Hi all! No work this week, so enjoying a lazy day. We might attempt to see Joker today or tomorrow as it was sold out at the weekend! Will attach a pic of the wardrobe we built yesterday and if we build the cot then I'll update 🙂

@MrsEG, so sorry to hear you've been feeling bad, I hope you find something to help with the pain and to get to sleep! Xx

@PippaPug, sounds like you're getting well organised! Xx

@ELW85, dh comes to the scans but not the mw appointments. Also, because I often have to wait to see a consultant after a scan, sometimes if there's a long wait he just comes to the scan part then goes back to work. My dad then picks me up when I'm done. It's just whatever works for you guys I think xxx

@purplefig, happy ebay shopping 😀

Fivebyfive2 · 07/10/2019 11:02

Wardrobe and our cat on the bouncy chair... He was swiftly moved along!! 😂

@ELW85 - I go to all the hospital/midwife appointments and DH came to the 12 week scan, will come to the 20 weeks one and maybe one other - however it’s getting time off work which is tricky! My mum is desperate to come to a scan as well and as I’m going to be having more then average I thought she can come Smile

@MrsEG - ah fair enough, take it easy though! Does a hot water bottle or heat patch help?
We went for Joie signature 360 spin, we won’t be attaching the car seats to the buggy and I find carrying one baby in a car seat extremely heavy for me let alone two!
Pram - we will go for the luxury mountain buggy, our local shop has offered us to price match it and then give us 10% twin discount as well, so very happy!

@purplefig - Yes I thought they were unisex and my friend queried if I would put the babies in them if they were boys? And I couldn’t see the problem!
I class al of these as vests (sleeveless, short sleeves, long sleeves)

www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-baby-pima-cotton-short-sleeve-bodysuit-pack-of-3-white/p3160401

But you can get long sleeved vests:
www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-baby-pima-cotton-long-sleeve-bodysuit-pack-of-3-white/p3164283

And sleeveless vests:
www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-baby-pima-cotton-sleeveless-bodysuit-pack-of-3-white/p3164278

Personally I’m not a fan of sleeveless vests (no reason just fussy!) and long sleeved vests are lovely but sometimes I feel they bunch up round their arms when your putting a baby grow one and it’s harder when they are newborns to unbunch them!

Baby grows - are what I class as onesies - so all in ones with poppers (sometimes they have zips) down the middle.

Hope that helps a little?! (Or has it made you more confused?!)

MrsEG · 07/10/2019 12:00

@purplefig Ha I know!! I’ll need to grow some gills! I start aquanatal this week too though so another blissful hour in the water!

@Fivebyfive2 Thank you lovely! Wardrobe looks fabulous, is that the Ikea one?

@PippaPug ah fabulous! They were both on our list!! We only changed car seats as I will need to be taking them in and out of the car loads so needed the handle. The Mountain Buggy is fabulous too! Bet it feels so exciting having big things bought!!

OP posts:
Fivebyfive2 · 07/10/2019 12:15

@MrsEG, it is yes! Was surprised how easy it went up, it gives me hope for when we attempt the cot bed as that's also an IKEA one. Glad you're enjoying the time in the water 🙂 @purplefig, I laughed out loud at your 'water based mamal' comment! Xx

I have my aqua yoga tonight, but I'm thinking when this block runs out I might sack it off and just go normal swimming, maybe do some of the moves I learned in between normal laps. I do enjoy it, but it's quite expensive and the time is a bit awkward. Plus, dh has been worrying he is 'getting chubby' so I said maybe we can do swimming together? I think he looks fine, but would be nice to do something like that together!

purplefig · 07/10/2019 12:49

@Fivebyfive2 love the audacity of cats - mine would be exactly the same and probably assume it was bought for him 🤣 genuinely not sure where I'll put the baby downstairs, as the cat will want in everything 😬. Normal swimming sounds good - I'd love to go more regularly, but it's over £7 a session here! Also the faff of having to sort my hair puts me off...so lazy I know 😳

@MrsEG love it 🐟🐬🐠 come November you can taken up residence in the tub full time.

@PippaPug haha thanks...it WILL be super helpful once I've familiarised myself with all the terms!! what will yours be sleeping in under gowns / sleeping bags? I think it's mad someone would query if nightgowns are appropriate for boys....not finding out the sex has really opened my eyes to how gendered everything seems to be.

Well after a very quiet day yesterday, my womb resident is making me very away of their presence today! Hi friend!! 👋🏼

PippaPug · 07/10/2019 13:34

@MrsEG - We won’t be taking them out a lot as DH will need the car (only have one car between us) and then at the weekend we will use the car and therefore car seat so but will take them out as don’t want them in car seats for too long as when we visit people most family are over 30 mins away.

@purplefig - not sure about what we will do in hospital as it’s always so hot - but at home they will be in the short sleeved baby vests and a little nightgown - we will then swaddle them most likely.
I will be going to grow bags ASAP but a lot of the for newborns are sorted on weights and I’m guessing these two will be too small for them so will be buying swaddles and I have found majority of babies like being swaddled as they used to little space by the time they are born (of course some babies hate it!) they have a startle reflex so if they are swaddled slightly less chance of them waking themselves up I have also found.

Is anyone thinking of breathing monitors/clips/mats?

As a nanny I have never felt the need to have them - but as a parent to be I feel my mind is changing on them!

MrsEG · 07/10/2019 13:45

@PippaPug we’re not bothering with breathing monitors - went to the Owlet stand at the baby show and wasn’t impressed; also googled it and they are well known for false readings apparently. Just seems another expense to me!
Oh that’s fab then - I’m in the car a lot and my mum and sister are 10 mins away. We’ve gone for seats with full recline so if they do snooze in them they can have a ‘safe’ nap for a while too!

@purplefig ah great to hear baby has rolled back over again today! I’ve felt a few pops today but it’s still so sooo light. I feel like I’m wishing my life away a bit to just want to skip a few weeks and feel real kicking!!

@Fivebyfive2 I think that sounds fab! Me and DH went for a swim together yesterday and it was a fab way to spend the morning together! Oh good luck with the IKEA cot too!

Half of my baby clothing splurge just arrived - will post some pics in a mo. Stinking adorable!

@PippaPug I'm feeling vaguely organised for once....I have two grow bags already!!! Interesting you say about short sleeve vests - I just assumed long as I'm also due Feb so thinking they'll need the warmth? FWIW I'm not getting those kind of monitors as have also read about false readings etc. just seems like something else to worry about.

@MrsEG the good news is it's only going to get stronger every day 👊🏼🦶🏼! Also, ADORABLE baby splurge ❤️

PippaPug · 07/10/2019 14:29

@MrsEG - ohhhhhhh those outfits are super cute! Where did you get them from?

@purplefig - ohhhh I do love a grow bag (and they go up to the age of 10 😂)
I’m due in March but will be latest 22nd of Feb I do believe (currently!)

I will probably do:

  • Short sleeved vest
  • baby grow
  • cardigan
  • either very thick cardigan/coat/potential pram suit
  • warm blanket - plus scratch mitts/hat

My MIL is currently knitting cardigans - which are all woollen so also warmer then Cotten (if your not opposed charity shops have some wonderful hand knitted clothes for babies which are beautiful)

Still can’t work out if I will need a pram suit or not!

PippaPug · 07/10/2019 14:34

@purplefig - I’m trying to find shops that has a unisex section - I don’t want to look down boys or girls 🙄
Asda has a unisex section and H and M has a baby - 0-9 month section but that’s about all I have found so far.
Also if you have a boy (or a girl!) but you use tights if it’s bitterly cold either under a onesie or just under a pair of trousers (depending what you put your baby in)
Babies always lose socks - never tights 😂

MrsEG · 07/10/2019 14:41

@PippaPug all from H&M! I like their stuff as it’s very non-gendered - everything just has a cute print etc! Also got some dog print and other animal print items too, and very cheap!

@purplefig I know, I can’t wait for it! I find I only notice it at the mo if I’m sat down so can really concentrate on the pops!! What does yours feel like?

OP posts:
purplefig · 07/10/2019 16:44

@PippaPug grow bags are so cute aren't they?! I've got one with little seals on (dear lord I am SUCH a sap these days). Thanks for going into all that detail - so they'll wear all that when they go to bed? Loads of my relatives are on the knitting bandwagon, which is really helpful Grin. Would deffo look in the charity shops too - I really love a second-hand bargain. Not to mention, great for not filling the world with my unnecessary stuff too! Agree H&M has some lovely baby bits, I'm watching a couple of bundles on eBay with some H&M stuff in it - will keep my eyes peeled for some tights too.

@MrsEG I can mainly feel it when I'm sat down too, I just happen to spend a lot of my life sat down at a desk which is great for spotting kicks (and less so, I'm sure, for my long-term health)! At the moment it feels like fairly strong flutters and I can feel what feel like soft little kicks.

What's everyone up to this evening? It's freezing here today (I'm being a dramatic southerner), so I've prepped a veggie lasagna for dinner and looking forward to a nice bath.

PippaPug · 07/10/2019 17:06

@MrsEG - thanks for that, will now go and have a look at H and M!

@purplefig - I love grow bags - because you can thin and thicker ones, as well as with sleeves too! Seals sounds adorable - I’m loving hats with ears on atm!

I think I got confused! (Easily done these days!) The list of clothes I put down would be when they are out and about - with the buggy we have it’s very narrow which means the two carry cots are narrower then standard sadly - so the more layers I put on the babies the less room they will have and more likely to be wedged in 😂 so that’s why I’m not sure about the pram suit - worried they won’t be able to move - are you getting your little one a pram suit? How many weeks are you? 22?

For bed I will put a baby vest, baby grow (onesie) or a baby nightgown, swaddle and if it’s cold a light blanket - we will have the heating on but not overnight as the pipes are soooo noisy!

I’m just cooking dinner - I haven’t cooked for so long for DH and I so need to start really, I am tackling the mass thank you cards - the ones we have ordered have come now so I can’t put it off any longer!

purplefig · 07/10/2019 17:16

@PippaPug I thought that was quite an outfit for sleeping in bahaha!! Makes total sense now. And also makes sense about your two and trying to get them both to fit in Grin. I've got a snowsuit...not sure if that's different to a pramsuit?! It's adorable and animal themed and I am beyond excited to use it. Yes I'm 22 weeks! Enjoy your home cooked dinner, such a treat when it's been a while.

purplefig · 07/10/2019 17:50

@MrsEG last thing...been trying to think of a better description for what the movement feels like and I've come to the conclusion it's get a slight muscle spasm quality to it. Did you ever have one of those naff ab trainer gel band things? My mum had one in the 00s and I remember using it, it sort of feels like that on the lowest setting and in a concentrated area.

Lemonysherbet · 07/10/2019 18:28

@fivebyfive2 don't you just love cats. That made me lol on the train! Furniture looks lovelllly :)

@purplefig haha hi friend. You're also making me laugh

Feel like maybe I needed to laugh today, and all I needed to do was come here. Is grumpiness a symptom of early pregnancy because I could rip someone's head off today. Poor DH he's got my company to look forward to tonight 😂

@mrseg loving the Elmo and cookie monster, how adorable are they!!

purplefig · 07/10/2019 18:41

@Lemonysherbet FWIW I remember feeling quite down fairly frequently in the first trimester which took me by surprise as a) we'd been TTC for 9 months and were so happy/overjoyed/relieved it happened b) it's not my natural disposition.

From reading about, it sounds like it's quite normal to feel off as your hormones really are all over the place and your body is doing everything to madly put together new life. And that's not to mention the physical toll and also anxiety of those early days.

It's hard - and I'm not sure how well I managed - but my best advice would be to ride the waves and have compassion for yourself. In my experience, by about week 9/10 things started to get way better. DH also read 'pregnancy for men' and I can't tell you how nice it was to go through those early weeks with someone who was clued up + kept reminding me to go easy on myself.

Sorry. None of that is very funny at all 😳🤣 big hugs xx

MrsEG · 07/10/2019 19:08

@purplefig I tend to feel tickles on one side and pops on the other (have managed to convince myself they both feel different when they move!) - nothing as strong as a muscle spasm though! Hopefully as you say they’ll get stronger and stronger now - I find myself sat still willing them to move haha!
Not up to too much tonight - I crashed out of our GBBO sweepstake last week so I baking a meringue dessert to take in tomorrow!

@PippaPug I found H&M fab! Enjoy making your dinner :)

@Lemonysherbet I was very low early on - a mixed bag of anxiety, stress and the whole ‘no one knows except us’ drove me barmy some days. I do think it’s quite normal! Just wait til you’ve announced your news to the world, it’s all anyone wants to talk about then so that really helped me especially with the anxiety :) Do you have any friends who are mums? I’ve particularly liked chatting to them about any worries and concerns!

Lemonysherbet · 07/10/2019 21:11

Thank you @MrsEg and @purplefig sometimes it's just reassuring for people to tell you it's ok to be an irrational cow ☺️

DH has been doing diy, must have spilt some white spirit on the draining board, I drank out a cup that must have had it on the rim. Qué us both crapping it about what impact it's had. If anyone accidentally does this, drinking milk apparently is the advice... I mean if I wasn't pregnant I wouldn't give two hoots but was just the perfect end to a perfectly poo day!!!

Anny27 · 07/10/2019 21:29

Ahh sorry that you've had a stressfull end to the day :( @lemonysherbet xx

LokiCat · 08/10/2019 07:15

Morning all! 😊 Whew I've had a miserable two days! The nausea got really bad and I was unfortunately throwing up anything I was trying to eat. I was so hungry by dinner last night. DH grabbed some soup from a Chinese takeaway which thankfully went down! I was hoping the symptoms would be getting calmer as I neared the end of the first trimester 😭 also, weirdly I've had some pain in the back of my right thigh, which started around the same time as above, so hopefully it's not something else 🤔
I'm a lot better this morning, so fingers crossed I'm back to normal again!

@ELW85 I'm glad you asked about midwife appointments and DH as I was wondering the same. Might see if DH will want to for a chance to hear heartbeat though.
Can't believe you're 16 weeks! When's your appointment?

@purplefig it's a U shaped pillow. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Haven't found the strength to carry it upstairs and put the covers on yet! 🙈
How exciting that you've started to feel so much movement! I don't think I'll completely believe I'm pregnant until I get to that stage! Happy 22 weeks 😁

@MrsEG ahh congratulations to your friend! Bless her she went through it so long.
Sorry to hear you're still in so much pain. When do you see the midwife to ask for any tips? Would it be worth ringing her if it's this bad?
Those baby outfits are so cute! I love the Elmo and Cookie Monster one especially!

@Fivebyfive2 ha my cats would be exactly the same! They have to get their little butts into everything! Loving the wardrobe, especially all the blue (my fav colour 😁). Hope you're enjoying your week off!

@PippaPug ooh glad you've got some big things ordered, that'll be nice to get ticked off the list!
I'm hoping to have a better list of what we want from the baby show next weekend and maybe start ordering when the Christmas sales start.
I'm glad you and @purplefig are discussing all about baby grows/onesies. I'm taking notes! This may be a stupid question, what is a grow bag? Is that just a type of sleeping bag? (I feel so clueless!)

@Lemonysherbet I've definitely had days/weeks where I've felt quite low and a few days where I was just snapping at DH over nothing. Thankfully he's been so great and understanding. It must be all the hormones going haywire! Hopefully you'll start feeling better soon xx

Sorry if there's anyone else/any chat I've missed! Have a lovely day all xx

Tropicana1 · 08/10/2019 08:12

Thanks for all the suggestions last week ladies - made me feel much better about my minor panic 😂 and thanks @MrsEG for the booklist - got that one saved now! This thread moves so quickly I feel like it's a full time job to keep up on a busy day haha! Will have a nice read through today and catch up properly

thumper59 · 08/10/2019 08:25

Morning all hope your well!

This thread moves super quickly,
36+1 today. Pelvis is sore, acid is as awful as ever but every day is one closer to meeting him ☺️. Babies head is 3/5 engaged however have been told this isn't an indication he'll come early or even on time so it's just a waiting game for him now, glad he has followed the rule book and been and stayed head down since 28 weeks and now he is that engaged it's very unlikely he'll move again 🤗

Hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday xx
