I'm a bit nervous about opening this thread as I've only foundt out I'm pregnant and anything can happen...anyway, due date 1st november, I still cant believe it.....
This is my second baby but I'm even more anxious about this pregnancy than first time round...I'd been wantind a 2nd baby for over a yera now, but dh wanted to wait longer, and now it's happened, but it wasn't planned at all!!!

We're both over the moon though, but trying to contain our happyness just in case....(easier said than done)

anyway, I fell better now, having shared this with you..

off to play with dd1 now!!!

Good luck on Friday Eidsvold. My next scan is this Wednesday. I hope I get good news as my last 2 miscarriages happened around this time. I will definately need mat gear soon. I am eating for 2 and cant stop.

hana · 27/04/2004 08:57

just popping in to get some advice from you ladies who are past the sickness stage (hopefully you're all past that...)
I need your remedies for curing morning/afternoon and nightime sickness - most of the day I feel sick even though I'm never physically sick - but feel awful. Also have no energy. Give me your tips please!!

Twinkie · 27/04/2004 09:39

Hi,

Got nothing in H&M - it was like a jumble sale with women hanging all over the clothes and no order to anything - the clothes were shoved here and there and nothing was arranged according to style or size so I gave up in there.

Got a skirt and a pack of vests in NEXT and 2 pairs of trousers in Cache Cache - where I have vowed never to go again or I might bankrupt myself!!

Going to pop to lakeside at the weekend I think - they have a H&M there and the maternity bit is always more organised I think because the store is bigger.

Other than that I don't feel too bad - really really tired and have terrible spots but nothing else!!

PandaBear · 27/04/2004 16:02

Hi All,

Glad to hear everyone is feeling OK, and that some of you are starting to venture into the world of maternity clothes... I thought I was showing incredibly early (12 + 3).

Anyway, I'm OK but slightly worried. I have had a constant stitch in the left side of my stomach for the whole of today. It's not incredibly painful but I definitely know it's there. Is this normal?

Cheers

collision · 27/04/2004 17:57

I got some maternity clothes today!! There is an outlet Benetton store in Siena and I bought a lovely pair of white and olive green trousers which grow with the bump and a purple long sleeved top for later in the year. From Prenatal I got a summer dress which is very floaty and comfy........scan on 19/5 and blood tests on Thurs.

Told parents and Dad said 'Ooh.....do you think it might be a girl??' What a silly thing to say! He is desp for a Granddaughter as he has 4 grandsons.......no pressure on me then!!!!!!!

Hope everyone else is well.

hana · 27/04/2004 18:22

no tips? pleasssssee! I need your wisdom and experience
and congrats to everyone on this thread!!

bunny2 · 27/04/2004 18:27

hi hana, sorry, no tips from me except to keep eating! It is the only way to curb sickness IME. Remind yourself it is those pregnancy hormones working hard .

My 10 wk scan is tomorrow.

collision · 27/04/2004 18:28

Sorry Hana.....I am 11 weeks and still feel sick most of the day and am still exhausted all the time. I just eat little and ALL the time. Have retched a few times but not been sick. try malted milk biscs!

eidsvold · 27/04/2004 20:37

sorry but I am 12 weeks and still being sick - now has become a morning consitutional Tips that people have given me:

Nibble dry biscuits etc before you get up, try ginger biscuits. ( I have found ginger ale slightly helps at times)

But for me I don't get hungry just nauseaous and so just have to keep eating. Someone did suggest travel sickness bands but I just have not been able to get into town to get some.

Apparently they have just concluded a study in Aus which shows that one gram of ginger a day is very effective in reducing the sickness - apparently the other thing was to take Vitamin B6 ( not heard of that) Perhaps herbal teas - ginger tea or something might be a help.

I am hoping to just buy a couple more shirts and perhaps some shorts for summer and then try and use the belly belt (?) for my jeans during the winter in Aus - or perhaps as I will probably be at home a lot - get myself some trakky daks....

Twinkie - last pregancy sil got married when I was about 6/7 months pregnant and I went to Bluewater looking for an outfit - walked into cache cache and almost passed out at the price of a shirt - I ended up getting a great outfit from Evans ( just a nice floaty elastic waisted skirt and lovely shirt)

Mum2Ela · 28/04/2004 08:05

Hi everyone,

Glad to hear everyone is well!

I ad my dating scan yesterday and all is well. EDD is 5th November so I am very excited!! I was very brave too when they took blood from me.

The doctor asked about family history - my cousin has cystic fibrosis - and asked that, if he thought it was necessary, would I like to be tested for it. As the test would be an amnio I declined. They didn't go into that much detail when I was PG with DD and it wasn't an issue then. It concerned me a bit as he seemed to talk about it a lot, even though its only one person in my family.

He also talked at length about the colour blindness in my family which had never been an issue to me!

Mum2Ela · 29/04/2004 10:51

Blimy, where is everyone?!

Was it something I said?

collision · 29/04/2004 10:54

Im here Mum2ela.......had a blood test today and have my scan on 19 May.....declined amnio too.

Bronze · 29/04/2004 13:43

Blimey i'm disorganised. I had my first midwife appointment yesterday and I am officially 10 weeks today. No chance of any maternity clothes for me for quite a while as all my waistbands are too big to make up for my stretched pelvis from my last pregnancy (on that note I need tall mat trousers any ideas) Still as sick as I used to be on friday nights once upon a time and being very snappy and weepy. My poor son I feel so guilty.
Hope everyone else is doing better (than me)

Twinkie · 29/04/2004 13:59

Hello - can't believe you lot are seeing midwives and things - I haven't yet although have seen the doctor - is that the same??

Scan next Friday - DP is running around getting himself all excited.

Eidsvold - Cache Cache is lovely though - there is a lovely coat in there well like long belted shirt thing that I went on and on about so hoping DP got the hint and may treat me to it!!

I must also be looking pregnant as one woman at work guessed and a nice man on the bus offered me his seat yesterday - why is it that men do this more then women - had huge urge to stick my face into this woman's face who kept looking at me and say - you can't look away everytime I look at you and pretend you haven't seen me - I am here and you are bloody selfish!! GGGRRRRR!!!!!!!!

PandaBear · 29/04/2004 15:32

Just back from my scan!! Very exciting, low risk and heard the heartbeat, and little one with his/her fist up behind its ears. Very cute, and I almost cried. I hope everyone is OK.

eidsvold · 29/04/2004 19:03

so excited - off for my scan tomorrow.... had the midwife call me - poor woman... she went on and on about testing - assuming after having had dd ( heart defect ( operated and all clear now) and down's syndrome) that I would want every test going and when I kept declining them she did not know what to say.

Twinkie I have seen the GP but no one else - I imagine the midwife would get involved after the scan... or should. Check with your GP that they have done the referral if you are worried.

I just politely told her it really wasn't worth getting started on some plan of care as I was not going to be here ( 34 days to go BUT who's counting ) ) and I would sort it out when I got to Aus.

Feel bad as I am working full time and looking after dd and arranging moving out of this house and the move overseas that this little one is not getting much thought. dh and I rememebr how excited we were with dd and how we could not stop talking about her.. this poor babe is being neglected !!

Still puking for England and Aus... although some days not ill all day... just mornings

Panda Bear that is lovely

How is everyone else?

bunny2 · 29/04/2004 19:36

Pandabear and M2E, so glad you had good scans. It is a huge relief isnt it?

Twinkie, are you seeing the midwife soon? MY blood tests are being done now, are you planning to have them?

I must have the record for the most scans - 6 so far. All is going well though and I am beginning to relax a bit. Bronze, my scan date yesterday put me at 9+6 so I am officially 10 wks today too. Have you been given an EDD? Mine is now 25 Nov.

Eidsvold, good luck tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you.

jellycat · 29/04/2004 20:20

Hi! Good news about the scans Mum2Ela and PandaBear. And good luck for tomorrow eidsvold.

I had my booking-in appointment with the midwife this morning. She had a bit of a struggle getting the blood samples which was a bit horrible, but I survived and am glad it's over with for a few weeks.

bunny and Bronze, we are all due the same day! (my notes say 26th though cos they didn't take account of the leap year but I'm not arguing over the EDD).

Twinkie, I'm a bit surprised you aren't seeing a midwife before your scan...seems a bit topsy-turvey to me. But maybe they don't want to spend an hour doing the booking appointment until they know all is well on the scan. I don't think the bloods have to be done this early - last time the first lot of bloods they took from me were at 16 weeks so I was a bit surprised to be attacked with the needle today!

vivie · 30/04/2004 13:43

Hi Everyone,
Good luck with the scan eidsvold. I can't believe how calm you sound. If I was trying to move to the other side of the world in a month I would be having fits by now, even if I wasn't pregnant and working full time!
Dh and I had a weekend away last weekend while ds stayed with my parents. I think everyone really enjoyed themselves and as I didn't have to lift ds for a few days my back is now much better. We must all be careful of our backs - this small thing made me realise how easy and how awful it would be to do something really nasty.
I'm 12 weeks tomorrow so I suppose I'm almost out of the danger period. I got out all my old maternity clothes yesterday and remembered how much I hate them all, after wearing such a small selection so much last time and feeling like a beached whale. I'm still just about in my normal clothes but I can feel a spending spree coming on...
Keep well everyone xxx

Bronze · 30/04/2004 13:47

Cant belive people are having scans already glad they all went wll. My dus date is now officially 25th November though I'm as confused as anyone as to when it'll be born. Quite nice in a way c if i reach that day and go over I dont think it will be as difficult to cope with.
Has anyones sickness completely stopped yet or is that wishful thinking

Bronze · 30/04/2004 13:50

can you tell i got next to no sleep last night

Mum2Ela · 30/04/2004 15:58

Hi everyone.

eidsvold hope the scan went well.

Bronze - I haven't had any sickness. Just lots of tiredness.

I have booked to go away with my family over new year which is my birthday (1st January). We are off to Cyprus. Am I mad? If baby makes an appearance on time he / she will be about 7 weeks. Do you think this will be ok?

BTW, went to Topshop today and bought a pair of cropped linin trousers. They are fab for pregnancy as the waistband is bad and soft and like the type you get on a pair of joggers but bigger. Will be brill for the summer!

Twinkie - I had to visit the midwife and have a home visit before my scan. I s'pose things are different around the country huh?

Off to Kent for the weekend so everyone take care and speak to you all next week.

PotPourri · 30/04/2004 18:19

Hi girls.

Good news on the scans M2E & Pandabear. I'm really chuffed for you. And Liliesmum, chin up with the morning sickness. Eidsvold, hope the scan went well today.

I've been travelling all over Europe this week with work, and it is making the morning sickness, tiredness and mood swings worse. Have been really sick and struggling to get on with normal activities. I still haven't told work yet so it has been hard pretending I am just fine. I have a meeting with my boss next week, depending how bad I feel on the day, I may just bite the bullet and tell her. Ideally I want to wait til 12 weeks. I keep reminding myself when I eventually stop feeling sick how amazing life will feel every day!

Eidsvold, you sound so calm and collected. An example that I am going to try and follow.

I've lost weight so the maternity clothes I got are still on the hanger, but funny you should say that someone gave up their seat for you Twinkie - the same thing happened to me last night. And it was a man, after a woman nicked it from under my nose! Not sure if I look pregnant or ill, but it was much appreciated anyway.

I got my scan details through (24 May dating scan, booking in appointment the following week - I have it back to front too), and after no info from the GP I am glad to say they are really lovely and I am looking forward to it very much. I had to change the date of one and they were so helpful I felt like sending a big phone hug (told you my emotions are a bit out of whack!).

Well, happy bank holiday all. Fingers crossed the weather picks up and we can all enjoy a little sunshine!

chicaguapa · 30/04/2004 20:05

Anyone got stretch marks already from this pregnancy? I didn't have any with DD (and didn't use creams etc) but loads have appeared today at belly button height. I'm only 13 weeks (EDD 6/11) and not even in mat clothes yet - still in same clothes so can't have put much weight on!

Don't suppose there's anything I can do about it?
