I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi ladies. I really want to join this thread but all the discussion of sickness makes me feel more nauseous unfortunately so I might just pop in and out occasionally if that's alright?

I am early 20s, first pregnancy, only about 7 and a half weeks and have already been into hospital once on a drip with the HG. I've been off work for nearly 2 weeks, my sick note only covers me for next week too, and I only get 4 weeks full pay on the sick, plus I'm in a new job so they can dismiss me at any point until I finish my probation in mid-February with 1 week notice. My DH is super helpful but currently unemployed, our only source of income atm is my low-wage job. After being in hospital they gave me ondansetron and to continue with the buccastem and my vomiting has massively decreased so I'm only vomiting say 5 times a day now usually 2-3 in the morning and then another 2-3 in the evening which is much better than the 15 or so times before and I'm managing to keep bits of food and fluid down, lost 3kg so far and only in my 8th week. I am so terrified about work letting me go and what we will do if that happens, and I am so sick of laying in one place all day for nearly two weeks, feeling permanently starving hungry but not able to stomach food. I have a history of depression, I'm currently weaning off my antidepressant, and I have an anxiety disorder, and this is starting to affect my mood considerably. I feel so down and helpless Sad.

justtheonethen · 02/11/2017 17:17

X posted seize! Glad baby is ok but your kidney sounds worrying. I hope it's nothing. Hurrah for getting ondansetron, you go girl!

justtheonethen · 02/11/2017 17:20

Oh meadow, sorry you have got HG. It's really rotten. Work situation sounds tricky too. Hopefully the ondansetron will continue helping but you could go to doctor and add in another tablet to the mix. That's too many vomits still!
I was the same early days and couldn't face all the sick chat! Sending Flowers.

Natsku · 02/11/2017 18:04

That sounds quite worrying seize hope the renal scan clears things up and its nothing serious

NonStopDisco · 02/11/2017 18:51

Seize Baby was fully informed- well, said what was happening, but didn’t get much of a response- was a bit quiet in there. I said a sharp kick in the ribs would do if they were in agreement! Hope the renal scan goes well.
OnNatures I’ve eaten my hospital bag snacks... I feel awful, but it was so worth it!
Hello to newcomers, sorry you’ve had to join!

Poppet1985 · 02/11/2017 19:05

Thanks everyone 😊

Yes Oklahoma ... My first and last. I couldn't do this again! I'm not strong enough. This people doing it for a second time are amazing!

Just the one then...fingers crossed I am like you and start to improve a bit soon. It would be nice to just have the energy to go outside and get some fresh air.

Hi Meadow. Don't worry I couldn't look at my phone or do much until now. I'm 14 weeks and only just joined. Stay strong! Your job sounds worrying but remember your health is most important.

Seize I hope the scan goes well, must be a worrying time for you

LucindaE · 02/11/2017 19:22

TheMummy Thank you for that information; that's really intriguing.
Welcome to Poppet1985 and MeadhowHay. Poppet I am so glad that they have worked out some meds that hopefully will help. How awful to be in hospital so long. I hope the thyroid problem resolves when you recover from Hyperemesis. That's a long time in hospital. Most people get considerable relief between weeks fourteen and twenty one and even the unlucky minority who suffer throughout don't sufffer as badly as in the first tri. I hope things improve for you both soon. MeadowHay Sorry to hear about depression, too. Legislation was different in my working outside the home days - but even on a short term contract, can they fire you for a pregnancy related illness? Do phone Pregnancy Sickness Support on 024 7638 2020 to enquire. They will phone back with good advice.

NonStopDisco Sorry that baby ignored your suggestion!
Elephant Glad the list cheered you.
Seize Here is the new due dates list.
Ameliablue I am glad the test went OK.
BlueButTrue It is ironic that your cervix was partly open at one point, and had you worried, and now things won't start!

What liquids helped - were flat full sugar coke, the juice of tinned fruit, or ice lollies any good? Some other liquids have been found useful; Lucozade, Elderflower water, soda water, ice cubes, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), orange squash, fizzy orange, Dr Pepper jelly. For food of a sort, melon or mango, tinned fruit, (especially peaches) nibbles of crisps, cuppa soup, cheap ice cream and some say chips are bearable too. Poppet and

Lucinda what was your question at the end of your message? It has cut the end off. Thankyou for the kind words, I hope things improve soon. It was a long time in hospital... I don't think they knew what to do with me as I didn't even have the energy to lift my head of the pillow but they diagnosed the thyroid to explaining the zero energy.

My due date is the 28th April... not sure if that is what you were going to ask.

Just noticed I have a black eye from vomiting last night 😣

BlueButTrue · 02/11/2017 20:20

Lucinda I think I lost my plug today Grin keeping my fingers crossed!

It’s been a fair day, I feel so much better (had a really nasty cold), and felt so sorry for myself Blush

DeadDoorpost · 02/11/2017 20:41

blue you must be so relieved soon after everything.
seize time to celebrate then! Glad you got the ondansetron!
Feeling a bit off again now. Heartburn after having half a foot-long sausage. DH obviously couldn't contain himself because he's a huge manchild. Cue him holding it up comparing himself to it.Hmm
And my uncle is having a girl! So that's another girl for the Hyperemesis team. Not that she's on here but still. Nan was telling me that she can at least eat foods. And she reckons I'm still worse than her sickness wise and that I'll be giving birth early. I hope so.
DH is now in a sensitive meeting so I'm currently laying in bed trying to find something to watch while he's skyping in the kitchen. Good job I've got a drink here...

lookingforthecorkscrew · 02/11/2017 21:03

Wrote a long message asking after everyone and describing my awful awful day, then lost it.

So I’ll just say that today began with a crying fit at 7.30am and went downhill from there. Off to bed now to toss and turn for four hours.

BlueButTrue · 02/11/2017 21:31

SIL has put a bit of a bee in my bonnet Envy She says she lost her plug and was still 42 weeks before she even had my niece (via induction) Grin

BlueButTrue · 02/11/2017 21:33

lookingforthecork I’m sorry you’ve had a pants day, I hope tomorrow is 10 times better for you Flowers

And I feel your pain over writing a big message, for it to go and you have to type it again. So bloody annoying

Mustang27 · 02/11/2017 22:02

Wow thread has been busy!!!

Oh god poppet you are really having it rough, you have nothing but my sympathy and complete awe. I hope you have good support in real life too.

Glad you coped Amelia.

Ons & non I hope you guys go soon just to be Hg few will be sad to see you go from the thread.
Haha Nonstop I have eaten my hospital bag snacks twice Blush.

Erm seize that sounds pretty nerve wracking, when is the renal and pelvic scan.

Meadow you poor thing you sound like you have a lot of worry which won’t help how you are feeling. Offload as much as you need.

Ooo blue that’s a good sign labour could still be some time off though I’m hoping it’s not though. I’m so sorry your sil isn’t lying.

LucindaE · 02/11/2017 22:21

BlueButTrue Fingers crossed!
Poppet Added your date. Silly of me, I messed up copying and pasting. I meant to state some liquids many have found bearable on here, which might possibly be wroth trying for you and MeadowHay. These include ice lollies, flat full sugar coke, the juice of tinned fruit (and maybe the fruit), soda water, Elderflower Water, Lucozade, orange squash, fizzy orange, Dr Pepper, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya) jelly and ice cubes. For food of a sort, melon, mango, cuppa soup, cheap ice cream and nibbles of crisps and that tinned fruit. You may have sadly tried all of these!

Goodness this thread is busy again, kinda glad as it gives me something to read at 3am!

I've heard the mucus plug can partly come away and then reform. At least that's what the midwife has been telling me as I've had some crazy gloopy discharge over the past few weeks on and off. I do hope its the start for you however... 🎆

Re the renal scan, I hope all goes well. I know how scary it can be. I have urinary tract troubles myself. Forgive me if you've already said but do you have any pain?

I ended up in out of hours a few nights ago with a suspected kidney infection as I got a shooting pain up my back when I went for a pee, it actually made me stop mid flow as it was that painful. They didn't find any signs of infection but did say to DP "don't go too far" as they suspected it was the start of back labor. Yet, here I am, two nights later, with no further sign. I did get the same pain upon peeing this morning though so I do think I'm brewing some sort of infection... Either that or baby has a foot lodged somewhere as my pain is on the side where their feet sit. Definitely something I need to watch though. Having to breathe through spasm pain just to pee is no fun.

I managed to eat a fair bit today. Another suggestion for the food list, plain thin oatcakes. I'm pretty sure I munched these in the first crazy sick 20+ weeks too. Seems they stop nausea as well. Two before dinner allowed me to eat (my very unhealthy chicken super noodles!)

Also lucazade now do a reduced sugar/calorie version which I've found sits in my tummy better leaving me less gassy.

Wishing everyone a well morning and easy going day. 💗

Goodness more newcomers with HG.
This really breaks my heart. But I am glad you guys have found us Poppet and Meadow. You will find the support here is unrelenting and priceless!
Moan away as much as you need and do keep in mind that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You will see older members on here who have been suffering since the beginning (5/7 weeks onwards) and a lot of them are almost at the finishing line. We can do it!!
Also bear in mind there will be slow very slow relief from 14 weeks onwards and by 20/21 weeks you won't be half as miserable as you were in 1st trimester. There are relapses here and there but you will slowly lean more towards good days than bad. Goodluck on this long journey and hope you are getting the support you absolutely need in RL as well whether from family members, friends or evem Doctors/your GPs/your MWs.

Sorry about the slow progress Blue.
You and the other ladies Dead OnNatures NonStopDisco Oklahama and Pippa must be really fed up with all the anticipation being marred by all the signs of labour without actual labour starting. We are all cheering for you Flowers

Amelia yay for getting through the GTT. Gives me some hope that I'll be able to get through mine with less trouble than I imagine. Hope you report back with good results.

LOL @ Mustang and NonStop eating their hospital bag snacks. That is sooo gonna be me in another 4 months!Grin

seize Hope there is no reason to worry and the scan clears things up for you.

justtheonethen Oh dear I think we had the 20/21 week relapse at the same time. Hope it gets better soon for us and this is the last relapse!

BlueButTrue · 03/11/2017 07:02

I feel as if they should do a BBC documentary on HG/maybe a few other severe pregnancies related struggles.

I don’t think there’s enough understanding out there but people love a BBC documentary Grin Perhaps put Kate M as a special guest or something?!

May go a long way to less feckers giving miraculous suggestions of ginger nuts and mints

BlueButTrue · 03/11/2017 07:02

*there

DeadDoorpost · 03/11/2017 09:51

nature Don't know how oaty they are but I'm really enjoying Aldi's chocolate covered hobnob style biscuits. totally didnt ignore the fact they're call 'oaties'
I have a feeling the reason why I felt so ill yesterday was because I forgot to have an ondansetron tablet. The number I've had doesn't add up on my pack. At least I didn't throw up! And kept everything down.
I have however gone off a lot of foods. DH and I sat down to do a meal Rota for the next 2 weeks so that if BabyDoor comes it's not a struggle to cook anything and he can move meals around if we fancy something else. Also helped with getting the shopping yesterday. Only problem is that I didn't even fancy having my favourite meal. I'm literally running on just eating to keep me from being sick. It's a nightmare.

OnNaturesCourse · 03/11/2017 11:06

I'll look into them Dead! I'm so far, touch wood, having a good day. Not sleepy, not sick nor suffering from nausea but I do want to eat everything and DP has the car at work... And we haven't done the weekly shop yet.

Not jinxing it either but since a mad "I feel better" few hours cleaning I've had really achy groin along with extremely dull period like pains and a back that feels like it's being stood on. Hoping baby is pushing further down and getting ready at least.

DeadDoorpost · 03/11/2017 14:05

I've just woken up again lol I'm tired as Hell. I have no reason to be! Yeah the biscuits are actually really nice I'm surprised I've not bought them before. Good job it's just across the road from me so I can pop over and get more if I need to. I've got chocolate digestive here as well but I'm preferring the oaties...
Had a normal dream this time. I'm glad. I've been fed up of the odd ones.

DeadDoorpost · 03/11/2017 14:30

You know what, I'm actually glad I woke up now coz I've just lost a tiny bit of my plug. Literally the tiniest amount but there's no was that was regular discharge! I kinda feel like I'm getting somewhere. Although it's certainly not going to happen all at once.. I'm prepared for the next 2 weeks to go still. And I know BabyDoor isn't engaged yet. But I feel better knowing my body is getting ready Grin 🎉🎉

MeadowHay · 03/11/2017 15:41

Lucinda Thank you, my due date is 18th of June I think...sooooooooo far away I could cry Sad. Had a horrible time of it yesterday evening, some awful vomiting, had managed to eat a toddler-size dinner and everything yesterday but then most of it came up later. Just when I think I'm getting a grip on things I have another awful bout of vomiting! Thanks for the drink & food list, I have a really good little booklet from the hospital which was useful and very thorough. It's funny how we are all different but similar foods & drinks are tolerable. I am mostly living off Jacob's Cream Crackers and lemonade at the moment. It's getting very boring already and no doubt I have many weeks of this to go still Sad. Also, my job can't technically dismiss me for pregnancy-related sickness, but they can dismiss me with 1 week's notice without giving any reason at all during my probation - of which I'm in til mid-February. So it really depends how kind they're feeling as to whether I keep my job or not Sad. Luckily DH has a job interview soon, if he gets that job at least it will take the financial pressure off me, but then it will be awful for me being alone all day at home because I literally barely move at the moment, he gets me everything I need and takes such excellent care of me bless him.

Hurrah for ladies losing their plugs, hope labour comes quick and easy for you all Flowers.

Probably food & drink's been done to death already but the things I'm mostly surviving on just in case it is useful for anyone else:

  • Roundtree fruit pastel lolly ices
  • Jacob's cream crackers
  • Orangey fruit toast with a bit of marge
  • Chips
  • Walker's ready salted crisps
  • Lemonade (Sprite/Fanta lemon)
  • Haribo Funny Mix (vegeterian version of star mix I guess)
  • Maynard's Cherry Drops

Really worried about my teeth given I'm mostly eating sweets and drinking sugary drinks, and I can't always brush my teeth twice a day because I often vomit just before bed and they say not to brush your teeth for at least an hour after throwing up Sad.
