I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hello, everyone, back from the funeral. Not jolly, but at least at this wake people were offered alcohol - it was tea or coffee at the last one.
Blondeshavemorefun Thank so much for taking over the thread while I have been away. You are always so fun and reassuring. So daughter is seventeen months - that's amazing.
Lucybex Oh dear about forcing yourself into work and fainting. I am glad that made your point, though. Everyone saw how ill you are. I am glad you are getting fluids. I so agree with Ttc it is insane, the way they gauge dehydration mainly by ketones in hospitals, when they seem to be more effective as a sign of starvation. I think some people produce them easily and some not, too - I did an experiment on myself when I had a bad migraine with repeated puking - I had ketones of 3+ in twelve hours (obviously as I wasn't pregnant it wasn't serious), and I don't see how starvation coul have kicked in, but who knows.
Bailey8 It is very discouraging to be at the beginning of this horror. The first bit is the worst, things do get a lot better for almost everyone, even the unlucky ones who suffer throughout, or who, like Blondeshavemorefun have it go away and then come back again don't usually feel as bad as they did in the first bit.
Hotchocolate I am sorry that you feel bad again and can't up the dose of meds. The only comfort is that you are on the home run.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

I'm obvs not suffering as much as you have hotchoc, but if it's a little consolation I too have had an increase in symptoms again end of this week (after initial.improvement back on meds).
I've felt really grim some days. With bits of food aversion and scrolling sea sickness creeping back in.
Main problem has been fluids.
I've been really thirsty but no inclination to drink.
Yesterday I managed about 500mls by the time I went to bed. Today I have done better at around 800 so far.

Hope you feeling a bit better again soon

I have to say it feels pretty odd to suddenly be 34 weeks!

Bailey8 · 25/08/2018 20:06

TTC2017 - I’m also getting similar cramps on the Ondansetron. I only started it this morning and had awful stomach pains all afternoon. Hoping it eases as so far it is reducing the sickness

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/08/2018 23:48

I love the fact you still use my pic of the castle in the sky x

Ttc2017 · 26/08/2018 18:11

I have dropped my meds down again and stomach cramps have eased a bit not quite as often and slightly less painful sounds pathetic but I'm so proud I managed to cook and eat a healthy dinner tonight and body feels so much better for it please say this is the turning point for me fingers crossed! Been eating so much crap giving in to cravings and trying to keep sickness away my poor body needed veg lol I'm sorry to hear about those of you near the end who it is coming back for.. Those at the beginning I was in your shoes a few weeks ago and although I still feel ill and spend most of day hiding in my house I am not the drooling spewing ghostly looking bent over mess that I was back then 14 weeks now and praying it carrys on easing off still gagging randomly which my kids find hilarious as it's normally at inappropriate times I couldn't even swallow water a few weeks ago sipping apple juice a few times a day was it but now I can tolerate water I'm drinkin as much as I can which is probably helping me feel a bit better to. Still very tired and drained though is this normal or is this the meds causing no energy I'm normally hundred miles an hour go go go hope you are all enjoying your bank holiday as much as is possible x

Olivecake · 26/08/2018 18:56

Sorry to hear about another loss and funeral Lucinda Flowers

Ttc reading your message makes me so happy to hear that you’ve been able to eat a little and drink water!! Even though it’s a slow path to getting better, that must make you feel so much better.

I’ve been having a really good few days and haven’t actually thrown up for 3 days now but I am still terrified to try drinking water in case it sets me off again - I even had a dream about a big icy glass of water!!

To those of you who are now either recovered or not suffering so badly, how long did it take you to start eating and drinking properly again? I thought about a jacket potato and my boyfriend cooked it and then threw up before I even tried to eat it, just through anxiety I think. Getting to the stage where I’m not sure what is hyperemesis and what is just psychological now.

SeaEagleFeather · 26/08/2018 19:29

ttc HG really really takes it out of your body so you do feel tired and drained, and that's on top of the demands of pregnancy!

there will be good days and bad as the hormones wriggle around, but it does sound like you've started to turn the corner =)

take it as easy as you can, it will take a while to regain a bit of normality and the easier you take it, the quicker you'll feel better

Ttc2017 · 26/08/2018 20:06

It's interesting you saying about psychological affect as I feel the same often wonder what is hg and what is anxiety I now have a fear of being sick and a fear of seeing my friends incase they expect to much of me eg the old me I know it's silly but I know what u mean and if I think of certain foods it can make me sick smelling bbqs is still a bad one for me as I had to do a bbq for my sons birthday when I was ill at the beginning so will never eat bbq food again lol think I've become a bit worried to go out to much to hide away in my home and my bed is safe lol x

AleenaM · 26/08/2018 20:48

Hope everyone is coping well. Flowers

I too sometimes wonder where the line is between sickness and anxiety that something is going to make me sick, especially foods that have made me sick before, I def have an aversion for. I have had guests over the weekend and weirdly, keeping busy, going out to sightsee etc works very well for feeling okish. Also eating out (aka food gets brought to you) works better than at home when just opening the fridge I get hit with smells and nearly faint.
I have been taking Ondansetron and an antibiotic for a suspected UIT so not too sure which one the cramps are from, but I did stop Friday with the AB so maybe it is the Ondansetron? Also if I retch or vomit, it’s quite painful for my stomach (more so than before Ondansetron)

@LucindaE, my Boots had glycerol suppositories on the shelf, just picked it up and paid at a regular counter, no Qs. I have also picked up DulcoEase, it’s a stool softener but pills form as Lactulose makes me sick/bigger volume needed. Currently trying 2 x a day.

LucindaE · 26/08/2018 21:04

Blondeshavemorefun I still use the Pink Castle you located indeed! To me it is a sign of hope. Lots of people on this thread now won't know what it indicates. When I was little we had a Snakes and Ladders board game. On the last square was a magical pink castle in the clouds. It occured to me that Hyperemesis was like a dismal board game - drink a glass of water, up a ladder, morning bile run, down a long snake - that I thought of an imaginary Pink Castle at the end of the Hyperemesis horror game, and Blondes found an image which I have since used.
Ttc and bailey I hadn't heard of these nasty cramps being set off by Ondansetron - only with constipation induced by it, and it surely must take a couple of days to get cramps from that. I had weird cramps for no apparent reason in early pregnacy, which made me nervous about aother mc, but I don't know what it was.
Ttc and Olivecake Congratulations on good day(s). They are often the sign of many more to come. As SeaEagleFeather says, it takes a long time to recover from the debiliatating effects of Hyperemesis. That isn't surprising; only think how bad you feel after a violent stomach bug, and that only usually lasts a few days.
Foodylicious and Hotchocolate I do feel for you, suffering again at the end. It isn't fair! Sad
Waves to all. Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Cautiously edging back on. Was here last July/August but then had a mmc at 13/40.
If this is still progressing will be 7/40 on weds. Feeling bloody lousy. Vomiting has started last 72hrs, prior to that was just nausea and lack of appetite.
Husband being less than sympathetic. I’m trying to rest all weekend as tomorrow I have our 6 year old for the day then supposed to be back at work on weds (though anxious about how I will cope) and scan on Thursday (had a bleed 2 weeks ago and last week too early to def see a hb to check all was ok).
Restarted the cyclizine today. Forgot how drowsy it makes me feel, but don’t want ondansetron yet as bowels already sluggish from the ivf drugs.

Bailey8 · 27/08/2018 16:48

TTC2017 glad you’ve been able to eat, hopefully it is the turning point for you now and it will continue

Olivecake - with my other pregnancies I was very up and down with food once the sickness passed, and I think some of it was just where I’d been put off certain foods

Aleena- well done for managing with guests! Sometimes the distraction does help

Lucinda I was wondering what the castle was all about, makes perfect sense now!

Beanhunter hope the next scan goes well, everything crossed for you

I’m not managing to take the Ondansetron, didn’t take it at all yesterday, but gave in this morning and instantly got awful cramps again, just doesn’t seem to agree with me at all. I haven’t managed to leave my bed all weekend as I just couldn’t constantly feel on the verge of being sick and mornings are just constant sickness. Taking cyclizine again as atleast it makes me sleepy and I can get through part of the day having a nap

Ttc2017 · 27/08/2018 18:26

Bailey I hope you feel better soon or can at least sleep some of it off until recently I was trying to sleep in until 10/11 to try sleep the day away as it was so unbearable counting down the hours of the day I too have stopped the ondansetron well so far today except for first thing but going to try keep off it as constipation has become unbearable sorry tmi stomach is huge and swollen cramps horrible though not so bad but stomach just feels awful and lactose is helping but not enough at mo.

Bean hunter I'm so sorry for your loss and wishing you the best of luck with this pregnancy I guess it is a good sign that you are feeling rough in that sense x

LucindaE · 27/08/2018 21:13

beanhunter Welcome back. Sorry about your loss, and congratulations on your pregnancy. It's a shame you are getting Hyperemesis again and that OH is less than sympathetic. I didn't know IVF makes bowels seize up; that's nasty. At least the sleepiness most sufferers get with cyclizine wears off a lot after a while. Did you find an anti acid helpful before? As you are a veteran, you don't need my spiel about kesostix and flat full sugar coke, ice lollies and the juice of tinned fruit.
Bailey8 I am glad the Pink Castle metaphor and image makes sense now! You will all go over its drawbridge in due course.
Ttc I am sorry Ondansetron is no use. Those cramps sound awful. Did the surgery have anything to say about them? Never worry abot tmi on here. All sorts of horrors are discussed; vomiting foam and imacted bowels included. I know a former sufferer who got an apparatus online to rinse out the bowels, but people don't like to do that in pregnancy except as a last resort. Alleena remarked that she managed to get the glycerine suppositories despite being pregnant, which is interesting as pharmacists usually object. Might you b e able to try those? Fibregel is very effective if you can keep it down.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Bled torrentially overnight. Waiting for epau to open. Passed something massive though so sure it’s over. Should have never posted here.

Hotchocolate86 · 28/08/2018 07:21

Oh beanhunter I’m so sorry. Please don’t feel you’ve jinxed yourself by posting here. You really haven’t. I hope the EPAU can see you so you get answers quickly.
foody how rubbish that you have noticed a step up in symptoms too. I hope it doesn’t get too bad for you. I agree it’s so strange to be at 34 weeks. It’s been such a long slog but there really isn’t too much longer to go. I have an ELCS date so a definite end point in sight. Unless it’s delayed for some reason. I’m not sure if they can do that but I guess they can if they get lots of emergencies.
I am most impressed you managed to cope with guests aleena. You must be very brave!

Olivecake · 28/08/2018 10:51

Oh no beanhunter So sorry to hear that, I hope EPAU are responsive and can see you quickly. Fingers crossed it’s not the worst. As Hotchoc said, please please don’t blame yourself or think you somehow jinxed it by posting, it’s just one of those unfortunate coincidences x

beanhunter · 28/08/2018 12:52

It’s still there somehow with a heartbeat. No guarantees though.
Measures 6+4 vs the +6 I should be.
Small SCH but they aren’t sure why I bled so much.

TwoDrifters · 28/08/2018 13:43

That’s great news beanhunter I’m so happy for you.

Hotchocolate86 · 28/08/2018 14:19

That’s great news beanhunter Have they offered you another scan in a week or two to see how things are going?

Ttc2017 · 28/08/2018 15:22

That's fab news beanhunter a tough little bean! X

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/08/2018 15:57
