Due November 2021 - thread 2!

Following on from the first thread which is nearly full, here we are with another thread to keep us going through the first trimester and beyond.

Welcome Smile. I'm Alack, currently 8+something with twins, due 2 November but likely to make an early appearance. Also have DD (3).

Currently on the group we mostly seem to be food-averse insomniacs who just want a nap, so here's hoping for some pregnancy glow! Grin And less anxiety as the weeks go on.

Congratulations @sheslikebutter, it’s a scary time and especially if you have experienced loss. Can you refer yourself to the EPU? I was told I couldn’t have a reassurance scan “as I had only suffered one loss” but then randomly they called and offered me one at 8 weeks. Fingers crossed you get someone nice at the end of the phone.

Just wondered how everyone else is doing with sickness etc? I still can’t really drink but have picked up a strange love/need for French stick with, yep it’s gross, ketchup. I was sick three times yesterday but managed to keep everything down today but not sure what’s better.

Roopers · 06/04/2021 17:49

Hi @sheslikebutter! I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.

I got in touch with my EPU this time round and was told that even though I'd had a MMC and a MC last year they weren't offering reassurance scans due to covid. This may differ by area but if you're worried then do give them a call - I had a good chat with them about my worries. They did tell me that if I wanted a private scan to wait until 8.5 weeks and to go to a clinic that offered a transvaginal incase the sonographer needed the option.

I've got my midwife next week at 8 weeks which I haven't made yet as MMC at 7+5 and MC at 5 so i have fingers crossed that we will make it this time and I'm taking it day by day.

In terms of cravings I'm so thirsty all the time and craving was initially salt and vinegar crisps but the thought of any carbs at the moment is like licking a sandpit. I'm snacking little and often but feel permanently hungover and eating only subsides the sickness for a short period. I had a pitta and cup of hot water half an hour ago and I'm already thinking how to quell the woozy feeling.

We caught up with family at the weekend for some garden picnics and told them we were pregnant again and it was very strange telling them that we weren't getting too excited as they clearly were and had loads of questions. My mum and sister have never had miscarriages and fell pregnant quickly and easily (it's taken us 15 months to this point) so it was quite awkward as they were basically already picking names!

Right - I'm off to find a snack! maybe an ice lolly this time. Love to everyone.

pineapple2021 · 06/04/2021 18:07

My nausea comes and goes in waves.... like people have said kind of feel hungover and if I cough or anything feel like I could be sick.... totally fine at times though it's so random.

vixey · 06/04/2021 18:26

does anyone else get really anxious at every twinge. every small twinge or pain and I'm panicking. I'm so scared I'm going to lose this baby, I've almost convinced myself I'm going to lose it, it's like a fear of the unknown. I dont know what is normal :/

pineapple2021 · 06/04/2021 18:31

@vixey yep absolutely. Convinced my scan on Saturday morning will be there..... had a twinge in the side last night and was then convinced it's ectopic.

vixey · 06/04/2021 20:37

@pineapple2021
I'm getting twinges all over my belly. I'm starting to think it's a bit of constipation but I'm not sure and the more I think about it the more worried I'm getting. I've got to say I'm not really enjoying being pregnant, it's just so worrying. xxx

pineapple2021 · 06/04/2021 21:09

@vixey totally know what you mean. I've seen people online painting nursery's at 7 weeks and I'm so far from even letting myself accept there might be a baby in there!

vixey · 06/04/2021 21:13

@pineapple2021
I'm exactly the same, I've bought two outfits and a blanket and I feel like im tempting fate even doing that. its the scariest time in my life by far. xxx

pineapple2021 · 06/04/2021 21:39

@vixey haha yeah I bought a baby grow for my parents to open and I can't actually look at it properly until my first scan! It's so ridiculous.

vixey · 06/04/2021 22:27

pineapple2021
I always said I wasn't superstitious about the whole 12 week thing, until I actually got pregnant, now it's terrifying. xx

nchristie · 06/04/2021 22:57

@sheslikebutter I had a MMC at 16 wks last year after having high NT measurement and suspected fetal heart development issues. I think maybe because I was connected with the fetal medicine unit at the hospital already they're talking the lead on my care this time and they did do an early scan for me just before 8wks. If you did have a number for the fetal medicine unit at your hospital you could try calling them to say you're pregnant again to see if they can offer you any extra support. I don't know if it would help and might just be extra stress to try but thought I'd mention it just in case.

nchristie · 06/04/2021 23:16

@vixey it's so easy to get anxious about everything. I think last time around I almost felt like if I wasn't anxious I was doing it wrong, the anxiety became part of the superstition. I lost that baby at 16wks and one of the first things I realised during the grief was the anxiety hadn't helped or hindered the baby's development at all, just made me miserable. And somehow that's helped me be less anxious this time around. I try to just take each day as it comes and let myself enjoy the happiness of being pregnant in this moment. I do still get a bit worried at aches and pains or if I don't think I'm feeling nauseous enough. But I find it easier not to dwell on those worries this time around. I don't know if any of that helps at all, hope you can find ways to stop the anxiety taking over.

Randomness12 · 07/04/2021 10:23

The anxiety is real. I’m 8 weeks today, have the midwife later this morning by phone. I was so nauseas yesterday I went to bed at 7pm with no dinner and after crying. I felt slightly better this morning but it’s creeping up again. I am so exhausted though, I could honestly nap every few hours.

I am quite superstitious, will be waiting until 12 weeks before we tell anyone but that might be fuelled by a previous loss as 10 weeks. Still haven’t decided on an early scan or NIPT testing yet, feel too unwell to think about it properly.

Roopers · 07/04/2021 12:15

How did the midwife go @Randomness12 - hope all was ok. Do you need to go in for bloods etc?

Is everyone doing ok today? I had a very strange dizziness episode this morning that ended up with me laying on the cold bathroom floor in just my pants waiting for the feeling and nausea to pass. Sickness is so much worse the last few days an I'm only just 7 weeks. My last two pregnancies were nowhere near this so I'm (secretly hoping) wondering if it's twins.

What is everyone snacking on to help the nausea? Im currently alternating between onion bhajis, yoghurts and ice lollies. Small and perfectly formed and helps me get from work email to work email.

happygolucky20 · 07/04/2021 13:23

@Roopers I’m the same, have had two previous pregnancies and didn’t vomit once in them, this time it’s horrendous. I have been sick on and off for days but now I’m sick after every sip of water or any tiny amount of food since 7pm
last night and I’m only 6 weeks 3 days - surely I have a 5 aside team in there?!?! Might have to call the doctors if it continues as I can’t do anything.

vixey · 07/04/2021 13:47

@roopers
my sickness has been awful! I've never felt as ill as I have done in the past few weeks.
unfortunately mine kicked in about 7ish weeks and is still there now. it's a little better but still there at 9 weeks.
I've been snacking on ginger cake, drinking boiling water with ginger grated into it and a slice of lemon in it, and going through a whole lot of ice lollies. their great for keeping your fluids up and your thirst quenched but not too heavy on ur stomach so highly recommend them.
otherwise keep trying to have little sips. I made the mistake of gulping down a glass of juice coz it was ice cold and I was so thirsty, just brought it straight back up. I know you'll be thirsty but you don't gain anything from gulping it down xxx

Randomness12 · 07/04/2021 14:45

@Roopers the midwife went really well thanks, was lots of questions about medical history and the birth of my DD and previous m/c as I had complications with both. We talked about birth and she had my notes which show I’m an elective section this time, between 38-39 weeks. I’ll also be consultant led from 20 weeks with additional scans as I had issues with my placenta function last time. Feels a bit scary but like I’m being well looked after. Everything is preventative and its good to have a plan. I have to go for bloods etc next week.

I am only managing to sip too @vixey and I am eating almost exclusively carbs as it is all I can stomach. I have to force down lunch then I feel a bit better for an hour or so then it’s back.

vixey · 07/04/2021 14:52

@randomness12
its the worst isn't it. I dont know how I'm still functioning. my husband is being amazing, but think he's getting fed up. it's just not fun is it. xxxxx

DoveGreylove · 07/04/2021 14:54

Hi mums, can I ask if anyone would take the vaccine whilst pregnant? Or if anyone has any information to help me make my decision? If I was going to take it, I wouldn't consider taking it until I'm over the 12 weeks mark and into second trimester.

mrssunshinexxx · 07/04/2021 15:05

No definitely not the gov website says not to unless you are vulnerable @DoveGreylove x

Girlmama3 · 07/04/2021 15:10

@DoveGreylove I’ll have it but not the Oxford one.

Robyn101 · 07/04/2021 16:10

@DoveGreylove my GP has advised me to due to a really high BMI and people facing job role.
I’ve not fully decided yet

InTheNightWeWillWish · 07/04/2021 16:51

Hi, I’m going to join if that’s OK?

I’m about 7 weeks pregnant but my cycles are longer and so dating from my last period puts me almost at 9 weeks. I’m still waiting on a call back from the midwifes about my first appointment, which if they are dating me at 9 weeks I’d have thought I’d be having about now. I’ve noticed that some of you who are 7 weeks have got their appointment for the next couple of weeks, so I’m a bit concerned that I’ve not got mine. I rang early last week and the midwife I spoke to said she’d assign a midwife to me and they’d call me back with an appointment by the end of the week. I called again yesterday and they say they’ll be in touch the next day on the voicemail and I still haven’t heard anything today.

Symptoms wise, I have some nausea, bloating, tiredness, lots of cramping but I just cannot get warm. I’m a cold person anyway but this is extreme even for me. I’m wearing jeans, jumpers, slippers and I’ve got a blanket over me and I’m still shivering. The heating has been on full whack for the last four days and DH is walking round in shorts and T-shirt’s.

Maya000 · 07/04/2021 17:05

@DoveGreylove we had a seminar at work on the impact of the vaccine on fertility and pregnancy. I hope it helps. I am not personally having the vaccine as I don't believe there is enough information around to support the safety of this vaccine for pregnant women. (I work in clinical research). mcusercontent.com/0161982dfaa6444d0a0e0a9cf/files/57ca13e0-fdcc-4a71-89ca-f2beb38c4341/Covid_Vaccination_Answering_your_questions_on_pregnancy_and_fertility_slides_24.03.2021.pdf

Maya000 · 07/04/2021 17:16

Congratulations to all those that have recently joined (I am still catching up with the thread).

@Hannah94L congratulations on your amazing news!

My midwife referral somehow got lost in the process so I had to make another self-referral. Hoping to have bloods etc done before the 10 week mark. I had a private scan yesterday and the sonographer pointed out that I have subchorionic hematoma. I am hoping it doesn't cause me any issues. On the bright side, I could see tiny movement on the scan which made my day.

I hope you are all getting on okay! And for those that are feeling sick. I feel your pain. I have all day nausea (not being sick) and can't tolerate the smell of anything. Arghh!
