I'm a bit nervous about opening this thread as I've only foundt out I'm pregnant and anything can happen...anyway, due date 1st november, I still cant believe it.....
This is my second baby but I'm even more anxious about this pregnancy than first time round...I'd been wantind a 2nd baby for over a yera now, but dh wanted to wait longer, and now it's happened, but it wasn't planned at all!!!

We're both over the moon though, but trying to contain our happyness just in case....(easier said than done)

anyway, I fell better now, having shared this with you..

off to play with dd1 now!!!

HI!
I know I seem to be a bit behind but I only found this website this evening! Have just spent about an hour reading all your messages so I could get to know you all a bit!
I think I am about 10 and a half weeks pregnant with an EDD of 26th of November. My scan (which any of you who have seen my other post will know I'm terrified of!) is on the 20th of May. We are off to Turkey for two weeks which has been booked for ages, a bit of bad timing but it could be worse! So I will go a bit quiet after the weekend!
Nice to have 'met' you all! Hope everyone is ok!

eidsvold · 01/05/2004 08:07

just popped on quickly to let you know all went well with the scan although I am 13 weeks not 12 weeks so my due date is now about the 4th of November.... unlike the last scan it was sooo clear and the baby was moving up and down. The sonographer also commented on my bladder control and how nice and full it was. Learnt my lesson there - first scan I had with dd i got in trouble for not having a full bladder.... plus yesterday they were running about 45 minutes behind and I didn't dare try to just do a little pee......

We are off in 34 days!!! Glad to hear everyone is doing okay. We are off to football for the day - strangely enough - last time we went I was pregnant with dd...

Samcj · 01/05/2004 09:49

Hi again, could I just check with any of you, a bit of a strange one this... My nipples have gone all dry and now completely peeled! It was like I had been sunburnt, only I haven't had the opportunity yet, and certainly not there!! I'd been moisturising, I do every day anyhow, but I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this, is it something that is supposed to happen or do I just have slightly strange nipples??!!

bunny2 · 01/05/2004 11:19

Eidsvold, so glad your scan was a goodee!

Samcj, hi, nice to have you here. I have read another message somewhere about peely nipple skin, it can happen in pregnancy and, if I remember correctly, nothing to worry about. ention it to your midwife next time.

NannyJo · 01/05/2004 12:49

Hello all! I'm new to this site so please bear with me. Can you add me to your role call for mums to be due in November. I'm due 3rd of Nov. Can't wait it's my first. In reply to the peeling nipples situation, mine are just burning all the time it feels like they're on fire, not peeled though that sounds quite painful!! other than that I think i've been quite lucky. Not much sickness just a bit tired! When are any of you having scans? mines not until week 20+. I wish it was earlier then it could put my mind at rest that everything is ok!!

PotPourri · 02/05/2004 16:45

Welcome Nanny & Sam. And big congratulations to you both! No ideas on the nipples problem - maybe try vaseline, or sudo creme (but is white and leaves marks on clothes).

Really chuffed your scan went well Eidsvold. Oh I can't wait to get my scan now. I am hoping they will tell me I am further forward than I think too as I don't know the dates and have had to make a best guess.

Oh yes, the sun has made an appearance round my way, so we are having a barbie! And to top it off, I have not felt sick today or yesterday - just how good can life get!?!

Evening all!
Liliesmum - my ds is also 11 months, and I'm due on the 27th-ish, so maybe we can swap notes! Have to say I'm a bit worried about how ds will react when I'm feeding no2, but I did actually plan to have them at this difference, so I've only got myself to blame.
Samcj - my did that with my last pregnancy, and i found e45 creme was the best thing.
So pleased that everyone's scans have gone well - mine is on wednesday, so I'll finally have a proper date then. (booking appt is the same time).
hope everyone's keeping well, not long to go 'till we're past morning sickness stage!

bunny2 · 03/05/2004 21:26

Would you believe it ... my morning sickness has just kicked in, the last three days I have been feeling awful. Cant bear to cook so we are living on McDonalds, cheese on toast and cornflakes. This is so similar to my first pg when I had ds, I'm sure there's another boy in there! Anyone else got any strong feelings about gender?

collision · 03/05/2004 21:34

We have 'tried' for a girl just to see if the old wives tales are a myth or not!! TBH we really dont care what it is and another boy would be easier but there are 4 grandsons in the family and everyone would love a girl. My father and my evil MIL both said they hoped it would be a girl!! No pressure at all. My gut feeling is it is another boy but DH says it is a girl!

Am eating for 3 and cant stop and have even started wearing maternity clothes now!

bunny2 · 04/05/2004 10:18

Collision, that is soooo annoying isnt it. My MIL wants me to have a girl as she already has grandsons. I want a baby, the sex really sint importat at all but it is so rude of people to start putting pressure on.

eidsvold · 04/05/2004 10:51

we don't really care although I think it would be nice for dh to have a son... although dd is daddy's girl.... either way we will be happy.

Twinkie · 04/05/2004 11:07

Oooohhhh hello all - have been off for a while - things to do at home and stuff. Welcome nanny and sam - looks like there will be a baby boom in November

Hope all of your scans went well - I have mine on Friday and DP is sooooo excited!! We see the midwife after that apprebntly the woman at the doctors said they will beek me in when we are at the hospital and the midwife will come to my house - Drs are 3 minutes walk away but bless them as I already have a child they don't want to drag me out of the house!!

Went shopping again at the weekend and bought some more maternity clothes - they are all a bit big - well the trousers but I can't carry on wearing trackie bottoms and looking a slob forever!! - couple of nice stripy tops in H&M - really groovy ones - much better than anything from last pregnancy, 2 jersey shirts - nice for work and look quite good with jeans too, a bright green trendy top as well and all for about £50!! Also a pair of black jersey trousers only £16.99 in Next and really comfy!! - If any of you live near Greenwich go tot he H&M at the retail park it is much better than any others I have been in - nothing like the normal jumble sale!

Anyway other than that nothing exciting happeneing - puking when brush teeth, boobs feel hot and tight and if DP tries to touch them again I will punch him and sister found out that the problem with her baby was not anything to do with our side of the family - sad news but I do feel a bit selfish in being reassured!!

Hope you are all well and happy XXX Twinkie

webmum · 04/05/2004 12:07

Hello evryone,

haven't been posting in a while, but everything's fine, though the official due date is now the 31st October (yes Halloween, pls save the jokes), but I thoguht I'd stay in this thread since I was teh one to open it!!

Getting into the 'nice' mid pregnancy period, overcome all the sickness and otehr nice sysmptoms that preganncy throws at you...had my Nuchal scan and dating scan. The nuchals can reading was a bit higher than normal, but the overall risk combined with the blood test was much lower (more than 4 times lower) than the age related risk. Which is good, but I was referred for a specialistic cardiac scan at 20 weeks as an increased nuchal fold can be linked to heart problems. DH mentioned amnio but I don't even want to take into consideration, not for a tiny risk anyway.
I'm not thinking about it much, because it would not solve anything, and since I saw the baby on the scan (playing with his feet and bringing them to its mouth!) I can't believe there could be anything wrong with it.

There could, obviously, but since I'm not going to find out for another 6 weeks, there's no point in worrying now!!

At the moment I'm more concerned about how and when to tell dd who's 3 in 3 weeks.

Congratulations to allt hose who ahve joined this thread since I alst posted (quite a lot!).

Collision just out fo curiosity but where are you in Italy?

You will find that most of the stuff is more expensive there: maternity wear, babywear, even nappies, and feeidng bras...they're all horrid and only white, I would order from the UK if I were you!!

Mum2Ela

Just noticed your enquiry, you will see the answer in my previous post.

Thanks for asking! But I don't ahve much time to log on, so will not see my posts very often!

Hi Webmum! i am about 30 mins from Siena and so do all my babyshopping there. Have found good cheap nappies which I am pleased about but I really need a Mothercare! I bought a bra which is supposed to be a support bra but isnt!! It is too small and I am v cross!! There is an outlet store for Benetton here which is cheap and Upim which is nice and I have lined up SIL and a friend who will give me all their baby clothes depending on the sex!

Do you know Italy well, Webmum????

webmum · 04/05/2004 12:31

Hi Collision

I'm from Umbria (just next door from you) and have lived in the UK for over 7 years now. DD was born here and at the time everyone wanted me to go back to Italy to have her, but iT would have meant being away from DH for a long time so I decided to stay here and was v. glad I did!

i think the standard of a/n care in Italy is much better (as is teh healthcare system in general, this is why you contribute to it), but the way birth itself is handled is dehumanising (at least in my home town where most of my friends have given birth), and there's virtually no postnatal care! Though you want be treated like a crazy over worrying mother every time you take your baby to see the pead. and it doesn't ahve a life threatening condition (as I sometimes get here form my GP)

I don't really have first hand experience, but I have so amny friends who've had babies there that if you need any info just let me know!!

webmum - where are you having your fetal cardiac scan - I had to have one for dd and it was in Kings - the cardiologist was brilliant. Suprisingly unlike the local ultrasounds where they show you everything after they have had a look - the cardiologist left the screen where dh and I could see it - not that we understood most of it but he did explain what he was doing and what it meant.

NannyJo · 04/05/2004 20:51

I'm slightly confused, I'm one of the furthest pregnant on this thread ( due 3rd Nov) and you all talk about maternity clothes and showing pregnant. I don't feel like I am showing at all and I wish Iwas so I could relax a bit more and believe I am actually carrying a baby. I sound stupid I know but I am a bit of a worry wort. I can't wait to get myself into next maternity wear but I stupidly feel that I would be tempting fate if I brought it too early. Is this crazy state of mind normal for a first time Mum to be or am I just being a silly old bag who needs to stop being so pesamistic??

vivie · 04/05/2004 20:59

Nanny Jo - I'm with you! I'm still in normal clothes even tho I've spread a bit, and I can't get head around maternity clothes at all - and this will be my 2nd baby. I'm 13 weeks tomorrow, and I was in H&M today looking at maternity clothes but I couldn't bring myself to buy anything. It's ridiculous to be so superstitious but I can't help it! (It would've been loads easier if I had bought some clothes today because I was out without ds for once and I can't see having any time for solo shopping again any time soon so I'll have to be trying stuff on with a toddler in tow - sigh !)

littlerach · 04/05/2004 21:13

I didn't go into mat clothes until about 19 wks, and this is my second.

jellycat · 04/05/2004 22:46

Hi everyone. NannyJo, I'm not in maternity clothes yet either, and this is my second. Some of my things feel very tight though (but I think it might be too much chocolate!). Last time I didn't wear actual maternity clothes until I was about 25 weeks, I just bought a few ordinary elaticated waist things. But maternity clothes have changed quite a bit - they seem to do some which are intended for use earlier in pregnancy whereas all my old maternity stuff seemed massive until the later stages (but some seemed too small by the very end). And vivie, I'm definiately not buying anything new yet either, certainly not until after the 12 week scan, I'm far to worried and don't want anything new in the house! I don't have a date for my 12 week scan yet, keep rushing to the post in the morning to see if there's anything from the hospital.

bunny, stangely enough I've been feeling more nauseous recently too.

Whoever said their nipples were peeling - mine are a bit too, although it's more as if I have dandruff on my nipples ! It happened last time too. I've just been slapping moisutiser on it. I think it's probably because the skin is stretching.

Twinkie, good luck for your scan on Friday.

webmum · 05/05/2004 10:21

EIDSVOID

I dont know yet, I'm waiting for the appointment, but I was told it will be either UCH or the Fetal Medicine Centre.

CAn I ask you a v. trivial question? Did they only look at the baby's heart or was it a more comprehensive scan? And did you get the impression (or did you ask) they would tell you the sex of the baby?

My local hospital don't tell you, but we would really like to know!!

Twinkie · 05/05/2004 10:32

Webmum, I also had cardiac scan at Kings and have to second the fact that they are great - I always found the normal scanners bloody miserable - me I would be soooo excited for the new mums and 'the miracle of life' but they were just miserable!!

I am wearing some maternity clothes only because my normal clothes are too tight, can still get into them though, but I have no waist nornally and all my trousers are hipsters and it seems with me that is the first place I lay down fat when pregnant - mind you saying that with DD I did not wear maternity clothes for ages!! - I think it makes a differemce sometimes if it is your second too - I am showing a bit now whereas before no one guessed I was pregnant for ages!!
