Due November 2021 - thread 2!

Following on from the first thread which is nearly full, here we are with another thread to keep us going through the first trimester and beyond.

Welcome Smile. I'm Alack, currently 8+something with twins, due 2 November but likely to make an early appearance. Also have DD (3).

Currently on the group we mostly seem to be food-averse insomniacs who just want a nap, so here's hoping for some pregnancy glow! Grin And less anxiety as the weeks go on.

Hi @sheslikebutter sorry to hear about your last baby, I know how heartbreaking it is as we also lost our little boy at 20 weeks because his brain hadn’t developed properly, so I understand how you feel.
I’m getting extra scans, have you contacted the screening/bad news midwives the ones that work in the scanning department? They booked me an early viability scan and let me specify which consultant I want to be under, I also get a 16 week scan with the consultant. If everything is ok at 20weeks that will be it. So will pay privately then for my sanity (even though I hate scans as I’m sure you do to!)
I’m really sorry your midwife isn’t supporting you. The screening midwives also referred me to the MH midwife because I told her I was struggling, so there’s no shame in letting people know. The bereavement team have also been in touch as well, after I said I was struggling. They’ve changed the service recently and it has improved a lot since I lost our baby in October.

KittyKatyKate · 06/05/2021 09:29

@jennytogether hi Jenny, I have also had an early mc (11weeks) but called straight away, the screening tests at the dating scan have to be done at a certain number of weeks, your dates might be slightly off too. I guess it depends if you want the screening (Edwards Downs, Patau) but if you do I’d recommend getting in the system earlier. I know how tough scans are after a loss too, but it’s worth it to know everything right now is fine. Everything crossed for you this time.

sheslikebutter · 06/05/2021 19:36

@KittyKatyKate I'm really sorry to hear about your little boy. There really are no words.

Thanks so much for your advice, to be honest I didn't even think of mentioning it. For some reason I just thought they'd have things in place for people in our position, so that in our next pregnancy it'd be flagged up. But I get that that is completely unreasonable, especially during this last year! Next time I see a midwife I'll mention it. I am struggling a lot, mainly with anxiety and weird brain fog too.

I asked at my booking appointment whether I'd get a 16 week scan, but the answer was a no, and I should have pursued it more but didn't want to overstep. I think that's my problem, I need to be more assertive.

I'm glad you're getting more scans and support this time, again I'm really sorry about your little boy. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

Maya000 · 06/05/2021 19:39

@KS88 congrats on your lovely scan! (Sorry I tried private messaging but, it did not work) I just noticed you posted a scan and it contains your personal details/hospital ID. I'm not too sure if it was intentional just thought I'd point it out incase you had missed it. Best Wishes xx

Maya000 · 06/05/2021 19:46

I hope everyone's getting on okay. Its lovely to see so many lovely scans. I went for a combined dating scan and NT scan. I am coming up to 14 weeks and still have no contact details for my midwife as of yet. The sonographer seemed concerned my NT value was high but, when I checked my notes she had documented it as 1.5mm which I didn't think was high. It is so frustrating not being able to discuss your results with a health professional. Was just wondering if anyone had anyone knowledge of NT measurements? (I am just awaiting the blood test results to see if I am high risk)

Aisforharlot · 06/05/2021 19:49

That sounds stressful @Maya000. Is there a contact number for the midwifery dept or team on the front of your notes?

Maya000 · 06/05/2021 20:01

@Aisforharlot thanks for your message. Oh I tried calling the generic number for community midwives but I couldn't get through to anyone. So, I called my GP and they said they have got me an appt with a midwife for the end of May but, it just feels like a long wait before I can discuss/understand my results

Aisforharlot · 06/05/2021 20:20

Fwiw my nt was 1.6 and it seems to being the middle of the acceptable range after a quick google.
My next appt isn't til the beginning of june, when I guess the combined blood test results will be discussed?
Shoddy that you couldn't get through to anyone. I remember that was the case with ds1 in 2014.

AlackAlasAlackaday · 06/05/2021 20:32

Hi all, sorry, lots of radio silence from me as I'm just so bloody exhausted. Still at the sharp end of morning sickness at 14/15 weeks and had a call with the GP today to prescribe something, fingers crossed it helps.

@Aisforharlot in our trust (London) it's a letter within a week with an all-clear on the combined test, or a phone call even sooner if they think something warrants further investigation. Seems like the right sort of timeframes for something urgent no? I'd be surprised if you were waiting until June.

Hi newbieM!

@Aisforharlot I had DD in 2019 and I remember the nt was the same (1.5mm) so, I am just confused why the sonographer was concerned this time. I guess time will tell. I really appreciate your time and responses! Wishing you all the best! Xx

happygolucky20 · 06/05/2021 20:56

Hi @Maya000 we went for a private scan at 10 weeks on Monday and we were told we might have a prominent NT - cue a solid four days of googling NT measurements, I consider myself a pro now 😂 anyway, anything over 3.5 is considered high. You are completely in the normal zone so please don’t worry. I think America set it to 2.9 so you are still well within their save limits too.
We sadly weren’t given measurements as it was too soon so we are off to London tomorrow for a harmony test 🤞

happygolucky20 · 06/05/2021 20:57

I do wish sonographers understood the stress their “off the cuff” comments can have on pregnant ladies - to say you’re high when, it really isn’t

Maya000 · 06/05/2021 21:28

@happygolucky20 thank you so much for sharing your experience! I wouldn't have been concerned if I had just read what she documented (but like you said) it was her indirect comments/expressions that made me anxious. I wish you all the best for your scan! I really do hope it goes well xx

Katy4321 · 06/05/2021 21:49

@Maya000 mine was 1.6mm at 11w+4 and understand this is the middle of the range. Largely because of my age, 44, my combined was chance was 1 in 34, which I totally expected as the combined test is very conservative and tries to capture all who might just possibly have one of the trisomies. Screening midwife had talked to me before and warned me not to read too much into the number and it is still 33 in 34 chance all OK. Because of my age I had a private Nipt genetic test in parallel and that was showed no issue. I'm not a big fan of combined test, and had read a lot of posts on here, showing it does cause significant anxiety.

Katy4321 · 06/05/2021 21:56

@alackalasalackaday sorry you still have bad morning sickness (and all the others still suffering). Hope it eases soon

Welcome to all the new people

Maya000 · 06/05/2021 22:11

@Katy4321 Glad to hear at least you had your midwife to prepare you for the results. It is just the fear of the unknown. But, thank you for sharing your experience it definitely helped xx

Girlmama3 · 07/05/2021 07:57

It's scan today! I've already had 2! Dreading being weighed before it 😩

Good luck to everyone else having a scan today x

Iloveyou3x · 07/05/2021 08:30

Good luck for scans this week.
I’m awaiting my combined results too. Got my appointments through for anti-d, glucose tolerance test, 16 week midwife appt and 20 week scan on my app!
Only 4 weeks til I can have my gender scan!!

Kitttycatt · 07/05/2021 08:39

Hi @Maya000 my NT was 2mm at 13w1d. My sonographer was very experienced, she wasn't concerned and said anything under 3.5mm is considered "normal" and this will be combined with the blood tests to see your risk level. If you are high risk you will get a call within 3 days, low risk, letter within 10 days. So try not to worry.

Iloveyou3x · 07/05/2021 08:53

Is anyone feeling very emotional? I have woken up today and can’t stop crying. I do have a history of anxiety but am not on ADs as mine weren’t safe in pregnancy. I literally am not able to stop the tears this morning!!

Maya000 · 07/05/2021 08:59

@Kitttycatt that's reassuring thank you for sharing your experience! Hopefully we can all overcome the anxiety and enjoy our pregnancies soon! Thanks again hope you have a good day xx

All the best to those having scans this week X

jorisbonsonstoupe · 07/05/2021 12:19

I had my combined test and have been told I'm 1 in 2 risk for Down's syndrome and 1:29 for Edwards SadI'm so worried. Being booked in for CVS.

Girlmama3 · 07/05/2021 12:56

@jorisbonsonstoupe Do they offer the harmony test for a high NHS result? Some hospitals do xx

Girlmama3 · 07/05/2021 12:57

I had my scan. I'm confirmed a week ahead, 11th November. The sonographer was brutal, it bloomin hurt. Also got the worst photos! So glad I had a private scan last week x

Maya000 · 07/05/2021 13:42

@jorisbonsonstoupe sorry I can't help or provide you with any useful information but, I just wanted to reach out to you and wish you all the best for your CVS. Hope it goes well. I can imagine you must be feeling very anxious. Thinking of you xx

@Girlmama3 hope you're relieved after having the scan! Smile Some sonographers could really do with some people skills X
