I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Eeek oklahoma they make me retch at the best of times too too but I'm on a mission to find anything that might make me feel the slightest bit 'normal' if only for 10 minutes (if of course I don't throw it up). Not sure how I feel about ice cream yet but I like your forward thinking about them on the way back up!!!

LucindaE · 30/10/2017 12:06

Emu23 (I hope I have that number correct) welcome. Sorry you are suffering from the scourge. I so agree about an effective anti acid being invlaluable in counteracting vomiting and nausea, too - I am forever recommending it on this thread until people must get sick (if you'll forgive the expression) it. Unluckily, I haven't been about as much as I'd like these past few days, due to family health problems.
Belated good luck wishes to BlueButTrue. Sorry she lost us. I wonder how things are going for her?

Oklahama Totally on the same page as you re rehydration sachets. Would make me puke my guts envy

Dead Great to know you can have your tablets until the end. No point suffering towards the end. Hope the last few weeks are easy on you.

Greenbeanie In HG I find it's whatever floats your boatSmile
I had days where food which I used to be able to keep made me retch to the point of no return and food which I would usually hate was easier to stomach. Totally relate to being desperate enough to try anything to be remotely normal even for few minutes of the day.

Mustang27 · 30/10/2017 13:01

Dead but have you tried ginger........ lol you have evil dreams. Positivity is great but I really don’t think ppl get how you feel after 30+ weeks of spewing and feeling utterly vile. I’m sure your dad meant it from a good place but I’d struggle not to tell him to jog on lol.

Hope Blue is coping ok. Can’t wait to have another squish on the thread it really is lovely to see everyone’s babies.

Sorry you are so poorly Oklahoma enjoy your rest.

Can’t get motivated to pack my hospital bag either I’m fully aware this will likely comeback and bite me on the ass.

DeadDoorpost · 30/10/2017 13:27

mustang aha I was genuinely frustrated with it because I was certain I'd read it on my Facebook post but alas it is not there so it was obviously in my dream. Yeah DF I don't think has much sympathy now as it's so close to the end. I've just kinda ignored him so far today.
Picked the tablets up. I better get on with housework while I can.

Oh, and I've found something else out. Some to my nan today about her labours and apparently she also had short labours. So that's both her my mum and me with HG pregnancies and her and my mum with short labours. Maybe I'll be like them and have a quick birth when it comes around. Or maybe I'll break the chain lol. I did find it interesting that she had quick ones. And barely any pain as well! My mum suffered with some pretty bad bleeds though after the birth of me and my brother which could have killed her so yeah.. similar but different. We shall see.

DeadDoorpost · 30/10/2017 13:28

Damn. Keep forgetting to ask you all. Do any of you have a really sore spot on your stomach? I see to have a place on my stomach that's sore to touch and I'll occasionally catch it by accident. It's only happened in the last few days so it's not been a constant thing. Midwife is here tomorrow so I'll tall to her then. There's no marks on the outside at all. No stretchmarks either so don't know what it is.

Mustang27 · 30/10/2017 13:46

Never any sore spots I’d definitely speak to the midwife and let her have a wee check of that.

Il keep everything crossed you follow after your mum and Nan on the quick relatively pain free births but not the bleeding part.

Great news on tablet front do not over do it though. You sound like you are nesting lol.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 30/10/2017 14:30

Dead. I often got sore spots it was usually when the retching had pulled something

DeadDoorpost · 30/10/2017 14:31

Mustang I think I nested weeks ago. I'm getting restless, but know I shouldn't really be doing too much. At least I won't be doing the shopping later.
No, the washing needed doing (DH texted me on his way to work asking if I could sort it out. He'll do the washing up when he gets back)
I was meant to go to a funeral today but really didn't feel like it. Also then remembered it's been 3 years exactly since the funeral of one of my best friends so that's kind of hit me today but thankfully I've not been emotional.
I'm just glad I've got Thor to see tonight at the cinema as our last real sort of date before BabyDoor is born. And then Christmas :D Grin

DeadDoorpost · 30/10/2017 14:32

Needs I'd usually put it down to something like that but I've not been sick or retched for a few weeks so no idea what it is. It's only on the outside as well, not inside.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 30/10/2017 14:34

It’s worth getting checked. Mine was inside

kiwi6927 · 30/10/2017 14:46

I've been prescribed zofran. I've been on it 2 weeks now. I take 4mg twice daily. Has anyone found it to plateau after awhile?

BlueButTrue · 30/10/2017 17:56

Dead I don’t want to alarm but I get sore spots on the outside of my stomach when I have an ulcer. Please go to A&E if you start getting blood in your sick/vomiting blood because the sore spot along with the blood indicates a burst one Sad They are easy to treat though! And I’m probably being silly and you’ve just pulled something but thought I’d share with you what happens with me Flowers

BlueButTrue · 30/10/2017 17:58

Still no sign of baby! These ‘contractions’ are still 6ish minutes apart and not even painful but they are sore.

Goodness knows what to do. Seems a bit odd for Braxton Hicks...

I’m feeling very angst about it all, because I have a very nasty cold to boot that’s making my joints feel like I’ve got frozen poles for legs and arms Sad

Positive of today is I haven’t been sick! Hoorahh

LucindaE · 30/10/2017 18:29

kiwi6927 Welcome to the thread nobody wants to need. 'I believe Zofran' is a US brand of Ondansetron, or am I getting mixed up? Sometimes people need to up the dose or have it combined with another drug like cyclizine. Are you all kitted out with kesostix? What liquids suit you best? Many on here swear by ice lollies, Elderflower Water, the juice of tinned fruit and flat full sugar coke among others.
BlueButTrue Sorry to hear that nothing has happened - what a disappointment; and painful, too. Keeping fingers crossed it happens soon.
DeadDoorPost I so agree with others; its always worth having pains checked out, as much for reassurance as anything.

Mustang27 · 30/10/2017 19:46

Blue has your midwife checked you to see how much you are dilated?

Hi Kiwi I found it definitely got less effective and had to up the dose which only made constipation worse. I’m sure others have reported similar findings with all the anti emetics Sad

Natsku · 30/10/2017 20:25

Started leaking colustrum, pretty sure that didn't happen until much later last time

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 30/10/2017 21:26

How far along are you Natsku? I think that's a good sign though, I always worry my milk won't come in, took 6 days last time.

I've been signed off sick for another 2 weeks. I didn't want to be but I have to say that I was relieved. I asked for a week off and GP said it sounded like I could do with a bit longer. That brings me to a total of 6 weeks off out of 13 by the time I go back if I do Confused feeling bad about it but work have been great.

My diet is absolutely appalling, is anyone else's? It used to be all salads and quinoa and now it's all beige things with salt on McDonals fries

I've put on a whole fucking stone since the ondansetron stopped the puking. I feel vile if I don't eat, so I eat eat eat. I did this last pg and was 3 stone heavier at the end of it. Managed to breastfeed it off thank fuck. Urgh.

Sorry, bit ranty there...

I'm a bit lonely really if I'm honest

seizethecuttlefish · 30/10/2017 22:51

Batman I’ve been off sick for 5 weeks by the end of this week and unless there is a miracle I can’t see me making it back on Monday. Not being sick (yay) but feel like death, I can’t stand up for long and feel horrid. I haven’t really heard much from my work and if I’m honest I felt guilty at first but they’re obviously not bothered, so...
Kiwi I’ve noticed that the meds do seem to plateau. I don’t know if I could cope with worse constipation. It’s horrific. Not sure that the lactulose is doing much and dr is not comfortable prescribing anything else.
Good news, my sons Halloween costume is done. And that describes how I feel. It’s been a rubbish day. Feel like I just moan these days. Even though I’ve been to the toilet, I still feel bunged up. If that makes sense?

DeadDoorpost · 30/10/2017 23:44

I'll speak to midwife tomorrow. I had to use tape to help support my bump today which helped the soreneds. I think it's the skin stretching but you're right, it needs to be checked. It's just not a constant pain.
Cinema tonight was good. Bump felt like it had dropped but looking at myself in the mirror it doesn't look like it has. Shame. And there's no real pressure or anything down below. Maybe I'm just trying to will this baby out now.
Blue hopefully things will happen soon for you. It must be frustrating.

Natsku · 31/10/2017 07:21

I think I vaguely remember getting sore spots last time, is it a kind of burning sensation on the skin if you touch it?

I'm 27 weeks batman had a bit of milk supply issues last time so hoping this means it'll be better this time.

Had midwife this morning, the first test of the GTT test was slightly above the border (the other two were fine) so I have to check my blood sugars at home for the next few days and midwife told me to make sure I don't eat too much sugary foods these next few days... I promised DD we'd bake a cake today :(
Have OB appointment next week - thyroid levels still aren't right so need to discuss raising my dosage and ask about everything else. And getting my flu jab too, was supposed to get it done today but ran out of time.

pippanippa · 31/10/2017 08:54

Sorry to hear of the loneliness batman, I think it's the common curse of HG though, it's just so difficult to get out and impossible to make / keep plans. I'd follow your body's lead and eat, eat, eat like you are! Not being able to do that this time round with the GD I definitely seem more exhausted than last time and still have ketones constantly (so annoying!). Speaking of which, hope the sugar testing goes ok over the next few days Natsku and you can avoid the GD diet longer term.

Blue I hope things are progressing for you! My hospital bag is now half packed (well, it's progress at least!). Am definitely nesting, I cleaned out the loft yesterday and rearranged the lounge - I don't know why this happens every time, I have a mad urge to clean EVERYTHING (including the lights we have hanging up outside, must get to those later). My poor washing machine hasn't stopped for the last few days either and I organised the freezer last night ready for a bit more batch cooking. You can probably tell from all that that I've had a good 2 days vomit-wise so making the most of it!

Natsku · 31/10/2017 08:56

Not even sure what I can eat for the GD diet, just got given a leaflet with a list of things that contain 10g of sugar - not very helpful!

pippanippa · 31/10/2017 10:03

Hi Natsku, the rule of thumb for the GD diet here is:

  • low sugar (so this includes cutting out the obvious suspects like cake, full sugar fizzy drinks (pepsi max/coke zero are ok), fruit juice, but also reducing the less obvious (so high sugar fruits like dried fruits, grapes, bananas, and some veg too like sweetcorn, even some nuts. You can still eat them, but in small quantities or switch them for lower sugar alternatives e.g. certain berries)
  • low carb (you need carbs but they shouldn't be the main part of your meal, so switch out white bread/pasta and rice for brown).

So looking at a plate of food on a GD diet 1/4 should be carb, 1/4 protein (eggs, cheese, lentils, meat and fish) and 1/2 veg. Then snack wise, if you have anything sugary (like fruit) it's best to eat with something else which will release sugar more slowly (like full fat greek yoghurt with some almonds). That's the guidance here, but it does vary a bit by country.

Natsku · 31/10/2017 10:21

Cheers pippa going to go to the shop when OH gets home and get some wholegrain stuff (problem with GF breads and pastas is they tend to have more sugar generally). Going to have to stop eating my usual breakfast as its muesli with lots of dried fruit in, with a banana and flavoured yoghurt so I guess pretty bad! I suppose mango is high sugar as well? Bugger, been eating a mango every day the last couple of weeks.

Not the best of days really, this, and also our pipes froze last night so we had no water until about an hour ago when the workmen finally fixed it (and then got mud or something into the system so I'm reluctant to drink the water as it was quite muddy when it first started running)
