I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Gp wouldn't give me anything despite me begging for ondansetron. Apparently they can't prescribe it. Everything else they said would have side effects like prochlorperazine and cyclizine :(
She said NICE recommends ginger and acupuncture.....I was sick in the toilet there and felt worse thinking 'oh god so many random strangers have pooed in here' and cried all the way home

Mustang27 · 02/06/2017 17:26

Wtaf!!! She gingered you and suggested acupuncture HmmAngryHmm so bloody angry for you. Tbf my dr tried that and I was like I have fibromyalgia do you have any idea how painful that would be for me and her answer was "but if it helped the sickness" I may have decked her had she not got me sent to hospital where I was treat responsibly.

There is a helpline the others will be able to help you with this, they will refer you to a gp who doesn't mind prescribing ondansetron but tbf I think everyone has had to start from scratch with pills before getting ondansetron prescribed regardless oh history. I'm on my second hyperemesis pregnancy and last!!!

cantdothisagain2017 · 02/06/2017 17:37

I can't take prochlorperazine again my face was contorted it was twitching so much and the drowsiness from cyclizine was awful and I need to be awake as one of my kids has health issues that I need to be monitoring all the time I can't fall asleep! Spoke to the epau as have a scan next week they said a dr can speak to me about it at my appt but I can't wait that long. Ordered vit b6 in case it helps but not sure what dose to take ?

satsoooma · 02/06/2017 18:09

Go find another GP cant. Maybe even a whole new surgery. Sorry yours was so unhelpful. Also read the NICE guidelines linked at the start of this thread. They say when you should be prescribed meds. If you have lost weight or are dehydrated for example.

LucindaE · 02/06/2017 18:21

can'tdothisagain I am sorry to hear that. Try phoning the Pregnancy Sickness Support people on 024 7638 2020. They will have to phone back but they will and will offer great advice and have helped many people on these threads get meds.
It's awful that she mentioned ginger - but on Acupunture - ahem - it did marvels for me. When I staggered to the Acupunturist, I was in a terrible state and he warned me that I must report to A and E without fail that evening if I remained unable to retain water, but I was and after a couple more treatments, it got a lot better from then on. However, I think I was very lucky and had a strong reaction. I has helped several people on here, but not anything like as much as me and usually only with meds; plus, it is so expensive.
We had a poster on here maybe eighteen months or two years ago called ican'tthinkofausername. I keep typing that!
Off to look for due dates list.

OnNaturesCourse · 02/06/2017 19:11

My due date is now November 23rd 🙌

cantdothisagain2017 · 02/06/2017 19:13

My due date is 26 Jan. If all goes well then I'll be having a planned caesarean at 36 weeks

cantdothisagain2017 · 02/06/2017 19:15

So that would make it late Dec I think really . Seems so far away! If nothing else I hope all this sickness means it's a strong pregnancy

Mustang27 · 02/06/2017 19:15

Mrsb do you have the ketostix to check your ketones? Are you peeing less, headache or feeling confused? These are signs of dehydration.

Lemondrop99 · 02/06/2017 19:30

Can't - I'm raging on your behalf. GPs can and do prescribe ondansetron. Shove THESE guidelines under their nose

www.rcog.org.uk/globalassets/documents/guidelines/green-top-guidelines/gtg69-hyperemesis.pdf

Mother hen has already give good advice, call PSS helpline. If your GP is no good, they can give you details of a HG friendly consultant that you can asked to me referred to.

Still feel crap. Have been in bed all day 😫

(P.s. Think you might be getting me muddled up with someone, Mother Hen. I'm not a nurse. I have a boring office job)

LucindaE · 02/06/2017 19:31

mrsb87 I am really sorry. I deleted that bit of my post. BlushSad
Have you got kesostix? If so, 3+ ketones is generally considered in need of fluids. As others say, if you have dry skin, headache, blurry vison, scanty urine, non elastic skin, etc are all signs. How are the fluids staying down? As you're on Ondansetron, could they add something? If you feel really bad, do phone out of hours.

mrsb87 · 02/06/2017 20:15

I have ketostix from last time, will those still work? I've just managed to keep some coke from mcdonalds down but anything vaguely watery in making my gag just thinking about it! I've pretty much been pinned to the sofa all day (not ideal with a 2yr old around!) With blurry, dizzy vision.

Melleebacca · 02/06/2017 20:42

MrsB - ketostix shouldn't really expire, I used the same pack from last time.

Can't - stupid GP. Hope you've organized to see someone with more wits about them.

Lemon - just rest up. Your body obviously needs it.

Lemondrop99 · 02/06/2017 21:58

Mrsb, have you tried 4mg x 4 a day? Might work better to have more regular doses than 8mg x 2. Also (sorry if you've already covered this) but you can take other meds with it, like cyclizine or promethazine which can help. Also I found Lucosade a good liquid to keep down if I sipped it, and the sugar seemed to help pick me up just enough to move a bit or eat something else.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/06/2017 22:50

Waves to all - oldies and welcome to newbies

Passes sick bucket about and 💐💐💐

I skim read through as on phone and about to feed dd

But sorry you are all feeling rough.

@holly. Nothing wrong with wanting baby out early tho inducing is bloody painful and also long waiting inbetween

Plus as technically evicting baby inducing at 38w often means takes a long time (sorry) as baby isn't ready to come out and goin g by those who got induced at 38w it was slow and many ended up having a cs as tho contractions , cervix wasn't dilating as body isn't ready iyswim

You do forget about hg once baby is here and tho it's in my memories and I certainly wouldn't have another baby due to age and hg as often worse in 2/3 preg

But to try and keep your spirits up and there is light at the end of the tunnel

here is my gorgeous dd - 9.5weeks old and the light of my life

Mustang27 · 02/06/2017 23:06

Oh my goodness blondes look at those wee cheeks, what a cutie.

Thingymaboob · 02/06/2017 23:12

I was given ondansetron straight away by a pregnant sympathetic GP. I do worry about taking it though, due to limited evidence as compared to other meds but it's very effective. I've been vomiting all evening and as soon as I take one and keep it down it really helps and I stop vomiting. I am sure I'd have had a hospital trip by now if it wasn't for ondansetron.
Who else is taking it? Anyone else worried about taking it? Am I worrying for no reason?

Mustang27 · 02/06/2017 23:53

I worry Thingy, iv been on it for 3 weeks now 12mg a day and I worry a lot. I made a really inappropriate joke at the drs today about my baby looking like Sloth from the Goonies and it being all my fault Sad. Tbf dr laughed and reassured me that would never be my fault as being as sick as we are carries risk too so it's a best of a bad bunch situation.

There is no guarantees in pregnancy that's what I keep telling myself anyway. It's just one huge friggin gamble.

DeadDoorpost · 03/06/2017 01:59

Nah I'm on ondansetron as well but mostly just 1 x 4mg tablet a day I think it is. Occasionally 2 if needed.

Today has actually been a really good day. Took a tablet just before started cooking dinner and managed to have homemade chips tonight. I'm so happy.
Weight is still very low though. After the weekend I've only put a lb on so I don't know how to feel. I've been eating. At least it's still a healthy weight and fluids are staying down.

Someone on here mentioned the can't stand water or watery drinks? Same! But I've found that I love Apple and pear squash and that has really helped with drinking enough. Maybe there's something else you've not thought of yet? This was a chance meeting in Aldi.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/06/2017 08:03

So weird how we are all different

Water was the only drink I could manage to keep down. Any squab dizzy drinks etc all came up. Around 5/6mths I started on black tea and when almost ready to pop I managed odd lemonade

And when very hot last summer and think was 10w or so I survived on rowntree fruit lollies the ones with 4 colours and melon - both watery stuff

I do have a stash of cyczline if anyone needs it

FlapAttack88 · 03/06/2017 08:03

Just wanted to drop in and wave hello. So furious to hear how can't was treated st the Dr :( really hope you've phoned the sickness line or gone to a new dr.. is really awful when that happens and one of the main reasons my first pregnancy I just survived with no help as the first dr I saw was like that. So awful and shows how far we still are from where hyperemesis awareness should be.

I have been a bit distracted from the vomiting by the fact i stupidly burned my legs to a crisp. I forgot how much more sensitive my skin is to burning and my legs never burn so didn't reapply suncream to them as religiously as I should have and they are like red little crispy frankfurters. So so sore!!!! My DH is just happy I have something new to moan about !

Hope you are all ok. Will catch up when home and have better signal. Leaving wales today. Has been amazing weather Lucinda! Gower is on the wish list

FlapAttack88 · 03/06/2017 08:08

blondes 😵😨 tea and water = my worst nightmare!!! That s so weird! I live on coke and capri suns! And squash... ughhh! And melon works for me too but someone above was aghast at that suggestion. Is such a missionwith hg to find things can tolerate and didn't help when is changes every pregnancy and every few days for some things and no one is the same!
