I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Agree with what the others said. If you're not already on it, take 4mg regularly.

Only taking 1-2 is a low dose. I was on 3 x 4mg for a long time, with the option to take 4 of required.

As my vomiting has reduced around 20 weeks, I now get buy on 1-2 a day. I tried to cut down to 1 but found I still often need the 2nd.

If you're vomiting frequently, it sounds like your dose is too low or too infrequent. Also, if you're anything like me, hormone surges may have an effect with increases vomiting at times, even if you're on a good dose. I had a 9 day non vomiting streak recently!

flossyfloss · 22/05/2017 10:24

I hadn't been sick since Thursday until today Sad

I was walking down the stairs with no urge to be sick at all when all of a sudden out of absolutely nowhere I projectile vomited across the carpet BlushEnvy

It was so unexpected and of course the dog was overjoyed and tried to eat it which nearly set me off againEnvyEnvyEnvy

I felt surprisingly better afterwards thoConfused

Thingymaboob · 22/05/2017 12:47

@flossyfloss
That sounds awful!
Poor you.
Similar thing happened to me today. Was walking to work through a church and vomited in the church garden, luckily not on a grave. It's a very busy church in a city centre. Bloody hell. Urgh

Lemondrop99 · 22/05/2017 13:35

It's rubbish when that happens. I get zero notice, so I carry a bowl around the house! I also stopped taking phone calls for work because I kept throwing up during them!

LucindaE · 22/05/2017 14:20

Thingymaboob Sorry about Churchyard Vomit - I've seen people round here openly taking their dogs to defecate, which is far worse and flossyfloss Carpet Vomit.
DeadDoorPost Could you add a drug?
Lemondrop09 Welcome back and congratulations on that nine day break from vomiting. I hope you have an even longer one soon.
Silly me - double posting that DueDates list. I thought it seemed incredibly long, even given how busy this thread has been.
I bet I cross post.

Dead Door Post That wasn't clear. I meant, it really helps some people who add another drug to Ondansetron. I know you have problems with their only working for a short while, but if you were to start taking one again you hadn't had for a while, might it work?

Sorry about the stealth vom Flossy. And sorry again your streak was broken Lemon. I seem to be having one on and one day off at the moment. Was sick this morning sadly, a really horrible water and bile one. Not had one of those for a while...

The lovely PSS charity have featured the blog I wrote about HG for awareness day last week. You can read it here if interested...

borderingonedge.blogspot.co.uk/2017/05/hg-awareness-day.html?m=1

I would love your advice on something. I am currently signed off for this week. Then I am due back for 3 weeks. I am probably feeling a bit better, though obviously still being sick and the nausea is still hanging around, albeit at more manageable levels. Given how horrible my employers are, I am tempted to just start mat leave now. It would mean going at only 32.5 weeks. Is this too early? It would also have a financial impact, but not an insurmountable one. For those who suffered with HG all the way through, when did you stop work?

Waves to all, hope its a goodish day.

Mustang27 · 22/05/2017 16:08

Holly your blog is wonderful and unfortunately most of us can all agree with everything you say. Except your extreme constipation hospital visit that trumps it all.

I hope we help a little on here because I know every kindly reply on this thread has helped me feel a little less alone. Every day is still torture but I know I have you guys to listen and understand at least.

I went off at 34 weeks but I had SPD as well which made getting about or getting to the toilet on time to be sick impossible. It was the best thing I did as it let me get on with it at home and didn't have to deal with the constant you should be better why are t you better questions in the office. Plus your work is vile so get shot asap.

Mustang27 · 22/05/2017 16:10

Why does stealth vom sound so much worse than just vom. I think it's the ondansetron as I seem to have less warning about sickness now and end up have to make it to the toilet with my mouth full, sorry tmi.

Hollyhop17 · 22/05/2017 16:56

There's never tmi after my recent hopsital visit recount... Grin

Thanks Mustang, this thread has been a complete life saver for me. I dont know anyone on RL who has had HG and apart from my DH and a couple of close friends, no one gets it. Speaking to people on a daily basis who understand is incredibly helpful. So thanks to all who have been supportive.

I am leaning towards going off. I have to go in to tie some loose ends up but I think I may go back next week but tell them it will be my last week and just go off two weeks early...

FlapAttack88 · 22/05/2017 16:58

flossy oh no about the stealth vom! I and enough being sick without having to clean up sick too! If it makes you feel better that happened to me a few weeks ago when I was woke up coughing in bed and then projectile vommed over myself and the bed sheets and duvet. Just watery but soaked intoeverything including my pyjamas and duvet haha. That was not fun!!

hollyhop will read your blog! Thank you for the link. That is a hard decision about your work. You can go from 29 weeks but I know it's a big financial thing. If you're still not well and your employers have been horrible if I were you I wouldn't give them the courtesy of starting my maternity this early... if you're not well enough to work which it sound like you're not (even though you say you're a bit better this is pribably because of all the rest and work may cause a relapse ) then get signed off for a few more weeks at least? Or ask for a phased return with lighter duties? Most drs I have spoken to are more keen to sign me off than the fit to work if these conditions are accomodated as that generally ends up big more stress for you and your work than you just being off but I did it for 1 month starting at 10am whigh was a help as most of my vomiting was between 6 and 9am. I still crashed though as all my "easier" hours were at work and these were hours I should have been resting andtruing to hydrate and eat. So I have been signed off now for 3 weeks and due to go back afyer half term when I am 22 weeks

If I were you I would try and get another sick note from Dr for at least 2 more weeks or up to your ideal maternity leave start date (35 weeks?). They can only make you start maternity at 36 weeks so youre still leaving before this anyway when you don't have to.

FlapAttack88 · 22/05/2017 17:05

Cross posted. Maybe ask for one/two more week then go back for a week to tie up loose ends then go?!

I know you may feel a bit guilty and like you're taking the pee but my sister in law left early on maternity first time and her employers were still arse holes about it and made her life difficult and were horrid to her on her return too.

So 2nd time she got signed off from 30 weeks up to 36 weeks pregnant rather than starting mat leave early. It wasn't HG but something else where work was a struggle and made things worse but at home she was coping ok.

Lemondrop99 · 22/05/2017 17:13

Well done Holly! Heartbreaking but amazing article. I saw this pop up on the PSS Facebook page - you're famous!

Re: work. Well given the way they have behaved with you, if you can finically manage, I would run out that door as soon as possible. You owe them nothing and they have just added to your stress. Time you look after yourself and baby. If you can get by without those last few weeks of wages, run as fast as you can (but not too fast, in case you throw up Wink).

FlapAttack88 · 22/05/2017 17:13

Holly just read your blog. I can relate to so much of that.. its so hard to put into words but you've done a great job. The lonliness and prison feel is so hard to explain to people.. I get so mad when people say thibgs that suggest I am having an extenfed holiday at home.. I reckon they think I am living the life of sunbathing in the garden, watching box sets and having a right old jolly haha! In reality I couldn't even watch TV when at my worst and my favourite thing to do is fester in bed with no stimulation , the curtains drawn and a few (thousand ) flopping visits to the toilet to vom in peace. What a life!

Ha I also do they weekly thing but with Tuesdays haha.. I didn't even realise I di thay until I read your blog but I defiBirley get that yes! Feeling on tuesday and oh bugger feeling on Wed haha. I am 20 weeks tomorrow !!

Lemondrop99 · 22/05/2017 17:14

Oooh I like Flap's idea of getting signed off until they force you to go on mat leave from 36 weeks (assuming this is worthwhile because you'll get a bit of sick pay?)

Hollyhop17 · 22/05/2017 17:16

Thanks Flap. My DH is of the same opinion re getting signed off again. You are right and since they have been so awful I am loathe to let them financially 'win' by going off early. My issue is sick pay. They told me a while ago I had run out of full pay and would be on half pay, but I have continued to be paid my full salary. As we have a massive mortgage, which is thankfully reducing next month, this has been a godsend, but I worry they are storing it up or something and one month I will basically have no pay at all.

My last day is June 16 with two weeks holiday saved so SMP starts on July 3, where I will be 37 weeks. We have very intricately worked out our finances to this date so I am keen to stick to them.

Sorry, I'm waffling. It just feels like whatever I do wont be the right decision Sad. The nausea has been quite bad today so in general feeling a little down.

Hollyhop17 · 22/05/2017 17:21

Sorry cross posted with you both. Thanks for the lovely words, its nice to know other people can relate.

I think I will try and get signed off again. My DH seems to think they cant retrospectively take sick pay from me...

Flap, a lot of my family think I'm leading the life of riley as well. I often get, 'ooh still signed off, lucky you' as if there is anything lucky about all day long nausea.

Excellent news about being 20 weeks tomorrow. Half way! I hope that thought psychologically helps.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 22/05/2017 17:36

Fingers crossed I've just been sick for the last time.

FlapAttack88 · 22/05/2017 17:49

That's frustrating about the pay confusion ... I still think better to go sick as hopefully worst case scenario this should still be at 50 per cent (best case they carry on at full pay) but at least it won't eat into your maternity leave... depends when you Want/have to go back i guess and how statutory maternity compares to 50 percent pay?

I am no explaining myself very well haha. But if it was me I want ti take the whole.49 weeks maternity and for me 50 percent pay is the same as statutory anyway. So I wpuld rather be signed off now on half pay and then still have my whole 39 weeks maternity to use from week 36!

But if you don't plan to use all your statutory time anyway and statutory is about the same as 50 percent pay for you too (it may be more or less) then it won't make much difference...oh I am terrible at explaining things haha

But I can see your worry is thst they suddenly drop you down to 0 pay (which woukd be tough with current high mortgage) to make up for fact they hve paid you full when they said only half for however long... but I really doubt they can do this !! So if I were you I would get signed off until your maternity leave starts. Maybe a few days before if you really want ti go bavk to tie up things if you really must but I think from the sounds of that place you'd be better off staying well away fo as long as possible.. !!

Also nausea brain here haha so sorry for waffling! Feel better soon and try not to stress too much.. health is most imprint either way so do whatever you need to do to keep that as much as you can!

Haha yes will be having a party for 1 (and a half) tomorrow in my prison cell/turret of doom tomorrow to celebrate half way point haha!

FlapAttack88 · 22/05/2017 17:50
  • 39 weeks not 49!!
Hollyhop17 · 22/05/2017 18:24

Peace have you gone into labour?!? How exciting if so!

Flap, I do know what you mean. Half pay would be better, so yeah I think I am leaning towards that. I dont feel guilty about them and on a ftc, so not ever going back thank god. It would be lovely to not have to stress about going in or seeing horrible people...

I hope tomorrow is kind to you, you certainly deserve it!

Lemondrop99 · 22/05/2017 18:35

Peace.......is there something you need to tell us? gets stupidly excited

You and Four are right at the top of the list, so exciting

Mustang27 · 22/05/2017 18:35

Oh peace I'm so excited for you and hate you a little as my due date is so far away lol.

Good luck!!!

Melleebacca · 22/05/2017 18:51

Holly - I went off with DD at 34w. But I did 4 day weeks from 24w till starting mat leave with increasing hours. I had gotten my GP to sign me off for phased return as I was so stressed about 3rd trimester relapse. DD wasn't born till 39w6d, so it was a long mat leave beforehand, but I entertained myself with a kitchen Reno and setting up the nursery. I think in your situation, plan to do a few days/hours to get everything tied up, but also figure out what you will do on mat leave to help with the loneliness.
Read your blog. I totally understand that.

Mustang - I was talking to hubby last night a puked a little in my mouth and swallowed instantly on reflex (thought it was just going to be a burp), so there really is no tmi.

Peace - yay! Hopefully baby is on their way. One of the pregnant ladies I know gave birth yesterday. Counting down till it's my turn, although still mentally freaking about labour.

Flap - half way yay! Each day gets you closer. Tuesday is my change over day (27w today!) as well, but on saturdays I start saying I'm almost such and such Weeks. By Tuesday I feel like I'm almost a week ahead.

Coping alright here. Teething toddler would only nap physically on me yesterday. So had two babies on my bladder for an hour. While my house guest lazed around in pjs drinking beer. He leaves today, thank god, and my stress levels will return to normal, probably after I've spent 2 days cleaning up the mess made and washing sheets etc.

Waves to all.

OnNaturesCourse · 22/05/2017 19:07

Good luck Peace!

I was sick all morning but totally worth it as I got my rescan today and baby is doing amazing and finally allowed us to get measurements. Now due 23.11.17 xx,
