sorry for being presumptuous enough to start a new thread but I had so much to catch up on and fill you in on...

hiya all - finally settled and have pc at home!! Singapore was wonderful if exhausting. The heat took a lot out of me but it was great to have the break before we headed into the move again. We are in our house and settled - almost unpacked - just books and non essentials left to sort out.

had my first real ante natal appt last week - found a great GP - very approachable and very pro - woman's choice re: everything - amount and type of testing - I had three hospitals to choose from. She then did a proper antenatal consultation and I got to hear the baby's heart beat - great I also have my referral for my scan but have yet to have a date.

Halfway( 20 weeks) today - EDD is 5th November.

Over here the antenatal care is either shared between the GP and the hospital consultant or is all hospital based - there are a couple of midwife led birthing units but very hard to get into - done by ballot system and at this late stage no way I would even get a look in.

Gp was brilliant - took all I had to tell her about last pregnancy in her stride and rather than preaching and assuming what I wanted ( like the GP and midwife in UK) she asked me what I wanted.

Unlike the UK - homebirths are extremely rare - I have decided to have a hospital birth in the major hospital for the state - should anything like last time happen again I am right there rather than having to be transferred or having the baby transferred.

Now I just have to wait for them to get back to me with an anomaly scan date. Hopefully all being well - next week.

Glad to hear all is well with everyone else - baby is moving and heard it swishing around whilst the GP was trying to hear the heartbeat. Definitely in maternity clothes now - got some good jeans from George/ASDA before we left.

Take care....

Glad you had a lovely scan Panda Bear.
Had a shouting match with the gas people!! Before they bothered to look up 'my details' and found logged the numerous phone calls I have up about this, woman having a go at me telling me I never paid my gas bill and that the new tenants haven't signed up and these things can't be helped when people don't tell them when they move in or out, which I did. They are now off to 'investigate' further. FFS!!!

eidsvold · 30/06/2004 02:24

wonderful news Pandabear....

sorry things are still dragging on Sam have

Great news Pandabear. Long legs and a fat tum could be me too!

Hope everyone is ok, I had more bleeding today so another trip to Maternity for a listen to the heartbeat. All is fine, I just wish this bleeding would stop, it is getting so bloody boring .

Samcj · 30/06/2004 22:13

Bunny2 sorry you are still having these problems, you must want to stick a plug up there!! I'm being ignorant, I know but have they ever found the cause? If not I would start getting upset about it with them, there must be some reason, have they looked at your cervix?

bunny2 · 30/06/2004 22:34

Hi Sam, the hospital wont look at my cervix because they are concerned only with what is going on behind it IYKWIM. Today the midwife did suggest my gp get a speculum to have a look so I'll make an appt next week for that treat! It is not common to bleed this late but it does happen and is most likely down to cervical erosion or vaginal polyps. I probably wouldnt be so scared if I hadnt had 2 miscarriages before this but as it stands, I ma a virtual basket-case. I did suggest to the mw that when the baby reaches 24 wks, they could take him/her out and put him in an incubator for the remainder, I dont suppose they will though.

Samcj · 30/06/2004 22:44

I can't believe they haven't got in your knickers yet!!!! . If as you say those are the two main causes of bleeding at this stage surely they should have a quick look and if it is it should put your mind at rest to an extent? Perhaps then if you had bleeding as before you would know what it is and not need to rush to the hospital all the time? You should be able to enjoy your pregnancy if at all possible, is there a blindingly obvious reason I've missed why they haven't looked before? Poor you.

bunny2 · 01/07/2004 00:50

Hi Sam, must admit Im a bit pissed off. I am going out of my mind with fear and the hospital is always willing to see me but not to try and establish what is causing the bleeding. I've been Googling and bleeding at this stage could be a sign of placenta praevia which is potentially dangerous. I wish they would be a bit keener to investigate. Every time I see blood (most of today there has been some) I panic. It cant be good for me or the baby to go through this stress on an almsot daily basis. I might go to see my gp tomorrow to see if he can locate the source

eidsvold · 01/07/2004 02:35

just wanted to share after GP visit yesterday - she too assured me that there really wasn't anything to worry about with the spot of calcification and went on to say that the ultrasounds are soooo sophisticated these days that they pick up so much - some is important and worth acting on and others are not so important. She pointed to the fact that there were no other physical signs ( nuchal fold, nasal bone, size, etc) that pointed to this babe also having Down's syndrome.

Dh and I are of the mindset that at least we know what we are dealing with if it happens and on the upside we won't be worrying about our baby facing major open heart surgery like we did with dd.

Bunny sorry to hear that this is still going on - I would be very pushy with the Gp and demand they investigate further - bring up your concerns as you have listed them here.. I found in the UK if you sounded like you had done some homework they seem to take you more seriously....

I am just so glad I have found a brilliant GP here - unlike the UK you can choose your GP and this one is just down the road and I chose her out of the phone book... what a fluke!! Especially as the care here is shared between the Gp and the hospital not a midwife... although I do know one midwife who works at the hospital where I will be having this babe.....

eidsvold, I am really glad your scan went well, that is great news

Twinkie, GOOD LUCK for tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you. I hope you have the news you want. My anomoly scan is Tuesday 11.00 and I am counting the minutes now.

I saw my gp yesterday, he found the hb (15 bloody minutes it took him, I was beginning to freak). I am happy to report the bleeding seems to have stopped today for the first time in over a week.

arwenevenstar · 03/07/2004 09:41

Hi Bunny, I've just caught up on your threads and wanted to say that I had the same with DS1. I was in and out of hospital with bleeding throughout, I think I eventually stopped at around 21 - 24 weeks! They never actually found a cause for it and DS is as healthy as anything, born ON his due date and there was no probs in labour either. It could be cervical erosion or polyps. The only thing that I found worrying was that I had some irregular cells on a smear after having DS1, but they soon cleared up so I wondered if that had been caused by the bleeding. It's weird isn't it.

I would LOVE to be one of those people who can relax and enjoy their pregnancies, but despite this being number 3, I still worry all the time.

I really hope they do find something just so that it can put your mind at rest, but have reassurance that I think it is more common thn you realise. This is awfully gabbly, hope you can make sense of it
Good Luck and try to relax.

Twinkie · 03/07/2004 13:51

Hi Bunny - thanks for the best wishes for the scan today - I am terrified - I know I shouldn;t be and will probably all be ok but you know what its like!!

HOPE YOURS GOES WELL TOMORROW!!

Hello everyone else - hope you are all fine and enjoying this nice warm weather!!

plantpot · 03/07/2004 17:59

bunny + twinkie hope the scans go well are you going to ask the sex of the babes mines not untill july 6th but im at the hospital on wed for a general check up hope evry1 else is ok

Bronze · 03/07/2004 18:15

Well I've finally got the energy togther to write even though i got back from Scarborough a week ago.
Bunny I'm sorry to hear youre still going through all this stress but I'm convinced everything will be fine.
Plantpot- sorry your GTT came back positive but i spose at least now you can control it, a bugger I know
bad things -My results came back negative (that bits good) and my mw dismissed all my sypmtons saying its probably just my low blood pressure (so low its not got a proper measurement) thats making me feel weak. Not great when I have to sit down after carrying DS upstairs. (know i should thank my lucky stars its nothing serious) Both Ds and myself have got our second stinking cold this prgnancy (at 18 weeks ah) Oh and the washing machines broken down. Got my date for my second scan and I cant change it so I have to go without DH on the bus, nightmare journey.
On the good side of things we will be moving into rented with some financial help from the inlaws so we can go all out to sell our house without the viewers having dog and baby things in their faces as they look round. We're struggling at the moment to find anywhere because of the dog but I'm sure it'll happen, as long as we're out before Novenber I dont care.
And tomorrow i'm off to my inlaws for a few days off o that will be lovely. Taking the washing with me so I'm sure it'll be washed dried and ironed which will be great. Vry excited tat in a couple of weeks I'll know whether this whirling dervish in my belly is a boy or a girl (yes I can feel it kicking wohoo)and i'm finally looking pregnant not fat.
Well thats my spiel sorry its been so long but I have probelms getting motivate to type anything so when I do it all comes out

Samcj · 03/07/2004 20:20

DP has just found stretch marks on my bottom. . Didn't realise they would pop up there. Don't see why he had to tell me. It's not like i would see them there otherwise. Men.

bunny2 · 03/07/2004 21:18

hello everybody, thanks for all the good wishes and sympathetic messages . The bleeding has ceased at last, a tiny spot this morning and nothing since so I am feeling gooooood. Arwenevenstar, thanks for your message, I am glad I ma not the only one who has had bleeding so late on. Now just got to get the scan over with and hope I am not the 1 in 44 whose baby has a problem.

Twinkie, how did it go? I was thinking of you today.

Bronze, enjoy your break.

gingernut · 04/07/2004 01:39

Hi bunny, quick post to wish you good luck for your scan tomorrow.

Twinkie, hope everything was OK at yours.

Bronze, sorry to hear you're still not feeling great. What have you been tested for?

PandaBear · 04/07/2004 11:46

Bunny - just wanted to say good luck for your scan today. Let us know how you get on.

Twinkie hope everything was ok with yours.

Hope everyone else is alright. Has anyone started thinking of names yet??

eidsvold · 04/07/2004 12:16

hope all went/goes well for scans today/tomorrow......

some idea of names Panda but nothing that we absolutely love like we did with dd.

bunny2 · 04/07/2004 16:31

My scan was just fine and everything looks spot on. I almost cancelled it this morning, I was so nervous but along we went and I am so glad we did. From 1:44 risk, my risk has gone down to 1:130ish which is good enough for me! I am sooooo happy.

Twinkie, we havent heard from you, I hope all is ok.

Names for a boy:

Joshua
Jacob
Ned
Samuel

for a girl:
Anna
Abigail
Holly

PandaBear · 04/07/2004 16:55

Excellent news Bunny2 - I'm so happy for you!! It's a relief to get the 20 week scan out of the way isn't it!

Love all your names by the way. We haven't even got round to arguing... I mean discussing what we will call our little bub

PotPourri · 04/07/2004 18:13

Bunny - cool about the scan! Very pleased for you.

Twinkie - hope yours went ok m'dear.

I'm doing fine, I haven't written for a while but have been lurking where possible. Looking forward to feeling proper kicking and getting a pregnancy bump. I still look like I ate all the pies. And my skin - yuk! Worse than a teenager. I am trying to drink tonnes of water and eat fruit, but all to no avail, so much for glowing - more like beaming!! Oh well, no complaints really.

I'm not having a 20 week scan, so am enjoying hearing about all of your little 'uns!

By the way, did anyone see the 4D pictures all over the news. It looks so amazing, I would definately buy that fella's book to see how the baby is developing at each month...

collision · 04/07/2004 18:21

PP......my skin is awful too and I seem to think I have to explain it when I speak to people! Embarrassing!

I felt it kick properly about 20 mins ago! I was lying on the bed and had my hand on my tummy and felt pat pat pat......so happy!

Names are going to be a problem. If dh had his own way it would be Alex and Jasmine. If I had my own way it would be Madeleine and Theo. We both quite like Joshua, Jake and Sophia and Annabel. Would like another Max really like ds!!

Twinkie.....where are you......are you OK?

Samcj · 04/07/2004 20:04

Twinkie, hope you are ok, hope everything went ok.

I've had a recent outbreak of spots too, and certainly don't feel very blooming. Have had niggling back ache for a few days which won't go away with lying/sitting/standing or good old paracetamol. Still snotty too. And whiney. And I have stretchmarks.

Starting to get myself worried about my scan next week. I know I didn't think I would get worried about this one, but I'm worrying that things don't seem quite as busy in there! We both have the day off though for the scan which is definately something to be grateful for.

So pleased your scan was good Bunny 2. I hope things settle down for you now.

We both like the name Ben for a boy, so that seems pretty much decided as we don't agree on things so easily normally(!). Do like Joshua too though. For girls I like Jessica and DP likes Bethany. So expecting a few rows about that, but all being well we plan to find out the sex at the scan as DP is insistant he wants to know. I don't mind, but figure that as it was so much my decision to keep my little unplanned bundle of joy it would be nice to let him have a say.

gingernut · 04/07/2004 20:31

bunny ! Fab news. I'm a bit envious actually as we're due about the same time but my anomaly scan isn't for another 4 weeks. Hmmmph!

Twinkie, where are you?

Can't post more now, ds is on the rampage!

vivie · 05/07/2004 00:05

Hi everyone
Sorry I've not been around much recently. A v close friend of mine had a nasty scare at her anatomy scan a few weeks ago and I've been too upset and worried to want to be on the PC. Basically they found soft markers for Edwards syndrome and after agonising, and I mean agonising, over what to do she decided to have amnio and she found out that her baby will be okay the day before my scan. I don't want to go into details but it really brought it home to me that scans are v serious and it annoys me that some women (obviously none of you) seem to think that it's a nice chance to 'say hello to baby'. It's been so hard for her and her dh to go through this, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Anyway, my scan turned up no problems at all and I know I'm having another boy! I'm really pleased, although I'd be just as pleased if I was going to have a daughter. Haven't though about names yet, only to say to dh that it's going to be even harder this time because we've already used our 2 fav boys names!

Hope you're all feeling fit and well. Glad to hear your good news bunny2, and hello eidsvold, nice to have you back.
