sorry for being presumptuous enough to start a new thread but I had so much to catch up on and fill you in on...

hiya all - finally settled and have pc at home!! Singapore was wonderful if exhausting. The heat took a lot out of me but it was great to have the break before we headed into the move again. We are in our house and settled - almost unpacked - just books and non essentials left to sort out.

had my first real ante natal appt last week - found a great GP - very approachable and very pro - woman's choice re: everything - amount and type of testing - I had three hospitals to choose from. She then did a proper antenatal consultation and I got to hear the baby's heart beat - great I also have my referral for my scan but have yet to have a date.

Halfway( 20 weeks) today - EDD is 5th November.

Over here the antenatal care is either shared between the GP and the hospital consultant or is all hospital based - there are a couple of midwife led birthing units but very hard to get into - done by ballot system and at this late stage no way I would even get a look in.

Gp was brilliant - took all I had to tell her about last pregnancy in her stride and rather than preaching and assuming what I wanted ( like the GP and midwife in UK) she asked me what I wanted.

Unlike the UK - homebirths are extremely rare - I have decided to have a hospital birth in the major hospital for the state - should anything like last time happen again I am right there rather than having to be transferred or having the baby transferred.

Now I just have to wait for them to get back to me with an anomaly scan date. Hopefully all being well - next week.

Glad to hear all is well with everyone else - baby is moving and heard it swishing around whilst the GP was trying to hear the heartbeat. Definitely in maternity clothes now - got some good jeans from George/ASDA before we left.

Take care....

Ohh Libb! I'll look forward to it! I hope it went down well! Lovely to hear from you, definately send me those piccies. Hope you are all ok. Lots of love.xx

PotPourri · 09/08/2004 15:05

Pandabear- I have been eating loads of ice creams too. I have basically been walking around in next to no clothes in the house also, with all the windows open and a fan on, and no covers in bed at night.

HAd to buy some new knicks as my other ones were getting uncomfy. I managed to get little shorts which are bliss, so have not had to resort to massive granny pants (yet!)

I think I must be dehydrated (despite drinking LOADS) as I constantly feel like I have a hangover or morning sickness again. Oh well, can't complain really. I am off to France for a week with my sis & friends next week - so I am really hoping the weather will last then. Would be jsut typical if it turned just in time for my hols!

Hope you are all getting on well, and bumps are too. Mine is getting more active by the day!

eidsvold · 09/08/2004 22:48

mine is very active -especially at about 5am!! Feeling fine - warm here but not too hot YET... but it is still winter. Luckily babe is due in Nov - real heat of summer has not hit yet.... this year in Feb it got up to 40 degrees.... house is made more for the heat than the cold though so babe should be fine!!

Saw my new little niece (about 3 weeks old) for the first time yesterday and dd was curious about this baby I was nursing and stroked her leg but that was it - went back to playing with her toys... have to see how she goes today spending more than an hour or so with her.

My other niece who is a couple of months older than dd and dd met for the first time yesterday and they got on really well. Neice is a doll - kept taking dd's hand and saying they had to go and play and then when we left gave her a big cuddle and kiss..... very sweet.

Otherwise all is well here - off to see the GP this week - will discuss VBAC and see if I can get some sense out of her rather than the doc that I saw at the hospital.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Eidsvold. THat's lovely that your kids willhave cousins about the same age. They can be little friends together.

Weather has taken a bit of a turn now - it's rainy and stormy, so I am much happier and cooler! Am starting to count the months to my maternity leave. I really can't wait to stop working. Anyone else feel really demotivated and tired of work??

PandaBear · 10/08/2004 11:16

Hi All - Eidsvold that sounded really sweet, and just what childhood is all about! I have to admit to feeling a little low today. I think the reason is that over the past few days, I have not felt baby moving around as much as usual. I still feel movements, but less of them - do you think this is normal or is it something I should get checked out?

PotPourri · 10/08/2004 14:47

Panda, get it checked out. I was really dizzy a few weeks ago, and although it was loads of hassle to get the midwife to pay any attention, it was worth it. Also my baby hadn't moved for about a week (I had diareah ?sp? so it was probably tired). I too felt down and was thinking the unthinkable.

Chances are it's nothing, but for your piece of mind it is worth getting that reassurance. And being worried and down is not good for the little one. Let us know how it goes

bunny2 · 10/08/2004 23:15

Helloo, Pandabear, I had this last week and was about to go to hospital when at last I got some nice strong kicks. It is really scarey isnt it? In my Miriam Stoppard book, she explains that babies in the womb have active days and lazy days just like the rest of us, it is perfectly normal. However .... if you are worrying do get some reassurance from the hospital as the worry will do you no good (says she, the queen of worry).

My baby is active tonight - chocolate digestives and a diet coke I think. I am big and hot with an achey bump but nearly in the last trimester!

Flossam · 10/08/2004 23:17

Panda, although everything is fine you won't feel happy till you KNOW everything is fine, so go along to get it checked out. We're supposed to be enjoying this bit now!

I'm ok, although I think I have either a UTI or bad wind, had really bad tummy pain earlier, couldn't walk. Got myself in a bit of a state (!) but have felt him doing whatever he does in there!

PP yes I am looking forward to my mat leave, as I have holiday to take it starts on the 25th October or maybe a few days earlier depending on what shifts I work. I have also worked out this afternoon that I have around 31 shifts (long days) to go!!

Flossam · 10/08/2004 23:19

Panda bear I meant to say I'm sure nothing is wrong. Unfortunately I'm not that clever. Hope you are ok.

gingernut · 10/08/2004 23:46

PandaBear, hopefully your bean has started wriggling vigorously again by now but if not, definitely get it checked out. Mine was a bit quieter for a few days recently although he was still moving so I wasn't too concerned. Lots more kicks today so just one of those things I suppose. But you can't be too careful.

Well, my toe is still a bit sore so I suppose I probably chipped a bone or something. It's a lot better than it was though. Since last post, I caught a tummy bug from ds and felt pretty rotten with that too. Fine now though and scoffing everything in sight. Saw m/w last week and everything was fine. She said You're big for 24 weeks' (gee, thanks!). Then she measured me and said Oh, you're just about right actually'. Silly moo. I am small (about 5' nothing) so it just looks (and feels) big. I'm starting to feel very heavy and uncomfortable and can't believe there are still 3.5 months to go.

I forgot to say that from the measurements taken at the scan, it looks like this baby has a huge head! Right at the top of the scale. I am glad I have a growth scan at 36 weeks to check this again!

eidsvold · 10/08/2004 23:47

Panda I would get it checked out just for your own peace of mind.... hope it turns out to be nothing....

glad to hear all is well with you all. I am not working as we emigrated so I have enjoyed being at home with dd... although had I still been working I would have been on summer holidays but can remember what it felt like with dd - worked up until 36 and a bit weeks.... hot, tired, grumpy ( also the end of a very stressful school year - probably contributed)

gingernut · 10/08/2004 23:48

Sam, I've never had a UTI so can't help you there, but just to say I do occasionally get very bad trapped wind in pg and it can be agonising...has been quite bad these last few days in fact. Hope that's all it was.

PandaBear · 11/08/2004 09:28

Hi All - thanks for your messages. All is OK though. I spent last night, actually relaxing on the sofa (as opposed to running around as normal) and little one was very very active, so my worries have been wiped away! It's funny how you just can't stop worrying when pregnant, and it doesn't get any better once they are born either!!

Glad you are all OK!

Mum2Ela · 11/08/2004 09:36

Pandabear glad everything is ok. Sometimes I 'forget' to notice if baby is moving around (too bush chasing DD around usually!) so I make sure I have some quiety time (lying down, quiet room) - which usually wakes baby up!

Baby is very active usually, and lying breech at the mo. My neighbour is a midwife and taught me what to feel for when pressing my belly. I can usually feel the head and the bum, and little limbs too!

georginars · 11/08/2004 16:04

Hi - I've only just started looking at mumsnet today after buying the pregnancy book and it's great.
Also wanted to say, I did a message search on 'West Middlesex' as that's where I'm having the baby and found PotPourri's archived post saying 'And the midwife has said that we should go with my own dates rather than the ultrasound - so new (hopefully final this time) EDD is 1 December. Mysteriously it came out as 2 days later on her system to what the calculations I had done were'. Highly entertained as exactly the same happened to me and now I have 3 EDDs of 1st, 2nd and 3rd December on my notes. I'm sticking with December 1st so maybe I'll see you there! I think I'll look at the November and December threads so hope you don't mind me joining you all...

bunny2 · 12/08/2004 08:23

Hi georginars, good to have you here!

Panda, really glad everything is well.

Has anyone bought their baby stuff yet? I am going to start buying some sleep suits and vests son. People keep giving me second-hand stuff but I really want some nice new things too.

Als, when do we pack our bag? I cant remember as it was 4 years ago!

Flossam · 12/08/2004 08:31

Hi Bunny, yes we have been buying, was trying to make the best of the sales that were on recently! We've got a pram, a bouncer, nappy changer unit, baby carrier and baby monitor. Don't even get me started on clothes! My mother is getting just a little carried away with it all! I've got quite a few little bits for him. But I speak to mum normally twice a week. Every time I speak to her she has gone and got something else. Have been nagging her to stop it, but she finally admitted last weekend that she is enjoying it!

As for the hospital bag I think its a bit later, but no idea when!

Hi georginars welcome! I think we have two posts going at the same time at the moment... Twinkie has started November number 3!

bunny2 · 12/08/2004 08:55

ok, see you on No 3!
