So nice to hear about all these 20wk scans. Our 20wks isn’t until mid August. However we’re (hopefully) away on holiday for the week& half before until almost 2wks after.

Booked it in January pre being pregnant. And, due to having to reschedule once as I had wrong leaving date in my head when I booked after the 12wk scan, I’ve basically had a bollocking from 2 receptionist when trying to book the 20wk one. Both times they’ve been annoyed that I’ve got holiday booked and won’t immediately cancel it to have an exact date scan. Instead I’m having one earlier at nearer 18wks.

Has anyone else been made to feel crap about trying to have a summer holiday? Surely this must happen a lot with Dec/jan babies? People booking holiday before getting pregnant so can’t make the exact date?? Why make the mums/couples feel worse when they already might be worried about having to scan early/late??

Sparklestars86 · 14/07/2021 14:14

I'd have just kept the actual reason to myself- and just said you were unable to make the original date. Not really their business why! I thought it was something like 18-22 weeks as the window for what they need to see/measure etc anyway so any time in that period would be fine.
Mine is actually at 19+3 which is the date they sent out in the post to me. Xx

Elm98 · 15/07/2021 07:21

It’s our private gender scan this afternoon and I am so nervous I’ve barely slept a wink. I haven’t been as active on here as work has been more stressful than ever Confused

Anyone got any tips on dealing with workplace stress whilst pregnant? Already spoke to my manager but was like talking to a wall.

I’ve also got my midwife appointment at 11am and she said she will be getting the Doppler out to listen to baby’s heartbeat…which I’m so excited about as I’m so anxious something has gone wrong.

Congratulations to everyone who has found out what they are having! It seems like we have a lot of boys…must be something in the water Grin

Em39ma · 15/07/2021 10:35

This might just be a rant or I’m hoping I’m in the right.
My niece comes to my house each morning before as it’s closer to me and my sil drops her off, shes 14. I’ve asked that they tell me if any of my nieces have a cold or any illness. Due to allergies I have had the vaccine, as they don’t know how I will react. Myself and dd now have a cold, eldest niece yes we have all had it too. They had not mention anything to me and eldest said you have let dd get her immunity from somewhere. To me this hasn’t come from a teenager, it’s an adults words. I’m fuming and my brother and sil don’t seem to get why.
I’m going to test myself for COVID just in case, but I am right to be cross.
Sorry needed to vent.

Pineapple87 · 15/07/2021 11:54

At the end of the day you don’t need to be feeling shit while pregnant it’s already hard in itself, tell them don’t bother dropping her off as it’s unfair and how common COVID is I wouldn’t risk it some kids only show signs of a cold if any. You have every right it’s your body your baby that you are protecting. x

Sarahmummy1989 · 16/07/2021 10:48

And the results are in.
We are having a little girl!! So in love

Horehound · 16/07/2021 12:03

Wayhay! Lovely news.
I'm jealous of all the pretty girls clothes you'll get to buy!

Pineapple87 · 16/07/2021 12:14

Congratulations X

TreeRoad · 16/07/2021 12:14

Has anyone already had their 20 week scan (or had previous pregnancies with the scan)?

Mine is next week and from what I’ve read, it’s quite detailed. Does it take a long time? Of course it’s good that it’s so detailed but I’m getting some definite scan-xiety that something will be wrong.

Em39ma · 16/07/2021 13:01

It takes about 20 minutes, they look at spine, stomach, brain, heart and cleft palate etc they checking for abnormalities.
We had to go for a walk and do some star jobs as dd was cooperating when we had hers.

Em39ma · 16/07/2021 13:04

Jumps not jobs.

flowersatthecastle · 16/07/2021 13:31

@TreeRoad I've had mine this time round and had one for a previous pregnancy.

Both times the sonographer said at the start that they'd go quiet whilst they were scanning and it isn't a sign that there's something wrong. I found it nerve wracking, but it's also lovely to get to watch the baby for so long. I would agree it's about 20 mins. This time round the sonographer talked through as she went, so she'd find what she was looking for, do the checks and then say that bit was as expected... whereas first time nothing until the end but everything was as expected then as well.

Lovely reading all of the gender scan results. We aren't finding out and I have no feeling either way - last time I knew it was a boy (or thought I did) and was right. 50:50 chance I suppose Smile

flowersatthecastle · 16/07/2021 13:34

@Em39ma I'd be annoyed as well. It's not up to them what they expose you to AND you're doing them a favour...

As people begin to do more with relaxed measures personally I will start to do less, no crowds for me, etc. It's all about reducing the risk where you can / doing what you feel comfortable with. Once baby arrives I'll feel differently (or I would in principle but doubt I'll have much chance to frequent bars, etc with a newborn to think about Confused)

chloed121 · 16/07/2021 13:41

Got my 29 week scan this evening and the day is going soooooo slowly 🙈

chloed121 · 16/07/2021 13:42

20 not 29🤦🏼‍♀️

Em39ma · 16/07/2021 13:47

@flowersatthecastle I’m the same , from now I’m not going anywhere unless it’s outside with lots of space.
My parents and DH have had both jabs but are still going to limit where they go etc. They will have to do the supermarket on occasion, but others wise we are staying to ourselves.
My niece only has next week then schools out and I don’t need to do it next term as SIL has changed her job and can drop her off.
I just don’t understand why they are lying about it, they just say it’s hayfever!! Apparently it is now contagious 😷

2020mission · 16/07/2021 16:03

Sorry for jumping in but was scanning this thread and spotted @Theawkwardblonde who I recognise from another thread 😅 just wanted to say I've been the same with migraines!

I had weekly migraines from weeks 7-12 (that was slight headache, vision loss, nausea, pins and needles in my arm). Thankfully they subsided but then at 14 weeks I started getting just bad headaches every other day. Just constant pain. Midwife said it's normal.

Hope you and everyone else here are getting on ok. I just reached 16 weeks yesterday. Ended up with a phone appointment for 16 weeks which seemed odd given they are supposed to check BP and urine, but at least I got my screening results.

AnonymousXXIX · 16/07/2021 16:17

My 16 week appointment was over the phone. And my '20' week scan in August will be a little early due to other commitments (my hospital made no fuss about that). Got screening results in the mail (low chance : ) no numbers ).

Theawkwardblonde · 16/07/2021 16:49

@2020mission hey! Was wondering how you were getting on ☺️ I'm the same with headaches, been rocking one since a week yesterday!

2020mission · 16/07/2021 17:53

@Theawkwardblonde I tried upping my water intake but I'm sure I was already drinking plenty and my urine hasn't been yellow or anything to suggest I'm dehydrated 🙃 I find my head hurt more when I bend down or lean over. I've been ok for the past couple of days though thankfully. Hopefully yours will ease off soon too. I see we have super close due dates mines was estimated as 30th Dec at the 12 week scan. I've got the long wait until my 20 week scan now on the 12th August.

Hope it's all right if I stick around in this thread with all you ladies even though I'm late 😅 it's nice to be in the company of others due around the same time.

Theawkwardblonde · 16/07/2021 17:55

@2020mission yes my due date was pushed back from 26th to 29th!
My 20 week scan is the 6th so quite close to yours. Are you going to find out gender?
I've had my third sickness free day in a row so I'm praying that has gone too 🤞🏻🤞🏻

2020mission · 16/07/2021 18:58

@Theawkwardblonde yeah hoping to find out at the 20 week scan 🤞 although we do already think it's a girl from the nub and skull in the 12 week scan photo. Are you going to find out too?

So glad to hear your sickness has eased in the last few days and hopefully that means it will be completely gone soon! I'm so lucky I was never physically sick and only ever had some nausea. It was more just a struggle with poor appetite for me. I've definitely improved in the last week and I'm able to stomach a lot more now so this does seem to be the time things get better.

Have any of you found they wouldn't share the gender at the NHS 20 week scan? I'm guessing a lot of the private gender scans are more due to not wanting to wait any longer 😅

Sparklestars86 · 16/07/2021 19:03

Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy some black maternity work trousers? All I can seem to find are jeans or leggings- neither appropriate for my job! Don't really want to go to the expense of a proper suit if I can help it but just want some smart black trousers. Have tried going up a size but they're too big elsewhere and just look silly! Xx

Scarletpig1 · 16/07/2021 20:35

I got my work trousers from h and m. They were really good till 7 months then I found the band too tight. Got ones from news look cheap in the sale and the belly bit was massive compared to h and m but new look weren't great quality. You could try JoJo maman, I've only bought dresses and tops from there but they are good quality and smart enough for work

@Sparklestars86 I've got mine from Dorothy Perkins and they're great! Got them in navy too X
