Anyone else playing the waiting game for baby

I'm 39 weeks today, so baby could come at any time.
I'm due to have a sweep next week, so I'm hoping that'll get baby moving!

Is anyone else playing the waiting game?

38 weeks tomorrow , 3rd baby!

London91 · 22/08/2020 11:34

@Sherbet27 Congratulations! Have you had any twinges/signs yet?

39 weeks here! Not feeling any signs of labour - not that I'd know, as it's my first.

mable88 · 22/08/2020 12:08

40 + 3 here, first baby so I am expecting it to go on a while longer. Hmm Had a sweep Thursday, 1cm dilated but now no way of knowing if anything has changed since then! Had what feels like constant Braxton Hicks/tightenings of my bump but nothing that feels like what I assume a proper contraction is like. What's making it worse is that I wasn't able to book in with my midwife for my 40 week appointment as she was fully booked, so someone from the local midwife team was meant to ring me to fit me in for my 41 week appointment and sweep but not heard anything so far. I'd feel better if I knew when I would be being seen and get an update on how things are progressing! Confused

TwinkleStars15 · 22/08/2020 12:12

38+2 here, second baby and been having Braxton hicks/period pains for the last week, and some stop starting contractions last night. Lost my mucus plus yesterday too - thoroughly fed up! Think it’s all because baby isn’t in the optimal position so this could go on for days/weeks (back to back most of the time) Sad

Jomum2020 · 22/08/2020 13:12

40 weeks tomorrow! I have been offered a sweep from 38 weeks but mw hasn’t been able to do it as baby hasn’t engaged. Getting re checked on Monday but it doesn’t feel like much has changed..! Feel like I’ll be waiting for a good while longer.
Is anyone doing anything to try and encourage baby out?

Bubblesbebe · 22/08/2020 13:43

39+2 here! Same as above.. some Braxton hicks and period pain but nothing else.. also baby moves like crazy every evening pushing down there, it really feels like he is trying to get out but then nothing happens!

TwinkleStars15 · 22/08/2020 14:16

@Jomum2020 is baby not engaged at all? I’ve also been offered early sweeps and had one on Wednesday - baby was only 2/5th engaged. I do wonder if it’s triggered all these false contractions though, rather than the real deal!

Chefwifelife · 22/08/2020 14:19

Hey @London91 I’m 38+5 with baby number 2 and decidedly weary. Thought things were starting yesterday during an outing to ikea then it all stopped! I was 42 weeks when I had my DS and my god I’m not up for that again! X

London91 · 22/08/2020 16:46

@ImaSababa I'm a ftm too, so I'm in the same boat. I'm over analysing everything hoping that something is happening.

@mable88 Fingers crossed they get you booked in soon. Has the midwife discussed inducing you?

@TwinkleStars15 I'd be feeling fed up too! Especially if I thought things had started moving along. Fingers crossed it won't be too much longer for you!

@Jomum2020 I've not been doing anything to try and get baby moving. Just been hoping for the best really whilst feeling sorry for myself lol.

@Bubblesbebe Hopefully that's a sign something will happen soon. Smile Maybe he'll make an appearance soon!

@Chefwifelife oh blimey, hopefully it won't be the same this time. If baby isn't here by her due date, I will be induced within 3 days, as she's on the chunky side. So at least I know I won't be waiting too long.

@TwinkleStars15 nope... she’s pointing in the right direction but her head is totally free. I believe this isn’t unusual with your second baby and a lot of the time they won’t engage until right when you go into labour... (I actually did a different thread and a lot of people said this was the case for them) however at this point it’s still very frustrating haha as I’d like a sweep to see if I can get things moving!

@London91 that’s probs for the best! I have eaten so many pineapples my mouth hurts!! Hahahaha!

I wonder who will be first out of us all.... if any babes name an appearance soon be sure to update!

Ginblooded · 22/08/2020 16:54

Hello ladies! I'm in the same boat, I'm 40+3 today 😭 had a sweep on Thursday which has done nothing unfortunately, although she said my cervix was 'unfavourable' so I wasn't expecting much.
Second baby, first one came 39+5 so this is very annoying 🙃

mable88 · 22/08/2020 17:20

@London91 nothing re induction so far, didn't see my normal midwife and from what I can tell the induction chat is had at the 41 week appointment, which is the one I haven't been able to book in, so I am getting stressed that I won't get an appointment sorted and therefore won't get an induction booked. My husband has pointed out that I am being ridiculous and if worst comes to worse and I can't get hold of the community midwife team (which tends to only be an answerphone and last time I called it no-one ever got back to me), I can ring the maternity day assessment unit and explain the situation, apologise that I know it's not really what they are there for but see if they can put me through to where I need to go. Thank goodness one of us is still thinking rationally 🙃

@Jomum2020 I've tried all the usual suggestions (spicy food, pineapple, walking, bouncing on a ball, sex) - none of those have worked so far for me! From what I have read, I think they tend to only work if things are about to/have already kicked off anyway - very annoying! Just wish there was a reliable at-home method that would work - obviously inductions tend to be successful but they are a last resort that you don't get until you are really overdue! 😩

idontknow54789 · 22/08/2020 17:25

39 weeks today as well. My first was born at 38+2 and this one has been engaged for weeks so I fully expected him by now! Had mild cramps and braxton hicks for the past week. I had nothing with my first and all of a sudden was in active labour so didn't expect all this this time around!

Tiredandsick2 · 22/08/2020 18:17

40 weeks no sign and baby boy engaged either also just under the threshold with anaemia to have baby at the local MLU so hoping I can get that sorted before she arrives!

Bubblesbebe · 22/08/2020 18:19

@London91 I hope so! But starting to lose hope, as it seems like it’s just a new evening routine and in the mornings he just forgets he has to come out..

For those who got a sweep, did the midwife offer it to you and did it on the same appointment? I have my next appointment at 40+1, and I am just wondering if they will do it that same day on the spot or if I will have to wait.

I almost feel bad being so impatient when the baby isn’t even 40 weeks yet... but can’t wait to see him!

Ginblooded · 22/08/2020 18:27

@Bubblesbebe at my 38 week appointment the midwife mentioned that I would be offered a sweep at my next appointment and to think about if I'd like one. She asked and again at my 40 week (I was 40+1) and did it there and then. I don't see why you'd have to wait 😊

TwinkleStars15 · 22/08/2020 18:32

@Jomum2020 yes that’s the same as I have been told too, second baby’s often bob around for a lot longer and don’t engage until much later. Due to that, I’m not sure I understand why they won’t give you a sweep if baby isn’t engaged?

@Bubblesbebe could you maybe text her and request it?

I’m not pleased to hear these stories of second babies being later than first! Angry ha. My first was 39 weeks so I was counting on this one being earlier, sounds like I might need to readjust my expectations!

roarfeckingroarr · 22/08/2020 19:02

33 weeks so tantalisingly close but still another few weeks of getting even bigger. Best of luck to all of you!

London91 · 22/08/2020 19:09

@Jomum2020 I don't think it'll be long before I'm willing to try almost anything. Grin

@mable88 Well you have a very good excuse for your brain to be scrambled. Fingers crossed you'll go into labour soon.

@Bubblesbebe I think once you have hit a certain point time goes so slowly that you just want baby to hurry up. My sweep is booked for next week. My trust at least pre-book them, they don't just do them whilst you're there. Which would make tons more sense to me.

MizMoonshine · 22/08/2020 19:09

39+4 she was engaged at 38 weeks. Not a sausage going on here. She's not showing any signs of budging. I'm going to be pregnant forever.
Second baby.

Jomum2020 · 22/08/2020 20:38

@TwinkleStars15 I “think” it’s because there is a risk that the mw could break my waters and If there isn’t a head lodged there then there’s a tiny chance of a cord prolapses.... but I assume that’s the same risk if I just go into spontaneous labour. She’s had me in twice a week since 38 weeks so I’m sure she’s as eager as me to get this baby out instead of taking up all her appointments.

If I get one more “any sign of baby” texts I’m going to throw my phone down the toilet 😩🙈

TwinkleStars15 · 22/08/2020 21:08

@Jomum2020 yes I guess that makes sense. I hope baby engages for you soon! With mine, the midwife said that baby is 2/5th engaged for the last 2 weeks but baby still moves around A LOT, i.e back to back, then to the left side, and a few times a day definitely bum in front! How does that work with being engaged? I wonder if baby is still quite free and that’s why they are so mobile? Hmm

YummyInMyTummy · 22/08/2020 21:40

I’m 41+2 with my second baby (first baby born at 42 weeks having had my waters broken for me). Baby has been engaged and in a fabulous birthing position for ages apparently. My midwife can feel the head and my waters are bulging. Walking is actually at the point of feeling painful. I have to discuss induction on Tuesday - but I’m really keeping my fingers crossed as I’m planning for a home birth!

Good luck everyone!

Chocforthewin · 22/08/2020 21:58
