The wait for labour

Anyone up for a support thread for those of us waiting to go into labour? I am 37 +2 today. My first baby was born at 39 + 6 but I was in prelabour from 38 + 6. I am on maternity leave and I have lots of things I would like to do but nothing I really need to do. The bags are packed. Just waiting now. Anyone else?

I had a show! Getting excited now as this was how I started last time.

Sorry peace, how frustrating Sad

Good news apples! Hopefully not long now.

Just had another sweep and am 3-4cm dilated. Fingers crossed something happens today, otherwise it's induction for me tomorrow.

teenybean · 01/06/2017 12:47

How is everyone doing today?
We had a fun afternoon yesterday, went to 36 week midwife appointment (we were 37+2, but midwife is only there every other week, so that's when we have to see her) Anyway, my blood pressure was low, my pulse was 125, baby's heartrate was 155, so we got sent to the hospital, we were there for 7 hours, my pulse went up to nearly 140, & baby's heart rate went up to 180, so they did blood tests, & gave me a drip incase I was dehydrated, we also had ctg & ecg.
Blood tests came back & I'm quite severely anaemic, my iron is low, folic acid levels are low & vitamin b is low, so I've got to go back in today & have an iron infusion & possibly more blood tests :-(
but on the up side I'm having braxton hicks very regularly, (every few mins) & on the ctg, they were registering as actual contractions, (they're definitely not though) but hopefully in the next few days we could have our new tiny teeny bean! (Bean1 & bean2 are getting very excited at the thought of meeting their new brother or sister soon!)

faithinme · 01/06/2017 15:21

Oh god @teenybean that sounds like my idea of hell having all them tests done! Glad things seem to be moving on ok though and hope you meet your LO soon!
Had an attempted sweep today I'm 40 weeks exactly - was quite uncomfortable to say the least. She said she could feel the baby's head and baby is well engaged but thinks the cervix is still behind the baby's head.
Really hoping I have some more signs soon as really don't want to be induced Confused

faithinme · 01/06/2017 21:13

Had a nice hot madras for dinner and just scoffed half a pineapple - hope this works haha.
@peaceloveandbiscuits any more luck?

gigi556 · 02/06/2017 06:37

I also had a curry last night! Sex this morning. Booked for sweep this afternoon. If this baby doesn't come out soon, I'm gonna cry CakeCakeCake

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 02/06/2017 06:56

Blimey gigi, sex before 6.30am at any point is impressive, let alone when heavily pregnant Grin

Peace hope you're ok?

Teeny that all sounds so stressful, hope things are alright.

My second sweep yesterday didn't work so it's induction for me today. See you on the other side!

gigi556 · 02/06/2017 07:24

ItsNice, tbh we haven't done it in a couple months. Neither of us could sleep and we are getting desperate!

gigi556 · 02/06/2017 07:24

Good luck with the induction 😃

TabbyTurmoil · 02/06/2017 07:29

Hi, I'm 37+6 and raring to go (well sort of - I still have a to-do list including getting the birthing pool sorted out!).

DC1 was 11 days late and just managed to swerve induction by a few hours, and was also a heffalump so I'm hoping for this baby to come out a bit sooner and at a more genteel weight.

My bump has dropped loads and i've had some quite painful BH.

Sounds like some babies are imminent round here - good luck ItsNice!

giddyasakipper · 02/06/2017 08:02

I also had a curry last night and a sweep booked for this afternoon! Surely it has to work for one of us?!

notasillysausage · 02/06/2017 08:55

There are some valiant attempts at evicting these babies going on! I had quite a good nights sleep for the first time in a while so feeling quite good today.

I'm 40+8 today, no signs of this baby. In my trust they let you go to 40+14 before induction which makes me feel a little nervous.

Good luck itsnice with your induction today!

gigi556 · 02/06/2017 09:30

notasilly, isn't it funny how everyone is different? You can have no signs and then bam or like me tons of signs (false hope) for weeks and still nothing at 40+8. With all these signs, I'm hoping my sweep this afternoon is a success. Will be interesting to see if I've dilated at all...

My trust recommends induction from 40+12, but I think I'd opt for monitoring for at least a couple days beyond. Will cross that bridge if I get there... Remember, your odds of spontaneous labour increase with every passing day!

Applesandpears23 · 02/06/2017 10:02

I was crampy all afternoon yesterday but have just managed to sleep for 12 hours! With breaks to pee but no contractions.

My consultant told me to arrange for the midwife to give me a sweep at 39 weeks and book an induction for 40 weeks as I'm an ancient 39 Hmm
Went 10 days over though so not complaining
The midwife has however told me they aren't allowed to do a sweep pre 40 weeks. Induction booked my due date though, 2 weeks today.

Good luck to anyone with sweeps/inductions today!

TabbyTurmoil · 02/06/2017 10:56

Caipirinhas I'm an ancient 38 (although it has to be said none of my midwives has ever mentioned my age or made me feel old) and my midwife suggested sweeping me at 39 weeks because DC1 was a bit big - 9lbs 6. It's certainly not been suggested I can't go past 40 weeks because of my age! But if you're happy with induction at least it gives you an end in sight!

TabbyTurmoil · 02/06/2017 10:57

I guess the main point I was trying to make there ^^ is how much things differ from trust to trust.

CaipirinhasAllRound · 02/06/2017 11:02

Agree. 39 seems to be a magic age that means you're considered geriatric.
I had an awful delivery after being induced last time but who knows what this birth will be like.

tiba · 02/06/2017 11:49

No sign of baby arriving yet. 39+2 weeks today.

First day after 4 weeks of maternity leave that I have nothing to do, so looking forward to bath and a nap to catch up on lack of sleep.

Starting to worry I dont have everything ready for baby, but can't think of what !

Feeling nervous that in around a weeks time I will potentially have a real human to look after.

MrsWldn · 02/06/2017 12:19

I've been ticking along quietly as well. Been having regular contractions during the day for the past 2 days (every 15-20 minutes or so). I don't really understand the difference between early labour contractions and BH so could be either really. Thought I had the show yesterday but it must have been just part of it as this morning had a more impressive "show". Really hoping things will get moving soon!

According to NHS I'm now 40+3 but I know when I conceive and not really due until this Sunday. I hope I won't make it to my 41wk appointment on Tuesday

teenybean · 02/06/2017 12:31

Had to go have a vitamin b12 injection today, my pulse is still 125, so they aren't very happy about that, & if I don't feel well over the weekend, I've got to take myself back to the hospital for monitoring & more tests! On a nicer note, I had been having an incredible amount of braxton hicks weds & Thurs & last night they really ramped up, had a few actual contractions, & woke up with an awful stomach ache, ran down to the toilet & had what can only be described as (very sorry, massive tmi) bum wee! But then I've only had a few braxton hicks today, hopefully things are happening though! I just want my baby here now!

Applesandpears23 · 02/06/2017 14:29

Teenybean - that sounds promising.

gigi556 · 02/06/2017 17:18

Sweep was really promising. 2cm dilated so hopefully this baby is coming soon! Midwife could feel the head and cervix is soft. Fingers crossed! I'm SO READY.

CaipirinhasAllRound · 02/06/2017 20:03

I just want to eat! Anyone else the same?

faithinme · 02/06/2017 20:06

@CaipirinhasAllRound yes! To the point where I think I should really stop stuffing myself with rubbish
