Evening ladies!

Sorry for going AWOL for the last few weeks. My anxiety got pretty bad, but I'm starting to get on top of it now. I'm 35+3 today, so it's getting quite close to the big day! I have a bit of a better idea of what's going to happen with labour, having met with the anaesthetic team (think it was an obstetric anaesthetist and cardiology anaesthetist) it's been decided that an epidural is the best way of reducing stress on my heart so I can try to labour, and that it should be sited early on (before going into established labour ideally). Next step is my 36 week scan and consultant appointment, then we will decide on whether an induction is sensible due to baby's size or my health conditions.

I hope everyone has been doing ok x

MrsR16 · 26/10/2019 18:31

@PippaPug it sure is magical when you can see these little humans that you've grown! I'm doing ok, had a wonderful (albeit brief) visit to London - DH thoroughly enjoyed himself and I just love the theatre anyway 😊 baby loved it too - it was bopping away the entire way through!

@BostonFern sorry to hear you've been having a really rough time! However it is awesome that you're coming out the other side with positivity 😊 that's no mean feat!

Fivebyfive2 · 26/10/2019 19:13

Ladies, had to post this! My brother just felt my bump and said 'that feels really weird, don't you think it's weird'?! I was like, errrr I'm kind of used to it now 😂

@Bostonfern, good to hear from you, sounds like you and the medical team have a good plan which is always reassuring xxx

MrsEG · 26/10/2019 20:41

@Fivebyfive2 I can’t bear the news anymore it just makes me so mad!! Hope you’ve had a fun day with your errands :)

@PippaPug Same, can’t wait to get cracking on the nursery!! I bet it’ll be tough being on your feet, make sure you go off and mat leave and get those feet up as soon as you need to! I’m finishing at Christmas too, 18th December I’ll be done. I have a bit of flexibility to work a week or so at home in Jan if I want to, but the more I think about it the more I don’t want to haha!

@ELW85 Hope you’re having a fab time in London!

@purplefig The idea women would have to live off credit cards makes me furious! I was actually chatting to a friend at the party today about mat leave; she fell pregnant by accident 5 years ago and was about 8 weeks when she found out. She had no savings, and then had 7 months to get ready for mat leave. She said it was hell - SMP is just so poor, how on earth anyone is supposed to live off it is beyond me!

@BostonFern Sounds like you’re being very well looked after lovely, and there’s a good plan in place! Hope all is well with the anxiety - is the midwife recommending anything for that to help too?

Had fun at the party! Here’s bump as a pumpkin! I didn’t actually take my phone with me so only have a few pics my sister took! It was fun but kinda exhausting, there were 3 1-year olds there and then 4 kids aged between 3-5. Absolute chaos, essentially haha! The older ones were asking me how the babies get out of my belly 🙈 ‘Um, ask your mother!’

Thanks @MrsR16 @Fivebyfive2 @MrsEG I've been really lucky that we have a midwife who specialises in mental health, so I've met with her to talk about my anxiety, and we're putting a plan together that can be used during labour too.

@MrsEG that's a brilliant bump photo! Good answer to the older kids question too! 😂

Larrydavid · 27/10/2019 08:17

@MrsEG thanks for the tips - will definitely stock up on some jelly beans! Eating does help. I'm seeing a midwife in a week so I'll double check with her that everything is cool. No I'm not a singer, I'm a producer. I film things mostly, or point at things for other people to film (which is what I did on Friday because I was too tired to carry a camera all day!) your pumpkin bump is adorable! You look great!

@Fivebyfive2 we went to see hot chip! It was so so good, I got it as a pressie for my boyfriend after we got engaged (a got him a little gift hamper of things he loved). We saw them at Glastonbury earlier this year and they were so great live that we had to see them again! Literally the first music gig I've ever been to completely sober but was so much fun. Your evening in sounds perfect too - rib and chips 😋

@PippaPug What you're describing with the dizziness is exactly what I've been getting. Days where I'm working (bending down to get things etc) it's so much worse. Yesterday I spent most of the day resting and it only happened a couple of times. I think I'll get the midwife to double check. Also, I think I'd not want to know the gender too - what a lovely surprise you'll have! And as for the gig - someone did ask if I was pregnant when I ordered a soft drink but I laughed it off. I think he was far too drunk to even remember he'd asked!

@ELW85 I took a proper day off yesterday and definitely felt better for it! I'm trying so hard to reign work in a bit but it's tricky as I run my own business so it can feel like it never stops. But I'm being much stricter with my weekends and evenings. You're 19weeks already! Feels like only yesterday you sent me some ovulation strips and a pregnancy test! (That pregnancy test was the one I chucked in my bag and took to japan and found out on 🙌🏼)

@purplefig haha that Hoover is away! I'm very happy to pass that task over to my partner! Thanks for the tips on maternity pay. I'll look into it in the next month or two if everything goes well with the little bean.

@BostonFern sorry to hear about your anxiety- it sounds like you're forming a solid plan and are being well looked after. Take care of yourself!

I have my early scan next week - I'm super nervous about it and will be so relieved if it goes well (and then no doubt be onto the next worry!). Planning on making a roast dinner today, catching up on Saturday night tv and doing very little else! Hope you all have relaxing Sunday's planned.

LindyMoe · 27/10/2019 10:06

Hi everyone, sorry I've been quiet for a while.
Don't know if this makes me a bad person but has anyone experienced any gender dissappointment?

TrashKitten10 · 27/10/2019 13:43

Induction update: Yesterday was supposed to be the day and the hospital were supposed to ring by 12. They didn't so I called and got a 'no room, we will ring by 4' response. Nobody phoned by four so I rang again and got the reply 'no room, we will call by 8'. DH got a bit mardy by this point as they'd not phoned me at all themselves, I was getting stressed keep calling and we were both just waiting to go in. They did phone back and asked me to come in for 6pm, hurrah! Got me straight in and monitored me but after four hours of waiting they said that they didn't have room after all to get me started with the induction and I could stay overnight with no guarantee of what would happen the next day or I could go home again. I shed a few tears at this point as it was such an anticlimax and I was so tired from the constant excitement and disappointment. The midwife was very sympathetic and said to ring back first thing in the morning and thankfully this time they did have room. So I'm now in my cubicle, pessary inserted and bouncing on a ball. Fingers crossed it's plain sailing from here :)

@MrsH497 Your GP sounds lovely :) hopefully at 10/11 weeks you'll soon be coming to the end of it. Look after yourself :)

@MrsEG Thanks lovely ☺️ regarding your dressing gown/hoodie, I've so far found the wards to be very warm so you may want something quite light. Your PGP sounds miserable and how rubbish they have such a long waiting list, hope you manage to get some relief even if you have to go privately. You look great as a pumpkin by the way.

@LokiCat Thank you :) I think we are sometimes our own worst enemies and forget how incredible it is to be growing a full human. My fan hasn't come out yet but I think DH will be manning that on the delivery suite, nothing worse than being hot and bothered is there! How are you getting on?

@Crossfitgirl Olivia is gorgeous! Can't believe it's been ten weeks already! Hope you're getting on okay :)

@PippaPug So pleased your scan went well!

Pop is obviously a bit more prudish than their brother or sister! It's great your hospital is so hot on things, you're obviously in the right place

@purplefig Yes we loved the course and hoping I can utilise all the strategies. I might have to have a rewatch of the videos today while I'm bouncing on my ball ☺️

@BostonFern Great to see you back again and sorry to hear you've been suffering with anxiety. Great that the team looking after you have a plan in place and you're getting close!

MrsR16 · 27/10/2019 14:06

@TrashKitten10 oh goodness you sound as though you're having a right time of it! I'm glad it's all getting sorted now though - it won't be long before you meet your baby! Good luck to you, sweetheart, and keep us updated as and when (or if!) you can xxx

ELW85 · 27/10/2019 14:14

Afternoon all!

We’re on the train back from London and Sir Ian. I actually bumped into him at the bottom of the stairs on the intermission. All of my eloquence and confidence went out of the window and all I could manage was a sharp intake of breath 😂
He was lovely though and walked around the entire audience for a quick ‘hello’ too.

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend?

@MrsEG - you guys look fantastic! Brilliant response to the ‘where do babies come from’ question 😂

@purplefig - books and canine cuddles sound wonderful! Were you reading your book club stuff or something of your own choosing?

@Larrydavid - I’m so pleased you’re feeling a bit better! It’s lovely that the test is sent gave you the good news; really can’t say how happy I am for you 😊

@TrashKitten10 - how exciting! How are you feeling? I hope you’re doing well!

@BostonFern - sorry to hear you’ve been having a rough time but it’s so exciting that you’re getting closer to meeting the little one and it sounds like you’ve got great support in place.

Can’t believe how quickly this weekend has flown over. Absolutely gutted.
I’m sure I felt a few movements whilst some Shakespeare was being bellowed out last night. Maybe the Boy wants to tread the boards!

@BostonFern lovely to hear from you though sorry to hear what you've been going through. Sounds like there's a bit of a plan in place now at least. Not long until week 36 scan!

@MrsEG ahhhh you look amazing!!! Sounds fun but full on. Did you sleep well afterwards?! Next year you'll have your own two terrors adding to the mayhem (and looking ridiculously cute in those advanced purchased Halloween costumes 👻). Yeah stat mat pay is pretty crap and it's especially poor it's not even being given on time! Sounds tough going for your friend.

@Larrydavid glad to hear it 😅 yes so with mat allowance you can apply from 26 weeks so plenty of time to research. Hopefully they'll have sorted the delays out by the time you apply! Oooo so exciting about your early scan - how many weeks will you be?

@LindyMoe from what I've heard it's quite common so lots of resources for getting your head around it on mumsnet etc. Something that might help is analysing your own reasons for disappointment- you might find some of them are based on gender stereotypes (I wanted to teach my son to play football / I wanted to buy cute dresses for my daughter) and releasing them might help. As ultimately we're all unique individuals and are bits and pieces are only a small part of us.

@TrashKitten10 that sounds like a frustrating start but glad to hear you're in. Keep bouncing and keep us posted!! Thinking of you!! ❤️

@ELW85 your breathing at Sir Ian story made me chortle 🤣❤️ glad you had a fab time and your little thespian sounds inspired! I'm reading for my 2nd book club (😳 that's going to have to go come Feb I'm sure!!) - Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca. SO GOOD.

I've had a great weekend! Yesterday we sorted loads around the house, then today we've been into town to start on Christmas shopping and pick up our secondhand changing table. I'll post a pic, think it looks quite nifty with our adorable new changing mat etc. God I'm such a sap these days.

Ok boring but pressing question for you all: what car seat are you getting? We went into Halfords today and I came out more confused 🤷🏼‍♀️!! We were interested in the Joie FX but a) it has no handle b) it's only iso Fix when forward facing.

At a bit of a loss what to do as all the ones I saw with carrier handles are only suitable up to 12 months. And that just seems a bit wasteful given they can't be reused? How essential is a handle?! X

MrsEG · 27/10/2019 17:52

@BostonFern Such great news your midwife is on it all with the mental health team! Great to hear. Not long to go now! I hope you’re able to just enjoy these last few weeks :)

@Larrydavid Oh fun, my BIL is a producer! He mostly films commercials/ads though. But fun for us when they use all new stuff on set that then can’t be sold - I’ve had some serious freebies sent my way over the years!! Shame he can’t be in film/fashion though so I could be nabbing clothes rather than BBQs... Yeah defo mention it to the midwife but try and keep snacking for now and try not to overdo it. The earlier weeks are honestly so rough!

@LindyMoe You’re not a bad person for having any gender disappointment I can assure you. As @purplefig says it’s a very real thing, but often comes from a stereotype or even just a long held wish for one or the other. I have to admit, knowing we’re having two boys I do sometimes sit and think ‘I’ll never know what my daughter may have been like’ (there’s no way we’ll try for more with the issues etc we have) but it quickly passes. I think however if I’d been dead set on a daughter, it could mess with my head a bit. Try and focus on the fact your baby is healthy, and will be their own fabulous little human.

@TrashKitten10 Oh man what a Pallava! Glad you’re in now but I hope it goes nice and quickly for you. Good point, the wards are so warm. When I was in for a day-case op I took slippers and a dressing gown and they never left my bag! Perhaps the fan is the way to go :)

@ELW85 Glad you had a fab weekend, you could have a little thespian in there!!

@purplefig I slept terribly!! Sods bloody law, you’d think a cracking nights sleep after all the fun and the extra hour would be a shoe in. PGP had other ideas!
Car seats - so, I’ve done my extensive research here! We’re going for the ones with handles, that we’ll have to replace after a year. I honestly agonised over it but for DH he said it was a no-brainer (we hope to gift them to my sis with her second or friends, so they don’t go to waste). Reasons we want handles:
If they fall asleep in the car I don’t want to have to faff getting two babies out of them, back in to a double pram, just to get them in to the house. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
Very handy when visiting family - can just grab them both and carry in to the house and not bother with the pram at all
Easier for attending play groups etc - as above, leave the pram in the car and just carry them in
We’re going for car seats with a lie-flat option so when they do fall asleep in them I can let them stretch out.
FYI - I am sure there are just as many great reasons to get a 0-4years car seat that stays in your car too, but my research all pointed me to handles in the end. Especially with two of them to navigate around!

Oh man, is this extra hour messing with anyone else?! I’ve had to have a long nap to get me through to dinner! Pelvic pain is dreadful today, I woke 3 time’s in the night and really struggled with the car. We’ve had a busy day though; picked up two nearly-new Moses baskets and a baby backpack/carrier for next to nothing on a local twin group. Still not sure where babies will nap in the day but at least we have them now! Then got the nursery painted. Pausing for dinner before we get the last coat on. It’s a very boring white so feels totally thankless when all you’re doing is freshening up the walls but at least then we can start building furniture and adding all the pics etc!

Happy Sunday folks and here’s hoping everyone has a fab week ahead x

Anny27 · 27/10/2019 18:44

Hi ladies, sorry for the radio silence but we didnt have very positive news at our scan last week :( i am supposed to be 9 weeks (i know my dates from bbt tracking, LH tests etc etc) but baby is only measurring 6 weeks and no heartbeat:(

They have advised me to come back in 1 to 2 weeks to check whether baby has grown and whether its that my dates were wrong but i am pretty sure it is bad news. Will lrr you know the outcome in a few weeks ❤

PippaPug · 27/10/2019 19:22

@ELW85 - how are you doing? At 19 weeks I still hadn’t felt anything and just gone 20 I started too...they are more active in the evenings when I’m still! Did you have a good weekend?

@purplefig - Thank you I will PM you but I have just sat down all weekend!

Re Car seats - we have decided to go for the Joie 360 spin from birth - 4 years.
We loved it as you can rear face till four which we loved, it’s but it doesn’t have a carrier handle - I find one of them quite heavy and bulky to carry let alone two (plus I have a weaker shoulder) and I don’t like the idea of them being in the car seat too long due to breathing problems etc esp when they are small.

@BostonFern - sorry to hear your having a rough time of it, but pleased you have a plan and I hope it makes you feel more at ease.

@MrsR16 - glad baby loved it and was dancing away, how wonderful for you!

@MrsEG - Fab Halloween costume! Hope you and the babies enjoyed it! I think by Christmas we will both be ready to put our feet up and rest, it’s going to whizz round!

@Larrydavid
My dizziness did pass but it was a while and I ended up having to get DH to pick anything up from the floor, defo get the midwife to check it....just feels horrendous at the time doesn’t it? Hope he doesn’t remember asking you if you were pregnant, so awkward when people ask!

@LindyMoe - I personally haven’t as I haven’t found out, but was slightly concerned I would which was. A factor in not finding out and trying to bond with little ones....but just remember that if you had a girl they may not like to wear dresses and paint nails and boys may not play football etc - is it worth speaking to your midwife about?

@TrashKitten10 - ohhh how exciting, good luck! I hope it all goes well and the way you want it 💐 I’m really happy with the hospital now I know it’s a fetal medicine unit (which sounds silly but I just feel safer!)

Can’t believe how quickly the weekend went! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and getting ready for the week ahead ☺️

PippaPug · 27/10/2019 19:22

@Anny27 - so sorry lovely I didn’t see your message, nothing I can say but 💐💐💐

LindyMoe · 27/10/2019 19:53

Thanks for the advice everyone. Not sure I want to tell the midwife, I'm worried they will give me that look!
It's literally that all around me my friends are having girls and all saying girls are best, so I feel awful. To be fair I havent told this group im pregnant, maybe I should to get them to be more sympathetic?

purplefig · 27/10/2019 19:55

@Anny27 I'm so, so sorry to read that. Huge great big hugs lady 💐❤️

ELW85 · 27/10/2019 19:57

Evening all!

@purplefig - wow, look at that changing table; I love it!
I seriously must have looked like an absolute idiot to him, but at least it was a genuine reaction 😂
Oh I’ve got Rebecca to read!! It’s one of those things where I bought an armful of classics/things I’ve been meaning to read and just haven’t gotten round to reading them all. So shameful! I’m pleased you’re enjoying it; bodes well 😊

We got an iso fix base with the maxi-cosi cabrio-fix as part of the Ocarro bundle so I’ve not got a clue about it! I’m going to get DH to educate me.

@MrsEG - really sorry to hear you’re in pain; did you take a look at any physios? You’ve done loads this weekend, so I’m not surprised you’re knackered! I hope you’re having a lovely relaxing evening once the last coat is done!

@Anny27 - I’m so, so sorry to hear that.
I really hope you’re are ok as you can be, and I’ll keep absolutely everything crossed for you.

ELW85 · 27/10/2019 20:00

@PippaPug - cross post! I’m feeling pretty good thank you 😊 how are you?
I’ve definitely had growing pains in the past couple of days and I think I’m feeling the baby more and more.
When/how did you know you were definitely feeling movement?
I know that sounds stupid but I’m feeling loads of muscle twinges that I’m assuming is the baby, but I always wonder if it definitely is him, if you know what I mean?

MrsEG · 27/10/2019 20:48

@Anny27 I am so so sorry to hear this. I’ve been there and I know it’s hell. If you can, push for the scan in a week rather than 2. I really felt I was left to wait needlessly. Lots of love to you XX

@PippaPug I know, I feel like as soon as Halloween is done it’s just the countdown to Christmas!

@LindyMoe All my friends have girls - last year three of them did within 3 months of each other. They’ll all say girls are fabulous as that’s what they know! I’m expecting twin boys, and have chatted to people at work etc about it and they all tell me boys are absolutely fabulous. Very squishy, loving Mamas boys!

@ELW85 I’ve got a physio appt Tuesday morning booked in! It’s an initial assessment but with a pregnancy specialist. I’m hoping she’ll work some miracles! Movements - up to about 20 weeks I thought I was feeling them but could never tell if it was them or something else - I was never totally sure. But now it’s just so obvious and so strong - it really is ‘kicks’ and movement now. You really just have to wait for them to grow that tiny bit bigger and stronger and honestly in a week or two you’ll be in no doubt about it!

OP posts:
Anny27 · 27/10/2019 20:55

Thanks everybody ❤ @ELW85 @PippaPug @purplefig

@MrsEG was it a positive or negative outcome for you? Yep its the waiting thats the worst as dont want to feel too upset if all is okay but also dont want to carry on as normal with this lingering! Xx

LindyMoe · 27/10/2019 21:17

Thank you @MrsEG!!

Tropicana1 · 27/10/2019 21:34

@MrsEG love the bump-pumpkins! Bumpkins? 😂

@TrashKitten10 good luck with the induction and labour!

@purplefig our car seat is a cybex that's only up to 12 months but the isofix base is compatible with the next age range of car seat as well so that will save some of the expense, whereas some of them I think the base is only compatible with the small car seat so you have to buy the whole kit again. Ours came as a bundle though with our pram (mamas and papas ocarro)

@Anny27 so sorry to hear your scan wasn't positive, keeping my fingers crossed it's just a case of different dates and your little bean keeps growing. I'm sure the next few weeks waiting will be hell, we're all here if you need

BostonFern · 28/10/2019 08:08

Thanks @Larrydavid @TrashKitten10 @ELW85 @purplefig @MrsEG @PippaPug

Good luck for your scan this week @Larrydavid

@TrashKitten10 I can't believe you're about to meet your baby! I hope the induction is going well so far x

@ELW85 sounds like you had a lovely day yesterday!

@purplefig that's a lovely changing table! Re car seats we have a joie I-level, the in-car reclining function is really useful for us due to the angle of the car seats and how iso-fix bases work with them. I think for the car seat and iso-fix base together it was pretty good value for an I-size seat (£200 from Halfords).

@MrsEG I'm with you on the clock changes! Saw 2am twice thanks to my pea sized bladder too 😂 never have I been so disappointed that the clocks went back! Sounds like you've been extremely productive though!

@Anny27 sorry to hear your news, be kind to yourself in the next couple of weeks.

Hope everyone has a good day today. I've got DP home with me this week, so I'm looking forward to a little trip out with him today (although I'm taking him for a flu jab first-figured there's no point in me getting it if he's going to potentially get it at work, he'd be gutted if he was really with flu ill when baby arrived!).

purplefig · 28/10/2019 09:04

@PippaPug @MrsEG @ELW85 @Tropicana1 @BostonFern thanks everyone for your really helpful replies - I really can see the argument for both! I'm going to spend a bit of time thinking about our lifestyle...just hard trying to work out what life with a newborn will look like. I'm leaning towards the 0-4 ones as we've only got one car, live a 2 mins walk from town / dog walks etc.

@MrsEG hows your pelvic pain today? your Sunday sounds very productive - though I'm not surprised you're tired after it all + the party!! Your nursery is going to look beauts 👌🏼 we've got boring white walls too as I'm addicted to them, but I think they're the best for making art pop. What kind of changing bag have you gone for? I'm thinking of a backpack one for ease, as the one downside with the out n about is not much storage. (Oh and in-laws have said they'll get us the pram 🙌🏻 )

@LindyMoe what do you mean by get them to be more sympathetic? As in stop saying girls are the best etc.? To be honest, I think that's a bit of a strange attitude anyway, so just try and let it wash over you and focus on the fact you're growing an amazing healthy human being whose going to be his own unique person 🌟

@ELW85 Cheers - I'm totally chuffed with it and it was only £15! No your reaction was the best 🤣!! To my greatest shame I only read by first Daphne du Maurier a few years ago, which is mad given they're set where I live. Might be part of why I'm so into them though! Are you reading anything engrossing atm? Re: movements I had loads of "is it them?!" Moments, but nothing definitive until 20+5 (I know the exact date as we had friends over watching a film and it was those unmistakable bubbles everyone talks about). Now (25 weeks!! 🙀) they're like proper little kicks - I can even see them move now, it's wild.

@BostonFern enjoy having DP home this week - fingers crossed the flu jab is over quick and painlessly 😅

Happy Monday everyone! I'm feeling great after a simultaneously productive but chilled weekend. We've been out of county so much this year, it's nice to just stay home tbh. Luckily that's all our trips done now for the foreseeable. Looking forward to getting into nesting mode! Yesterday we set up the changing table and washed all the baby clothes we've got so far, amazing how much more real that made it feel. Have a great day all! X
