Hiya peeps,

DP and I have once again had a discussion over spelling of LO's name...when he gets here lol.

We have settled on Konor Michal, Konor is my way of spelling it but dp says if it being spelt with a K then we should spell it Konnor, I say Konor.

Michal he won't even attempt to judge me on as it was my dads name....pronounced Mehal it is Polish.

Which way would you choose? I prefer Konor and dp Konnor...

no, i don't think it will be a problem in that sense, but i do think that it will be quietly garnering the sort of reaction you've seen here and that this is a good opportunity to consider that, tis all.

TheLadyEvenstar · 08/07/2007 13:16

Kerry are you really that bothered by others opinions then? personally I feel at the end of the day if we want to do something it is ur choice and we shouldn't be swayed by others. But again thats my opinion.

ah, you see that's the nub of it for me, though. it's not you your naming, it's your child. anyway, Michal is a blindingly lovely name and if i had any polish ancestry i'd have it in a second, lol.

Uki · 08/07/2007 13:18

I'm getting more
you shouldn't have to keep defending yourself TLE

Aitch · 08/07/2007 13:18

you you're naming, i mean...

TaylorsMummy · 08/07/2007 13:19

i just honestly don't see the point.really not trying to be difficult,i just don't get it!! if you are going to go for something as common as Connor, why mess the name about?? especially when you get a reaction like you have here - shouldn't that tell you something??

MrsFish · 08/07/2007 13:19

If a friend told me they had called their son Konnor, but they had spelt it with a K, I might just possibly think 'Oh that's an unusual way of spelling it' I wouldn't start analysing it, thinking they were chavvy, or had spelt it wrong, or were being wierd, I have far better things to think about.

Anyway all this discussion is a bit pointless now isn't it, the OP has made her mind up and is sticking to it

Aitch · 08/07/2007 13:21

'i have far better things to think about...' excellent. good to see that one too.

Uki · 08/07/2007 13:27

I'm not feeling well, and who knows, in another 5 years people might be saying Konnor with a "C" Oh i like it better with a "K"

Names are like that FASHIONABLE

till people stop...............

Aitch · 08/07/2007 13:28

exaactly uki.
personally i wouldn't give my child a fashion name.

MollyCoddle · 08/07/2007 13:37

KerryMum - where did I say anything about it 'harming' you? I repeated your statement, that it was an 'annoyance'.

Aitch - OK, perhaps I should have been more direct. I was trying to say that KerryMum IMO should take a chill pill if she finds spelling her name annoying. I cannot imagine getting annoyed over such a triviality.

Uki · 08/07/2007 13:39

AHHHH

well i think all names have probably been fashionable once or even if they are classical thats still chosing a name because it is old fashioned. OR

You could just be going against fashion and then choosing a name to go deliberately against fashion, which will probably then become fashionable or it could just be a horrible name no one much would ever want to use.

I guess that's why this KONOR thread has become so big, it's a popular name and people have an opinion on it.

Oh i so don't really want to post this, as it will keep it going, but i've writen it, now i'm with myself

meandmyflyingmachine · 08/07/2007 13:41

Most names go in fashion cycles.

Take Molly, or Daisy, or Charlie, or Jake. None in my class, several of each in ds's.

All 'real names' for sure, but pretty subject to fashion I reckon.

According to the Times, the average age for someone with my dd's name is 56, which means it is probably ripe for a surge in fashionability. Which will piss me off if it happens.

I have to spell my surname every time. And all the other members of my family have to spell their first names (even though they are common names). None of us have ever been remotely put out by it.
