Hi there,

Does anyone feel like a chat?

Age: 34
TTC: 11 months
Due: July 2018

I had vivid dreams in the two week wait. Since BFP I've just had mildly sensitive boobs.

My colleague has just announced his wife is pregnant, they've just had their first scan, I can't help but feel he's stolen my thunder a little bit!

Hi all

Found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks ago which was a BIG shock as it was not planned at all. Has taken a while to sink in but I think I am just about getting there. Saw midwife a few weeks ago, there is some confusion about my dates so not totally sure how far gone I am but I think about 10 weeks. Got my first scan on 1st Feb but I'm worried that I may not actually be as far along as I thought and they won't be able to see anything. Fingers crossed they will be able to see something anyway - feel I need reassurance that there is actually a baby in there!

A bit overwhelmed with all the letters I kept getting through. First one was the scan letter which I was obviously expecting. Then got one for an obstetrics appointment on the 16th which I'm guessing is because I have a BMI of 30+ and am therefore in the "high risk" category. The midwife did mention I would have more appointments due to this but the letter wasn't very informative so panicked me a bit.

Got ANOTHER one yesterday for a "health in pregnancy clinic" on 9th Feb. It does have some tick boxes on the back, one of which you can tick if the appointment is not needed. I'm thinking of not actually going to this one if it's not mandatory. I'm guessing they will just say eat healthily, continue to exercise, etc etc etc.... I'm by no means a no it all but surely all that sort of stuff is included in the packs they give you anyway? Not sure I need to attend an appointment to hear the same thing. Did anyone else go to anything like this??

@itallhappensforareason congrats and welcome!!! Ive heard from 5/6 weeks you can see something in a scan it may not be a baby but a sac which is normal so im sure the midwife will see something if not im sure they will bring u back a week or two later you BMI should matter too much it all depends on your health & BP ive a bmi of 40 and my midwife told me i was still a low risk but it may depend on where you are from id ask your midwife next week about the other appointments even just to clarify them for you

LMX0 · 24/01/2018 17:18

Ive just checked over that and released ive mistyped a few things (stupid prego brain lol)
Your BMI SHOULDNT matter

itallhappensforareason · 24/01/2018 17:45

I've got no other health issues at all (as far as I am aware!), it was literally just my BMI that sparked any cause for concern. I think it's just a box ticking exercise really. Hopefully they will only want to see me once and then send me back to be just midwife led when they see everything else is ok!

I think my BP was a little high when the midwife took it but she made no comment on it at all - and having my BP taken always makes me feel nervous! Whenever I've had it before they've always had to do it twice and the second one has always been ok.

LMX0 · 24/01/2018 18:22

Midwife never mentioned anything about my bmi apart from towards the end ill get more scans 28 weeks and 36 weeks as they normally do a tape measurement but because of the extra weight they wont get a accurate reading so just to check babys growth & ill need a sugar test at 28 weeks but apart from that im low risk which was a relief as i was worried too oh and a midwife had tried to ring me about seeing a dietician but she never rang me back so obvs no real biggy

@LMX0 yeah I was told I would have more scans too though the way you have just described it makes much more sense and a lot less scary i.e. in terms of the measurements! Also was told about the glucose test. Guess it's good in a way if we get to see our babbas more :)

@frenchwolf86 thank you for that, it's nice to know others have declined it. I feel a bit naughty for not going especially being my first pregnancy and you obviously want to make sure you are doing everything correctly etc, but tbh I just get the impression I would be patronised. I know what is healthy and what is not - common sense prevails!! I am overweight and I know I am, but I hate BMI too as it's really not accurate. I have a lot of muscle mass (as well as fat lol) due to dancing.

LMX0 · 24/01/2018 19:04

I 100% agree BMI is a load of 💩 everyone has different body shapes and carry weight differently
@itallhappensforareason Thats the way i see it i was kind of miffed that normally you see baby at 20 weeks then birth so im happy enough at getting the extra scans

Noonaylor · 25/01/2018 12:37

Hi all, I had bloods and urines done on my first midwife appointment and she then booked me in for an appointment to have my bloods done to check for down syndrome etc. That appointment will be when I'm 11+4 (5th Feb) do you think she will listen for the babys heat beat? I guess I should have asked at my first appointment but didn't think until now! I do have my 1st scan the following Monday. But would love to hear the heartbeat if possible then to put my mind at ease! Is this something I could request or is it a silly thing to do as I know they can't always hear it.. So I may just worry more!

MegEmski · 25/01/2018 15:18

Hi @Noonaylor - i dont think you can hear it that early. I did not hear it until 16 week appt, and then the midwife said she might not be able to find it.

You will see it in your scan though :)

I am 21 weeks tomorrow - had my 20 week scan on Tuesday. We are having a little girl. Beyond excited!

Feeling lots of movements now as well. All feeling quite real.

@Noonaylor they prob wait until your scan and you may be lucky to hear it then sometimes they can and sometimes they cant must depends on what way baby laying and that but i was able to hear mine at 10+5 no harm in asking??
@MegEmski WOW that has flew in!!! Awww a little girl how wonderful how have you been?

Brettgirl · 25/01/2018 20:52

Hi all! Hope everyone is well? I had my 12 week scan today, I'm exactly 13 weeks, I thought I was 12+6 so that's close enough! It was amazing though, baby really looks like a baby and was bouncing round all over the place in there! Xx

LMX0 · 25/01/2018 21:49

@Brettgirl glad to hear your scan went great

LilyWhit · 26/01/2018 12:54

Congrats @Brettgirl such an amazing feeling isn’t it. Has anyone felt any movement yet? I’m 16 weeks and anxiously waiting for the flutters x

@frenchwolf86 during first trimester i don't think weight loss is anything to worry about, id imagine as your body is working harder its burning off more fat than usual? But thats only my thoughts hopefully someone else can shed a little light......

As we had been saying about the lack of neutral clothes for babies asda have a good range in atm 😊

itallhappensforareason · 29/01/2018 08:20

@frenchwolf86 I am sure it's nothing to worry about. I have read in a few places that pins and needles/tingling in pregnancy is a common symptom, and with the weight loss your body is going through a lot of change at the moment so I wouldn't say it was out of the ordinary or a cause for concern.

itallhappensforareason · 29/01/2018 08:23

Got my scan on Thursday, I'm worried I won't be as far along as I think and there won't be anything to see, as there is some confusion with my dates. I'm having a really hard time coming to terms with the pregnancy (it wasn't planned) so I am really hoping that seeing the scan will make it all seem real and I can start to accept it and actually be happy/excited about it and of course tell our family and friends. Feel awful for feeling this way Sad but I suppose a lot of women must feel the same way.

LMX0 · 29/01/2018 10:12

@itallhappensforareason its normal to feel this way, ive read about women that where trying for babies and when it happened they found it very hard to come to terms with it after all its a massive thing weither u planned it or not so dont beat yourself up to much!! When you have your scan hopefully it wont be out too much and it will make it seem more real when u see your little baby on screen ~massive hugs~
