Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Jen, same here on the stretch marks. I've had loads appear this past couple of weeks. I have one in particular that is so big and wide the skin is really thin and feels yuk to touch. I have accidently scratched it when I've had an itchy belly and been very sore after.

On the bras discussion, I can not stand the feeling of a bra at the moment. If I spend the day in my pjs I don't wear one all day. The only ones I have found bearable are the stretch no strap bandeau bras. These are slightly padded and seem to hold me in place fine for now. Boobs are getting pretty big though I'm measuring a 40dd!! I've always been a 36b. Dh has likened them to cows udders, lovely ;-/

eggybrokenoff · 28/11/2013 19:31

i always found lovely thick creams or body butters far nicer than oils. much more soothing and less itchy on belly skin

jenpatnim · 28/11/2013 19:36

I bought tummy butter, but it is still sore. :(

superlambanana · 28/11/2013 20:32

I bought a couple of sleep bras from figleaves, which are basically like crop tops, as I can't stand to sleep without a bra now. Still wearing underwired ones most days because I've felt too ill to go shopping! Not been sick today yet though which is progress...

SicknSpan · 28/11/2013 21:34

only1scoop did you tell your daughter? Was she excited?

lucinda thank you for being so lovely to us all! especially when you're unwell too. Thanks

My skin has been itchy too and I second whoever said creams are more soothing that oils. They seem to be a bit better at cooling my skin which is nice when it feels dry and scaly like a lizards backside!

Tried to find a bra yesterday as attempted some Xmas shopping. Mind you there was more sitting down done than purchasing but at least I've made a start. No bra to be found though- I'm normally a 36GG and there was nothing suitable. I am still wearing under wires as without them my norks are about 12 inches lower ;) I found the bra fitting threads on here a while ago and my eyes were opened to the world of well fitting bras! Not sure what to do now though, wore wires all the way through previous pregs and only switched to soft whilst bfing. But need something soft now. Hmmmm must try harder.

Dr earlier, repeat prescription and new sick note given quite happily- was semi expecting a debate as could only get locum appointment. I must admit I am completely gobsmacked at how different the medical profession seem to view hyperemesis now, in comparison with ds1 and 2 - 9 and 5 years ago. They are so much more sympathetic (in my experience anyway)

Happy Thursday to all, nearly the weekend :) x

livingzuid · 29/11/2013 08:40

In hospital waiting for doctor crying with fear people must think I'm crazy psycho. Also discovered I really can't eat chocolate biccies I have quite a good day yesterday until a borburn bought me to bed at 7pm. Sick this morning as well but maybe nerves... Wish me luck going in now

livingzuid · 29/11/2013 09:33

Oh my god I'm having a baby Grin he/she was doing backstroke by the looks of things! I cried all over the doctor who was great. I'm off to see a European specialist about my thyroid now! He seemed fine with my sickness medicine and reaffirmed I should take two if necessary. My blood pressure is right at the high end of normal 130/85 so I have to also do a protein test but he said for now they will just monitor it. I see him again in 5 weeks and I go to a specialist pre natal unit for scan to check the heart against the deformity caused by lithium but he said in his whole career he's never seen it so chances are slim :)

Going to post separately about the whole screening thing. Meerka I might pm you about it as well if that's OK? Blood test not offered in NL so I could try a clinic in Belgium. I saw a lady say she paid to go to a clinic in Amsterdam so it must be somewhere. I've got extreme bipolar paranoia around my nether regions so I have to find an alternative.

Sorry for off topic just wanted to share and thank all you lovely ladies for all the support. lucinda you were so right. Statistics are in our favour I will hang onto that. Still feeling nauseous and will go back and read everyone's responses properly once I feel less in shock. Have sick free days everyone!

Only1scoop · 29/11/2013 09:51

Living Grin such great news can hear the relief in your post....so pleased for you.
SicknSpan think I'm gna have to attempt another bra shop at some point....keep putting it off....but it's not helping they need reigning back up with some wire Confused was so sick yesterday afternoon, didn't tell dd ....I want to try to appear semi happy when we tell her....sounds awful. Just pray the nausea will lift. Sick of being sick and miserable.
Hope everyone ok this morning x

SicknSpan · 29/11/2013 09:54

Great news living! Glad it went well. Hope you manage to get the screening arrangements you need- they are worrying times aren't they. I am waiting for the results of my nuchal translucency/ blood work to come back, and every time the postie comes I am a bag of nerves. The longer it goes the more likely it is to be a low risk result but doesn't stop me worrying. And then I know I will worry for the rest of the pregnancy anyway!

I am a big softie even when not pg, but this thread is so lovely I have had a few tears this morning! Dh and boys think I am a bit daft when I get emotional over stuff, but at the moment it's worse! Bloody hormones grumble grumble.

Have a good day all x

SicknSpan · 29/11/2013 10:00

Ah cross posted handbags- I think I'm just going to have to put up with wires for a bit longer. The problem with the non wired bras that fit me is that they are the huge full cup ones, that cover all of the breast from round about my chin! The bra would be in display the whole time as I tend to wear scoop or v neck tops and so they are a total no no. I look so matronly in high neck things. Gah.

Do take care of yourself today, hope you feel a bit better later. Thanks

SicknSpan · 29/11/2013 10:01

Whoops you are only1 now aren't you- soz!

livingzuid · 29/11/2013 10:05

Thanks only and sick it's just such a strange exhilarating and scary time!

Had a VERY interesting chat with the thyroid lady. The thyroid produces more hormone when we are preggo and this is a significant contributor to morning sickness. My dosage is on the high side as the normal procedure for underactive thyroid us to increase the normal dosage from 125mmg to 150mmg. In my case this is too high so we are reducing it by. 25 so 137.5mmg. She thinks I should see a reduction in my morning sickness as a result as my thyroid has been working hard to support the pregnancy :)

It never occurred to me that thyroid would play a part in the sickness although I knew how important it was in pregnancy. Interesting! Right off for tests now.

Ps not happy with my m&s bra.

Only1scoop · 29/11/2013 10:13

Ah thank you Sick n Span ....and I agree, these awful bras are just billowing white material....up to the chin Grin
Living sounds like she has given you loads more info re your thyroid.... And if the sickness curbs that would be so great.

eggybrokenoff · 29/11/2013 10:35

congratulations living!

Meerka · 29/11/2013 10:49

Yes ofc its ok living. In fact do pm; my experience of the CVS test / vlokkentest has .... Not ... been good. Though admittedly I was unlucky. But as well as being unlucky there were mistakes made in the best practice (and that was in a very good hospital) that lead me to strongly recommend - in the strongest possible terms- going for a blood test in Belgium or Germany. on my way to collect son (YAY for being able to walk 2 streets to the school today!)

Very glad ot hear the scan went well tho :)

Hope everyone is hanging on in there. Know exaclty what you mean about being sick and tired of the nausea only1

superlambanana · 29/11/2013 11:03

That's interesting about the thyroid - I'm having blood tests on Tuesday (can't get an earlier appt Sad) to check thyroid and for anaemia, but I felt so ill on the phone to the doctor I didnt think to ask why!

Meerka · 29/11/2013 11:21

Ouf, got son but man that was a reminder to take it easy. Now sicker earlier than I have been for 3 weeks.

Totesamazeballs · 29/11/2013 13:33

Hi all. That is great news Only. When if the sickness doesn't abate at this stage, seeing your baby lends strength and resolve.

I had my anomaly scan earlier this week and although the sonographer said she wasn't 100% sure, she said she couldn't see a willy! I would love a girl as I have a son but I am not buying anything girlie in case she is wrong.
Funny, as I was convinced it is a boy, since pregnancy is identikit to my last.

Meerka · 29/11/2013 18:02

glad the scan went well, totes :)

LucindaE · 29/11/2013 18:29

Everyone Back online at last! Will read up on posts. I see good news from livingzuid and SicknSpan and Eveyone thanks for kind words.
It's always a pleasure to cheer on such brave women.
Hugs to all.

Totes great news re scan Smile

Meerka....hope you have been taking it easy after ds school and sickness better.

Lucinda missed u ....glad you up and running and hope you feeling much better.

Another rubbish day....tried to Christmas shop for an hour and was walking so slowly and felt so rogue decided to call it a day Hmm

Hope you all surviving (with or without our silly Bras) Wink

Totesamazeballs · 29/11/2013 18:45

I am currently sporting two balloons strapped to my chest and my M&s bra just provides a hammock for them without any support. It's not pretty.

jenpatnim · 29/11/2013 19:15

Living, glad the scan went well for you - it is such a relief to see it there!

Today was the first day I have felt uncomfortable in my underwire, after all the talk of bras! I came home from work and have changed into a 'sleep bra' from mothercare - it is basically a crop top. Much more comfy. I could probably do with getting re-measured, but I haven't got around to it. I have a bunch of nursing bras that I have picked up cheap (matalan and H&M) but I haven't started using them yet. Might try something along the lines of the Genie bra to see me through from Christmas onwards. I am a 38D normally, which sounds big, but I am not really huge. They have definitely grown but not by much.

Sally8655 · 29/11/2013 19:56

Lucinda, glad you got computer sorted, you did so well on the updates without one

Living- really pleased you had a good scan today, it takes a load off when you see baby moving around on that screen.

Totes and others pleased your scans all went well too

I've had another day back in hospital after waking up to blood stained pjs. Baby seems ok and is moving around no problem, had an internal and back in tomorrow for another anti d. Blood pressure high again but no issues with urine. Waiting for blood results tomorrow. Cervix still closed so at least I know he's not making an appearance soon.
I'm measuring much further ahead so could be earlier than expected.

Still loaded with cold/flu and the whole of my face is killing me. I've resorted to sticking cotton wool up my nose as its too painful to use tissue!

On a positive note, I really enjoyed a burger from tgi Fridays on the way back from the hospital. I really didn't want to stop out for food feeling so crap but it was amazing! It's the first time I've managed to eat out in 8 months. I could eat it again :-)

Back home in bed again though. Supposed to be going to labour and birth class after my anti d tomorrow but feel so poorly with this flu I don't think I should go. Wouldn't want to pass this on to other ladies either.

So question is, do I really need to go to one of these classes? What did other mums do for their first? I could just read up online. Advice would be good so I know if I should book into another.

Xxx

jenpatnim · 29/11/2013 20:00
