Lettie365 · 02/08/2020 08:52

Morning, how is everyone feeling? Just woken after really vivid nightmares, I’d forgotten how pregnancy can do that!
Tiredness has started to kick in already! I’ve been yawning my head off, going to make sure I catch up on some zzzzz!
Plenty of pulling, twinges etc in lower abdomen. Especially if I stand up/roll over too fast I get some sharp pains.
Just can’t believe it happened the first month of trying. My best friend has been trying for her first 12months and I am so hoping we can share this journey together.

I’m after opinions Though please - What do you think I should do. Should I wait to tell her in the hope she’ll fall pregnant soon but which might upset her when she finds out that I’ve kept it from her or should I tell her now so she has more time to process it?

Thoughts please 🙏

Sexnotgender · 02/08/2020 08:55

Just can’t believe it happened the first month of trying.

We got lucky first time too!!

I felt a bit nauseous this morning because I was hungry.

Juicelucee · 02/08/2020 09:28

Morning everyone,

@Lettie365, I'm still in complete shock since finding out yesterday afternoon! Me and my OH weren't purposely TTC, but I had come off my pill at the beginning of this year as I had been on it for over ten years and we've been together for four years plus, so it was one of those 'if it happens, it happens' but I didn't think it would anytime soon! Shock

I don't really feel like I have many symptoms at the moment, just woken up this morning with a foggy head and feel a little more tired than usual.

Hope everyone else is feeling okay!

Also, can anyone advise me whether I should contact my GP tomorrow or just contact the midwifery team directly myself? I spent hours last night googling what the first steps are and I feel a little overwhelmed!

Happy Sunday guys x

mrsmummy1111 · 02/08/2020 09:29

@Lettie365 Oh congratulations!!!! Very exciting. I've been having the weirdest most vivid dreams as well - the other day I went back to a hotel with Michael McIntyre (who, may I add, is NOT my celeb crush) but then when he got undressed he had those really nasty baggy boxers on, you know the ones that are like crisp cotton shorts) and it grossed me out so much I couldn't go through with it. Was very happy to wake up to my husband next to me.

Anyway, I digress. The same thing happened to me when I fell pregnant with my first. My best friend had been trying for 18 months and we had both been open about it, she knew I was trying and she'd told all about blood tests she'd had and how to track my ovulation etc. She knew when I had my coil out and everything, so when I found out 3 weeks later I was pregnant it felt almost cruel to keep it from her. I waited until our early scan at 7 weeks to make sure things were ok, then I told her. But once I'd told her, that was it and we didn't discuss it anymore unless she brought it up. I think if you've been open with her about wanting to try for a baby then tell her, but sensitively. If she doesn't know you've been actively trying, I'd be tempted to wait a bit longer. Then just say you wanted to make sure everything was ok before telling her. Either way it's going to hurt if she's desperate for a baby, so try to minimise that hurt wherever possible. (But congrats and don't feel bad for being excited about your own exciting news!)

mrsmummy1111 · 02/08/2020 09:31

@Juicelucee Defo don't bother with the GP. They don't care and all they do is contact local midwifery team, which you can do yourself a lot quicker. If you know what hospital you want to go to just google "self refer xx hospital maternity" and go from there. I made the mistake of going via GP with my son and they were painfully slow. I self referred myself this time and got my scan and initial midwife appt within 3 hours

Juicelucee · 02/08/2020 09:41

@mrsmummy1111 ah thank you so much. That's really helpful, I had read that the GP's aren't that useful and they just refer you anyway! I'll get onto that tomorrow morning. Smile

I feel like I should be more excited than I feel but as this was unexpected, I keep going through a wave of emotions, panicking that I'm not going to be good enough to be a mum, as I have no clue what I'm doing! Blushanyone else feel/felt like this before? X

kwastell · 02/08/2020 09:41

@Lettie365 congratulations 🎉

As someone who's been trying for over 2 years and has watched a lot of friends and family get pregnant and have babies, the main thing is to recognise it might be painful for them and tell them you acknowledge that. They will want to be happy for you but are sad for themselves. I would ask them if they're ok for you to talk about it with them or not.

That said you still have a right to be happy about it. It just might have to be with other friends.

Lettie365 · 02/08/2020 09:42

@mrsmummy1111 thanks for your thoughts x. Doesn’t help that she’s a midwife 🤦🏼‍♀️ - at least she’s just been moved out of antenatal at our local hospital!
I love Michael McIntyre but not in that way😉😂
@Juicelucee congrats on your BFP
@Sexnotgender my husband said to me today - “you totally said it could take months, I feel like I’ve been missold!!” 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Lettie365 · 02/08/2020 09:44

@kwastell thanks for replying. Yes absolutely want to minimise the upset it might cause her. She’s in the process of buying a house which is stressful enough so I might wait for all that to settle down and complete (hopefully) and then reassess. With any luck when the stress of that is over she might fall pregnant anyway 🤞🤞🤞

Sexnotgender · 02/08/2020 09:46

Pee’d on my last stick just because I could 😂

@Sexnotgender I couldn't help myself from POAS either! I did what I hope will be my last test (will now be more restrained!) and had a mild panic for a light line, then realised it was the control and I have a dye stealer!

@Juicelucee different trusts have different procedures, if you cant find out online I'd ring you GP surgery, but you don't need an appointment, just tell them you are pregnant and ask how to contact the midwives.

@lettie365 you've been given good advice for telling your friend. There probably isn't a need to tell her straight away but if you are close you might want to tell her before 12 weeks but do it when it feels right for you. Make sure you tell her yourself so she doesn't find out second hand, and acknowledge you know it might be painful for her and you will take her lead if she wants a short break from you or not to talk about it.

eastcoastgirl · 02/08/2020 12:14

What is a dye stealer? The first test I did had a darker test line than control like yours does, but I've never heard this before?

2020wish · 02/08/2020 12:18

@eastcoastgirl a dye stealer is when the hcg levels are high enough for the test line to steal due from
The control line. Resulting is the test line being darker than the control line

Quietly dipping my toes in here. Had been expecting AF to arrive on cycle 6 of trying and caved mid morning, and was surprised to see 2 lines! I’m 41, will be DC 5 for me but first with DP, who I met after moving to Europe last year. In absolute shock and he’s out all day so can’t let him know until tonight. Excited and terrified in equal parts, terrified both in case this isn’t a sticky beam and also the fact of doing the pregnancy thing in a different country and with a partner who only speaks French....
This was our 6th cycle of trying but we definitely made more of an effort this time.

My oldest would be 17 when this one is due (edd 07.04.2021), with my youngest who is currently 4 but will be 5 by then. I’d been single since just after she was conceived so even meeting DP last year was a surprise to me 😁

Fingers crossed to all

lastditchattempt20 · 02/08/2020 13:05

Fell into POAS rabbit hole this morning. IC strips not showing much change so got a FRER and saw my dye stealer! Also got a CB with weeks just out of curiosity- luckily result is accurate for me 👍 Might use other one next week.

Hi all! I caved and tested early today with a cheap savers test! Period is due Tuesday or Wednesday next week so think I’m about 12/13dpo going of CM. It’s definitely a line and I’m so excited! This is baby #3 for us! Just praying AF doesn’t show now! Would be due 13/4/21 my husbands birthday! Haha

Hi all, transferring here from my supportive TTC thread. Got my BFP this morning, AF was due yesterday so really early days at the moment. It's mine and DH's first baby and our 2nd cycle TTC, so it's all happening a bit quick. Got constant gentle cramping at the moment and have had a metallic taste in my mouth for a few days..

It's good to see some familiar faces. How are you getting on @Lettie365 ? Is @FoxtrotOscarPoppet on here too?

@2020wish thank you! Does that mean I'm very pregnant then? 😂

Lettie365 · 02/08/2020 14:41

Hi @BuckleUp congrats on your BFP. That’s a super strong line Smile x

2020wish · 02/08/2020 17:04
