@purplefig yep they are preparing you for the unknown of parenting :p and my san is in just 24 days :D was yours an internal scan or abdominal?

purplefig · 02/10/2019 11:13

@Anny27 haha that's it! I feel like the whole TTC/pregnancy journey has been one big lesson in patience and letting go of control! Ooo 24 days isn't too long to wait. Mine was abdominal, but they do say that early on it might have to be internal.

MrsEG · 02/10/2019 11:15

@purplefig We got carrycots second hand for the Out n About and the attachment; car seats we are having to get separate :)

OP posts:
purplefig · 02/10/2019 11:33

@MrsEG doh! That makes way more sense. All my harping on about this topic was inspired by the fact I've just spotted a 2nd hand carrycot for the nipper (for £20!!!!) and then I suddenly thought - do I need a car seat too?! The carrycot is in really good condition but bought 4 years ago, so I'm just trying to make sure it'll fit the latest nipper model that we'll be buying. I've told DH the car seat can be his area of research Grin.

PippaPug · 02/10/2019 11:49

Hello everyone,

How have you all been? Sorry I have been quiet, back to work doing 14 odd hour days and then I’m working in a area I worked in a few years ago and friends are wanting to meet up after work so I’m pretty much crashing after work!

How’s everyone’s week been?

LikeTheFruit · 02/10/2019 11:56

@MrsH497 sorry you're having a tough time with work. It's so difficult working in a 24/7 profession. Can you get a "fit nite" from your GP- essentially a sick note which states that you need to be working reduced hours?
I've negotiated with work (I'm a Doctor) to come off night shifts at 22 weeks and then about 30 I'm going to ask to stop 12 hour long days. Our long days are 8-8 so I'm going to suggest doing 12-8 on the days I should be long so that I still doing evenings but just shorter hours.
Could you do that with your 11pm finishes? Start later in the day?

I feel your pain though, my current job does 24 hour on call which you can go home from about 6 pm and only go back if called. Got called back in at 4:30am this morning and didn't get home again til nearly 8am so am shattered!!

Tropicana1 · 02/10/2019 13:49

@Anny27 we found out - DH was soooo keen to know, I wouldn't have minded either way, but as he pointed out it's a surprise either way just at 20 weeks or 40 weeks it's still a surprise! 😂

@mrsof20118 glad to hear things are going well - any top tips for breastfeeding? Do you do any pumping as well?

Re bumps, I've definitely popped now (26 weeks) but literally only since probably 24 weeks that it's been an actual bump! Well and truly arrived now though!

MrsH497 · 02/10/2019 14:27

Thanks for the support ladies - I blame my hormones 🤣

@LikeTheFruit fit note sounds like an idea

Anny27 · 02/10/2019 14:38

@purplefig hopefully i can have an abdominal scan! Will try drink lots of water to push up the uterus 🤞🤞

@tropicana1 DH thinks he will be able to bond with the baby more if he knows the gender which i totally get! Ooh what are yoy having? :D

MrsEG · 02/10/2019 14:50

@purplefig £20 is amazing!! We paid £70 for two carrycots and the adapter - all less than a year old. I do love a good second hand find!! Yeah, we’re getting the car seats just for the car - I know I’ll be ferrying they around all over the place. You also can’t leave hospital with baby without a car seat! I didn’t know this until recently!

@PippaPug Sounds like you’ve been very busy!! Hope you’re getting plenty of rest between work and friends!

@Anny27 I had an internal scan at 9 weeks - they’re not uncomfortable at all, they really aren’t. Much clearer picture too!

I feel extremely sick today - I think my stomach is getting a bit squished as I’m really not eating a lot / big portions but I feel so sluggish.

OP posts:
PippaPug · 02/10/2019 15:24

@MrsEG - erm probably not as much as I should be getting! How are you?

Think a friend and I will go to the baby show later this month as she is super excited and it’s lovely to share this with friends too.
Still deciding on car seats but now seem 99% sold on a buggy and we are sorting the cots and mattresses this weekend - our local store will give us BOGOF on the mattresses and twin discount on the cots 🎉 how have you been?

BostonFern · 02/10/2019 15:31

@BabySquid hope your arms are ok today!

@MrsEG Still exhausted and working on the anxiety, I've actually finished work now, saw the consultant yesterday and she advised the stop work. Feels a bit odd at the moment. Pleased to hear your work risk assessment has been done and you've got WFH days sorted.

@thumper59 thank you. You look fabulous! Glad you enjoyed the wedding, not sure how you lasted that long, let alone in heels! Isn't it weird to be able to say we are due next month too!

@PippaPug I'm not surprised you need to crash after those hours-make sure you take care of yourself!

I had my 32 week scan and consultant appointment yesterday-baby is still big, estimated at 4lb 10oz currently! No scan photo as he's already head down, with his spine to my back-all we could see was his ear when we tried to see his face!

purplefig · 02/10/2019 17:38

@MrsEG that's a really good deal too - brings down the overall cost of the pushchair quite a bit! Sorry you're feeling sick - I suppose your stomach is going to have less room earlier on. Any tips from twin mum friends? Maybe smaller meals or what about soups/smoothies?

@BostonFern great news he's head down. Is the plan to keep an eye on his size? You're not far off now!!

Think I'm coming down with a cold annoyingly. Drank my usual homemade sore throat tonic and that's helped, just going to rest up as much as poss. Luckily it's leftovers (curry 🙌🏻) tonight. X

LokiCat · 02/10/2019 17:42

Hi all! 😊 just got home to a beautiful bouquet of flowers on my desk and a packet of pombears (think I got more excited about the latter 😂). DH has been so amazing 🥰

@MrsH497 of course! It doesn't matter what the operational needs are, your wellbeing is a lot more important. I hope they're able to help somehow!

@MrsEG I'm definitely counting down the days till the scan date! My scan is on the 16, so two weeks today so excited to see baby again, especially as I've been reading they move a lot more in this one and I can't wait to see that!
Wow 20 weeks! How amazing!! I still remember when everyone here got their bfps. Time is flying!

@purplefig I think there's 6, but I might be wrong! Will be interesting to see how it ends.
Ah sorry to hear you might be coming down with something, hope it stays away! Yum, love a good curry! Enjoy 😊

@Anny27 ahh that'll be amazing, especially at 9 weeks. They actually look more like a baby by then as well. I had an internal scan for mine and it didn't hurt at all. They're really great about it, constantly asking to make sure you're still comfortable.
We've told mine and DH's parents, my manager and our closest friends (my best friend is due around the same as me, which is crazy!).
I'm really close to my colleagues at work, so very excited to tell them once the 12 week scan is done! Have you told anyone yet?

@PippaPug oh bless you, not surprised you've been crashing after having such long days! Hope you're able to get some time to relax as well.

@BostonFern oh wow, already head down! How crazy that all you could see was his ear. Is that an uncomfortable position having his spine to your back (sorry I'm completely oblivious to baby's positions etc)?

I'm going to go enjoy my pombears now Grin

MrsEG · 02/10/2019 17:45

@PippaPug I’m okay! Got my 20-week scan next week so looking forward to that and seeing the consultant and everyone again; find out what the next stage is! That’s great you’re getting some good twin offers!!

@BostonFern Must feel weird to have finished up already but consultant knows best; she must’ve realised it was time for you to rest up! Oh wow, great to hear head down already though! Hopefully you won’t be waiting on too long :)

@purplefig Nothing really, I was going to mention it to the consultant but soups and smoothies are actually a fab idea. Good way to get some more greens in too! Sorry to hear you’ve got the lurgy - so pants isn’t it when you can’t just reach for the decongestants!! Have a good rest.

OP posts:
purplefig · 02/10/2019 18:13

@LokiCat ooo what a lad!! Double points for the pombears, a first tri Classic 😂❤️

@MrsEG after a crappy week of eating I actually had a smoothie for breaky and a soup for lunch (let's not mention the plate of Quorn nuggets for...afternoon tea?!) and it does feel good getting extra greens in! No way I'd eat berries, banana, spinach and flaxseed on their own for breakfast - but whizzed up?! 🤤

I've spent the afternoon ploughing through 'The book you wish your parents had read' and I really rate it. If anyone's looking for a big picture, no judgement overview on creating a decent child-parent relationship, I'd fully recommend.

MrsH497 · 02/10/2019 18:37

@LokiCat pombears!! 😍 amazing! That's so lovely. Well my line manager is trying to help but being over ruled higher up 🙄 sometimes wonder if the role I'm in is good for me or not.

Told my grandparents tonight who are over the moon which made a crappy day that bit better.

Xx

BabySquid · 02/10/2019 19:00

@MrsEG totally feeling you on the squished feeling! I only had a small soup and didi roll for lunch and feel massive!!
@BostonFern my left arm (whooping cough arm) is proper aching today and I've just got changed and there's a red patch, but it's only small so nothing to worry about, slightly raised too but not bad! Ooooo head down! I hope he turns and doesn't stay back to back though!

I'm just catching up on bake off, wishing I'd got something to eat with it!! Bake off is totally not diet friendly!!

ELW85 · 02/10/2019 19:57

Evening all!

Sorry I’ve been MIA; I’ve had a ridiculous deadline to work towards for Friday ad well as a team-off-site today so I’ve been working late the past few nights and it’s just taken it out of me.

DH picked me up from the station tonight with McDonalds fries (I needed them) so I feel very full and content!

@purplefig - thanks so much for asking after me, lovely! How are you doing?
I’ve just googled your book recommendation and will definitely be getting that! You’ve got 100% record in awesome book recommendations!

@LokiCat - so pleased DH has been treating you, you absolutely deserve it!

Just catching up on The Capture and GBBO now.
Sorry for everything I’ve missed; I hope you’re all well and are having a wonderful week - nearly the weekend!! Yaaaaay!

MrsEG · 02/10/2019 20:33

So one of my best friends is currently in labour!! It’s her due date today as well! However she only went on for a sweep but her BP was so high they think she has pre-eclampsia so she was admitted and quickly induced. Not how she was hoping things would go but as long as her wee man is here with us happy and healthy soon! She’s had such a healthy pregnancy so just goes to show you never know what’s going to happen.

@purplefig I LOVE Quorn nuggets - have you tried the buttermilk ones?! Drool! Book sounds fab, I’m all over it!

@BabySquid I know - of all the things pregnancy takes from you - the ability to stuff your face!! DH had made a chow mein for when I got home and I could only manage half the bowl. HALF! Agree - this weeks bake off particularly made me really want ice cream!!

@ELW85 Sounds like you’ve had a crazy week!! Enjoy those McDonalds fries - the memories, I lived off those until around 14 weeks! Oh the salt and carbs!

Tropicana1 · 02/10/2019 20:55

@MrsH497 random question - whenever I cook stew and dumplings my dumplings are utter shite! What's your recipe?

@Anny27 we're having a girl 😊 definitely has helped my DH in that respect - he was convinced it was a boy and a little initially disappointed I think not that he would admit it on scan day. Now he's got used to it being a girl he's SO excited and loves that we're having a girl!

@BabySquid 26 weeks now and still waking up on my back lots. @MrsEG and then either ladies reassured me a lot last week that it's the falling asleep position that matters most and correcting yourself when you woke. I have a dream geanii pillow which has helped a little bit, but the "back support" bit is way too far away from me when I'm on my side to do much good, I can still lie flat on my back with it!!

Does anyone know of any good books or resources for what you actually need to do with a baby 😂 might sound ridiculous but a friend posted about "tummy time" the other day and I was like wtf even is that and now I'm scared my baby will lack developmentally because I'm fucking clueless 😂🙈 @purplefig is the book you're reading along these lines?

ELW85 · 02/10/2019 20:57

@MrsEG - I hope your friend is ok! It must have been worrying to hear that, but she’s totally in the best place possible now 😊
The fries were amazing! Currently on the sofa trying to stay awake.
How are you doing?

MrsEG · 02/10/2019 21:03

@Tropicana1 I have this link bookmarked: www.mumsnet.com/books/best-parenting-books
I haven’t bought or read any yet but I’m going to start looking in to them soon!

@ELW85 She’s fine! She’s been so miserable and uncomfortable in these last few weeks that I think she’s just glad it’s finally happening now! I’m seriously craving those fries now! I’m good thanks - squeezed in yoga after work tonight and always feel excellent for it; catching up on The Capture now! Hope you’re recovering after your crazy week!

OP posts:
MrsH497 · 02/10/2019 21:13

@Tropicana1 haha no worries.

Dumplings:
I used atora beef suet
100g s.r flour
50g suet
Pinch salt
Water - warm ideally and it says to use 5 tablespoons but I used an egg cup last night and did 1 and a dribble! Start off with a little bit and gradually add. Mix it together with a fork until it naturally combines together you don't want it wet. Divide into I do 6 smaller ones be gentle barely touch them chuck them in put some sauce over the top. Put a lid on 20 mins and hopefully you have a stew and dumplings!

My dumplings come out different every time yesterday they were ace other times not so much so I think it's amount of water and not working them too much. Literally i pick up the quantity make sure it's sort of round and that's it

Stew recipe is a really easy one if anyone wants that 😂 xx

PippaPug · 02/10/2019 21:43

@Tropicana1 - there are some good Baby books out there, but please don’t worry about things like “tummy time” etc your baby won’t lack anything developmentally - and sometimes the books can cause parents anxiety because the baby isn’t doing what the book said it should be doing - just remember the baby hasn’t read the books!

Any book which is along the lines of the first 12 months can be helpful and also the wonder weeks book can be good too....but your soon know your own baby and read their cues and know what to do ☺️
