he needed a tug to get him out!!

Anyone else waiting for their LO to arrive?

AlRRRR · 10/07/2021 04:46

@serenfach1 how old is yours again?

what routine / method do you have / will have for combi feeding! any tips?

Sweetmad · 10/07/2021 09:58

@PurpleishDahlia congratulations Mumma! She’s beautiful xxx

serenfach1 · 10/07/2021 10:26

@AIRRRR 15 days old Smile I've no idea about the bottle feed. I'm going to ask my health visitor for some advice before we start. I'll let you know what she says.

Tangled123 · 10/07/2021 10:38

My little girl is 3 weeks and one day old today. She is mostly breastfed now (had one bottle this week when her dad and I went to the cinema) but was combi fed for her first couple of weeks. She was mainly on formula since the hospital but I gradually replaced each feed with the breast instead. Had a bit of a rough time earlier this week with cluster feeding, but I think she’s over the worst of that (for now 😂).

AlRRRR · 10/07/2021 10:42

@serenfach1 Ah so 2 days behind mine :) How are you finding bfeeding? Are you wanting to introduce a bottle of formula with the view of moving to it full time? :)

serenfach1 · 10/07/2021 14:04

@AIRRRR bf is going fine. Luckily no soreness. I'll bf as long feels right. I made it to about 8/9 months with DS1 but his teeth got too much and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't make it work any longer. He got a lot of teeth really young! I was also doing formula feeding from around 4 months. I think DH was doing a regular formula bottle at bedtime and I vaguely remember doing a formula feed in the night too although I don't know if this was regular or at what point it stopped. Plan to do something similar this time round. My motto is do what works and feels right to you!

AlRRRR · 10/07/2021 14:44

@serenfach1 Thank you! Yes that’s my plan, to have the flexibility of both! I’ve seen some babies refuse the bottle if you start too late so starting young to try avoid it! I’ve bought some Kendalmil to try so wish me luck!

With a 4 yr old I simple can’t just sit on the sofa for hours feeding, I sometimes need someone to help out!

serenfach1 · 10/07/2021 16:53

@AIRRRR I'd love someone to help out here too. Just spent best part of an hour tidying up DS1's room and the bathroom as DH has been spending most of his time there with him these last 3 weeks and he's not the greatest at keeping on top of things.

TerryRose · 10/07/2021 17:43

@PurpleishDahlia congrats she's gorgeous!!

I am looking to introduce a bottle and express but must ask my health nurse about it as keep hearing different things . The feeding is going fine but finding it hard not having time to do a bit of house work as my husband is working long hours and the house is just driving me mad !!
