I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Dashing on - OH has been bleeding through the cast, it looks like something from a horror film but has stopped now Shock to welcome ElephantGrey. Sorry you are suffering so badly. Things do get better for almost everyone, and for many, theres a great improvement sometime between 14-21 weeks. You can have hormonal surges that bring you down a bit again. You say you are on tablets; are they cyclizine or something stronger? Have they given you an anti acid? That can help so much. You said you've seen some of the drink and foods recommendations; here's the favourites;
Do invest in some kesostix if you haven't got them, to check for the early stages of dehydration. Some drinks and foods (of a sort) that people have found bearable. Flat full sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, soda water, the juice of tinned fruit (and maybe the fruit) Dr Pepper, Lucoazade, Elderflower Water, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), orange juice and fizzy orange; cuppa soup, cheap ice cream, nibbles of crisps, slices of melon (maybe frozen)and mango.
Sally I am so glad that Elderflower Water helps you. It is very sweet; that' s probably why. I recently used to choose it as a 'healthy option' until I saw the sugar content, but its perfect for Hyperemesis.
Much sympathy for all suffering from hormonal surges at 20 or 30 weeks. Thinking of you all, though I can't be on much atm.

Hey all, hope you don’t mind me joining. I’ve been lurking here over the last week, but was too nervous to speak as I’ve been spotting. But I’m here now at 6+3, feeling utterly vile so hopefully still pregnant. Luckily, based on previous pregnancies, and the one I had that ended in miscarriage in April, my GP is v on the ball with my HG so I already have a prescription for metoclopramide. But I know I’m in for a rough time, and could do with a gentle hand hold!

DeadDoorpost · 28/10/2017 02:34

corkscrew don't be nervous about us, and I know spotting can be normal but never personally experienced it so cannae keep you as ease sorry. It may have been implantation bleeding if you're at 6 weeks already? I've seen on other threads women who've bled more and gone on to full term etc so it's not always a bad sign.

Shehz21 · 28/10/2017 06:19

Corkscrew Welcome Flowers
Sorry you are feeling vile but you have found your support community right here. About spotting, I had spotting until 12 weeks due to a haematoma(sp?)next to the sac. And all is good today at 19+3 :)
It's not always something to worry about but glad your GP is keeping an eye on you plus it's great you already have medecines to help with the sickness.
Sorry about your loss and hoping this pregnancy goes on fine for you. Do contact your EPU and tell them about your worries due to previous miscarriage and spotting in this pregnancy so they can book you in for a scan asap. Keep us updated!

Mustang27 · 28/10/2017 10:50

Hi Cork so sorry to hear about your loss, I imagine anxiety will be rife for you at the moment in this pregnancy with that worry and the hg. This thread is easily the most supportive group of people I know so whatever this pregnancy throws at you (piles, constipation, exorcist style vomiting in public) there will be at least several people that know exactly how it feels.

Oh Dead I dunno but every time I swim I feel a bit weird and cold like afterwards I dunno if I’m allergic to the chlorine or something, I have fibro so sometimes it’s just a flare because I’ve done more than I feel like I have. Hopefully you feel better now and your afternoon isn’t too ruined.

Oh Nat is your dd coeliac too? My son seems to have inherited his fathers stomach of steel, except for legumes they seem to cause him a bit of digestive issues I’m hoping that’s all he has got from me.

Ah congrats Just a wee girl will be lovely 😍 the girl bumps have increased lately.

Ons yep on baby being active and the car is almost always a guaranteed vom session.

That’s great news Pippa good luck packing your bag I have all my supplies but not put them together.

How did you get in at hospital Oklahoma?

Elephantgrey · 28/10/2017 13:18

Thank you all so much. I had a much better day yesterday. I have been given 2 kinds of tablets. The ones you swallow and a kind that dissolve in your mouth. As I couldn't keep down any liquid I had the dissolving ones and I felt better after that I was actually able to eat food.

I am still bad with liquids I have been drinking lemon flavoured bottled water ( shamefully expensive) but am going to try chocolate soya milk and elderflower.

I got my date for my first scan in the post this morning. GrinI have also got a consultant appointment but that is not until January.

Pippa that's great news.

DeadDoorpost · 28/10/2017 13:57

DH just came up to me and said "oooh, Door, why'd you have to be so attractive?" Then leant down to my stomach and I though yeah, he's gonna talk to bump. And he goes "the quicker you come out the quicker I can go in".
Thanks DH, thanks 😂😂😂 at least he was talking to BabyDoor. But still 😂😂😂😂

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 28/10/2017 15:51

😂 Door

Can I ask how much time you lot have had off work? I'm 10+5 and have had almost 4 weeks off work so far, in two blocks. I went back in the middle and really tried very hard but I just couldn't do it.

I've been off again this week and due back on Tuesday. Was feeling ok this afternoon so ventured out to the shops, and now feel like shit.

I know that my GP would sign me off again, and work would cope, but I'm genuinely a lot better mentally when I'm in work, even on reduced hours. I have a very long commute though, so I can feel ok in the morning and then horrific as the day progresses.

Would I be taking the piss to have another week off?

How long have others had?

My job is physically undemanding and I have a high level of control once I'm there. I can just sit in my office and cry if I need to.

thingymaboob · 28/10/2017 16:03

I had 5 weeks off in the beginning. It should have been more but my manager is a gas lighting manipulative arsehole and I felt very pressured even though I was still vomiting 5-10 a day at work. She also didn't help matters by using essential oils and putting on perfume. It was put in my occupational health report for people not to use perfumes or brew coffee but that has mostly been ignored by people, especially her as they thought I was better.

DeadDoorpost · 28/10/2017 16:05

batman I wasn't in work as I've just finished uni but I'd say at the end of it, your health is more important as you really don't want to push yourself. If you can cope after the horrible first trimester it might not be so bad but I'd say maybe wait a bit longer if you Can, or is there any way you can work from home or something?

thingymaboob · 28/10/2017 16:23

Looking back I wish I hadn't gone back that early as I was annoying everyone I think and I was running myself into the ground. From weeks 17-27 I was ok. Then I started being sick 2 weeks ago. I threw up at work Thursday afternoon and didn't go in Friday as I'm not going to push myself. I've only got 6 more weeks of work left then off for 13 months!

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 28/10/2017 18:04

thingymaboob your boss sounds like a massive twat, sorry you had to put up with that Flowers

Totally hear you on the being annoying front. I tried to go in last Monday and after running out of my third meeting apologising and then sitting in the toilet for ages, it finally dawned on me that they'd be better off with me not being there and putting in proper cover arrangements. Also the lactulose makes me fart REALLY bad, all day Confused

You're right Dead, very glad I have good sick pay!

Grrrrr

justtheonethen · 28/10/2017 18:08

I have done 5 days since I got pregnant Blush

justtheonethen · 28/10/2017 18:08

So glad the lactulose farts aren't just me Grin

NonStopDisco · 28/10/2017 18:23

I kept insisting I was fine and going in. I wasn’t fine, and being present wasn’t doing anyone any good. I should have stayed off. My sick pay was good, and I did not receive a medal for turning up! Hindsight is 20:20

LucindaE · 28/10/2017 19:47

Welcome to lookingfor the corkscrew. I am so sorry to hear of your loss this spring, and the extra stress of spotting. As you are a veteran and have been following the thread, you have no need of my usual 'Have you got kesostix and the juice of tinned fruit, flat full sugar coke, ice lollies etc spiel. Glad that the doctor has given you meds. Did you find that metoclopramide helped before?
Great advice from Shehz DeadDoorPost and others. Just scanning through I am glad to see that OH still finds you arousing, DeadDoorPost! Grin Waves to Thingymaboob, BATMAN, ElephantGrey - whom I am glad is feeling slightly better today - Oklahoma and everyone.

DeadDoorpost · 28/10/2017 20:46

Lucinda aha yeah lol im glad too.
Been having some twinges today as well, and BabyDoor has been more active this week. Glad my hospital bag is half packed already just in case it all starts really soon. Parents are obviously excited

seizethecuttlefish · 28/10/2017 22:06

So glad I’m not the only one:
Missing work
Having the joys of lactulose

I went on holiday mid-sept and I haven’t made it back to work. I’m only 11 weeks, hoping for a miracle at the end of the first trimester. I’m lucky that my work has a good sickness policy. I also made sure they know I’m pregnant, which means I can’t go down a disciplinary route for any pregnancy related illness.
Pregnancy is attractive enough without lactulose giving me the means to power a small island with wind! And it’s rank. My son came to give me a cuddle at an unfortunate moment and ran out the room, shouting mission aborted!
Been an ok day today. Had a mcdonald’s and survived. Someone mentioned mcds fries on here and that was me!
Gentle hugs all. Wishing you a nausea free day/night.

Greenbeanie88 · 28/10/2017 22:08

Just popping in to say hello as I've finally found you. Suffered quite extreme vomiting in 1st pregnancy for first 17 weeks and here I am in 2nd at 10 weeks with slightly different sickness - less vomiting (3-4 times a day), nausea 24/7 and absolute exhaustion which has literally knocked off my feet for the past 6 weeks. I've backed out of a load of freelance work and taken 3 weeks off from my part time job (so far). Took a cyclizine this morning which wiped me out for the whole day but did allow me to drink orange juice and eat a tiny bit of dinner. Then I got a bit beyond myself and had a bit of dessert. Feeling so great that I'd only been sick once today I thought it was about time i had a shower (at 9pm) and then promptly threw up! I just want to feel normal again :-(

Ameliablue · 28/10/2017 22:15

I had to months signed off plus a couple of weeks annual leave over the summer, then a couple of weeks phased return. I also work short days for 4 out of 5, which helps as I'm normally fading by the time I leave in the afternoon.

Mustang27 · 28/10/2017 22:16

That’s really lovely Dead my oh finds me equally as attractive I genuinely think he is weird lol I feel as sexy as roadkill lol.

Green damn bloody showers they are the worst. I’m sorry you are going through this a second time you know it’s worth it at least.

Oh god I feel awful for everyone suffering the side effects of lactulose 😷.

What nonstop says completely. Nobody is ever really that grateful for you breaking yourself to get in to work so don’t bother.

Mustang27 · 28/10/2017 22:17

Seize Grin** at mission aborted

DeadDoorpost · 28/10/2017 22:28

Hi green welcome to the HG club. The constant nausea is a real pain, and I found often worse than the sickness.
mustang high five for feeling like roadkill and lovely lovely husbands. I'm still shocked DH feels the same way but there we go. I dread to think how he's going to be once BabyDoor is here... he's desperate for intimacy shall we say 😂

Looks like tomorrow will be my last day with ondansetron. Dr doesn't seem to have repeated the prescription for me yet so I may have to cope without it the last few weeks. Here's to hoping I'll be ok. But watching what I eat is going to drive me crazy. Which means little to no sugar, no cheese, little milk and no hot chocolates. I'll be lucky if I'll be able to keep down veg if I'm still as bad as at the beginning. 4 weeks to go... 3 weeks to go...

Mustang27 · 28/10/2017 22:52

Are you sure that’s going to work Dead? Don’t suffer needlessly you will need as much energy you can muster for labour. Hopefully you will be fine but if not I’m sure your dr will prescribe again.

I’m sure he will be happy to wait until you feel ready to be intimate. Sexy time is weird first time after baby, no bump to contend with is great though it’s all leaky boobs and waking babies oh the joys.

DeadDoorpost · 28/10/2017 23:11

I don't even know if I'll have leaky boobs. Mine haven't even grown during the pregnancy and have produced nada so far. I know it could happen afterwards but like the HG both DM and DGM had breastfeeding trouble.
And sexy times with DH will certainly be interesting. I'll be interested to see if I feel any more self confident knowing that I've lost weight as well...
I don't think I can really be bothered to keep asking for meds this close tbh. If I'm sick then maybe but we shall have to see. I'm so close I've kinda just given up now. I'm done. So very very done.
