Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Egypt · 20/05/2004 13:39

hi all.. thats awful that partners can't stay. i am pretty sure, yes positive they can at Derby. Anyway. mw checked me over and said i was dilated just a finger tip -like the end of a pen!! oh great she tried to do a bit of a sweep around but said that she honestly thought it wouldnt do anything. do feel better that somethings been done though.
booked induction for 4pm-4.30pm on sat 29 may! god, cant believe booked in! but they do that - 12 days overdue. hopefully will have some action b4 then.
dh has decided to take day off now so going for a ride to get things moving maybe! he's packing the hosp bags in the car just in case

in a rush sorry, glad things seem a bit more positive with you linnet, re: sweep. good luck all xxxxx

Egypt · 20/05/2004 13:42

sorry, linnet, married 4 years now. i am guessing by the way , that you decided not to have a sweep? sorry, not reading things clearly......off out now

Linnet · 20/05/2004 14:24

I'm a bit calmer now. Been thinking of the positive things about being induced, if there are any, lol. Mainly thinking along the lines of I'll be able to shave my legs and not worry about them being hairy. Hadn't shaved them last time when I went into labour as I'd had a nap instead and worried about having hairy legs while in labour, silly I know soon forgot about them once things got going though, lol.

Dd will be able to be packed off to my grannies to be looked after. I wont need to be running around in the middle of the night checking that I've got everything.

Dh's boss phoned this afternoon to find out if I've been given and date and told him that she'd just start his paternity leave as of Monday so that's him organised work wise.

At least if I go in on Sunday I know that I won't miss the last episode of Friends next week and I'll hopefully be able to go to my friends leaving buffet on the Friday. With Children(plural omg) in tow.

If the induction starts things off straight away and I'm taken to the labour ward dh will be able to stay with me but if not I'll be on my own as there are no facilities for dh to stay with me. I also think it's a stupid and unfair rule but it's a small hospital. I'm lucky I'm even getting to deliver there as after June 30th it will be a midwife only unit and if you need dr's care you need to go to another hospital 20 miles away.

No I didn't have a sweep and the dr said that was fine. If they could have guaranteed that I would go into labour tonight I would have let her but of course there are no guarantees. Still having tightenings they feel a bit stronger now and a bit lower down than just round my middle which is where they usually are, maybe the threat of induction will be enough to get me going, lol.

Thanks Spring chicken. Sorry to hear that your friend had to be on her own for so long though, it does seem very unfair. You never know you might go early or on time
I said to my dh what if you sleep through the phone ringing and he said I'll just stay up all night, fat lot of good he'll be to me half asleep, lol

redfiasco · 20/05/2004 15:41

God, how dense am I? It never once occurred to me that my dh would not be allowed to stay with me whilst I`m being induced. Eygypt, am glad you pointed out that Derby does allows dh at Derby.

Im still optimistic that things will happen naturally before, had some pretty tame period pains, but nothing else to report. Makes me laugh how many people are eating curry on here, me included!! Bet the indian cuisine manufacturers have started this rumour to bump up sales!! Also never been told by people I dont really know that I should have sex, after the 10th time I just started to nod and smile.
The most scary remedy I was told this morning, and I`m no way going to try this, was to go downstairs on my bottom!! The size I am at the moment, would lose control instantly, and end up in A and E rather than Delivery suite!!

kbaby · 20/05/2004 19:05

Hi,
Linnett try not to get too stressed out about the induction as you may end up making it worse ie more painful. Look on the good side of it. At least you know Sunday will be the last day of pregnancy.
My friend had to be induced on both hers but went naturally the night before, so theres still hope. It is quite bad that Partners cant be with you. I think my hospitals the same.
Im hoping that it all happens on its own as I think I could cope better with the pain if im in my own house instead of being strapped to a bed and concience of any other women in the ward.
Ill keep my fingers crossed for you that something happens soon.
Redfiasco, I dont get the sex comment but I do get 'cant have long left now love' when I reply 'no i'm due sunday' I get looks of horror and the response 'well dont go having it here'

Im sure that while im in a shop for 5 minutes my contractions are going to start and ill have the baby before ive even gone through checkout!!

Egypt · 20/05/2004 20:41

glad you are feeling much better about things linnet, you are looking at it the right way by focusing on all the postitives..and whichever way you deliver you will have the same outcome at the end
i know what you mean kbaby about the shop thing! paranoid that i'm going to start, like today on the M1, but at home, think i never will!
redfiasco - are you going to derby? or were you just mentioning it because i am?
although, they induce you in the eve there, which is pretty much what most hosps do i believe, i think i would rather dh go home. there are no beds for him, so it would prob be more useful if he went and got some kip and came back in the morn, or b4 if phoned. hopefully they will phone asap. thinkn i will take a long time to get going if induced anyway, seem to take a long time over everthing!
my cousin had her baby at 2.30 this morning. guess when she was due? the 20 may. jammy gal.

Egypt · 21/05/2004 08:22

morning all
well q pleased to say that we didnt produce a child on our anniversary! anytime is ok now - so COME ON!
membrane sweep did nothing at all. no mild pain, no bleeding, no show did have some regular uncomfortable BHs in the car yesterday, but honestly think that was due to dh's driving! after all these bhs i think that when i do start, i'll not recognise it.
my cousin, who had her daugther yesterday ON TIME didnt have any pain - except for the last half hour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she just somehow knew that she was going to give birth last night and sent her other children round to her parents (she has 3 girls already). she went in and they told her, yes she had started but would be a while, so she went home, said to herself 'i am going to have this baby tonight', so went for a walk, took a hot bath and hey presto was back in at 11pm - a few hours later. gave birth at 2.30am. why is it so easy for some??????
by the way, baby is still back to back. to be honest i have resgined myself to the fact that it is going to stay that way. i shall just have to cope. had an inventive idea yesterday though! knew that they liked to turn away from bright light, so got on my hands and knees and put the bedside lamp, without shade, under my belly!!!! it really did squirm alot! but then thought praps i was being cruel so stopped! dont laugh

redfiasco · 21/05/2004 10:21

Egypt- Mentioned Derby as am booked there for induction on 26th May, live other side of Derbyshire, towards Belper, but had dds there, and given choice wanted to go back as both were very positive experiences. My appointment is for 8.00 in the morning though, and was told that theyd "get started" on me straight away!!
As for my dh being there, its his first "biological" child (hate that!!) although is only father my dds know. I dont think wild horses could drag him away from my side when they start inducing me!! Think he feels hes had alot of the crap stuff, terrible 2s, 3s etc, tantrums, general parenting difficulties, but didnt get to do alot of the firsts, like seeing your newborn baby the first time , holding your new baby. So can`t blame him really, must be strange for him.
Nothing else happening, no twinges, nothing.
But I remain optimistic, until I get urge to cry again!!! Am no good at waiting!!

Egypt · 21/05/2004 11:21

oh wow redfiasco! if i end up going in then, shall keep an ear out for you!
bless you dh. its good that they will start on you straightaway at 8am. wonder why i was a late one!? spose they just book you in as and when, but mw just mentioned that they often do eve ones. you were lucky.
anyone else any twinges???
nothing again here still. spent the rest of the morning back in bed. think best get dressed now.

kbaby · 21/05/2004 19:54

Hello.

Nothing here either.

Went to aquanatal today hoping that jumping around in a pool may do something. Even my Braxton hicks seemed to have stopped.
Egypt I had to laugh at the image of you with a lamp on your belly. The nipple stimilation didnt do anything but I managed to express colostrum but then stopped as I got worried that I might use it all up and have none left for baby.
Linnett, Ive thought of some more positives for your induction.

  1. You can have a pedicure ready so that you toe nails look nice.
  2. Get your bikini line done ready
  3. Youll get to see Cutting it on Tuesday.
  4. The weathers gone cooler so you wont be stuck in a hot hospital.
  5. You know that the baby will definetly be here by then. No more guessing what day it may come.
Egypt · 22/05/2004 07:53

morning all - any developments overnight?
we didnt hear from linnet yesterday- hope she got some action.
if not, how do you feel about tomorrow?

Linnet · 22/05/2004 22:15

Hi everyone, are you all still waiting or did you all get some action? I'm hoping that you're all in hospital delivering babies.

Well, I have posted on the birth announcements thread. But just to recap here Baby Callista arrived yesterday at 5.28pm weighing in at 7lbs 12oz. It all went really well, I managed to stay calm and didn't lose control and delivered her myself, no diamorphine, no epidural, as per birth plan instructions, but I did get stitches as I tore along my scar from when dd1 was born.

13 hours in all which I thought was pretty good for a second baby considering the shambles of the first birth.

Kababy I like your suggestions of positives should I have had to go in for the induction. My friend had already been round and done my nails. Bikini line I would pass on though, lol although she did wax my eyebrows as well, she's a beauty therapist. Midwife even commented on how nice my toe nails are, lol

We got home today around 2pm and I'm just so tired but can't sleep because I'm so excited, lol.
and dd1 is very pleased with her baby sister, she didn't know that she was getting a sister we kept that a secret.

Hope to hear you all have good news to share soon. love
Linnet

kbaby · 23/05/2004 10:58

Anyone here?????
Redfiasco / Egypt you cant have all left me on my own

Linnett,
Im really pleased that DD came before the induction and cant believe that you managed the labour and birth so well. I can only hope that i'll have a good experience.

Due date today so ive got 13hrs left before i'm late. Baby doesnt look as if its making any plans to move out of its home for the time being. Never mind I think ill spend the day sitting out the garden and making the most of not doing anything.

Egypt · 23/05/2004 16:29

CONGRATULATIONS LINNET!!! So pleased you managed it all yourself before the induction

Lovely name....

I'm still here kbaby, dont worry! Had my sister here for the weekend so i've not posted. Thought we might be getting some action last night as baby was really uncomfortable and grinding in my groin. trying to eat a curry - again - but this time in the restaurant, and was not pleasant. needless to say nowt happened. really thought would last night

hope you are well.

where's redfiasco?

Egypt · 24/05/2004 09:13

anyone????

you've all gone and had your babies havent you??!?!!!?

if not, redfiasco, hope you are feeling ok about wednesday and kbaby - any action??????

kbaby · 24/05/2004 18:56

Hi,
Still here. Looks as if Redfiasco may have left us though. Ive also felt a lot more grinding in the pelvis especially in the evenings when im sat up. Never seems to turn into anything though. Any little pain I get now I keep thinking 'could this be it' and im on the lookout then for another pain, but nothing happens.
This weekend I've tried sex, curry and fresh pineapple. I have to have the baby before Friday as I cant miss the last episode of friends and Big Brother starts!! I havent even got another appointment with the MW so I know I wont even get the option of a sweep.
Hope your baby comes soon.

Egypt · 24/05/2004 19:29

oh glad i'm not alone!
Could you ring MW if you want a sweep? They ought to try one before any talk of induction I spose.
havent had any grindings today. some BHs but they dont happen when i stand up so obviously not the start of anything.
think i have resigned myself to the fact that i am not going to start on my own, and will go right to saturday (induction day). hope not though.
hope your baby comes soon too! we're both first timers, so its nice that i'm not alone

redfiasco · 24/05/2004 20:35

Im still here!!! Had a really chilled out weekend with dds and dh, un packed and re-packed hospital bag!! Got out Moses basket and had talk to bump about it really being time to make an appearance!!
But nothing happening, if anything, feel better than I have for few weeks!!
Dds have 2day and 2mrw off school, inset days, so didnt have to face everyone down at school with their well meant, but tactless comments. We enjoyed a girly day doing hair, make-up, clothes etc, and 2mrw, were doing retail therapy!! Think I am resigned to the fact that baby is not going to come until Im induced on weds, and am starting to be ok with it.
Had horrible feeling when I came online tonight that I was going to be only one left, am glad to have company!! If its quiet 2mrw, I`ll know I spoke too soon!!!

Egypt · 24/05/2004 22:35

hi redfiasco - oh well, at least we are all in this together!
if i end up going in hosp on weds shall look out for you - not that i know who i am looking for!! how long do you think you will stay in?
glad you enjoyed your days with dd. sounds lovely.

Egypt · 25/05/2004 00:52

evening/morning!
cant sleep now. have very painful grinding in my groin that seems to accompany BHs, or BHs that seem to accompany grinding in my groin - not sure which is affecting which! its far worse when i am lying on my side, so have got up/ dh is snoring too which doesnt help! this is the most uncomfortable i have been, so fingers crossed. i was having these pains sat in bed every 5 minutes or so. they are still happening, at longer intervals though, and not so intense. i dont think anything is going to happen and it is just wishful thinking. i am getting backache with each one though. but they certainly arent lasting even 30 seconds really. i just dont know what is is going on!
shall go and sit on my birthing ball and enjoy a kitkat crunchy

karen01 · 25/05/2004 11:26

Egypt- how are you?

Egypt · 25/05/2004 15:29

hi karen. fine thanks - unfortunately! see childbirth thread for details, but have had a sleep and nothing much os occurring. one little cramping but nothing else.

redfiasco??? kbaby??? how are you? all ready for tomorrow red? may see you if i am lucky

spots · 25/05/2004 18:14

Is that right it's you 3 chugging away now? and redfiasco induction tomorrow? oooh best of luck girl... anybody else looking at dates? i know kbaby your due date just passed... Are you allfeeling ok and ready to roll? Thinking about you even when not able to post; life with baby only just starting to have sense to it! xxx

Egypt · 25/05/2004 18:38

hi spots, glad life with little laurie is starting to fall into place.
yes its just us 3 although havent heard from the others today! so maybe..........

kbaby · 25/05/2004 18:59

Hello,
Still Here.

Egypt I read your other thread and thats exactly what I was like last night.
From about 7pm the baby kept moving all the time and was grinding its head in my pelvis. It was quite painful and giving me shooting pains in the pelvis. No matter which way I sat or laid it just kept on moving and grinding. In the end I stood up and did the dishes which seemed to help. I also started getting BH when I went to bed but they felt like the normal tightenings and werent painful apart from in my back. They seemed to intensify my back ache. There didnt seem to be any real frequency to them though and I went to sleep. This morning I woke up to find I had had more of a show and the baby had moved to my left side but nothing more. Although this afernoon the baby seems really active again and bouncing around on my pelvis. I hope it may lead to something but havent mentioned it to anyone as it could just be me looking for signs that something will happen. Im the same as you and dont really know what I should be looking for. The only type of pains I have had in my stomach are low down on one side which I think is just the muscles stretching as it just hurts when I stand up. Im assuming that if it does turn out to be labour that once I get proper contractions I would just know. I have read about people who were in slow labour for a few days and didnt realise. The only sign they had was backache.
Hope yours turns into something soon.
Redfiasco - Good Luck for tomorrow, hope everything goes well and look forward to the birth announcement.
