I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I’ve got another scan in just over a week due to previous mc. Felt pretty sick this am but had ondansetron while at epau and have managed to eat lunch. Had forgotten how much better a drug it is for me than cyclizine.

LucindaE · 28/08/2018 20:42

beanhunter What a dreadful scare! I am sorry to hear of such a horrible experience. Do keep us informed how things are going. It was a nasty co-incidence that you bled after posting Sad.
Blondeshavemorefun You are so right. Why doesn't thickhead Mother Hen have an explanation for the Pink Castle there indeed?
I hope everyone is coping today.

Olivecake · 28/08/2018 20:54

beanhunter did they also give you a prescription or some ondansetron to go home with? If it’s what works best for you, it can make such a difference to the whole HG experience. Glad to hear you have another early scan soon - I also had several early scans due to previous miscarriage and it really helped me to get through each day counting down to the mini mile stones!

Lucinda my due date is 23 Jan if you’d like to add it for the next roundup. Almost half way now! :)

beanhunter · 29/08/2018 09:33

I’ve alrwady got some from my pregnancy last year which would get me through to next week.
Laxative advice ladies? I can’t stomach lactulose so wanted something that’s a tablet but not too strong as scared of upsetting the bleeding again. Any recommendations?

Ttc2017 · 29/08/2018 11:35

Just been sicker then ever so need to go back on the ondasetron so I too am looking for advice on laxatives when lactose not doing enough sorry tmi again but had bleeding like a river from constipation and the pain in my stomach is so uncomfortable x

Foodylicious · 29/08/2018 12:10

This is a good link re constipation and treatments in pregnancy

www.medicinesinpregnancy.org/Templates/Pages/BumpsPIL.aspx?id=97686&epslanguage=en&print=y

Foodylicious · 29/08/2018 12:14

However, stool softener are generally recommended as opposed to stimulants I seem to remember

Most take a couple of dsys to start working properly.

I am taking a fair bit of lactulose so my next step would probably be laxido but I would give my MW a quick call or text to check

beanhunter · 29/08/2018 12:20

Thanks I had a chat with the pharmacist and whilst she said she couldn’t technically recommend any she suggested docusate sodium so I’ve got some to try.

LucindaE · 29/08/2018 19:29

Foodylicious That's a really good link with great and reassuirng advice. I must save that for the introductory post , besides an explanation of The Pink Castle at the end of the Hyperemesis horror run.
beanhunter I hope all is well. Great advice from Foodylicious and others.
ttc Never worry about tmi on here. Ondansetron is a menace for tied up bowels, an d I never understand why doctors don't routinely write a prescription for constipation at the same time.
'Laxido' sounds like what they called the diahorrea in Portugal when I had the misfortune to get salmonella there. 'Liquido'!

Giving this a bump as still massively struggling at 14 weeks.

Just woken up to go throw up the little bit of dinner I had. Sickness tablets do mean I can keep fluid down now but I'm just really fed up.

To top it off i'm getting consistent pain in my hips and struggle to get off the floor after picking my toddlers up. Feel really guilty about complaining in real life.

In other news baby was measuring 13 weeks at 12 week scan but I know my dates are correct so am thinking maybe I'm just carrying a whoppa this time.

Boredoftryingusernames · 31/08/2018 11:55

Hi everyone! Have been following the thread but not posted the last few weeks, was getting near the end of the pregnancy and feeling pretty rubbish again. HOWEVER.....posting to say our little girl arrived last night (in a real hurry - active labour 33mins!) and she is just perfect. Instantly making all those awful months more than worth it! Keep battling everyone, you will get there and it will be so worth it in the end. Still feeling mildly queasy but much better, and hoping that is just birth after effects more than anything else.
Huge thanks to other posters and especially Lucinda for helping me through some dark months, will check in for more baby news in the months ahead Smile

Ooh! Massive congratulations Boredoftryingusernames
Such a lovely bundle of gorgeousness
Hope you are eating plenty of Cake

Foodylicious · 31/08/2018 12:21

LouHotel this but is truly rubbish Sad

Can you go back to your docs and discuss upping or changing your meds?
Are you off work?

And as Lucinda would say, are you taking an antacid? I found Ranitidine made soo much difference

Hotchocolate86 · 31/08/2018 12:29

Ooh congratulations bored. She is gorgeous and what a quick labour. I hope you feel much better soon.
It’s a really tough bit of pregnancy where you are louhotel but lots of people start noticing an improvement around now. Fingers crossed you will too. What meds are you on at the moment?

SeaEagleFeather · 31/08/2018 12:53

congratulations bored, she's beautiful!

Olivecake · 31/08/2018 13:52

Oh my goodness Boredoftryingusernames she is so beautiful and precious! Huge congratulations!! And Thanks for reminding us of why we are doing this, really needed that today.

LouHotel so sorry to hear you’re feeling so rough - 14 weeks was awful for me too especially as I was really hoping to feel better by then like people kept telling me
I would! I second everyone else’s advice to check if there’s other meds or a combination you can take, and antacid. I’m now 19 weeks and have been gradually starting to feel much better, but I definitely still have my ups and downs and was so upset to throw up this morning after some much brighter days. It really comes and goes but soon the better days will outnumber the worse ones. Great that you’re growing a nice big healthy baby though! Makes it all feel so worthwhile.

LucindaE · 31/08/2018 18:06

Louhotel Welcome. That sounds like spd, the hip pain, to which women with Hyperemesis are prone, on top of other woes. It can mean an easy birth at least. Sorry you feel so foul. Most people get an improvement between 14-21 weeks. Even those who are unlucky enough to suffer throughout, very rarely feel as bad as in the first weeks.
You have already have great advice about meds and anti acid. Some drinks and foods of a sort that have helped people on here. Full sugar flat coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, soda water, the juiceof tinned fruit, Dr Pepper, Elderflower water, lemonade, fizzy orange, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), Lucozade, sips of chocolate milkshake and Robinson's fruit drinks. Those foods of a sort: cuppa soup, baked potatoes, cheap ice cream, tinned fruit, slices of melon and mango, Scotch pancakes, biscuits and nibbles of crisps and chips.
Boredoftryingusernames What a lovey baby! And what a lovely labour! Smile [gloers] Star. I am so glad that this thread helped in your darkest days. Hopefully the nausea will tail off. If not, it may be breast feeding related, and will go when you stop breastfeeding. I only breast fed up to five months because I had that nausea. It's very rare to have sickness after the birth - only about six or seven including me from years before, and also SeaEagleFeather have had it on these threads in over eight years, but it does happen to some through the breast feeding letdown hormones.
Olivecake Good advice from you, Foodylicious and Hotchocolate and SeaEagleFeather. I hope beanhunter and everyone is doing OK.

I just realised today is Friday and I was supposed to collect my prescription today, they are now closed and don’t open at all during the weekend. I have two pills left and usually take two a day, do you think it’s best to take one each day or take them both in one day and try one day without anything?

No other options to collect them elsewhere as the prescription goes direct from my doctors to the pharmacy and both closed all weekend :(

SeaEagleFeather · 31/08/2018 18:31

I suspect one each day olive (unless a trained pharmacist or doctor or nurse is around to give better advice!).

At a guess, if you space them out then you'll have lower levels in your system but the levels won't vary as much as if you took two, then none. If I recall correctly ondansetron doesn't stay that long in the system anyway actually, but even so I suspect it's better to have lower but steady levels than to fluctuate wildly.

Personally I'd cut them in half and take one half every 12 hours actually.

Olivecake · 31/08/2018 18:54

Cutting them in half is a great idea, thanks SeaEagle - i am most worried about how my body will react to withdrawal so that makes the most sense. I’m just so annoyed at myself for realising about 10 minutes too late!

SeaEagleFeather · 31/08/2018 19:18

could you even ring your EPU to see if you could get an emergency prescription?

Olivecake · 31/08/2018 20:24

I did think about that too as they did give me an emergency prescription when my doctor was on holiday (local surgery so small it closes when he’s not there!) - only problem is getting there so think I will ask my boyfriend In the morning if he can go as I’m not really feeling well enough to drive. Either way I’m sure it will work out and I will survive the weekend!

Hope everyone else is feeling ok today

beanhunter · 01/09/2018 10:16

Feel rubbish today. Not even able to get out of bed without feeling like I’m going to vomit. Waiting for ondansetron to kick in so I can at least drink. Was hoping this wouldn’t be so bad this time as with my daughter I was ok but this is just like with last years miscarriage.

LucindaE · 01/09/2018 18:41

beanhunter Sorry you feel so rubbishy. It is very hard at the worst stage.
Olivecake That must be a tiny practice - but a great idea from SeaEagleFeather. Well, now its September, so I suppose that long hot summer is well and truly over, which can only be a relief for sufferers on here.
