We’re coming to the end of our last thread so here is, hopefully, the final instalment of our journeys. I’m going to compile a list of due dates and births from the last thread and I’ll post them below.

Hopefully we’ll have lots more baby announcements on the way! How is everyone doing?

@PurpleishDahlia I'm really thirsty too. The warmer weather dampens my appetite but I'm trying to eat well... I make overnight oats for breakfast and bung in some seeds and nuts and whatever fruit I fancy. At least then I know I've had one square meal even if the rest of the day goes to pot! Oatcakes - savoury and sweet - as snacks for the night. I sound like an oat fiend but I read they're good for milk supply.

serenfach1 · 01/07/2021 17:11

@PurpleishDahlia might've been coincidence but I was desperate not to be induced and nothing was happening for at 40+5 so I dropped Clary Sage aromatherapy oil on me and sat in a sandpit at the playground with my eldest son in a yogic type pose (feet together knees out pelvis tilted down) and later that day everything started to happen. Have you heard of www.spinningbabies.com/pregnancy-birth/daily-activities/ ? Some midwives swear by this stuff!

Sitchervice · 01/07/2021 19:06

@PurpleishDahlia
I keep wanting sweet things at the moment. I'm trying to eat as healthy as I can, adding spinage and lots of veg in things but the cake is turning my head!

PurpleishDahlia · 02/07/2021 00:33

@serenfach1 I'd heard of spinning babies but I thought it was for getting baby in the right position. I'll try the exercises, also ordered some clary sage oil :)
@sitchervice I'm wanting sweets all the time too - just made something delicious, it's not letting me attach a picture.

Hi all, my little one is 13 days old and doing 'ok' with breast feeding. Had a few cluster days where it was just constantly feeding for hours at a time with him falling asleep on my boob but starting again as soon as I tried to take him off. In between the hours of feeding he would not settle at all, just cried (screamed) to be back on my boobs. Midwife/HV said this was really common around day 10/11 but has been the same for a few feeds each day not settling between! He had been ok during the night though, feeding for about an hour to 1&1/2 then going down ok so I am taking that as a win!!! I am struggling to stay awake during night feeds though - any suggestions?????

BabyBumpIncoming · 02/07/2021 04:14

Also, a wee laugh - we had newborn photo shoot today and he decided to scream for most of it so didn't get as many nakey bum shots because of this. Husband got him settled when naked and felt a little wet on his hand - the boy had sharted! So I popped him down to clean up and he then preceded to piss everywhere and have an explosive wet poo - thank the lord it did not happen on some of the lovely blankets and props 😱😂🙊

AlRRRR · 02/07/2021 05:34

@BabyBumpIncoming I’m really struggling with the night feeds! Day 9 here for us and not sure how long I can sustain it for! Also have a 4 yr old at home so napping in the day isn’t always an option!

I often fall asleep feeding and there’s absolutely nothing I can do about it! She also won’t lay on her back in the next to me crib 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

serenfach1 · 02/07/2021 06:50

@PurpleishDahlia omg your cake looks incredible! How did you find the energy to make that?! Ywha I think spinning babies is about getting baby in position but I'm sure that seated pose with soles of feet together, pelvis tilted down shifted my baby down just enough to start something. Like I say it might've been pure coincidence but worth giving it a go

serenfach1 · 02/07/2021 07:04

@BabyBumpIncoming the constant feeding sounds exhausting. We're on day 7 so I'm bracing myself for all of that. Can you watch anything while you feed to help keep you awake? I didn't do that with my first because I was too busy googling every newborn question under the sun but I have been watching stuff this time round and it's really helped me stay awake. It's can get really hard to keep those heavy lids open though. Good idea to minimise risk by making sure the area around you and baby while your feeding is clear of pillows (except the ones behind you) and surplus bedding, cushions etc. It's harder to do this if your partner is sharing the bed with you. And nap as much as you can during the day or get an extra early night while baby sleeps in the early part of the evening if baby's not cluster feeding?

BabyBumpIncoming · 02/07/2021 08:17

@AlRRRR this is my first so hats off to you for getting this far with BF with a little one already - I don't know how you would manage. I think I have been quite lucky the last few nights that he has gone down in his next to me quite easy during the night but he won't go into Moses during the day.

@serenfach1 I have been feeding in the nursery in a chair as I would defo fall asleep feeding in the bed. I have been trying podcasts even duo lingo to start Spanish to see if it keeps my brain awake haha. I haven't actually watched any tv yet so light give that a go in the iPad tonight, those lids are just so heavy 😂 Yeah I will need to try and snooze more when he eventually goes down during the day, he's not as keen to sleep or settle during the day 😳

AlRRRR · 02/07/2021 08:21

@BabyBumpIncoming It’s bloody tough!!! I’m on the edge of giving up!!!!!

serenfach1 · 02/07/2021 08:51

@babybumpincoming ahhh I assumed you were in bed! I don't have space for a feeding chair. I think watching something is better than listening for staying awake because of the visual stimuli. Love that you're keeping your babhy brain engaged with languages though!

I'm swaddling my newborn which I didn't do with my first. It really seems to keep him calm (could just be his temperament though I guess). My first was hard work because he had awful reflux from the get go and hated being flat on his back so he wouldn't lie anywhere for long.

Some say making the moses basket smell of you might help so throw some dirty clothes in there while it's empty so it soaks up your mama smells!

@AIRRRR sorry you're finding it so tough. I hope you manage a nap today. Nowt wrong with combi feeding formula as well as BF. You've got to think of your wellbeing and pushing yourself to EBF is no good if you're pushing yourself to the edge.

Sweetmad · 02/07/2021 11:26

@AIRRRR I was on the edge of giving up yesterday. Only managed 2 hours sleep and he would not settle at all; had to have my mum over In the end so I could grab an hours nap before I had a breakdown. However we’ve woken up today a different baby, nice and content and completely different. Thinking of you; keep going you’ve got this! Every day is a new day x

Lovethatjourneyforme · 02/07/2021 16:37

I to and fro about giving up every hour at the moment 😂 I'm going to try and get to 6 weeks and reevaluate then.

AlRRRR · 02/07/2021 17:11

@Sweetmad and @Lovethatjourneyforme how old are your babies??

I managed a 2 hour nap today! Feels a bit better haha but still, I know the night is coming around!!

AlRRRR · 02/07/2021 17:12

@serenfach1 I’m trying to express a little bit of milk and give it her in a bottle, she kinda splutters and coughs when we tried last night, just not sure about formula and don’t really know how I’d do it 🤣🤣🤣

Sweetmad · 02/07/2021 17:14

@AIRRRR Teddy is 3 And half weeks now defo feels like it’s flown by 😂how old is your little one? Yes nap when you can it’s a godsend

Lovethatjourneyforme · 02/07/2021 17:22

@AIRRRR 4 weeks tomorrow, somehow! Clinging on to the fact that the past few weeks have gone fairly quickly. Also feel awful that I'm basically wishing the first stage of her life away though.

AlRRRR · 02/07/2021 17:31

@Sweetmad wow! And how are you doing with breastfeeding? Mine is 9 days old :)

AlRRRR · 02/07/2021 17:33

@Lovethatjourneyforme Don’t feel bad about wishing it away, I really don’t like the newborn stage, I like it from about 3 months, then 6 months start to get better and then love it when they’re weaning and just responding etc!

TerryRose · 03/07/2021 19:27

@Lovethatjourneyforme totally get what you mean , it's hard not to look forward to the future when things hopefully have a bit more routine etc I'd say it would be hard to find a parent who didn't wish to skip forward at some point or another !!

My little one is now continuously feeding through the day but at least we getting some sleep at night . My OH is back working long hours so my biggest challenge is finding the time to make food for myself , I feel guilty for not eating better especially when breastfeeding but hoping I can figure it out . Don't mention housework 🙈🤣

TerryRose · 03/07/2021 19:31

@BabyBumpIncoming mine is doing the same but the continuous feeding has switched to day now . I ended up staying up late watching tv on the couch as I was falling asleep during night feeds in the bed and she will not sleep in the next to me crib .

I've tried soothers and bottles and she won't take them so just taking it day by day.

serenfach1 · 03/07/2021 19:51

@terryrose it takes perseverance with the soothers and bottles. My first took 3 months to accept a soother and even longer to accept a bottle. Just try it every few days in different situations, like when you're out and about, in the car, etc. Some research I did first time round suggested bottles might be more easily taken if dad offered it as baby knows mums got the best stuff and will reject a bottle from her! I remember DS taking a dummy on new year's Day while we were doing a 4 hour car journey home. That was a real hallelujah moment! Anyway, that's just my two cents worth Smile
