After 10 years of fertility treatments, countless failed IVF cyclces and four heartbreaking miscarriages (all at around five weeks), my brother phoned me tonight to tell me that he was sitting on his sofa looking at a scan picture of a little tiny being with a strong heartbeat at seven weeks! Its early days but all the signs are good and this is the furthest they have ever come. I am just sending a heartfelt plea for all of you, whatever your beliefs, to send a little prayer or positive thought that this little baby makes it. I really really believe it makes a difference. We've been praying hard ever since the IVF cycle and I dreamt they had a little girl! They will be wonderful parents. So please send a thought of strength and life and hope and love and whatever else to help this most precious little person make it safely into the world.
thanks with the biggest lump in my throat xx

hello everyone

A slight wobble tonight (don't want to frighten you Aunty Strawberry) but hopefully some of you might be able to reassure us.

VBLB's scan results today have left dSIL a little concerned. at 28 weeks he/she was measuring 1.3 kilos and was described by the doctor as 'chubby' and at the top of the weight percentile, today at 32 weeks he/she weighs 1.9 kilos and is now in the bottom 20% for weight. The doctor has said he will scan in two weeks and if the weight gain has not picked up he will deliver VBLB then at 34 weeks. If movements slow down SIL is to go straight to emergency.
SIL is understandably upset and worried as it sounds so serious but the doctor said he wasn't worried. She is trying to stay calm and I'd love to be able to reassure her. Has anyone heard of or experienced this?

Just a bump in road I"m sure. Please keep sending love and prayers and thoughts of strength and chubbiness!, just a few more weeks to go...

.so nice to think of how i would feel reading it when you have more to think about, i did fill up as soon as i saw the first line tho!
i'm sure the doctor is right in saying this is going to be ok, they're taking the right precautions ie scans and telling her what to watch out for..if the earlier scan showed VBLB as being 'chubby' then the weight may now just be 'evening' out, maybe vblb took more at a certain time and now has enough to help him/her grow.
although i am worried for you all too, i feel in my heart that this will all be alright...i know your sil wont be able to properly relax, but this really is the best thing she can do! as she will feel more movement from vblb if she isnt tense..she needs to take it easy work wise and shouldnt worry if she does have to go in early as this is what they know is best for vblb.
Does she have a maternity day unit close by(i had one ehre in uk), she could go in daily to check movements and everything, only takes 1/2 hour and im sure it would be fine?, or get you brother to ring hosp to see if she can go in for regular(every few days) checks to reassure them.

i AM sure it will be ok, their beautiful bundle will arrive safe and well, and wether that be sooner rather than later, they will be fine(lollypop lady at school today had her daughter give birth last night 5 weeks early, little boy weighed 6lb 12oz-heavier than my dd at full term!, so im sure everything will be fine)
whether early or late, vblb will be in the best care!, he/she's just excited about seeing her/his mummy and dady(and aunty melbourne)..i will send over some of my abundance of chubbiness and telepathically 'add' it on where needed.
hey button, you keep up those kicks and stay close, cuddling with mummy for as long as you can.you are really such a lucky baby and i am sending you all my love.xxxxx

My SIL had something a little similar, baby was measuring small, she was told to increase her calaries and protein in particular. I think babies weight increased a little, but was born a small but very healthy baby and ended up being a girl, so I guess you could say she's petite.
My SIL was extremely worried as well, so not helpful to mum.

Eat up little bean. Your almost here

Tickle · 18/01/2007 13:03

hi MM -
No personal experience of this, but I've never heard of an ultrasound that is completley accurate re weight... I know that they are improving them all the time, but it is still only a measurement worked out from a lot of variables. I think the most important thing is that the doc is not worried, and that they have a plan B, even if they don't use it!

As Strawberry says, vblb is in the best possible care, and it's great that they are keeping a close eye.

Plenty of relaxing massage for your SIL, I think

Sending lots of love and chubbiness vibes

clemsterdarcy · 18/01/2007 19:49

we do height of fundus as a measure in the uk ... where cm measure linked to weeks ie expect 32cm at 32 weeks etc

as with all such measures they are a best guess and utterly subjective

including myself i know so many women who didnt match -- i was even sent straight to delivery suite after a routine antenatal appt cos they were concerned my dd wasnt growing

all worked out -- dd was a fine wbirth eight at 6lb 9oz and has grown consistently ... she is in the 2nd centile ie shares same weight as 2% of population ... small but perfect

perfect

best thing is for mum to relax

all will be well

StrawberrySnowflakes · 19/01/2007 19:29

thanks everyone so much for your reassuring and supportive messages (and your love as ever) No more news at this stage except VBLB is jumping around everywhere SIL said so that has to be a good sign. Maybe he/she is also trying to reassure a worried mummy.

We (DH, me and two ds's) are heading off to Nepal on Monday for a little adventure so I might go quiet for a couple of weeks but I will keep you all posted of any developments. I'll stay in touch with SIL by email. Please keep sending out prayers and happy thoughts for this little family that are all about to meet each other!

Chubby hugs from us

Hello VBLB,

Now what is all this fuss?

I turn my back for a few moments to get some work done and you're being mischeivious!

Now just you stop playing games with your mum and dad, they worry quite enough as it is! You need to eat up all the lovely things your mum is giving you, they'll help you grow healthily, and keep up the exercise it is good for you and very reasuring for your mum and dad!

Thats a good VBLB! I don't want to hear of any more mischief!!!

Take care little one, my thoughts and prayers are with you, I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of you in the sunlight!
