We’re coming to the end of our last thread so here is, hopefully, the final instalment of our journeys. I’m going to compile a list of due dates and births from the last thread and I’ll post them below.

Hopefully we’ll have lots more baby announcements on the way! How is everyone doing?

@PinkPlantCase Oooooo the nappy change screaming 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Gets a bit loud!!

How are your nights? How old is your little one? :)

MelissaAnn92 · 28/06/2021 23:38

What's everyone's routine like when it comes to going to actual bed to settle down?
We try hun with a feed then he seems to be alert looking around the room
Feeel guilty dimming the lights and putting him in his next to be crib! Ha ha

Are people leaving lamps on or just turning the light off? Xx

Sitchervice · 28/06/2021 23:50

@MelissaAnn92 we feed when he asks. We have a night light on and sat in bed. Feeding until he's fully asleep then move onto next to me, after we know he won't wake for a while light off.

AlRRRR · 29/06/2021 05:43

@MelissaAnn92
We ‘re only day 6 but have been going upstairs around 10/11 swaddling, lights off and landing light on :) Will feed in the swaddle and hold for a good while before putting her down next to me, we have a side by me cot but she’s yet to fully lay down in it, I’ve been cuddling her with my arm. Sometimes put dummy if she’s had a really good feed and I think she just might want to suck :)

When awake for a feed I just use hallway light

Fishingforhappiness · 29/06/2021 08:52

@AlRRRR I. Just so knackred. Bath at 9pm. Then swaddle, feed and then put down in a crib next to the bed around 10ish. She woke last night at midnight when DH got home and needed another feed, and starts the pattern of 1 boob, nappy change then 2nd boob to settle her off to sleep. Woke again at 2.50, down to sleep again at 3.40. Fed again at 5.15, downat 5.30, up again at 6.30 and that was us up. That was the best night in ages. Has been constantly every 1.5hrs on hotter nights and she needs keeping upright after feeds as she loves to vomit. It's hard isn't it.

AlRRRR · 29/06/2021 09:36

@Fishingforhappiness Yes it is so tough!! Where there are good days/ nights, there are bad as well, but at least we have these amazing little humans ❤️❤️❤️❤️ My phone, netflix and snacks keep me sane at night!!!

Lovethatjourneyforme · 29/06/2021 09:49

We've been putting her to bed around 9ish - nappy change, clothes change, feed in the dark and down. We've had a good few days sleep wise, getting a 3 hour stint, then feed again and then maybe 3-4hours after that. Then it's just a 1-1.5hr nap before we're up at about 6.30. We're kind of setting a routine but it's more for us than her, we know she's too young to get into one properly yet. So not really expecting the good sleeps to last 😐

@Fishingforhappiness how long do you keep her upright for? And do you find it works? We have the same issue and I'm not really sure how much difference it's making.

TerryRose · 29/06/2021 13:53

@AlRRRR I'm going to try the swaddle and feed, my one keeps kicking the blanket off but hoping a nice swaddle will help and I'll keep persisting with the soother .
I said it to the public health nurse , I was half expecting her to tell me not to use a soother but she said to try as it sounds like she's just sucking for comfort at certain points in the night .

She's yet to sleep in her bed side crib 🙈 last night it was continuous feeds from
12-4am but she's great during the day.

Nesski · 29/06/2021 14:43

@MelissaAnn92 lamp on, and bed time is basically my bed time as he sleeps well in the Moses basket and the cotbed in our room. Right now he is good every other day (2.5 hour sleep, feed, poop) which all takes about an hour I'd say. Yesterday I went to bed and moved him in at 10pm and slept when he sleeps, I'm good at sleeping though so that helps! Husband I make him sleep in the other room every other day, so he can function and do everything around the house during the day and all I need to do is feed (c section, he won't let me lift a finger, truly lucky to have him)

I have had nights where he cluster feeds, that's brutal but that's why I definitely need husband to sleep in other room so I can sleep during the day!

AlRRRR · 29/06/2021 15:05

@TerryRose Oh yes I put the dummy in last night after 4 feeds at 11pm haha so I tested it out and next time she woke was 3am, she then slept till 5 and then fed again.

Night before she fed 8pm to 3am 😩😩😩😩😩😩 it was hell !!

Just test different stuff out and you’ll find what works etc I am sure!! Way I see it , if they really need to feed they won’t suck long at the dummy if their tummy is full? I dunno 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤣🤣

PinkPlantCase · 29/06/2021 16:46

Ours has an evening feeding marathon which starts at around 6pm and finishes anywhere between 10pm and midnight. After then he normally has a good 4 hours. Normally in his Moses basket unless he’s particularly unsettled and we’re particularly tired and then he comes in with us. Then he’ll feed for an hour and go back down for about 2/3 hours another feed and if we don’t have to get up he’ll make it till about 10am.

I really notice the difference if we can’t have the lye in.

Me and DH are still sleeping in the same room. At the moment he does all the changing and the shushing and I just do the feeding. We’ll see how it goes once he’s back at work though

Nesski · 30/06/2021 09:48

@PinkPlantCase we just had the conversation around going back to work! I've asked him to sleep in the other room Sunday to Thursday evenings and then Friday and Saturday come back with us, that is purely because he is rubbish we broken sleep, like genuinely rubbish. Two timings we will try if one or the other doesn't work is for us to both go to bed at 10/11am but he gets up at 6am to take over so I can have a 3 hour nap which means I won't necessarily need to nap during the day or he takes over 8-12am and I sleep 4 hours then do the night shift. Option 1 may not work if he needs to go in the office in which case I'll have to deal with the lack of 3 hour session and nap throughout the day.

serenfach1 · 30/06/2021 11:15

Our routine (6 day old)... I go get some sleep once baby is out for the count anytime around 7-9pm then dad brings him to me usually around around 10pm and I feed and do the night time shift. Hubby sleeps in separate room. I feed / give boob to sleep then swaddle and put in the next to me. I've got a night light which is a red light which I use along with white noise once baby is asleep. I don't like us being in pitch black where I can't see him. Feeding time I tend to watch something and nappy changes I put a little warm white light on so I can see what's what! Last 2 nights baby (still no name) has given me 3 stretches of 90mins sleep. Takes us up to around 5am. Then I'll nap again in the morning when he sleeps. Today was 8-10. It won't be like that when DH is back at work but I'll figure that out closer to the time. V lucky his work changed pat policy and upped pat leave from 2 to 4 weeks. So far baby 2 v different to baby 1 who had terrible reflux.

Hope you're all ok. Sending heaps of new mama "you got this" vibes even if you feel like you don't Flowers

TerryRose · 30/06/2021 12:52

Just lost track a bit bit is anyone still waiting on their baba to arrive ?! Hope all is well ❤️

So interesting reading all about your feeding routines etc ! Last night was our best night , I ended up sleeping upstairs on the couch and she slept in her Chicco crib , she fell asleep at 1am, woke at 4:15 and fed til 4:45 and then woke again at 7:40 so I actually got some solid sleep whereas the other nights she was literally feeding straight through the night. I'm not sure if it's the way she just doesn't like her downstairs bed side crib as it's quite wider or can she even be aware of that I don't know 🤣 but we will see how tonight goes

PurpleishDahlia · 30/06/2021 13:52

@TerryRose I'm still waiting. 40+6 today.
I am so coming back next week to re-read all feeding stories with new eyes :)

TerryRose · 30/06/2021 14:20

@PurpleishDahlia ah not long to go so !! So exciting 😊😊 it really does fly by. I was over by 5 days and booked in for induction but contractions started themselves at 1am, it was still a shock even though I was over due 🤣
Yeah it's great to have the feeding stories to read over as I was completely at a loss as I've no experience of babies so didn't know what was " normal "

AlRRRR · 30/06/2021 15:38

@TerryRose and @PurpleishDahlia Feeding stories indeed!!!! I’m super tired …. Mine’s
7 days today, Hara has had 1 cluster feeding day and 1 night, I’ve joined loads of bfeeding groups on fb just to get me through it and tell me it’s all normal 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

I really struggle with nights been disturbed haha

A typical non cluster day is her feeding every 2-3 hours, sleeping , change nappy and repeat, last night i expressed and got partner to give it in a bottle just so I could sleep 9pm for few hours and next time she woke up was 3am and then 5:30am, I’ll take that 🤣🤣

Fishingforhappiness · 30/06/2021 18:40

Went to bed at 10 last night. She fed for half an hour and then woke up and hour later all through the night. Then projectile vomitted all over the bed, bed, my sleeping DH and herself at 4am. Requiring outfit and bedding changes, sponging the head board etc. Then took her for a nappy change and she explosive pooped as I took it off and went all up the wall. Honest you couldn't make it uo. I'm like a zombie. Grin

Lovethatjourneyforme · 30/06/2021 19:02

We're having some very puke filled nights and extremely stroppy days at the moment 😩 she's only quiet when she's asleep, which is not often, or when she's feeding! Otherwise it's a full on scream.
I think the feeding stories are good, prepares you for reality rather than the 'they breastfeed 8-12 times a day and sleep for 3 hours between' nonsense. Maybe if you're lucky 😂 otherwise it's more like 20 times a day and 2 hours at a push haha. Oh and chuck a cluster feed or two in there as well!

AlRRRR · 30/06/2021 19:07

@Fishingforhappiness @Lovethatjourneyforme this 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 serious fatigued! I’m taking each day as it comes, and thinking 1 more day, 1 more day ☺️☺️☺️

PinkPlantCase · 30/06/2021 22:03

We’ve learnt that the newborn insert on his car seat isn’t machine washable. Not helpful for poo-plostions!

@Fishingforhappiness oh dear 🤣 what a night! We already have a stained patch of carpet from a projectile poo off the changing mat.

AlRRRR · 01/07/2021 05:48

@Sitchervice how’s it going :)

Sitchervice · 01/07/2021 14:50

@AlRRRR getting there. I started meds to hold off the PND. Little one is feeding well, put on weight over his birth weight now. Settling at night is still a fight.

PurpleishDahlia · 01/07/2021 15:24

41 weeks today, I turned down induction and booked an assessment for 42, hoping it won't be necessary. I am trying to induce labour with my mind 😛

I want to hear your feeding stories too, not just the babies'. What do you mummies eat? Who makes it? Is breastfeeding making you ravenous?

AlRRRR · 01/07/2021 16:45

@PurpleishDahlia Oooo I really hope it starts for you! Keeping all fingers crossed!!!

Well, I’m just reallllllly thirsty!!! I drink loads and loads of water!!! My partner is cooking every meal so far and also trying to remember to have snacks!!!!
