Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Super it's so awful when even the tiniest 'grazing' bits you can't keep down.... Hope you are managing some fluids.

Meerka the 'skin smell' yes I get that! Even my adorable dd sometimes....especially if she smells of eau de nursery.

I've decided I'm going to go back in history and start using a nose gay....

livingzuid · 27/11/2013 10:44

Conference is meh but nice to be in London :) current speaker is a main partner of ours so I can zone out! I was a bit dodgy on the plane and the DLR I had to stand and was nearly sick. I am so hungry but can't face eating most things. I'm going to wistfully gaze at the m and s food bit later.

I can't stand the smell of clothes drying. We are in a tiny flat so clothing is banished as far from me as possible. And husband smell yes I feel that. My dog was so whiffy the other day I made DH wash him then couldn't stand the smell of the dog shampoo! He's learnt to sit at my feet.

Oh and I can't cope with peanut butter smell any more. Gutted I loved peanut butter per pregnancy.

superlambanana · 27/11/2013 11:07

I am sipping water! I'm so hungry!

charleylarlie · 27/11/2013 13:14

Thank you everybody for your kind words, just what I needed to hear! Smile

living, I remember having v. similar stitch like pulling throughout my last pg and it was always made worse if I got up too quickly – I think it’s to do with the hormone relaxin that we produce. I’m only 8+4 at the moment, so I haven’t had it this time round yet, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time. Hope your migranes get better soon. Great that you’re managing to drink lots of water too – hope your tablets start working soon or you find one that does.

Glad you’re feeling a bit better, eggy. I think you’re right to do the things that you feel like doing for now – I’m sure you’ve earned it.

I agree about the radiators, Only. I can’t stand the smell of our house when the heating is on at the moment. Also, the smell of people, Meerka, anybody really, even my lovely DS. Oh yes, and washing too.
Really feel for you, super. Hugs.

I’ve not been too bad this morning – managed to go to toddler group with DS. It’s nice to be able to sit down while he gets on with playing. I feel a bit bad because he’s almost stopped asking me to come and play with him at home now. It’s as if he gets the idea that mummy lives on the sofa now and if he wants me to do anything with him he has to bring it over. He’s napping now so all is bliss.

I do find the afternoons hardest though and tend to feel v. sick from around 2/3 until I go to bed at night really. I wasn’t sick yesterday though, which was a bonus. I also didn’t take my Seven Seas vitamin tablet so I don’t know if that was a factor. I also managed to drink a bit more yesterday – 3 glasses of water, some diet coke and I ate loads of grapes which seemed to help keep the sickness away. Will try the same again today (must remember folic acid though if I don’t take my vit tablet).

ChaffinchOfDoom · 27/11/2013 13:42

hi charley

hg/ms is crappy isn't it.

Ive found today I cannot walk at normal speed any more. I have to stroll everywhere and it's driving me mad. if I try and hurry I get mad superpowered stitch and breathless, and bladder pressure.
Hope everyone has a nice afternoon

livingzuid · 27/11/2013 14:56

Oh no why did I eat a goats cheese thingy for lunch now someone is drinking coffee behind me and I am trying my hardest not to run out the room - looking at the agenda to see when the earliest is I can sneak away. Thank god for flight excuse!

Only1scoop · 27/11/2013 18:07

Super hope you a bit better and have managed to eat a morsel.
Charlie ughhh it's just vile....I've been the same with the vitamins from time to time, it's a bonus to get them down and for them to stay down. Glad you managed to get out though that's good.
Living hope you flew back ok without feeling to ropey....
Only sick once today ....but the nausea....took me about half an hour to shower....half an hour to get dressed....just had to keep sitting down. Like the worst hangover in the world everyday....without even a good nite to show for it Hmm

Hope all of you are ok

jenpatnim · 27/11/2013 19:31

Hey well I went back to work today and was ok apart from the nausea kicking in pretty severely half way through the day. At least I didn't vomit. I am tired and queasy, and finding my bump is starting to ache and be uncomfortable when I bend and get out of bed and so on. I know it isn't as bad as some ladies with the SPD, so I am not complaining too loudly, but I am finding my movement to be restricted and my belly to be quite sensitive.

Glad everyone else is still coping, not like we have much bloody choice. People at work are commenting that I am quite neat - I was sure when I got preg that I would be the type to balloon seeing as I am prone to fatness anyway...... clearly not yet. If I dressed carefully I could probably still hide it.

livingzuid · 27/11/2013 20:47

only and jen glad we have all seemed to power through today somehow. Sometimes I think it's mind over matter - I had to travel today. I made an error of having a plane snack on the flight home and the whole day just caught up with me the moment I sat on the flight and had terrible nausea. We just landed and I thought I would share with you all that we are sat 5 metres from the gate and the parking device failed Grin but hope to be home soon. Tomorrow I am taking my time getting into work

Only1scoop · 27/11/2013 21:39

Living ....hope you not still stuck on that aaircraft Shock

Only1scoop · 27/11/2013 21:39

....that would be aircraft.... whoops

Sally8655 · 27/11/2013 22:03

Hi, sorry havnt had a chance to join in the conversations much. Just wanted to quickly say well done for powering through with work, conferences etc. Pleased people are getting by. Think your all amazing coping with work or young kids on top of feeling so unwell.

I'm stuck in bed with flu. Aches, sore throat, real bad head etc. I've now banned all visitors and gone into hibernation until the birth. I'm tired of getting ill with everybody's germs!
I don't care if that makes me a hermit, I've had enough of being poorly already.

Xxx

Only1scoop · 27/11/2013 22:38

Sally....so sorry to hear you feeling so rough Sadand don't blame you for the ban Thanks

Totesamazeballs · 27/11/2013 23:03

Hi all!
Sorry for lack of posting. I haven't had much opportunity to get online. We were away last week and wi if didn't work. Had disastrous holiday, ended up coming home early as despite two visits to the doctors local to our holiday cottage, neither picked up DS had multiple infections. Ended up in our hospital at home at 1am and DS had a temp of 39.9 and was doing funny breathing ( and we had seen the doc that morning who said it was just a virus.) All v scary. So glad I, backed up by DH, made the decision to trust instinct and come home straight away.

Anyway, a few days of antibiotics and DS is bouncing around again.

Sally, you are really having the roughest time. Hugs to you x
MOG- sorry to hear about your grandfather

I hope everyone else is coping ok.

I think I have got to the 'as good as it gets' stage - don't feel sick that often, just have the constant gross mouth taste that won't go.

Also having moments of fear where I am not sure if I am up to managing two kids!

livingzuid · 28/11/2013 07:57

I made it home. I can't remember much I don't think I've felt this exhausted in ages. Apparently I was exceedingly grouchy Grin nausea is back today but I haven't eaten yet as had a bit of a lie in and am cutting back to 1 tablet a day.

sally poor you - can you face honey and lemon or no? I think you have the best strategy, get all the books you have wanted to read and ignore the rest of the world! Sounds bliss!

totes gosh sorry that sounds awful. How scary for you. Glad ds is back on his feet and recovered. I know they are finally now trying not to dish out antibiotics like sweeties but when they are needed they are needed for goodness sakes.

That taste is so icky isn't it. I tend to get it in the afternoon and it ruins the joy of any food I might want to try and eat.

Scan tomorrow :( had nightmares about it.

livingzuid · 28/11/2013 08:07

On a complete side note I went to get my first maternity bra from m&s and she said I was a 38D and put me in a 40D bra so I can grow. what the hell I have been a 32DD or 34D depending on type of bra forever. I will never understand bra sizing. Just bought 1 to tide me over till Xmas and will go to house of fraser when I'm home to try again!

It is comfy though but not a maternity maternity bra just a non-underwired one. Better than what I had on she said Grin

livingzuid · 28/11/2013 08:12

New bra also reminds me of an armoured vehicle :( between this and the nausea/vomiting the next few months are destined to be the most unglamorous of my life. Who are these ladies who sail through pregnancy doing yoga and looking so fabulous shopping out of a Boden and Mamas andPapas catalogue eating salads and continuing normal ahem relations with the DH? Is it a marketing myth designed to make us feel totally inadequate? If someone offered me a salad I'd throw it at them right now!

MightilyOats · 28/11/2013 10:30

I get my bras from bravissimo living - don't trust M&S to fit a mannequin nevermind my expanding boobs! I went in there as a 34B/C and came out a 38D - with a bra that didn't support and made my very tender boobs hurt, went to bravissimo and was a 34F or something! Still have huge boobs (though they don't feel huge after they went down after bfing ds if that makes any sense, so they still surprise me Grin) but now a 34FF with space to grow in the back and the cup. I'm still wearing underwires as otherwise they're down by my ankles!

Nausea seems to have relented last few days which I'm eternally grateful for - but it does bring with it new levels of paranoia, though still exhausted and some smells still set me off (DP I am looking at you with your uber smelly shaving balm just before you come to bed). Wearing a vest top today which was washed in some liquid I don't like the smell of too, so doing my best not to sniff too hard!

Also had a parvovirus scare at the weekend as ds had it and I had to be tested to see if already immune. Thankfully I am, but it was a worrying few days.

Hope everyone feeling best they can today, second the suggestions to extend sick notes for those who have them.

eggybrokenoff · 28/11/2013 11:14

ha re marketing myth of pregnancy. so too is having a baby. you spend ages looking at mothercare catalogues with pictures of beautiful women reclining smiling with a nursing cushion, toddlers smiling in car seats, newborns asleep in pristine white in a crib. then you have a baby, realise johnson baby ads are the most unrealistic depiction of bathtime ever, toddlers have to be whacked in stomach to get them in said car seat and your crib will remain pristine cos no one will ever actually sleep in it but you, your hair, your bed, and that nursing pillow will be permanently covered in puke!

sorry ive gone off thread a tad. but it winds me up

LucindaE · 28/11/2013 12:13

Everyone I am so sorry about this, got up from migriane,pc not working - again. Amtyping this from the libary pc. My pc must be on its last legs.
Thanks for sympathy about migraine. Blood spurted out of my nose and cme up from my throat during puking fits, and Ithought, 'just like old times...'
Charley Welco9me - as others say mother hen is worried about the lackof liqiuds, and as they say, canyou stand jelly or ice lollies or wet foods? As you are eating, maybe those nasty ketones aren't creeping up, but lol, as others say, I would advise getting kesostix to check that you aren't getting dehydrated - available from any chemists, also online, but that might take longer. Hugs. This is such an isolating condition.
Everyone take care of yourselves. I am glad some DH's are being good and sorry Sally has flu, that really is the last straw.
Jugs to all.
Lucinda

Gosh Lucinda, that sounds awful!

Agree with you Eggy!

Sally8655 · 28/11/2013 12:34

Ah lucinda, hugs to you too. That is awful xx

ChaffinchOfDoom · 28/11/2013 12:51

sorry about your hol, totes; what a crappy doc sending your poor ds away.

Only1scoop · 28/11/2013 15:03

Lucinda that sounds awful hope you are feeling much better....hugs Thanks
Totes sorry to hear about hols....nightmare....glad to hear your ds is better.
Living.... The bra shopping is an experience in itself. Mine give me so little support I may as well go au naturel! (And look like vile hammocks)....
Also hate all magazines/brochures that show healthy looking smiling, glowing pregnant women....I get an urge to just tear the covers off....(I'm harmless thoughWink)
Hope everyone is as well as can be....going to tell our dd about baby later when she gets home from nursery....
Take care

jenpatnim · 28/11/2013 17:52

Lucinda, hope you feel better soon (and get a new PC for Christmas)...

I have not had to buy much in the way of bras - most of mine still fit me and I am still wearing the underwires (Yes I am a bra rebel) but I did buy a few nursing bras that drop down/unclip for easy access.

Let's talk about stretch marks, shall we? I have, in the last few days, seemingly overstretched myself. Any wonder my tummy has been hurting, I can see where it is stretching! It looks horrible and I haven't shown OH yet (although he will not be repulsed).

OH has the cold so it is like deathwatch in our house - men are so dramatic! Can't wait until he stops sniffing....
