sorry for being presumptuous enough to start a new thread but I had so much to catch up on and fill you in on...

hiya all - finally settled and have pc at home!! Singapore was wonderful if exhausting. The heat took a lot out of me but it was great to have the break before we headed into the move again. We are in our house and settled - almost unpacked - just books and non essentials left to sort out.

had my first real ante natal appt last week - found a great GP - very approachable and very pro - woman's choice re: everything - amount and type of testing - I had three hospitals to choose from. She then did a proper antenatal consultation and I got to hear the baby's heart beat - great I also have my referral for my scan but have yet to have a date.

Halfway( 20 weeks) today - EDD is 5th November.

Over here the antenatal care is either shared between the GP and the hospital consultant or is all hospital based - there are a couple of midwife led birthing units but very hard to get into - done by ballot system and at this late stage no way I would even get a look in.

Gp was brilliant - took all I had to tell her about last pregnancy in her stride and rather than preaching and assuming what I wanted ( like the GP and midwife in UK) she asked me what I wanted.

Unlike the UK - homebirths are extremely rare - I have decided to have a hospital birth in the major hospital for the state - should anything like last time happen again I am right there rather than having to be transferred or having the baby transferred.

Now I just have to wait for them to get back to me with an anomaly scan date. Hopefully all being well - next week.

Glad to hear all is well with everyone else - baby is moving and heard it swishing around whilst the GP was trying to hear the heartbeat. Definitely in maternity clothes now - got some good jeans from George/ASDA before we left.

Take care....

Yes Bunny, I've been worrying too, although just as I wrote that I've had a bit of a kick...! It does seem that the little one isn't quite as busy anymore, but I'm not convinced it's not my shift patterns that have sent it all over the place. I laid down on my break on a night shift last week and felt it quite a bit for the first time in a few days at 4 in the morning. Also trying to tell myself the movements, when they occur are more co-odinated, less flutterings, more like little kicks, easier to miss maybe, and also they might be facing the wrong way.... Yes I have been giving this rather a lot of thought!!

eidsvold · 10/07/2004 14:15

i tend to have sporadic movements from the babe - usually only really feel it when I am lying in bed at night or in the morning - only other time when dd lay across my tummy - babe gave her a kick

as to birth weight - I was little but a friend of mine - no 2 was 12' 2 oz and all on gas and air as her dd came too fast ... her husband used to delight in telling me that when pregnant with dd......

Wow Eidsvold, thats huge!! Clever her!

Feeling incredibly hormonal today, first time I have really noticed how one, not very major thing going wrong can turn me into a complete mess! I wish I hadn't left the house this morning. Still keep getting tearful about it over an hour later. If you saw a woman bawling in the street this morning I'm afraid it was probably me!! Mind you would rather be over emotional than aggresive which another relative is apparently being like!! Still maybe that's to come too!

Bronze · 10/07/2004 16:43

I wouldnt worry about your bump size in correlation to baby size. I looked tiny with ds1 and people didnt even realise I was pregnant at 8 months plus and he was 9lb 14, dreading the size of the next one

PotPourri · 10/07/2004 17:27

ok. Enough chat about big babies... Eidsvold, I;m liking this fast deliver chat. I can cope with any size if it just pops out.

I'm still on the flutters stage, and mainly only at night when lying in bed, or the morning. I have felt a few more definately kicks. Ooooh, it's so exciting!

Sorry to hear you're feeling a bit down today Sam. See if you can turn the hormones into being elated - think about lots of happy things etc. I agree, much better than being aggressive.

arwenevenstar · 11/07/2004 11:06

Hi everyone, not been about much this week, but thanks for all your support.

My scan is at 9.30 (8.30am UK) this Saturday and I'll be 22 +4 wks! I am scared s*less to be frank and am trying to keep occupied to keep my mind off things. I know we'll cope with what ever comes our way, but it is the not knowing at the moment.
Glad everyone is feeling okay apart from the rude people on the public transport!!

Bunny, this one is sporadic in it's movements too. It started off quite regular and I could predict roughly what times, now it's all over tha place and some days almost non existant!! I think while they are still relatively small they can turn a lot and kick inwards and you can't feel that so much.

I hope mine won't be too big either. My first son was 7lb7 and the last 8lb10, so there is a pattern here!!! Think this one might sting a bit

I am also hoping for a natural birth, they have a lovely room here for natural labour, without a bed but with a platform with raised stages and loads of cushions instead, balls, pool, jacuzzi!!and mobile monitoring if you have to be. They don't have gas and air here, so I am hoping my tens will be enough, it was last time, but then, each one is different eh? They also don't have wards, so you get your own room or shared with one other mum - almost better than the hilton! You can stay up to 5 days if you want.......I think I'll see about that, might get cabin fever, but it'd be nice to have time with the baby only to bond before bringing it back to the boys to be cuddled to death(poor kid!)

Have any of you found out the sex of your babes?

Take care for now...

eidsvold · 11/07/2004 13:08

no idea of gender here - babe was not in a position to reveal anything - so we have to sort out two names - hard enough thinking of one last time!!!

Hi All. I've just come back from a wonderful birthday weekend in Bournemouth and Poole. Took DD with us and she absolutely loved the beach. Back to work today though, and I really don't want to be here!

Got my first midwife appointment today, and will ask to hear the heart if she doesn't do it automatically as I've not heard it yet and it's a sound that I love!!! Other than that, this baby is another one for those sporadic movements. There can be days when I feel nothing and others where he/she doesn't stop wriggling. I try not to worry and think that I should make the most of not being booted in the ribs - it won't last for long!

Twinkie · 11/07/2004 13:33

Baby is deffinately a boy - as had CVS and then when we went for scan last week they commented that it was 'definately a boy' - DP took this to say that Max has a huge todger and obviously takes after him!!

webmum · 11/07/2004 13:57

hello evryone,

I've been away from a while as we were on holiday.

Bliss!!

Glad to hear you are all ok, and good luck Arwenevestar with your scan on sat!

We're going to visit the midwife led Labour unit at our hospital this sunday as I'm hoping to have a water birth and if everything progresses ok, they'll book me in for that.

Nothing else to add, just feeling incredibly relaxed and rested after our hliday and full of energy, may I'm finally beginning to bloom!!

plantpot · 11/07/2004 20:43

hi all have had 20wk scan but no idea of babes sex legs firmly crossed i didnt want to know but dh wants to find out (but then again ive got a few more scans to go thanks to the g/d )babe is growing well and evrything seems to be fine

babe defo prefers night to day(movement wise) but hopefully its body clock will be normal when s/he is born

hope you are all well

bunny2 · 11/07/2004 20:55

Good news Plantpot.

Are we all half way now? I am tomorrow and am actually enjoying it now I went to M&S today to buy some new bras - they are so big and unsexy, like my mum used to wear, I remember seeing them flapping on the washing line.

PandaBear, glad you enjoyed Bournemouth - we live there and it is fab in the summer (a bit dull in winter though). Were did you go?

Quackers · 11/07/2004 23:51

Bunny , hiya, congrats on getting halfway!! 3 weeks for me, well we'll see what it ends up being!!!! xxxxxx

vivie · 11/07/2004 23:56

oo bunny don't get me going about unsexy bras - I've just bought 2 in size 36G and am feeling very unsexy indeed! I really hope they deflate after this babe is born!
I know I'm having another boy and I'm hoping for an easier birth this time. Ds1 was only 7lb but it was hard work getting him out. They say it gets easier..... This baby seems much more active than ds1, I hope that doesn't mean he's going to be one of those 'non-sleeping'babies!
Good luck on Sat arwenevemstar.

eidsvold · 12/07/2004 00:04

this babe has decided to wake me early this morning - due to not working and moving etc - been a bit of an extended holiday - been able to get up when I like... having said that it is still pitch black at 6 am.... this morming - babe decided to go on a squirming fest from 5 am and so am up early not able to sleep - not helped by kookaburras laughing loudly, dh tossing and turning and dd snoring like an old man......

over half way...

in fact - friend in the UK is as pregnant as me - when I left the UK 17 weeks pregnant - she had told no one and was as slim and trim as usual - make me very envious however - this is her first and I remember being very small with dd - looked like I had eaten more than my share of pies - rather than now - definitely look pregnant with the bubbly belly!!

gingernut · 12/07/2004 01:38

Oooh, I have a bra problem too...growing out of current un-sexy ones so I'll have to shell out for more un-sexy ones, oh joy!

Will be 20 weeks on Thursday, but don't have scan till about 22.5 weeks. We may be able to find out sex if bean is co-operative but we are still arguing about whether or not to ask (hospital has changed policy since we had ds when they wouldn't tell)!

vivie, my ds was very active in the womb, and still is (my friend describes him as being like a Duracell bunny!). However, he sleeps well, I think because he wears himself (and his mummy ) out.

Good luck for Saturday arwenevenstar.

Samcj · 12/07/2004 01:56

Hi all, my boobs have done very much really. DP told me they were sagging but SIL told me to try the pencil test and I passed!! Have got bigger but still look out of proportion compared to tummy now!!

Desperately trying not to get too worked about my scan, which is on Thursday. Nervous but at the same time I really can't wait for it to be all sorted, and hopefully have some good news... Got myself in such a pickle last time!!

When am I going to chill?!!

Samcj · 12/07/2004 01:57

Read 'boobs HAVEN'T done much'

gingernut · 12/07/2004 02:11

Sam, good luck for Thursday. Your chillin' days are over now though hun, did no one tell you?

Samcj · 12/07/2004 12:37

Oh dear. I advice everyone to steer well clear of me then!!

bunny2 · 12/07/2004 13:08

Lol, gingernut is right Sam, you'll never chill again. Getting through the pregnancy and all its possible perils is only the start. Wait till the baby is born, then you really worry!!! Good luck Thursday. A vast majority of scans are absolutely fine but I know how one does worry. Try and enjoy it if you can, it's a lovely opportunity to see your baby.

PandaBear · 12/07/2004 13:18

Good luck for those of you with scans still to come and as Bunny says enjoy it - you don't get many opportunities to see Baby!

Bunny we did all the tourist things in Bournemouth - went to the Pier, the Oceanarium, paddled in the sea, walked through the gardens and did a bit of shopping. Then spent Monday on the beach at Sandbanks - gorgeous, and I wish I was still there. You are very lucky to live in such a nice town. My SIL recently moved there to live with her boyfriend, so we're probably going to be down that way more often!!

Bronze · 12/07/2004 16:23

quick message to say i'm going to finally to stop moaning. We're moving probably very soon to North Norfolk so I wont be around much a lot of sorting and packing to do. I'll come on and let you know how my scan went which is on friday and we may even know what sex it is. Very jealous of Sam and her passing the pencil test I wouldnt pass it if you used a pencil case instead
Bron

Samcj · 12/07/2004 16:50

Is that quite sudden Bronze? Have you been looking for long? It's quite good to be moving now rather than later provided everything works out though isn't it? Should be plenty of time to organised and settled before baby! My babies due 23rd Nov, our tenancy on this flat (no really suitable for baby) runs out on the 27th Nov! So I'm quite envious of you too Bronze!!
Good luck with it all and make sure you let us know how your scan goes too, we hope to find out the sex too...!

collision · 12/07/2004 18:51

Samcj....we are due on the same day! DS1 was 5 weeks early though, due to pre-eclampsia so i wouldnt be surprised if this one was the same!

We have our scan at the beginning of Aug so I will be about 25 weeks then, I think. We want to know the sex.....isnt everyone so far having boys? We need a checklist.
