Hiya peeps,

DP and I have once again had a discussion over spelling of LO's name...when he gets here lol.

We have settled on Konor Michal, Konor is my way of spelling it but dp says if it being spelt with a K then we should spell it Konnor, I say Konor.

Michal he won't even attempt to judge me on as it was my dads name....pronounced Mehal it is Polish.

Which way would you choose? I prefer Konor and dp Konnor...

ROFL at the length of this thread
I didn't think I was being that controversial, and others seem to have repeated much of what I said earlier.
I disappeared off to clean my house - shock horror!

TLE, just bear in mind that other people - rightly or wrongly - will judge you and your son on the basis of the name you give him. If you are happy with that, then go ahead, and ignore all the cyber ramblings of a bunch of people you don't know.

We all know that people judge us on our appearance, our hair, and the clothes we wear. But some of us are still happy to slob around on a Saturday and during holidays; blissfully uncaring of the judgments of others.

In any case we all know of plenty of examples of individuals with ridiculous names, or quirky spellings, who have risen above it; and the unusualness of their name contributes to their personality and character.

Aitch · 08/07/2007 12:35

i understand that you like it, but what i don't understand is that given that you now know that so many people think it sounds dreadful, why you wouldn't even think of reconsidering.
your family may or may not like it, you can't tell someone to their face that their child's name is awful, you just ahve to smile and say it's lovely so you have to ignore what they say i'm afraid. believe me, though, there will be eye-rolling at a Konnor.
that's why i actually think that you're getting valuable intel here, and you'd be foolish to waste it just for stubbornness.

For the record, i think if you're determined to go ahead with it then Konor is best. it still looks stupid imo but you might be able to get away with people thinking it's polish.

roisin · 08/07/2007 12:35

Btw I've also seen the spelling Conar - just to throw another possibility into the melting pot

ruddynorah · 08/07/2007 12:37

seeing konnor or worse konor makes me think of knorr stock cubes.

Uki · 08/07/2007 12:37

This thread is now making me a tad

I mean really wulfricsmummy

That study sounds stupid itself, who was it done by, how many people did they survey, was it at least 1000 of each name>>>> I doubt it is credible, I remember studying some survey in uni done about intelligence and obituaries, it was credible, but still of no real long term insight or importance.

Can we just all leave TheladyEvenstar and her Little Konnor in peace now............................................................

TaylorsMummy · 08/07/2007 12:38

i think maybe Konor would be better too,it could possibly look polish when combined with the middle name.

if you go for Konnor Michal,it seriously just looks like you can't spelt and have made spelling mistakes in both names

MollyCoddle · 08/07/2007 12:47

As for the comments re: your DS 'suffering' as a result of your choice of name...what nonsense. I think it's sad that a number of posters are so convinced that certain names will make a child a target for bullying. There is almost a "well they are asking for it" attitude. I have a feeling that if there is any bullying, it would be from the children of people with such dismissive and sneering attitudes.

You are clearly not going to be browbeaten into conforming, and that IMO makes you a great role model for your DSs. I feel sorry for children of parents who only ever follow the herd.

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/07/2007 12:47

Taylor, But MICHAL is spelt correctly. Anyone that knows me knows it was my dads name and knows thats why i am using it. Sadly dad is no longer with me.

TheMild, at the end of it all..It was just a simple question.....not really worth all the responses but hey if thats what some people feel the need to do then good luck to them.

I am sticking with Konnor, I can't see it causing major problems with ds as he grows up. But that is just my opinion.

I am starting to think there aren't many names which don't have to be spelt nowadays. Even names such as Ann or John can have different variants.

Aitch · 08/07/2007 12:53

that's tm's point, i think. it makes you look like both are mis-spellings where Konor Michal looks convincingly foreign.

Whats so hard about saying 'its Connor with a K' hardly like he has to spell out his name in its entirety.

Aitch · 08/07/2007 12:55

i don't think it will cause major problems, LES, just cause people to infer all sorts of things into his parents background and educational status that may not be true, according to what you say. it's not fair, but it is life.

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/07/2007 12:56

MrsFish, I haven't known it be a problem with ds1. He always says Karl with a K

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/07/2007 12:57

Aitch that shows other people ignorance then doesn't it? Rather than look bad on us as parents.

People must be extremely shallow if they are going to judge a parent by what they call their child, especially if it is a known name with just a different spelling. 90% of the time people will just ask what the child is called, the mother doesn't have to say it Connor spelt with a K, they will just say Connor, and no-one will be any the wiser.

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/07/2007 12:59

Kerry if you care to read through I have settled on KONNOR so 2 N's. ds2 will only need to say Konnor with a K. Not hard for anyone to do.
