The wait for labour

Anyone up for a support thread for those of us waiting to go into labour? I am 37 +2 today. My first baby was born at 39 + 6 but I was in prelabour from 38 + 6. I am on maternity leave and I have lots of things I would like to do but nothing I really need to do. The bags are packed. Just waiting now. Anyone else?

Wow Spam! Hope things get going properly for you soon. Exciting! Flowers good luck

MrsWldn · 20/05/2017 10:20

I've been getting increasingly uncomfortable in the pelvic area. Last night couldn't sleep as felt like the baby is head butting my cervix Confused she's also turned sides. I was getting used being jabbed in my right side but it still takes me by surprise when she sticks her feet out through my left side Grin

peaceloveandbiscuits · 20/05/2017 11:28

I've been having the stabby head engaging pains for a couple of weeks. Allegedly I'm 4/5 engaged, but as it's my second baby I think it's popping in and out at will Angry

JonSnowsWhore · 20/05/2017 11:45

Peace 4/5 engaged or 4/5 palpable? I'm only 4/5 palpable at the mo, so he's got a long way down to go on Monday 🙈
God I'm dreading this, my last 2 were both born just after 40 weeks so were ready, this one will be 37 so what if it's not ready down there & he can't come out! I really don't want a section

peaceloveandbiscuits · 20/05/2017 12:12

4/5 engaged! I know, I got excited. Then remembered about the popping in and out thing Angry

peaceloveandbiscuits · 20/05/2017 12:13

And third baby, I'm sure you'll be well-prepared down there, as it were Wink

JonSnowsWhore · 20/05/2017 12:44

😂 wonderful, my poor partner!

lalaland1985 · 20/05/2017 12:54

40+5 here! No signs of anything. I've tried everything... pineapple, spicy food, bouncing on the birthing ball, sex, raspberry leaf tea! Sad

SunshineAllTheWhile · 20/05/2017 13:32

I'm out of hospital now and given the all clear on the PE thank goodness. Still broken from 4 days and nights of broken/non-existent sleep 😴 & straight back into life with a toddler.

Oh I wonder how Spam is getting on; hope she is with her little one now or its imminent!

And good luck for Monday JonSnow I was induced at 38 weeks last time (I was in labour already though) and I have put in my birth plan to have an epidural if I have to be induced again (just gas & air last time) - but, I think you will be made of tougher stuff than I am - especially as this isn't your first rodeo!

And to the rest of you ladies with aching cervixes, crippling SPD/PGP, sickness, relentless heartburn, bone crushing fatigue & all that other good stuff, flowers (hopefully some wine soon).

JonSnowsWhore · 20/05/2017 15:00

😂😂😂 sunshine I had to laugh at that, I'm the biggest wuss there is & im sitting up the hospital now waiting to talk to the dr about my epidural, and if I don't get it I will sue them Grin the midwife phoned when I was on my way to say they could cancel the appointment if I wanted & just book me in for Monday over the phone & I was like no no, I have questions, I need my epidural!!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 20/05/2017 16:08

Wine soon? I'm on it already Wine

MissMooMoo · 20/05/2017 16:09

40+3 today.
I had a sweep this morning. Midwife managed to get a finger in and sweep around. Said cervix is high but soft and baby is 3/5 engaged. She could feel the head.
Went for a long walk after and had lots of pains/cramping but came home and had a lie down and they have subsided.

SunshineAllTheWhile · 20/05/2017 16:36

Ha ha JonSnow! Good for you! I hope you're all sorted for it now. Yeah, no way I'd be induced again without an epidural! I must be with you on the wuss scale because I opened my eyes at one point and I had made both my husband & mum start crying; such was my belief that I was going to die 😂😂😂 The midwife and consultant were both like Confused.

Oh peace how I would love to be able to bypass the sickness and get stuck into a decent sized glass of Wine!!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 20/05/2017 17:09

Aw love. I've had HG in both pregnancies too, but haven't been sick for about a week now WineCake

JonSnowsWhore · 20/05/2017 17:59

My mum isn't allowed in with me when I'm in labour anymore, she's far too strict & will come out with the 'you were the one that got pregnant!' Line if I moan too much Hmm
She's not that bad in real life I promise haha.

Miss you better get bouncing on a ball! & have sex tonight Grin

MissMooMoo · 20/05/2017 18:05

Jon DH and I went on a long walk earlier, have been bouncing on my ball which brings on contractions but they go away when I get off.
I have already suggested sex to him and he can't believe his luck! Tried it a few days ago too so not holding my breath.

JonSnowsWhore · 20/05/2017 18:26

Hahaha can't remember the last time we did it, 4 or 5 months in maybe Grin poor sod. Maybe his luck will be in tonight in my attempt to get things ready & ripe down there 🙈 I can't even go on any long walks I nearly die just trying to do a bit of house work

Badgerbird · 20/05/2017 18:53

Don't forget the nipple tweaking whilst bouncing miss!! Grin

SunshineAllTheWhile · 20/05/2017 19:25

Ha! That reminds me... a friend of mine is a obstetrician & she told me of a delivery room scene she will never be able to erase from her memory: a woman's labour had slowed a little so she got her husband to stimulate her clitoris & her sister to tweak her nips simultaneously! 🙈🙈🙈

So... if anyone gets REALLY desperate...

JonSnowsWhore · 20/05/2017 20:09

That is the weirdest bloody thing I've heard in a while Shock

Applesandpears23 · 20/05/2017 21:17

My mother is driving me mad calling me every day for an update and to remind me to call her IMMEDIATELY if I go into labour WIBU to wait until after the baby is born to call her? Am only 37 + 5 today so I think I am going to get really pissed off with this if it goes on for the next 4 weeks.

Cel982 · 20/05/2017 22:00

With baby #1 we didn't let anyone know I was in labour until she had arrived safely. I fully intend on the same policy this time around although MIL is desperate to be informed at the first contraction. I don't want to feel under pressure to share our news until we're both ready, especially if everything isn't immediately ok or baby is unwell, and if I know people are waiting on tenterhooks for updates it'll just be pressure we don't need.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 20/05/2017 22:00

Cel who will have your eldest when you're in labour?

Cel982 · 20/05/2017 22:19

A friend is going to look after her - our family isn't in the UK so wouldn't be an option anyway. But you're right, if we were living closer to home then I suppose we would be using the grandparents for childcare and therefore they'd have to know about it...

I probably sound really weird and controlling, do I Blush? I'm just very private about some things and I hate the idea of anyone feeling they have a 'right' to know when I've gone into labour.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 20/05/2017 22:42

Not at all! I just wondered if you'd factored that into your plan not to tell anyone Grin

I'm very anxious about who will have my 2yo when I go into labour. No local family. Hnnngh.
