I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

nature I don't have it, no, which is the frustrating big because the only thing I can blame it on is wide hips.
Was supposed to have an antenatal class today but erm, just woken up and I felt like crap earlier. Night sweats, a horrible stomach feeling like when you're about to start your period,And a headache. All seem to have gone now though.

And my dream had me in it losing my plug and baby being engaged. I've woken up slightly upset because I thought I was finally going to be done with this sickness.

pippanippa · 02/11/2017 11:38

deaddoor I am with you. I was a little bit optimistic last night with lots of period type pain in my back, similar to when labour started with DD....I wobbled about on my birthing ball for ages just in case it was the start of something, but it was just the usual aches and pains in the end. It is back again now this morning, so I guess body is gearing up but it will probably take weeks. Have a horrible headache too and it's hard not to be deflated. Anyway, in for the usual monitoring tomorrow so will see if am actually having any contractions then or if I'm just being overly hopeful.

So impressed by all those travelling and working through this. Apart from waddling to the hospital (up a stupidly big hill...) for check ups I am resolutely housebound at the moment. Hope some of you are having good days!

Themummy76 · 02/11/2017 11:41

Thank you - yes I had never heard of it either and no one ever mentioned it to me in two hypermesis pregnancies or trying to get pregnant in between. I’m hoping it would make the difference next time but it seems like there isn’t that much evidence it makes a massive difference.

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 02/11/2017 11:51

Wasn't aware of the link between HG and H.Pylori, thanks for that, will have a dig through the research and ask GP for test. Very strong link between untreated H.Pylori and certain cancers, so well worth getting it checked if possible.

I'm 11+4 and tentatively feeling a little better. I can get up and do the odd bit of housework/pop to shops etc. Been this way for a few days and even managed to skip my midday dose ondansetron.

Please tell me this is a positive sign? I'm being very careful not to overdo it but it would be nice to go back to work at some point!

OnNaturesCourse · 02/11/2017 11:56

With you with the disappointment Pippa and Dead. Was that crampy, nauseated and Blush feeling like my butt should be stuck to the loo (along with crazy discharge and swelling everywhere) that I made DP take the car to work just in case. But I'm not long awake and there's nada aside from crazy vivid dreams and a overall too hot / sweaty feeling.

I was pretty convinced something was starting last night. Envy and I was looking forward to finally getting through the next stage.

Oklahoma · 02/11/2017 12:08

This waiting game at the end is rubbish. I just want it to all be over. Same with the cramping and loads of braxton hicks. Come on Oklar!

Batman there are lots of hormone surges so most people don’t find you get better as such you just have runs of good days and runs of bad days. The balance shifts towards good rather than bad the further along you get but please don’t hope for a miraculous recover one day, I’m not being mean I just don’t want you to be disappointed. I spent the whole of my first pregnancy waiting for the HG to ‘clear up’ and found it soul destroying when it never did. Hang on in there and try and take it easy even if you are feeling better

justtheonethen · 02/11/2017 12:27

oklahoma I'm so glad it's not just me. I've been waiting for it to clear up/off and had a run of good days last week. Then threw up last night and feel as awful as I ever have. I feel devastated that I'm still feeling like this at 21+6.

batman it definitely gets better but as above I wouldn't expect miracles.

shez why were you told no for ondansetron? Yep avomine does help sleep wise, although the last few nights I've been awake from 3-5.30 so I'm soooo tired.

Excited for all those of you that are close to giving birth Smile

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 02/11/2017 12:51

😂 no miracles expected here, I can assure you! I was bad all the way through with DC1 and on cyclazine for the whole pg (bad NVP, not HG). I did feel marginally better during second trimester, so am hoping for similar here.

Just being a bit more functional is most welcome, although I can feel it when I need to go back to bed.

Oh the joys.

Hope you all are ok Cake

Emu31 · 02/11/2017 13:03

Oklahoma you are so right. It's so hard because everyone, even
especially doctors, seem to tell you that it is going to miraculously stop at a certain point/number of weeks. It then feels devastating when, after a good day or two, the sickness comes back. I saw a consultant who insisted that it would practically disappear at 20 weeks because of something to do with hormones. Maybe that does happen for some people but the reality for me has been much more that it has become gradually better with more of a swing towards good days than bad. Now I just try and tell myself 'today is a good day', if I'm having one, without pinning too much hope on it staying like that (much easier said than done - even as I'm writing this I'm having a good day and hoping that it might be gone!).
One thing I would say is to keep taking the meds even when you feel better, I've made the mistake of stopping/trying to wean off before I was ready and got really poorly. I just so wanted it to be gone.

Natsku · 02/11/2017 13:03

Interesting about the h pyleri and HG connection as I had a gastric ulcer when pregnant with DD but can't remember if they tested for h pyleri or not

DeadDoorpost · 02/11/2017 13:58

pippa nature And Oklahoma I just walked round Aldi, then into town and back and I may need to not do anything for the rest of the day. Feet are swollen, everything aches and discharge actually went through to my leggings today which never happens. Period pains are still here. 2 weeks and 2 days.. 2 weeks and 2 days sobs

DeadDoorpost · 02/11/2017 14:01

I just had a look and my foof is also swollen. Not that I usually look at it. Would explain why it's all tender down there I guess.

justtheonethen · 02/11/2017 14:24

emu you're so right, my gp/hospital doctors constantly told me that it would be gone by 12/14/16/20 weeks that I just feel a bit depressed that it hasn't.

door your poor foof!

BlueButTrue · 02/11/2017 14:24

I’m interested to know about the HP thing too, I’m a chronic sufferer of ulcers that usually end up bleeding (thus making me vomit untold amounts of blood like in a horror movie).

I wonder if it’s made me more prone to HG... hmmm

Natsku · 02/11/2017 14:41

Ouch to the swollen foof!

I have an ulcer that ended up bleeding years ago and I vomited brown blood blue was horrid but that one was caused by too much ibuprofen. I think I'll ask the OB about testing for HP at my appointment next week.

Poppet1985 · 02/11/2017 15:08

Hi, I have just joined mumsnet and searched for a thread on Hyperemesis straight away. It is so nice to know I am not the only one!!!
I am 14 + 5 and have been suffering with Hyperemesis since start of week 5, having spent the majority of the last 9 weeks in hospital. I have developed an overactive thyroid as a result of the Hyperemesis and have lost over 2 stone. I am currently on steroids, ondensatron, Cyclisine and another anti ametic that has sedative in for the sickness and I am on high calorie shakes called Ensure to put weight back on, oh and thyroid medication!
I have not been in work since it started and struggle to even make myself a drink or go the toilet. I am zapped of all energy and feel so sick. I am hoping this ends sometime soon... struggling to cope and stay positive. Not enjoying my pregnancy and feel like a prisoner 🙁

Ameliablue · 02/11/2017 15:31

I went for the glucose tolerance test this morning and chopped far better than I was expecting, some heartburn but no vomiting, actually felt better than I normally do in the morning but sitting still for two hours probably helped. Just waiting for the results now.

NonStopDisco · 02/11/2017 15:36

My plan of going into labour at exactly midnight hasn’t come to fruition - I’m exactly 37 weeks today and fed up.

DeadDoorpost · 02/11/2017 16:07

poppet hi and welcome. yes, you are not alone! I lost over 2 stone too but didn't bother trying to put it back on as I was slightly overweight anyway. I managed to feel better about week 15 or so but there were a couple of times when hormones kicked in again and it got worse for a bit.

OnNaturesCourse · 02/11/2017 16:08

Right with you NonStop. I'm absolutely starving today but eating makes me seasick. Totally downer today.

Poppet1985 · 02/11/2017 16:17

Thanks DeadDoorpost. I'm hoping I start to feel better in the next week or so.

Amelia Blue fingers crossed for your result. I'm glad the test went ok for you. I have booked mine, not got it until 24 weeks.

Can anybody else not watch television or be in rooms with bright lights? They make me vomit.

Oklahoma · 02/11/2017 16:20

Hi Poppet and welcome. Nothing I can say really other than we are all in the same boat and so totally understand and sympathise in how utterly shit HG is. Sounds like you’ve got the right meds, most of us are on some combination of ondansetron + other drugs. Is this your first child?

Oklahoma · 02/11/2017 16:22

Poppet yes TV makes me feel horrendous, light and sound are triggers for a lot of people

seizethecuttlefish · 02/11/2017 17:11

Afternoon all. Welcome poppet.
Disco sad your plan to go into labour failed. Was baby fully informed WinkCan’t offer much help as I had my son at 37 weeks. This munchkin is a completely different ball game, so knowing me I’ll have the pleasure of slogging my geriatric (thanks nhs for that term) all the way to the finish line.
Amelia well done on getting through gtt. Hope your results are fine.
Dead can’t imagine the constant pain. You’re a superhuman!
So much happening on the thread. Nice to see it busy, in a way but not nice to think of us all suffering. Happy to report I kicked drs butt and have my prescription for the miracle that is ondansetron. I sort of feel human at the moment. A really tired human but definitely human. I have to say it though, omg the constipation! Kiwis are sold out everywhere here, so I can only assume that everyone is bunged up.
Had my scan today. Little Jim (or Jimetta) is looking good. Due date now 13 May. Wasn’t in the right position so had to drink cold water and then had some chocolate at 9am. I’ve had heartburn ever since. They found a growth on my kidney, during the scan...they think. They also think my left kidney is in the wrong place. Considering I’ve had numerous scans over the years and a previous pregnancy, I can’t see them just figuring this out. I’ve been referred for an emergency renal and pelvic scan. They are hoping this will be next week and then they can bring my consultants appt forward. Mw called and was lovely. Which freaked me out more.

justtheonethen · 02/11/2017 17:15

poppet welcome, sorry you're here! Can't face tv/noise most of the time either but I'm a bit better with those since I passed 20 week mark.

amelia glad test went ok, that's given me hope! I've asked DH to take morning off to drive me as I get horrendously dizzy if I don't eat, never mind sick! Fingers crossed for result.

Really struggling today, I feel totally out of it Sad
