Congratulation @HJWT !

Frizzy1986 · 02/05/2019 20:20

So I've had my consultant appointment today due to a 3b tear last time.
What a waste of time!
Appointment was 45 mins late. Midwife did BP and listened for babies heartbeat (that bit was nice as they couldn't get it at 16 weeks. What a difference 2 weeks makes) and then consultant strolls in, reads my notes, tells me I should get to hospital earlier next time.
I ask him if there is any restriction on my birthing options (as he hasn't said anything) and he says no because the tear I had isn't that bad.
Then he says theyll see me again at 28 weeks and the midwife jumps in and says 36 weeks might be better considering I'm healthy with no issues.
Midwife disappears onto the next patient, consultant hands me my notes, a piece of paper (that I don't really look at) and walks out.
I rush off to get dd from school and arriving home I think maybe I should've given the piece of paper into reception as I left.
It has on my name, arrival time, intended appointment time and 28/52. That's it. None of the boxes are ticked, no other writing.
Is that saying I have to go back at 28 weeks? Surely it would say 28/40. I really just want to be midwife care as it was a total ball ache and I get better interaction and information from a midwife.
I'm also panicking as I've taken it home and now have no idea what to do with it.

abcriskringle · 03/05/2019 06:06

@Frizzy1986 that may be the sheet to hand in to get your next appointment? I had a sheet I had to give to reception and she gave me my next appt then and there. Perhaps give them a call to clarify? Sounds like a crap appointment- I had my first consultant appointment this week and it was quite comprehensive. Hopefully the next one will be more informative / useful for you.

Frizzy1986 · 03/05/2019 06:33

Thanks @KatnissKringle
I need to try and figure out where to call. I'm really sad about it all now. From the information I got yesterday there is no need for me to be under consultant care. Fit, healthy, good BP, no issues with my tear and consultant said it won't effect what birth I want. So why do I need to see him again. I find midwives lovely, helpful, caring, supportive, yet he basically said it was my fault I tore because I should've got to hospital faster (even the midwife in the room said it was probably because active labour was so short). Its all made me feel really s*&t and I'd rather have a pregnancy and labour full of positivity and not have to deal with him again. I already suffer from anxiety (which I have managed to keep at bay so far) and I don't want this to mess that up.

abcriskringle · 04/05/2019 08:06

@Frizzy1986 sorry you're feeling so down. I wonder if at your next appt you could ask to be signed off on midwife-led care? Perhaps speak to your midwife about it? Hope you're feeling a bit better about it all x

angel0071987 · 04/05/2019 08:53

@Frizzy1986 does your cryptic note refer to next appointment. Ie 28/52 mean week 28 of the year. Assuming we haven't already had that ... just checked second week July. Would match up with appointment schedule anyway if that the case I would think as I have an appointment that week too.

abcriskringle · 04/05/2019 12:46

Had my private scan - having a boy!! Very exciting!!!

newbabyyy2019 · 04/05/2019 22:21

@KatnissKringle congratulations!! 💙

Frizzy1986 · 05/05/2019 07:22

@KatnissKringle congrats. How exciting.

I called the hospital and it does mean a 28 week appointment so I'm booked in for July 😔
Called the midwife team to say how unhappy I was and they said that there is little they can do until I'm signed off consultant care (although they were very sympathetic and lovely about it). Dh is going to come with me to the 28 week one and if they don't sign me off I'm going to push for it. Demand a medical reason why I cant be as at no point was I given any reason why I needed to be consultant led at this appointment.
Just can't believe how rude he was. He didn't give me any information, talk to me about future risks. Surely that's the point of a consultant, to discuss what happened last time and the risks of it happening again.
He didn't treat me like a human and blaming me for tearing is not acceptable in my book especially as he didn't ask me about the birth at all to find out the details of what happened.

2018isanewyear · 05/05/2019 12:21

Congrats @KatnissKringle!!!

Anyone bought anything yet? I have got a few bits I have seen when out and about (nothing big) and want to wait till
20 weeks at least for the bigger items however the baby show is coming up and was tempted to go? My friend got a bargain prAm, I will not be 20 weeks then though and no opportunity to go to another really.

newbabyyy2019 · 05/05/2019 13:26

@2018isanewyear
Me and DP brought some cute fluffy baby slippers and then when we found out it was a girl we went and brought two little dresses and some little shoes, we couldn't help ourselves 😆 also brought a pack of 3 vests. I've already had a Moses basket brought for baby and loads of teddies, clothes and even a electrical musical rocking swing thing.. We're going to wait till 20+ weeks before we get anything big

SunshineSophia · 05/05/2019 19:36

Hello! I bought a 'born in 2019' vest really early in my pregnancy - wasnt sure if it was a bit cringe but I was so excited to start buying things for the baby (and it was a pound from poundland!) I haven't bought anything since then until Wednesday - I had my second midwife appointment and got really excited and went out and bought a little knitted 2-piece sweater and legging set from Matalan. Its killing me not knowing what I'm having! All I want to do is buy cute clothes - neutrals are so boring! OH doesn't want to find out so looks like I'm stuck with the greys, greens and yellows Confused

Woolly17 · 07/05/2019 11:06

Not buying anything till we get to the gender scan. Next week. Eek.

I have a specialist midwife appointment this Friday. Hoping to be assessed as low risk. However I have started to get some serious breathlessness... But only when I lie down. I can handle lying on my left but at night I move and when I am on my back its especially bad. I then wake up not being able to catch my breath, so nights are like an 8hr panic attack.

Kiko12 · 08/05/2019 09:28

We had our first expedition into Mothercare this weekend! As we're having our first child we were completely lost... You could go crazy with all the gadgets and add-ons. A lot more is needed to work out what exactly we need and what is just a "nice-to-have"!

I did come away with some new maternity bras though, which are super comfy. Yay!

Doop · 08/05/2019 10:12

Ive bought this off eBay and am making this octopus while I'm signed off work

Ah @Doop love the sleep suit and that octopus is going to be so cute I wish I was crafty like that, my mum and nan are though so hoping for some homage items

2018isanewyear · 08/05/2019 10:18

@Doop are you also still undecided on if your finding out?

Doop · 08/05/2019 11:09

@2018isanewyear veering towards finding out at the moment! Agh!

GinMama1 · 08/05/2019 11:59

Kiko I'd really recommend booking an appointment with John Lewis where they talk you through all the stuff. We found it helpful and they give you cake!

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 09/05/2019 10:08

Hi Ladies,

Anyone thinking of doing NCT Classes?

GinMama1 · 09/05/2019 11:07

I did them with my first PositiveThinkingRainbow and I found them helpful but also great for making friends! I'd almost be prepared to do them again to meet people.

Woolly17 · 09/05/2019 11:34

Not this time... 3 of my original NCT group are pregnant again (due Oct and Dec) so I will skip the ante-natal class but thinking about doing one of the post natal classes.

Kiko12 · 09/05/2019 15:22

@GinMama1 Thanks for the recommendation, I'll try it out!

Just had my first acupuncture session to try and combat this consistent nausea. Fingers crossed! Has it worked for anyone else?

Doop · 09/05/2019 19:21

@Kiko12 considering acupuncture for my back, so i will be curious how it goes for you!

Jodie6 · 09/05/2019 22:24

Hello all, I'm just over 17 weeks and just had a private scan at Window to the womb and they confirmed we are having a little girl. So excited to know and can now plan.

I was told the second trimester is the best time to buy because the third you get tired so we've already bought the pushchair and cotbed and matching dresser. Nothing clothes related but was just trying to make things easier later on.
