Hello Liissaa and everyone, I am 43 and found out last week that I am expecting a baby. I had a MMC last year at 16 weeks and was hoping to get pregnant again quickly afterwards but it took us several months, in fact it’s only after I accepted the fact that it might not happen that it did Smile. The gynaecologist and midwives that looked after me after my MC all told me that they saw «older» pregnant ladies all the time nowadays. It’s still very early days for me but it still fills me with hope. Good luck to all Wink

Liissaa · 18/07/2020 09:26

Hi @FleurDeLotus thank you for this message. Congratulations on your pregnancy and sending love to you. I hope everyone in this thread reads your message. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. Putting pressure on myself, worrying about time running out definitely hasn’t worked in my favour. I wonder if being a little older means it takes a little longer to get over these things. Your message had really made me feel better. Thank you xx

@Liissaa..my head is all over had my hcg last monday 80 today 81...back again in 48 hours for more bloods and scan so.hope its not ectopic definitely not viable and i definitely passed the sac last Sunday
Scared at the minute. Xx

Liissaa · 20/07/2020 21:20

@Oldmamabear43 I so hope it’s not. I’m not surprised you are scared, you must be so confused. I miscarried at 12 weeks exactly although my pregnancy hadn’t progressed further than about 6 weeks so it took my body 6 full weeks to realise my pregnancy wasn’t viable and a further 11 weeks after miscarrying for my hcg to be low enough to have a period. I think it’s because I had a small piece of retained tissue, only about 2cm and apparently it can give off some hcg. Maybe it could be something like that? I’ve got everything crossed that it’s not ectopic. Sending loads of love xx

OP posts:
FleurDeLotus · 20/07/2020 22:25

@Oldmamabear43, keeping my fingers crossed. I am pretty sure there are plenty of reasons why your Hcg might still be a bit high. For your peace of mind, could you possibly ask for a scan tomorrow? it would be quicker than blood tests and would definitely rule out an ectopic. Thinking of you x

Oldmamabear43 · 20/07/2020 23:16

@Liissaa @FleurDeLotus
Thanks ladies when i had my.internal scan last week they didnt see a sac or anything so classed it as complete miscarriage as i defintely passed something.i had started with brown discharge then bleeding and what looked like stringy tissue which i thought was the sac My hcg was 80 which was very low as i should have been just 6 weeks. I had my bloods again today and expected my hcg to be low so we could think about ttc again with me knocking on 44. Gutted when they said 81. They said it could be tissue outside thd womb. Im still having brown discharge just darker (tmi sorry) . I will ring in the morning to see if they can get me in. At the moment partners cant come in either which doesn't help. Worried now my chances of another little baby are going to be next to zero.:-(
@fleur..its good to have some positive news it keeps the flicker of hope burning in our older than the average mum years! I have everything crossed for you we need good news Smile
@,liisssa oh no that must have been.awful for you :-( how are you on your ttc journey now.? I do believe we should carry on trying i would rather try and experience the pain of mc than living with the regret of never trying when we hit menopause.
Its so good having people to talk to on here as much as i love my fiance he just doesnt know how to act around me when i mention it. Thats men for you! Xx

Liissaa · 20/07/2020 23:33

@Oldmamabear43 I hope they can get to the bottom of it as soon as possible for you. It is great to be able to talk with other people Who understand about this stuff. Like you, my fiancé, who is amazing, just doesn’t really know what to say. I’m carrying on, trying to eat right etc. I just believe it will happen. I know I can get pregnant so I believe I can get pregnant again. Keep me updated with how things go. Sending love Xx

@Liissaa i will keep you updated. Yes you will get pregnant positive thoughts creative positive actions. 🙂I used the one step ovulation strips from CD10 onwards the last two times and knew when i hit my LH surge ..and both times i conceived ( albeit not positive outcomes)but before using them i must have been timing it wrong we were trying for ages.
Last week when they thought complete miscarriage the EPU told me i needed to see GP to get 5mg folic acid tablets and told me to continue taking the pregnacare vitamins whilst ttc and next time when i first get a positive test to start taking two asprin a day as this helps with implantation. Keep the faith liissaa we will get there. 🙂 xx

Hi I had DS at 43 after 3 miscarriages. I'd given up to be honest. And despite what the consultant wanted I refused a scheduled induction at 40 weeks and DS ended up being born on his due date without any intervention.

And the midwives also let me into the natural birthing suite. I asked when I went to hospital in full labour - they asked me what the consultant said, I was honest and said not keen and they had a chat with the senior midwife who agreed based on my uneventful pregnancy and good health. Tbh I got the sense they thought it was daft simply excluding on age as it really depends on your history and how you are presenting.

Liissaa · 21/07/2020 08:51

@Oldmamabear43 it’s just catching a good egg! At our age they aren’t all good ones but if we stick with it, a healthy egg will come along and we will get there. Interesting about the aspirin! I’m taking my prenatals and some dha too for egg health. Eating loads of fruit and veg, lentils etc to improve egg quality too. Hoping one day it will pay off. Trying to drop some weight too! Xx
@pigoons congratulations! Seems it’s pretty normal for over 40s these days! Thanks for sharing your experience xx

MumWithCurls · 21/07/2020 11:23

I know there's lots of people already saying that it's definitely possible but thought I'd add that one of my friends had her second baby recently and she was aged 47. She'd had problems conceiving for years but had a healthy pregnancy. Good luck everyone!

FleurDeLotus · 21/07/2020 11:50

@pigoons, thank you for your experience, it really makes me hope Smile
@Oldmamabear43, that is very interesting regarding the aspirin, after my MMC, the dr told me that taking aspirin would help too, to insure the placenta was properly bound to the uterus but he told me to start taking it a bit later in the pregnancy... I think I’m going to call the midwives to know for sure.
@Liissaa, you know, that is what I told myself, I’ll do everything I can so that I can’t regret not having done my best, as you said it’s all down to 1 good egg. It is strange, I was trying to eat as healthy as possible and do my best but it is only after I «broke down» and admitted out loud that I had not really gone over the MC (unlike what I was trying to convince myself) and that I had no «real» power on getting pregnant again one day (accepting that it may not happen) that we conceived. Our mind is so powerful and I think it plays an important role alongside our physical well
being. I so hope for good outcomes for all of us, it’s nice to be able to share what we are going through xx

FleurDeLotus · 21/07/2020 11:52

Thank you @MumWithCurls Smile

Liissaa · 21/07/2020 12:43

@MumWithCurls wow! How amazing! That’s amazing!
@FleurDeLotus that’s so true. The mind is so powerful. I don’t think I’ll ever fully get over what happened. I just hope that we are all lucky! When I saw my midwife before my mc, she couldn’t have cared less how old I was. Xx
