I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I quite like Lumi for a name Natsku I believe it means snow in Finnish lol. It looks beautiful to me but I’m sure the novelty is snow wears thin very quickly. Sorry about the lack of pool that sucks.

Gennz 6 weeks here.

Fingers crossed for you Pippa.

justtheonethen · 26/10/2017 12:06

Wow natsku looks gorgeous, if annoying!

I was queasy and gagging 5 days after my embryo transfer, it's what made me test early Grin. Got awful around 6 weeks and was admitted to hospital at 7 weeks. Fingers crossed you avoid it this time gennz!

I too only ate beige salty things up to 14 weeks Shock

justtheonethen · 26/10/2017 12:07

Also want a water birth so that's good to read Smile

Shehz21 · 26/10/2017 12:07

Lovely bump pic from Dead but funny at the same time Grin
Must be very uncomfortable though.

Natsku Shock at the snow pic. Glad you resigned to leaving the bike in town rather than drain yourself of every last bit of your energy dragging a bike through this heavy snow!

Polli Sorry you are going through this rough time. Really hope it gets better soon for you.

Genzz 7 weeks here though was queasy since week 5. I hope it doesn't hit you as hard this time and even if it does, maybe you can have more control over it this time with proper medications so you don't suffer as much?
Goodluck for your upcoming trip.

Bunnyfluffy · 26/10/2017 13:39

I’ve had to cancel 2 work trips abroad and a mini-break with DH as just couldn’t manage them.
Thankfully my boss is lovely and understanding.

Natsku · 26/10/2017 13:54

Don't think I could have coped with a trip abroad at 8 weeks, was bad enough flying home from visiting my parents when I was 5 weeks with DD. Have to fly to the UK next month though and now its difficult because of my damn painful hips and back rather than the sickness so much.

Yeah Lumi means snow Mustang it does sound quite lovely for a name. Ended up with 11cm of snow so far, set to snow all night but its getting warmer again on Saturday so it'll all melt. Well, at least it gave DD a very enjoyable walk to school - took her an hour and a half to get home because she was playing in the snow so much!

DeadDoorpost · 26/10/2017 14:35

Gennz week 6 properly for me too but vomiting had started week 5

dillydollydarling · 26/10/2017 17:28

I've been on the stemetil injections for the past 3 days, they seem to be helping keep the nausea at bay for most of the morning. But I just have no energy to do anything. As OH said, I'm feeding 3 people with barely any calories going in (still breastfeeding my daughter) so no wonder I'm so exhausted!!

Had my scan on Tuesday, baby is all good and they only moved my due date forward by 4 days, so now due on May 4th. OH finds it hilarious and hopes for a star wars day baby!

Mustang27 · 26/10/2017 17:34

Dilly I was doing that at the start of this pregnancy , I found the bf utterly draining. I didn’t last much past 16 weeks my body was so bloody broken and I just wasn’t producing anything luckily he took it far better than expected al though he has taken to telling me he misses boobie now which has had me in tears a couple of times Sad.

I have no advice really only that I fully appreciate how hard it is you are doing amazingly.

Hehe may the 4th be with you

pippanippa · 26/10/2017 17:47

Wow dilly I'm impressed. Like Mustang I had to give up the breastfeeding, I was too exhausted and just felt too unwell so finished by the time I was about 10 weeks. Mustang I'm glad it's not just me that finds the weaning thing hard, my little girl still asks constantly and I still feel irrationally guilty!

Having lots of period pains here, getting excited that body's gearing up for a baby sometime soon. Then I remembered that I had the same starting at about 36 weeks last time and was convinced baby would arrive soon. Of course she arrived well overdue... Still, it's given me a bit of a nudge to pack that hospital bag.

Gennz I hope you avoid illness this time around!

LucindaE · 26/10/2017 17:59

Just dashing on to welcome Gemz. Don't feel guilty; there is a grey area between Hyperemsis and bad pregnancy sickness; they often seem to meander into each other. As you are a veteran I assume you had kesostix last time, and know all about what drinks suited you so no need for me to give my usual speil about flat full sugr coke and the juice of tinned fruit and ice lollies?
Much sympathy to all suffering.

So my midwife never turned up to the appointment. Didn't have the heart to phone the midwife centre to find out what happened to her as I'm assuming she had to be at a birth (most logical explanation) but she could have just forgot which even still I don't mind about. I'm aching, I'm uncomfortable, and having the urine sample sat on the kitchen side staring at DH as he uncomfortably looks at it is making for some amusing moments.
A phonecall could have done though...

Sally8655 · 26/10/2017 18:16

just want to high five Lucinda for mentioning elderflower drinks. The sparkling elderflower is my new must have, amazon prime is delivering a bulk load of the stuff this evening. It seems to settle my nausea slightly while sipping. I've managed to get out for some fresh air too which really helps as I'm starting to really dislike the smell if my bedroom now. If anybody had any ideas for room sprays that won't make me heave please let me know. I can't currently stomach my typical love of Yankee candles and my house for some reason just smells stale to me 😣

dillydollydarling · 26/10/2017 18:26

I wouldn't mind if my daughter weaned now, but she's really not ready to and I don't want to force it, so for now we carry on. I also quite like that it gives me an excuse to sit on the sofa for a while and feed.

Dead that would annoy me that the midwife couldn't let you know she couldn't make it. Even if she was at a birth a quick message wouldn't have taken long!

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 26/10/2017 18:26

YY to air fresheners being revolting during pregnancy. DH bright anew one into the bedroom and I could have happily murdered him with it. Woke in the night to the smell and nearly vomited right then. Started crying but why would you do this too me? You know how sensitive I am right now. I did manage to get a grip thankfully, but the offending air freshener is no more.

I can only cope with fresh air now. The house is freezing but at least it smells ok.

Very rough today. Back to drs who think it may be anaemia. very breathless and exhausted. Blood test tomorrow. Feeling guilty for not playing with DD and just lying in bed. DH being very good, but I want to play playdoh too Sad

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 26/10/2017 18:29

Dilly wow, I can't imagine breastfeeding through this. 🏆

Mustang that's very bad form from the midwifery service. You would be well within reason to complain. I say this as a former NHS complaints handler.

dillydollydarling · 26/10/2017 19:54

Has anyone tried any shakes or something to try and boost calorie intake? I'm getting worried that I can't keep surviving on the little food that I'm managing to eat and keep down but I just can't eat any more than I am. I'm losing weight and can't see how I can sustain 3 of us like this!

OnNaturesCourse · 26/10/2017 20:19

Dilly I did simple blueberry and yoghurt smoothies, occasionally with oats or added protein powder / fiber powder. Some days it stayed down, others it didn't. Found it easier to at least get down me when it was icy cold. I sometimes blended ice cubes through it. Xx

justtheonethen · 26/10/2017 20:26

Totally agree about smoothies with ice blended in. Elderflower is the best, especially sparkling. The belvoir elderflower and rose cordial mixed with soda water helps my nausea.
And air fresheners Envy. I had a similar cry in DH car as he had sprayed febreeze air freshener and it made me feel so unwell. Fresh air is the only thing for me too.

batman ask for liquid iron if you need it, apparently it's easier on the stomach.

dead how annoying Angry. Grin at your DH eyeing the pot of wee.

Elephantgrey · 26/10/2017 20:43

I'm not sure if I have hypermesis gravidarum or not but the doctors did mention it. I am 9 weeks and am really struggling to eat and drink enough to keep me going. I did a bit better today but I have only been managing to eat some breakfast buiscuits and fruit or carrots most days.
I have.been given tablets for nausea and they have helped as I can now drink water. I had been really struggling with drinking. I also can't bear the smell of foods.
How much are you all able to eat? Is there a minimum point when you should start worrying that you are not eating enough?

I have followed some of the tips on this thread and managed to eat some mango and had an ice lolly which helped a lot.

DeadDoorpost · 26/10/2017 20:46

dilly yeah that's what DH said as well but I just couldn't be bothered to follow it up. I'll do so in the morning before I go swimming.
just I've just sent him into the kitchen to make me some toast as I'm hungry again. Which means he'll be staying at it again for the next 3 minutes 😂😂😂 he won't do anything about it though lol

Sally8655 · 26/10/2017 21:06

Elephantgrey
Fluids are the most important thing. Ideally something with sugar as it will help with the dizziness from low blood sugar. Lollies, ice pops, ice cubes, juice etc. My last pregnancy I literally just ate a few strawberries and the odd babybel until i was 20 weeks but as soon as I was over the worst I made up for it with countless bowls of ice cream 😀

Elephantgrey · 26/10/2017 21:11

Sally that is reassuring to know. My DH is worried that I am not getting enough.
I am really struggling with the fluids but at least I have a few things I can bear so will focus on that. I look forward to the day when I can eat bowls of ice cream🍧.

justtheonethen · 26/10/2017 21:33

dead Grin

elephant don't worry, just eat what you can. I survived on tiny bits of grated cheese and the occasional hula hoop. Keep the fluids up.

DeadDoorpost · 26/10/2017 23:47

elephant well hello. I've only just noticed we've had a new member. I'm currently lagging.
I managed on pretty much nothing. The occasional sausage stayed down or the odd ice lolly but other than that I would just vomit everything back up. My appetite became ridiculously small after 14 weeks of eating nothing. If you're able to keep water down then that's good. I couldn't stand water unless I had squash with it. Now I can cope with ice cold bottled water by itself but still prefer strong (ridiculously strong) squash. As for smells, DH had to do the cooking for weeks because I would open the cupboards and throw up from the smell of the spices and herbs. Or he'd open a tin of tuna and I'd throw up because I could smell it from the bedroom. I had a very sensitive nose. It did wear off though thankfully but I'll still have the occasional moment when I can smell strong things but no-one else can.
I'd also advise you that sometimes after a while you might find that the thibgs you could keep down won't work any more. It's perfect toy normal but a pain in the ads as you then have to start all over again trying different things.
just I had ANOTHER load of toast done by DH... My appetite has come back tonight so he's had a load of time starting at the pot that I'm not moving 😂😂😂
