I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

@Boredoftryingusernames sorry for the delay and thank you so much for your kind reply. It was actually really comforting coming from someone who knows how it feels (although I obviously don't have HG). I'm 8 weeks on Wednesday so still have a way to go before I could even reasonably expect to feel much better. I have actually managed to eat something other than toast and banana over the last 24 hours and feel better for it I think. It just seems to come and go in it's severity. Tending to find I feel best first thing and then worse towards the end of the day. I will give the sickness support line a call tomorrow and go from there. I so appreciate your advice. You are completely right about it only being the woman who can totally understand what it is like - my husband has actually been lovely but it can still feel very isolating. Especially when you aren't even seeing your friends. Our house is going on the market this week so that may be the decider on taking medication - keeping it all tidy, viewings etc will be challenging!

Picklesandpies · 26/06/2018 18:31

@booandbumpp I am honestly hating the heat. I found it unbearable today on the five minute walk up to school. Taking ice water with me if I have to go out and the fan is on max all night in the bedroom blowing directly into my face!

Boredoftryingusernames · 27/06/2018 08:17

Totally agree about the heat....I'm not great in it anyway and tend to feel a bit nauseous and not like eating so definitely hasn't been the best few days! My husband bought our toddler a huge paddling pool yesterday so I spent lots of the afternoon in that. Even kind of looking forward to work tomorrow as there is air con!

Picklesandpies no need to apologise! Glad you have managed to eat a bit, I think it definitely helps if there is a part of the day when you feel a bit better so you can get some food into you then - helps prevent develping the awful ketones. Good luck with the house viewings - unfortunate timing!

Hope everyone else is doing ok and surviving the heat....

Yarnswift · 27/06/2018 11:31

Hello! Checking back in (have re registered after InternGate)

I’m now 31 weeks and the sickness is starting to ramp up again. I remember this from last time but it’s feeling hard to cope with especially with the heat :(

Just wanted a moan really - on mat leave now finally so at least I can rest!

SeaEagleFeather · 27/06/2018 13:17

Hallo :) I promised to try to look into the thread but havent been able to til now.

I survived two HG pregnancies - by week 6 of the second preg I was begging for sterilization! - but it was all worth it because I have two lovely boys now.

pickles there are no trials of promethazine, but it's the big sister of cyclizine which is similar to Doxylamine, which is a gold-standard anti-sickness med in the USA (FDA category A). There are also risks associated with not getting enough liquid in! No one wants to take meds in pregnancy but sometimes it's the better of the two options ...

The PregSicknessSupport line is just brilliant. I don't know if the old doctor is still there but he was fab when I was at my lowest. He was even willing to prescribe ondansetron over the phone to me, which I will be forever grateful for. He's actually collaberated on papers about HG with some of the professors in the field.

yam those last weeks and the returning sickness are hard going aren't they. It's never quite as bad as in the early days but all the same, it's horrid!

Hoping everyone has an endurable afternoon and evening ... sending good wishes

somethingfromnothing · 27/06/2018 14:29

Hello all. I’m 6+5 and have a 5 year old already. Have had multiple mc in between. When I was pregnant with dd I was sick from 8 weeks until 22 weeks. I just sort of muddled through as I have a stemitil allergy and gp wasn’t very helpful.

I have been getting terrible nausea for past week but not throwing up much yet. Gp has prescribed cyclizine. Does everyone get the extreme tiredness that I’ve been warned about when they take it? If I take it now will it mean I might not start being sick as badly?

SeaEagleFeather · 27/06/2018 14:39

Not everyone, no, something. Lots of people are okay with it.

it's a really good idea to start it early as you can because there's some evidence that if you begin meds early and they work for you, then the worst of the sickness can be avoided.

Boredoftryingusernames · 27/06/2018 15:41

Something I didn't find cyclizine made me that tired (unlike promethazine, another antihistamine). It didn't work that well for me, but some people on here have felt much better on it. Agree with the above - the sooner you take it the better. For those that do feel tired on it at first, most seem to say that side effect wears off quite quickly.

Picklesandpies · 27/06/2018 16:10

Wow, that doctor sounds wonderful @SeaEagleFeather. Thanks for all the info - I am going to call them tomorrow and see whether that reduces my/my husband's concerns.

somethingfromnothing · 27/06/2018 16:53

That’s great seaEagle thanks! We are away on holiday soon so hopefully this will mean that I can survive center

somethingfromnothing · 27/06/2018 16:54

Posted too soon should say Center parcs Smile

Foodylicious · 27/06/2018 17:43

Phew, this heat is something else!
Had MW appt on Monday (am 25 weeks)
All good and have heard back from mental health MW too so all Feeling more manageable.
Had bloods done to check for aenemic due to exhaustion and breathlessness.

Got a call today to say I am a bit aenemic so have a prescription to pick up.

Been struggling to stand still without back pain or dizziness/breathlessness and feel like it's a bit early to feel this pants.
Last few mornings I am alright first thing, but about 10 mins after getting up I have to lie down again for feeling breathless, dizzy and sick.

Have worked out all my AL before MAT leave and I now finish at 33 weeks!
Last day at work 17th August Grin

Foodylicious · 27/06/2018 17:45

And just had sausage rolls in sandwiches for tea.
Mmm, all the carbs

Hotchocolate86 · 27/06/2018 17:50

foody I’m glad to hear you are finishing early.
something I didn’t get the exhaustion from cyclizine. It wasn’t the best medication on its own for me but works well alongside ondansetron.
I am feeling a bit rough these last couple of days. I suspect it’s down to the heat. I’m queasy and can barely keep my eyes open half the day. Thankfully still keeping the vomiting to a minimum though.

Troika · 27/06/2018 17:58

Pickles it took me being admitted and the midwife spelling out to dp just how ill and dehydrated I was for him to start to understand. They were really good at going over the medication with him and he left feeling happy for me to take it whereas before that he’d been adamant he didn’t want me to take anything that wasn’t proven safe to the baby. I’m on cyclizine and although it hasn’t stopped the nausea it has helped with most of the vomiting.

Had my 12 week scan today and saw a wriggly little baby Grin So nice to see after the 2 mmcs

Picklesandpies · 27/06/2018 18:13

@Troika thanks for your reply. That sounds awful. I'm glad you are managing to avoid too much actual vomiting and you had a lovely scan - seems so surreal doesn't it! I had a mc in April and I have a scan booked for Sunday at the Birth Centre in London (anyone been?) I had one a week ago which wasn't planned and totally spur of the moment (I felt so awful I just needed to know it was for a good reason.) Not sure whether to go to planned one on Sunday. Is it bad for the baby to have two close together like that?

Sickness wise I am struggling to know what to do as it really does vary. I either feel pretty ok or really awful. For example I was ok until a few hours ago and now yawning is making me retch, opening our pantry or the fridge is making me retch... Not vomiting much at all and generally feel better than I did but it can just strike and is rather unpredictable. Meant to be going to theatre this weekend and I'm really anxious about being in the middle of a row with no way out. I'll just have to take bags...!

Congratulations on your scan Smile

SeaEagleFeather · 27/06/2018 21:10

pickles might it be possible to ring up the theatre, explain the circumstances and ask if you could go in an end seat or even one of the designated accessible ones, if they're free? When you're this sick sometimes people are happy to make adjustments

Picklesandpies · 28/06/2018 00:20

That's a really good idea, thank you! I'll do that. Had a fairly grim afternoon and evening with vomiting. Can't wait for this bit to be over - only 8 weeks today but it feels as though it's been months already. Know I shouldn't wish it away but bleugh... Confused

Boredoftryingusernames · 29/06/2018 21:49

Foody glad you are finishing early, I am finishing at 33 weeks too, can't wait. Hope the iron makes you feel better too.

Hope everyone else is coping ok!

ohiwa · 29/06/2018 22:14

Hi everyone, just checking in - it's been quite a while. I'm 34 weeks now, just finished work yesterday! Have so much to do to get ready for baby over the next few weeks.
I'm still nauseous on and off but only vomit occasionally. An still taking doxylamine though as I can't face a day if vomiting which I seem to have every time I try to stop.
I have very very low iron so the iron tablets are causing a bit of havoc with my digestion and prob not helping the nausea.
Thinking of you all in the heat. I'm in NZ and we have the opposite problem just now, my bumps keeping pretty warm though

LucindaE · 30/06/2018 10:15

Hello, everyone, back from windy Kent! I am sure most on here are thinking longingly of a sea breeze, my goodness, it has been so hot.
I will catch up with the thread today. Thank you so much to Bored SeaEagleFeathers and all those who have been giving such invaluable support. I will read through to catch up with the thread today. Welcome to the new people. It will pass and you will be yourself again!

troika glad to hear your scan went well. It’s lovely to see your baby and know that all the suffering will be worth it in the end.
pickles how are you feeling now?
I have come home from work today as I am having a relapse I think. Lots of dry heaving and retching. It took 15 minutes to do a 5 minutes walk to work this morning because I kept having to stop to retch. I thought I would be sick at the side of the road. Oh the glamour. I feel guilty for leaving my colleagues in the lurch though on a busy Saturday.
How is everyone else feeling? It’s really warm here already.

Hotchocolate86 · 30/06/2018 10:16

Crossposted lucinda. Did you have a nice break?

Foodylicious · 30/06/2018 10:31

Oh no hotchoc that's rubbish!
If it helps I've been much more nauseous these last few days . Not quite so bad as you though Sad
Fx it's just a short term hormonal surge.

Hotchocolate86 · 30/06/2018 11:29

I really hope so foody. I did wonder if it’s partly down to the heat. I feel okish now I am sat down at home not doing anything. Still very queasy but thankfully not so much heaving. I’m sorry to hear you are feeling poorly too. HG really is a nightmare.
