@SLT90 tonight I'm really struggling! I'm hungry all the time and if I don't eat I start to feel so I like you said! But I want to go to sleep! And I can't get to sleep because I keep feeling sick!!!! it's driving me insane ! How far are you? Xx

Kaix · 05/08/2019 22:22

@MaryMary99

Welcome. I’m completely the same. I’m the biggest foodie but right now I’m just not interested in anything. I’ve even gone off my cups of tea which is insane for me.

I had to swiftly leave the end of the store when shopping earlier where they’d spilt something, apparently I can’t deal with any cleaning products either!

I’ve been trying to keep it quiet at work but if this continues they’re going to guess I’m sure.

Question for you ladies, I’m going to phone up for my midwife appointment this week (I’m 6+2 ish from what I can work out) is this too early still? And is this something I could take my partner to or is it ok to go on my own?

Jesskir89 · 05/08/2019 22:38

@kaix from what I've heard you usually have your booking appointment between 8 and 10 weeks and don't think your partner needs to be there

SweetChillis · 05/08/2019 23:15

@Kaix I booked mine when I was 5 weeks. Had it at 7+4 weeks. My doctors is a nightmare for appointments though so I had to get in there early. I took my partner, it is my first pregnancy and he wanted to come. He did ask questions and there was a lot of info to take in so I was glad he was there. You don't need to bring them though so I'd say it's up to you Smile

Dinosauraddict · 06/08/2019 05:52

Welcome @thankful16 and @mumof3plusbean.

Great news @FlipKat.

@Kaix I think it depends on your area. In mine they strongly encourage you to bring DH to booking in appointment as they need to go through both family histories etc.

MummyP1g · 06/08/2019 06:58

@Kaix I'd definitely book it now. I went in last Thursday to book and the earliest appointment I could get was the 27th August! So I'm now trying to get to see someone earlier as I'll need my first scan around that time and I'm on holiday the week after. Also means it'll be unlikely I'll get my booking appointment in before 12 weeks. Hoping for a call back from the community midwives today to sort it out.

Bailey93 · 06/08/2019 07:27

Hi Everyone!
Hope you don't mind me joining this thread.
I'm due end of March. but started bleeding on Sunday! I am so worried. They can't see me for a scan until Friday :( I hope it's not the worst.

Dinosauraddict · 06/08/2019 07:46

Welcome @Bailey93 and sorry you're worried. Can you go for a private scan? They'd probably be able to get you in today/tomorrow?

Bailey93 · 06/08/2019 07:55

@Dinosauraddict it's a trans vaginal scan because I'm so early they can't do an external scan. Can I have that done privately? Thanks, yes I am. It's my first time too!

Keyboard91 · 06/08/2019 07:57

@FlipKat I’m really happy to hear it went well ❤️

@Yvonne1988 let us know how it’s goes after your phone call

@Kaix I did the referral at 4+3 and the earliest appointment I could get was August 27th when I’ll be nearly 9 weeks. So definitely get yourself booked in :)

@avocadoincident how are you feeling today my lovely?

Does the nausea develop into a pattern at all? Day before yesterday it really started and was all afternoon, yesterday it was in the evening and through the night. Then this morning was horrible. Haven’t been sick yet but slept with my face on the edge of the bed and a bucket strategically placed next to me 🤢

Also, I weighed myself at 4 weeks. I’m 6+5 and have lost 5lbs ... is that okay or should I worry? It’s not a conscious effort(!)

OP posts:
Dinosauraddict · 06/08/2019 08:06

@Bailey93 yes that's absolutely fine, they regularly do transvaginal scans privately!

@Keyboard91 don't worry about the weight loss, a lot of women lose weight in first trimester due to sickness. The baby will still take what it needs, and weight will often fluctuate before then increasing when baby gets bigger.

ELW85 · 06/08/2019 08:12

Morning all!

@Yvonne1988 - did you get your scan booked?

@FlipKat - so pleased it went well for you!

@Kaix - they did my booking appointment super early as I had some spotting and wanted to get me on their systems. DH was there as they needed info from him on his medical history and his family.

@Keyboard91 - it’s really common to lose weight in the first trimester because of aversions and sickness. The baby is totally fine because it actually feeds on your fat stores in this stage. It’s only after the placenta is fully up and running for the second trimester that they take nutrients more directly and you get your appetite back. I’ve done a lot of reading on it as I’m in the same boat, but there’s loads of good articles on the net to reassure you!

Yvonne1988 · 06/08/2019 08:57

@elw85 waiting for them to phone still.

ELW85 · 06/08/2019 09:15

@Yvonne1988 - hopefully they ring soon and you get sorted x

Yvonne1988 · 06/08/2019 10:10

It's tomorrow at 12. I wanted Friday cos I'm on my own with the kids. And it's about 25 mins to the hospital I can't drive. I'll have to sort something out.

Keyboard91 · 06/08/2019 10:11

@Dinosauraddict @ELW85 thank you. I have PLENTY of fat stores so it can suck away on that!

I’m currently watching a cake baking competition series on Netflix ... they look amazing and I don’t have to eat or smell it!

Keyboard91 · 06/08/2019 10:13

@Yvonne1988 at least that means you will get answers/reassurance sooner than later?

Dinosauraddict · 06/08/2019 10:15

@Keyboard91 I'm impressed with your stomach. I am not even coping with people mentioning food until at least 3-4pm!

Brandygirl27 · 06/08/2019 10:49

I’ve booked to have a private scan today at 12:45, feeling so scared and praying dates add up I am around 10 weeks 1 day well I should be 🙏🏻Has anyone had an early scan with a full bladder and not had to have it internally please ? As I’m praying I don’t need an internal 🙈🙏🏻

Keyboard91 · 06/08/2019 10:58

@Dinosauraddict I’m still quite early (6+5) and find my nausea comes and goes so at the moment it’s not too bad and can get away with it ... so making the most of it!

@Brandygirl27 at 10 weeks there should be no need for an internal as everything should be big enough to view easily through your belly. I was speaking to my sister as we are going next week when we at 8 weeks and she said it will most likely be external. I’m going expecting external but will ‘prepare’ just in case they need to go internal ... IYKWIM 🙈

I think what effects it once you are past 7/8 weeks is how much fat you have and if your bladder is full enough to push everything into view.

OP posts:
Brandygirl27 · 06/08/2019 11:03

Haha Yepp I know what you mean 😂😂I hate internal, had one at 6 weeks and fingers crossed today’s is external, need to have a full bladder anyway, I’m so nervous scared and excited, have any of you been wearing sickness bands ? As I have and today I don’t have it on and sickness is defo there a bit more xx

Keyboard91 · 06/08/2019 11:08

@Brandygirl27 good luck, let us know! I’ve been tempted to order some but they only come in one size ... I’m on the chunkier side so worried they won’t fit or won’t be comfy as they’ll stretch so much?

OP posts:
Brandygirl27 · 06/08/2019 12:06

Thankyou will let you all know 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👌they are rather stretchy hun, but have a look online as I’m sure they have lots of different ones, but I defo recommend at the moment they are helping me for sure, I’m actually getting a bump and a few people have bloody noticed I’m pregnant 🙈need to start wearing maternity leggings soon as my normal are a little uncomfy x

Yvonne1988 · 06/08/2019 12:29

I'm sad my normal leggings don't fit. Can't wear them over uncomfortable to put them under.

MaryMary99 · 06/08/2019 12:30

Thanks for the replies everyone. Feel reassured now. Will try some ginger biscuits too.

Another question for you all. Has anyone ever used Shared Parental Leave (or know someone who has)? Is it as easy as it sounds?
I work full time for our family business and all being well I plan to work up to 38 weeks then have 2.5 months off after the birth (so 3 months maternity leave in total). If all goes to plan OH will have ‘my’ remaining 9 months off (6 months paid, 3 months unpaid). We both work full time, both have been with our companies for years and are both are on PAYE. Providing he gives the correct notice to his employer is SPL as straightforward as it sounds on the internet? x
