Anyone else playing the waiting game for baby

I'm 39 weeks today, so baby could come at any time.
I'm due to have a sweep next week, so I'm hoping that'll get baby moving!

Is anyone else playing the waiting game?

Hi everyone, hope you don’t mind me joining in. Sounds like we are all in the same boat! I am 40+2 today, had a sweep last Wednesday, had a show on Thursday and bad back ache so thought things were getting moving, then had a second sweep on Friday morning which MW couldn’t perform properly.. she said baby was 4/5th engaged, cervix was 2cm dilated and 3cm in length and also posterior. I am booked to be induced on the 3rd September.

When I asked how long it would take for cervix to shorten, to move anterior and baby to fully engage she said ‘how long is a piece of string?’ Haha. I think my bab is going to wait a while, maybe not be induced though! Good luck to you all xxx

mable88 · 24/08/2020 22:37

@TwinkleStars15 baby isn’t back to back, she’s apparently in the ideal delivery position, apparently. Although this doesn’t meant she wants to come out!!

Onto night three of early labour for me.... 😩 saw the midwife this morning who performed a successful sweep. Loads of contractions afterwards so went to the labour ward to be checked - only 2 dilated. Told to come back when I’m having 4 contractions within ten minutes. Was getting on for that earlier this evening but they’ve now slowed right sown... again... don’t know how much more of this I can take 😢

MizMoonshine · 25/08/2020 05:27

I hope it's all turned around @mable88 and you're currently sat holding a baby.

Due date has arrived for me. I started having contractions last night. They vanished as quickly as they appeared. I felt a pop just now and got excited that it might be my waters... I think it's just actually gas 😂

I am realising how lucky I was the first time around. Two days early just woke up with everything ready to go.

London91 · 25/08/2020 06:35

@MizMoonshine Thank you, fingers crossed bubba gets moving for you soon!!

@TwinkleStars15 Thank you! Good luck for Wednesday!

@A19C27 Welcome! Congratulations on no.4! If you're being seen face to face, surely there would be no increased risk involved to the midwife doing a sweep if you're already there anyway! All of the Covid stuff surrounding antenatal care is totally baffling to me! Pregnant women have definitely drawn the short straw when it comes to their care. Sad

How did you get on @mable88?

I’m STILL pregnant haha I was hopeful last night after the sweep, was definitely having tightenings, went to bed early thinking I’d be woken during the night (sadly only woken by DC1 not waters breaking...!) no pains this morning. Bloody show/discharge seems to have eased off too. :(

Surely one of us all have a baby soon...? Get the ball rolling..! X

TwinkleStars15 · 25/08/2020 08:28

I also thought last night might have been the night - I was getting cramps regularly for about an hour and then they tailed off. I think feeding DC1 to sleep at night triggers some strong Braxton Hicks. Second sweep tomorrow so hopefully there’s been some progression!

A19C27 · 25/08/2020 08:42

I thought last night was the night too 😑 had period pains all evening with tightenings. The pain was bearable so went to bed woke up at 2ish with tightenings thought here we go. Finally fell back asleep about 6 and now nothing - no baby and I’m now sat printing off A million pictures of shopkins for the kids to have a quiet morning of colouring.
I have a growth scan this afternoon so will be nice to check in on bump although would of liked to have done it face to face 😅
I feel like my body keeps testing the waters like are we ready and then it’s no ok let’s stop sooooo frustrating

Jomum2020 · 25/08/2020 10:25

There must be something in the air last night haha. What a shame it didn’t progress for anyone.
@TwinkleStars15 I’d imagine your feeding will be giving you BH. I remember feeling tightenings with DC1 when I was feeding him and wasn’t even pregnant!

@A19C27 that’ll be lovely to see your little one today! Even if it’s on a black and white screen. I like your style with the printing out colouring pictures, our weather is awful.
DS and I have been having a disco on my bed hahaha literally jumping up and down to little mix “power”. If this crazy dancing doesn’t induce labour nothing will.....

A19C27 · 25/08/2020 10:53

@Jomum2020 sounds fun hopefully you’ll dance the baby out 😆

MizMoonshine · 25/08/2020 14:27

New update: having fairly gentle contractions. Possibly leaking waters, possibly pissed my pants.
Fun times!

Jomum2020 · 25/08/2020 14:53

@MizMoonshine aaaaahhh good luck pishy pants 😂 haha.
How exciting!! Look forward to updates. Xx

London91 · 25/08/2020 14:55

@MizMoonshine oooo that sounds promising. Fingers crossed baby is on it's way.

Managed to have a sweep today will be having another over the weekend and induction is booked for a week's time.

@MizMoonshine hahaha good luck! Hope it is the start!
Had my scan they’re estimating a 7lb 12oz baby in there, so defo not small! - she needs to come out before she gets any bigger 🤣

MizMoonshine · 25/08/2020 15:06

Apparently I have not pissed my pants! Bloody show has shown up. Waters leaking. Contractions definitely happening. Baby is en route!

May you all piss your pants shortly too!

Jomum2020 · 25/08/2020 15:13

@A19C27 any chat of inducation or anything? That sounds a good size! Not too big not too small!

@MizMoonshine brilliant! Happy delivery.

@London91 that’s good Op! Any signs from your sweep? How did you find it? I have another in the morning x

TwinkleStars15 · 25/08/2020 15:36

@MizMoonshine I want to piss my pants too! Good luck Grin

A19C27 · 25/08/2020 16:03

@Jomum2020 no nothing I have midwife on Thursday but they’ll let me just go to 12 days over I think unless anything happens that they need to intervene with. So that takes me to the 8th - conveniently the date the kids go back to school 🤨 I’m going to ask really nicely if we can do it slightly earlier. Hopefully won’t need it though and she’ll just come soon.

Can we talk about lightening crotch - never experienced this with my previous pregnancies I feel like I’m being stabbed in the vagina from the inside it’s so painful anyone else?

London91 · 25/08/2020 17:10

@MizMoonshine Good luck! Update us when you're able to.

MizMoonshine · 25/08/2020 17:10

@A19C27 have you had it up the bum yet? That one is fun.

mable88 · 25/08/2020 17:52

@Jomum2020 @MizMoonshine still no baby! After another sleepless, contraction-filled night my husband called the labour ward for me when I appeared tearfully in the bedroom doorway. Went in at about 6am, they examined me to find out I am now 3/4cm dilated and then gave me a diamorphine injection and let me sleep until about 12.30. Re-examined me and no change, so I have been sent home again to take paracetamol and wait for active labour to start. Paracetamol 100% not touching the pain now, so I can only hope things ramp up again tonight and I will finally be there. Had no idea latent labour could take this long or be this painful Confused Baby is perfectly happy in there and worst case scenario is that I have an induction booked for Thursday morning - only two more sleepless nights to go!

mable88 · 25/08/2020 17:52

@MizMoonshine - good luck, sounds like you are nearly there! x

EdininiaMonsoon · 25/08/2020 19:12

Hi, I'm not quite waiting for baby yet (33+2), but I read something recently about how studies have shown breast stimulation is a pretty effective way to induce labour. I read through the transcript here the other day and made a mental note for myself for a few weeks' time: evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-using-breast-stimulation-to-naturally-induce-labor/

It does mention to be careful though, as it occasionally causes uterine hyperstimulation. Maybe one to discuss with a midwife?

Anyway, sorry to butt into your thread, but I hope this helps, and best of luck to you all x

A19C27 · 25/08/2020 21:00

@MizMoonshine I read your reply and thought what on earth then remembered what I said 🤣 made me laugh this evening.
No signs what so ever this evening I feel like I have a while to go.
Good luck @mable88 hope it happens this eve for you xx

TwinkleStars15 · 25/08/2020 22:43

Argh, 6th night of period pains. Not strong enough to be contractions, but strong enough to notice them Sad Second sweep tomorrow, I just hope all these pains have been doing something productive!
