@leftitlate37 oh bless I know the feeling of getting an extortionate bill from the garage! Ooh how exciting, booking appointment is one step further!

Mines not until the 12th, the wait is killing me. Symptom wise I've felt fine really, bar sore boobs and being hungrier than normal but then going off my dinner halfway through.

NRDoss · 07/10/2020 10:21

@imisscoffee that's a lovely scan pic and you must be super excited to quickly jump through a few weeks ahead Smile

@Manth84 sorry to hear about your covid diagnosis, but like others pointed out, there are no cases or studies suggesting affecting the baby. Rest up and take care xx

How's everybody doing? I'm having a private scan on Saturday, started my 9th week today and symptoms wise sore boobs, and mild nausea episodes - cannot stomach anything, the very thought of food is making me sick. Have lost weight considerably over the past few weeks. Anybody else having headaches? I'm having one since morning, although it could be due to weather change as well.

leftitlate37 · 07/10/2020 11:14

sorry to hear about headaches @NRDoss - hope you are drinking plenty! SO sorry you can't eat, must be horrible. are you getting enough in to keep your energy up?? Good luck with the scan on Saturday!
Im still tempted to get one. had booking in appt today, nice midwife and all being well will be seen as their continuity care pathway so should either have her or her job share partner which is good. seems so strange to be asked so many questions etc and go through this process when im still not convinced everything is ok, or if there is even a baby growing?! not sure can wait til the 12 to 14 week scan to find out.
sure not alone in feeling hugely anxious but a small part of me was relived that i like the environment of this birth centre and really fortunate they are allowing partners to 12 and 20 week scans. just wish it was the same everywhere for everyone.

ScottishLassie91 · 07/10/2020 12:28

@NRDoss sorry to hear about not feeling good! Could it be dehydration maybe? I had to get anti-sickness tablets as couldn't keep a thing down and started feeling dehydrated and was waking up with headaches. Hopefully it passes for you and good luck with the scan!

@leftitlate37 thats really reassuring to hear about the midwife but totally know what you mean. I've had to call my midwife already about sickness and they were lovely which made me feel a lot better. Hoping the same for my scans that DH can come to both!

I've got an early scan booked for Monday, counting down the days now and should be around 8 weeks at that point! X

leftitlate37 · 07/10/2020 13:11

ah lots of luck @ScottishLassie91 how exciting! really hope DH can go to your other scans with you, i think its so important, and whilst totally on board with keeping things as safe as possible re covid - im glad that they are now relaxing some measures but ensuring safety in other ways such as shorter slot and masks etc. how is your sickness now?? sorry you've been suffering :(
be interested to hear what due date they give you as we are really similar with the dates we think we are! (obv i know could both be entirely diff what with cycles etc!)

MagpieSong · 07/10/2020 15:07

@NRDoss Sorry to hear you're feeling rough. Are you keeping your blood sugar up despite not eating? I find if mine drops, a headache is a major symptom and I've noticed it recently alongside the nausea. I try to keep it up through liquids as the thought of food often makes me feel ugh atm. Crossing my fingers for you that it passes within the next few weeks and you get to make up for the initial weight loss. My best tip from a friend was if you can find anything you can eat sometimes, keep it on hand and eat the moment you feel able to stomach it - don't wait for a meal time or anything.

It's strange how different each pregnancy is, I'm sure I'm having far stronger aversions to things this time compared to last and a lot more nausea. I've never wanted to vomit at the smell of basil before!

@leftitlate37 I'm glad your midwife is nice and your partner can go to the 12 and 20 week scans. I think we've still only got a partner for the 20 week. Hope you both have a really good 12 week scan.

@imisscoffee beautiful scan! Wow, that's a big difference in timing. How exciting!

I'm a bit nervous about antenatal care this time round. I had issues last time that were really upsetting and had to change hospitals at the last minute (2 days before I gave birth). It was poor handling of me and ds' as patients and I was made to feel rubbish. Logically, I know it was a rare experience, but it really put me off.

NRDoss · 07/10/2020 15:45

@leftitlate37 @ScottishLassie91 thanks! Could be dehydration, because cannot drink a glass of plain water either - atm sipping warm water and forcing myself to drink juiced water. Used to be a big fan of teas but sadly those are added to my aversion list as well.

@MagpieSong Oh, I never knew the link between blood sugar levels and headaches, will keep an eye on it too - the idea of having liquid food sounds good actually, I will try that. Thanks x

The only thing I can munch in without problem are nakd protein bars, so that is keeping me okay so far. Will keep a handful of them with me Smile

leftitlate37 - glad to hear about your experience with midwife, it would be really good to have partner for 12th week scan. Hope it goes well :)

ScottishLassie91 - Good luck for your scan on Monday :)

MagpieSong - I'm sorry to hear about your previous experience, it must have been stressful to go through and make those last minute changes. I hope this time you would have a good experience with your birthing center xx

imisscoffee · 07/10/2020 16:24

@NRDoss thanks, yes definitely makes me feel better knowing 1st trimester is almost up! I'm also getting a lot of headaches, which I'm blaming on dehydration. I usually drink 3l of water a day but lately I'm lucky to drink 1l, just can't drink for some reason.

ScottishLassie91 · 07/10/2020 19:15

@leftitlate37 I agree, completely understand the safety element but I reason that midwives had said arrest among women in labour had skyrocketed when they brought in all the restrictions with partners. I'm so sceptical but i always think I bet if it was a mum in power they wouldn't have made those decisions lol!
Sickness isnt just as bad with the tablets now thank you keeping some things down. How are you doing? 💜
Oh I know, I'm really hoping they give me an estimate. Yeah I think were only about a week apart as im 7+1 just now based on LMP 😊

@NRDoss hopefully you feel better soon! Sickness is horrendous isnt it xx

Gingergeek89 · 07/10/2020 19:51

The partners thing is a real shame. My trust has no partners for scans even though our county has a low infection rate, which is a shame however partners are allowed to stay for the entire birth and stay over if needed as long as they don’t leave the ward. Main reason we did a private early scan and will probably do another at some point later on so he can see, but definitely feeling nervous at having to be on my own at my 12 week scan next week

OP posts:
leftitlate37 · 07/10/2020 20:19

sorry to hear that @Gingergeek89. thats really tough esp when your county has a low infection rate. u get that they may have to tweak regs accordingly but when infection is low it's a big shame. remind me when you had your early scan? am sure everything will be fine with you and your baby, wonder if they let you video call your partner so least can be there virtually?
@ScottishLassie91 can the tablets have helped you, that must be a big relief, hopefully u will stop needing the tablets soon tho! u are so right re what would have happened if a woman in power ;) bet its different in NZ!!!
@NRDoss glad the Nakd bars go down well, its good they come in so many random tasty flavours, hopefully a different one for each time of day ;)

Gingergeek89 · 07/10/2020 20:34

@leftitlate37 had one just over 4 weeks ago at 7 and a half weeks. They let you take a video at the end so will be able to show husband that and bless him he is still taking time off work to take me so he will be in the car park at least. On the plus side the hospital has one of the best maternity wards in the South East so feel that I am in very good hands.

Sorry to hear that people have been feeling so rotten! It is savage. Nearly at 11 weeks and finally starting to ease a bit more every day, the end should be in sight. Still don’t remember what it feels like to feel well haha. I’ve sometimes found that having some sweets you can stomach helps with the nausea and any lightheadedness as it gives a bit of a sugar boost. That and cold juice. Isn’t it frustrating when most people don’t know what’s going on and you have to fake feeling normal?

Gingergeek89 · 07/10/2020 20:35

Wait it must have been 3 weeks not 4. Silly pregnancy brain haha

Also for funky dreams: I dreamed last night that I had a political disagreement with Nicola Sturgeon on a radio show so she outed my pregnancy early. It is literally stuff you couldn’t make up conscious

ahahhhaha @Gingergeek89 that is hilarious! not sure ive laughed today until read that, thanks :) just shows the random stuff thats kinda niggling in the back of our minds and comes up when you dream! I do love how catty she was though as her comeback!!
never noticed your maths was wrong!! glad to hear you'll be in good hands and nice that DH coming too :) think mine would like a bit of chill time in the car to have a good snooze haha. glad you are starting to feel better gradually, long may it last! keep us posted on any crazy dreams :) x

ScottishStardust · 07/10/2020 21:05

@Gingergeek89 this is the best one yet. Mine seem to have settled down a touch.

I've been prescribed 5mg folic acid from the midwife but wondering if anyone knows if I can take prenatal vitamins which also contain folic acid? Is this too much FA? Tried to google but difficult to find anything.

RustyCat · 08/10/2020 09:19

@Gingergeek89 it's sad isn't it? I have to go to my 12 wk scan on my own and DH can't come with me at all his work wont allow him out as they have some stupid special launch -insert eye roll-.

I am absolutely bricking incase it's bad news, I know its stupid but the last scan I had (back in April) wasn't good news so I'm a bit nervy.

Hopefully it will be fine, I have the day off work so if all good I am planning on wondering down to see him at work and show him the scan picture 😁. Possibly with a celebratory takeaway lunch!

Gingergeek89 · 08/10/2020 09:56

@RustyCat that is such a shame that they won’t let him out! I know that there are legal requirements that fathers are allowed unpaid leave to attend 2 antenatal appointments during a pregnancy so maybe if he speaks to HR they can sort it out for him? Though I know companies don’t always do everything by the book unfortunately.

Hope all goes well with your scan and it’s completely understandable that you are nervous. When is it?

I've got my 12 week scan next week too. We had an early one but I'm still nervous, especially having to go alone. Plus mine is at 8am and on a day when DD isn't in preschool so we have no childcare, meaning DH can't even come with me and wait in the car. We can't really ask our parents to look after our 3yo at that time (they'd have to leave their homes by 7am to get to us on time) so its just me going alone.

RustyCat · 08/10/2020 10:40

@Gingergeek89 mines 4th November so s little while away. There's no physical way they will let him out it's some big special system release thing and he has to be there for it, we were meant to be on holiday that week but they cancelled his holiday because of the system thing.

I have told him for the other scans he has to be there or I will be ringing his boss and HR and giving them a lashing 🤣

Gingergeek89 · 08/10/2020 11:03

@UnicornAndSparkles oh what a shame he can’t come. Hopefully all goes well especially after a good early scan.

@RustyCat oh my yes it seems like they definitely need him there! Yes I’d be on the phone to bosses too if they get funny about the next one. I’m self employed luckily so have moved a client clash due to a ‘hospital appointment’ as haven’t informed any of my clients yet. Want to wait until after the scan and NIPT results as they will need to line up replacements for when I take Mat leave and don’t want to have to do the whole rounds if something is wrong as I have nearly 20 clients at the moment. OH’s company have been good about it thankfully

Anyone around 10 weeks and their symptoms have completely stopped for 3-4 days or more?

NRDoss · 08/10/2020 13:02

It is a shame that partners cannot accompany for the 12th week scan. either the centre has no partner rule, or their workplaces are awful about it.

I'm still not sure what our midwifery centre is going to do, my first booking appt will be on 20th and I will be around 11 weeks at that time. Awaiting letter to know when my scan would be.

I hope these aversions and nausea goes off after first trimester. counting the days to cross first milestone and to feel well enough to eat lol

Gingergeek89 · 08/10/2020 13:35

@NRDoss my nausea is definitely better now than it was a few weeks ago. Nausea is still there but the appetite is starting to overcome it more often (I’m now 10+6) so should definitely improve soon. After the HCG peak at 9 and a half week most people tend to start feeling better gradually apparently.
