Hiya peeps,

DP and I have once again had a discussion over spelling of LO's name...when he gets here lol.

We have settled on Konor Michal, Konor is my way of spelling it but dp says if it being spelt with a K then we should spell it Konnor, I say Konor.

Michal he won't even attempt to judge me on as it was my dads name....pronounced Mehal it is Polish.

Which way would you choose? I prefer Konor and dp Konnor...

Says more about the parents' intelligence than the kids'

Ceolas · 07/07/2007 21:56

And for the most part, it's actually pretty spot on in practice.

MrsBadger · 07/07/2007 21:56

muppet, to be perfectly blunt:

she wasn't suggesting that naming your kid something stupid will make them turn out thick

but rather that people who aren't too bright themselves and hence have less-than-bright kids and more likely to name them something stupid.

SquirdleAKACandDsmummy · 07/07/2007 21:57

Twiglett, I have done the smae with many a name.

muppetgirl · 07/07/2007 21:57

I read an article/heard on the radio (probably radio 4 as that's what I listen to)
that children with unusual names tend to suceed as they get noticed by their names...

ConersMum · 07/07/2007 21:57
Hmm
SquirdleAKACandDsmummy · 07/07/2007 21:58

'same'

Twiglett · 07/07/2007 21:58

SNORT

oh please stop my sides are hurting

Ceolas · 07/07/2007 21:59

OK unusual real names like Wilbur or Anastasia.

But not made up unusual.

moondog · 07/07/2007 22:00

LOL LOL

Twiglett · 07/07/2007 22:00

Coneheads

sparklygothkat · 07/07/2007 22:01

lol

MamaMaiasaura · 07/07/2007 22:03

Personally I prefer the look of Konnor but that is because I havent seen the name Konor. I actually quite like the name itself and I dont think it is hugely important how you spell it. Both ways are phonetically correct as is the way with C.

It is a popular name so by spelling it a little differently is quite nice too. Have you tried wrting it out to see how it looks handwritten.

I also like Michal, are you going to pronounce it Mehal?

Also Konor rhyme nicely with Honour which is a lovely word imo

Also a name grows with a child.

Wishing you a very healthy and happy pregnancy.

sparklygothkat · 07/07/2007 22:03

I second the 'please stop' my pelvis floor is about to give way...

MamaMaiasaura · 07/07/2007 22:04

just scrolled and am [shocked] at the amount of unkind comments on here!! Bit unessecary and a bit tight. Reminds me of the bitching that would go on at school.

MrsFish · 07/07/2007 22:06

Its easy to be bitchy sat behind a keyboard anonymously.

TheLadyEvenstar · 07/07/2007 22:07

Awen, thanks. I think it looks nice, I have written it many times just to see what I thought and double check and I still like it as does DP

oh come on,no one has been that rude.people have been far ruder before now.i think people are just been honest.the baby is not even born yet which makes it easier to give advice if you feel the op is making a mistake.if she was posting this in birth announcements,no one would say anything,i'm sure

SquirdleAKACandDsmummy · 07/07/2007 22:08

Hmmm some people are being a bit unkind now. Some people may have little ones spelt Coner etc. I'm getting used to Konnor now as I have seen it so much on here.

j20baby · 07/07/2007 22:10

how does Koner rhyme with boner?

Pollyanna · 07/07/2007 22:10

Is the OP Vaunda?

TaylorsMummy · 07/07/2007 22:11

Koner - konehead
Boner - bonehead

it rhymes!!

Twiglett · 07/07/2007 22:11

some people

you mean sparklykat and me?

I suppose we can blame the British education system (oh and the US education system) failing generations of children in teaching them the rudiments of pronounciation .. basic spelling rules

sparklygothkat · 07/07/2007 22:11

have to say, although I think Konnor looks wrong (might be because I am used to Connor) seeing it all day, I ma getting used to it. But defo. with 2 N's not 1.

MamaMaiasaura · 07/07/2007 22:12

IMO I think it is ok to say you dont like a name but to get down to school girl bitchy comments is a step too far. Theladyeveningstar is a regular poster, not a troll trying to gauge a reaction. She isnt saying anything inflammatory. I dont think she minds people saying that they prefer her dp's spelling or even that they dont like etiehr. I think the bitchy comments, name changing links etc is childish and rude.
