It was super cheap rather than organised. I knew I'd kick myself in 6 months having to spend £5/6/700 on a pram when there was a great one on offer for £250.

InDreamland · 27/06/2018 14:34

Guilty! Re the branded stuff. I'm a sucker for brands when it comes to certain things - accessories I have to have a brand (pls don't judge, I just can't helo myself) but clothes and food, not bothered. Food wise must be free range meat and eggs but otherwise just good quality which doesn't mean branded. Clothes as long as I like the item I couldn't care less about brands. So unfortunately for me the pram/pushchair/travel system /buggy or whatever else they're called these days is an accessory ...........brand name here I come Blush car seat I just want whatever is safest and practical but no idea where to start - my SIL has a swivelling one for hers which looks handy for getting baby in and out without doing your back in.

@sexnotgender wow! So I now wanna know what was the super deal Wink

I like some branded things but I am also a bit of a bargain hunter (as you are finding deals like that on a pram). Even today I noticed the huge difference in the price of baby milk brands when surely they all contain the same things that baby would need? I think I am analysing too much lol.

InDreamland · 27/06/2018 14:41

@ComtessadeLamcret I decided I didn't want to do the FB announcement. We did it when we got engaged and of course wedding day splashed all over it too but for some reason I want our first pregnancy and baby to be a more private affair. DH asked me if I was putting it on FB after our 12 week scan but I said about wanting to just tell those i want to know when I see them or will phone/text them - I just wanna share with those I am closest to. Maybe week or two after baby i born I'll pop it on FB. so don't feel like you have to do the big social media annoucement.

@purplesmiler I don't think you're overanalysing, just being sensible. I love a bargain too so will be looking out for deals on a pram thingy.

I really wanna know what the deal was on the pram now. £250 sounds good .......is it something we could all get?

Branded baby stuff is so expensive! My SIL was going on about a Bugaboo that cost £1000... it was on sale recently for 'only £700!'. Anyone else getting a lot of opinions from family/in-laws? I don't want a Moses basket and I'm not fussed on good quality, well looked after second hand items, but apparently I'm wrong, according to MIL/SIL Hmm. I know they mean well, but I don't have a bottomless bank account!

Jigglyjugs · 27/06/2018 14:46

*I'm not fussed if I have

InDreamland · 27/06/2018 14:50

I wondered whether we really need a moses basket if we have a carry cot.

As this is our first I would like to get new stuff - taken us 5 years to get pregnant so want to have some nice new things. So far not had opinions but that's because only my parents and my sister and her husband know so limited number of people really and my sister hasn't a clue about anything to do with babies and my parents won't interfere as they're not like that. Will wait until after I've told a few people and then news spreads .......

OP posts:
InDreamland · 27/06/2018 14:52

All that said, if my SIL offers any of her things I'll probably accept most as I know where they've come from.

OP posts:
purplesmiler · 27/06/2018 14:58

My sister had a moses basket but her little one wasnt in it for more than 2 weeks as he was a long baby, she ended up having to buy a small cot (as she had already bought the cot bed) for their bedroom.

Jigglyjugs · 27/06/2018 15:05

@indreamland exactly, I have a few friends with babies plus my brother has a 9 month old and he and his wife are happy to give us bits, so I feel the same, if it's used but from a home I know, then great! I'd obviously buy new matress/bedding and car seat, just to be on the safe side!

@purplesmiler, most of my baby friends/aquaintences have said similar things about a Moses basket! I just feel like the money could go toward something else instead, plus I have a cat who is very fond of little cosy spaces and I just know if worry! At least with a cot I can get some kind of net or something.

WhirlingTurkey · 27/06/2018 15:07

Moses baskets are pointless in my experience. We just planned to use the carrycot from the pram for daytime sleeps. How naive I was - baby only slept on me during the day for the first six months. Haha!

sexnotgender · 27/06/2018 15:08

@indreamland I bought this www.cosatto.com/shop/last-chance-to-buy/travel-systems/modhero/saigon

It gets great reviews online.

The same one is also available in more pink colours but as I have no idea what I'm having I stuck with neutral.

InDreamland · 27/06/2018 15:09

I've heard similar things about babies not using the Moses basket for more than a few weeks so seems like such a waste of money. That's why I thought I'd save the cash and just use the carry cot from the pram. Agree would buy new bedding and mattresses etc if I had stuff from family but still want a new buggy and car seat as it's just I've always wanted to have them brand new for our first.

InDreamland · 27/06/2018 15:16

@sexnotgender that looks amazing. Tempting but I want to test the prams before I decide which one to buy and also wont be buying anything until October I think as I'm so scared something will be wrong with this pregnancy. Agree the reviews are great though. You'll have to let us know what you think of it when it's delivered.

OP posts:
purplesmiler · 27/06/2018 15:17

I can see why you were drawn to that pram and that price @sexnotgender it is lovely.

Our little bedroom is currently full of boxes and other stuff I haven't sorted since we moved in. I really need to start sorting through it so that it can hopefully be used for a nursery.

sexnotgender · 27/06/2018 15:20

It's been delivered and is residing in my parents garage until we need it.

I know it's stupid and superstitious but I didn't want it at our house.

sexnotgender · 27/06/2018 15:22

I just thought I'd kick myself if I missed it.

I hate spending more than I have to! We've got so many expenses with moving house that I couldn't pass up such a bargain.

purplesmiler · 27/06/2018 15:26

@sexnotgender my mum has always said the same to us re prams. She had my sisters at her house and will probably be the same for us.

InDreamland · 27/06/2018 15:56

Not superstitious......I don't think, but maybe similar thing to why I don't want to buy anything until October.

I also have one of our spare rooms full of stuff from house move and wedding I need to sort out, throw out or get DH to put in the loft. Then it can be baby's bedroom.

OP posts:
cryptonaut · 27/06/2018 16:30

We had already allocated a room as the nursery when we bought our house a few years ago, although we weren't planning on the baby at that point but knew we were going to try at some point. Since we've had to redecorate the whole house it's been the storage room, now the rest of the house is done we can now work on that room, timings worked out well for it :)

I'm also not going to bother with a Moses basket. The baby will have a cot and I managed to find a good quality rocker/swing thing at a car boot for cheap, there's also going to be the car seat and the pram that the baby can sleep/rest in, so many options already that I thought a Moses basket would be unnecessary.

WhirlingTurkey · 27/06/2018 18:45

I'm really not sure what to do about a "nursery" this time. Obviously baby will be in our room for at least six months, but I am presuming once ready he/she will move into DS's room. That seems to be tye norm amongst my friends with more than one child (assuming not a big age gap anyway). Although we have four bedrooms so DC2 could have their own room straight away if we wanted. DS is in a big double bedroom, so plenty of space for two.

purplesmiler · 27/06/2018 19:56

The past two days my hunger has really increased if I don't eat for a couple of hours my tummy is rumbling very loud and makes me feel sick.

Buttercup53 · 27/06/2018 20:06

@purplesmiler I know the feeling - I feel like I have to eat constantly. Weirdly dropped around 10 pounds in the first few weeks after I found out, and despite eating on an hourly basis I’ve put a grand total of 1 pound back on. I look much much bigger than normal though, like I’ve really piled on some weight, but I haven’t. Don’t know if the bump can show from 12 weeks or if I’m just extremely bloated 24/7. My waist line has disappeared and my lower abdomen is rock hard and swollen. I had a look at some maternity clothes with my mum today, we’re going to have to buy some soon because 70% of my wardrobe doesn’t fit anymore, I normally wear very tight fitting clothing.
