12 days?! I hope to be getting on with it before then! Egypt, maybe they want to speed you along because of the weekend's events?

DP's mum in New Zealand just phoned to see if there was any news . . . and DP is watching some gory Japanese film called Zatoichi - I am trying to ignore it. What is with men?

libb · 11/05/2004 21:54

I want to congratulate GeorginaA but am not sure which one to choose!

CONGRATULATIONS! if you happen to come this way . . .

Linnet · 11/05/2004 22:45

Here we go another essay from Linnet, lol

I had a sweep with my first when I was 4 days overdue. Dr didn't tell me he was going to do it, did it then said I'll probably see you back here within 24-48 hours. 5 days later after suffering from niggly pains constantly since the sweep my waters broke, I went into labour and eventually dd appeared. This time nobody is giving me a sweep and I'm very adamant on that. After saying that though there are plenty of people on mumsnet who swear that they worked straight away so I guess it works differently for different people.
They leave us here to go 10 days overdue before starting an induction.

I would like to avoid an induction if at all possible but at the same time I'm a bit worried about going overdue. As I've mentioned many times before on this thread I don't agree with the date that the hospital has given me.

Hospital due date is the 13th which makes me 10 days overdue by due date from LMP date and 5 days over from MY date due to longer cycle. I have an overdue appointment at the hospital on the 20th which makes me a week over by their date, 12 days over by MY date and 17 days over by date from LMP. Still with me here?
So when do I start demanding that they do checks on the placenta etc?
I'm worried that if they leave me until the 23rd/24th of May therefore being 10/11 days overdue by their hospital date the placenta may have already started breaking down or ageing or whatever it is that it does because it's so far past the other dates. I'm sure I'm just being paranoid and everything will be fine but I haven't been taken seriously on my dates by the dr's and it's really starting to annoy me. They did the scan therefore they know best etc. I have a check up with my GP tomorrow so I'll tell her all of this as well see what she has to say.

sorry I'm starting to rant and rave now. I think it's the hormones. I'm also really bored and have ran out of books to read, I read them all to fast and I'm not even at my due date yet. Oh and mums at school keep saying oh are you still here then, I have to then point out that I'm not actually officially DUE UNTIL THURSDAY!!!

Bozza my boobs have also got bigger in the past week, do you think that's a sign?

I just know this little monster will appear on Sunday, my wedding anniversary, but to be honest I just can't wait to meet her. Just want it all over and done with now.

anyway I'm going to go and have a nice glass of white wine, maybe that will persuade baby to make an appearance. Sorry for the rant but I feel a bit better now. (enter sheepish smiley face here)

Egypt if baby is posterior try crawling about on your hands and knees with your bum in the air that's supposed to encourage them to turn. When I had my dd she was posterior but she hadn't started out that way she'd got stuck during labour but that's a whole other story that I won't go into at the moment.

Egypt · 12/05/2004 05:22

Can't sleep, won't sleep. Cant see either, left glasses in bedroom and have kept dh awake most of night, so best not go back in now have finally left him in peace.

Linnet, i can totally understand how you feel re: dates. I would be exactly the same. How many scans did you have? Was each one giving you the same date? If so, go with that, but if not, i would really tell them your concerns again and how worried you are. they may just monitor you to put you at ease. i hope they do.

thanks for advice on posterior thingy. certainly am doing the hands and knees thing.

Linnet · 12/05/2004 10:08

Egypt, altogether so far I've had 6 scans one at 11,12,14,16,19, and 26 weeks. At the 11 week scan(our first scan where by date from LMP I was 12 weeks) they said oh you're not 12 weeks along your only 11 weeks and changed the date. At the 19 week scan I asked again if baby looked the right size for dates and I asked again at the 26 week scan, both times they said that yes it looked fine.

I have a check up today with my GP and I will mention my concerns to her.

Sorry you can't sleep. I find I wake up almost every hour on the hour at the moment, but my dh just seems to sleep through my tossing and turning. Wonder how I'm going to wake him sometimes if anything happens in the middle of the night, lol

My glass of wine last night didn't encourage baby along oh well there's always tonight, lol bought myself a new book in Asda this morning so I'm off to do the dishes then I'm going to read my new book. Such an exciting life I lead, lol

spots · 12/05/2004 16:21

Linnet you've had LOADS of scans!

Very cute idea in Shelia Kitzinger about posterior lying babies. She says (I quote) 'Treat the baby as if it were a sleeping kitten that you are trying to scoop off the middle of a sofa and move over to the left side. Curve your hand around the most solid section of its bulk and firmly, little by little, edge it over... Talk to your baby as you move it. This is not simply a clinical exercise, but a bit of maternal persuasion'.

Sounds so simple, but I have tried it without apparent success....

kbaby · 12/05/2004 16:33

Egypt That sounds so sweet.
I shouldve logged on this morning as we couldve chatted. I was also up from 4.30. I'd even hung the washing on the line and had done all the cleaning by 6. Saw MW today although nothing to report. Baby is still 4/5's and is measuring 35 weeks which is about 6.5 lb. Hope it gains weight within the next 11 days. Ive got a consultants appointment on friday, although I dont know what for. All a bit boring really. Im bored of day time TV and im bored of reading and i'm also bored of people saying 'not long to go now' arrrgghhhh...

Egypt · 12/05/2004 17:19

spots - you've tried it?? you're not posterior too are you? sounds sweet, shall try!!

kbaby - dont get too hung up about that measuring business. my mw doesnt do it - she says she could make out the fundal height to be whatever she wants, its hard to tell! and she didnt mean that in an incompetent way. i think you cant really tell how big the baby is, accurately, so wouldnt worry. 6.5 is fine. might make it easier!

i too am bored, bored with the non-existenet sunshine, daytime tv, as you say - claire sweeney counting down 'thrrrrrrrrree, toooooo, wwuuunnn, WHISTLE' on 60 minute makeover (although interested to see what they do in 60 mins - or not as the case may be), walking round on hands and knees, bum in air..........lalalalaalal

Egypt · 12/05/2004 17:27

ooo, meant to say, tens machine arrived today. put one pad one back of hand, as mw suggested but felt nothing. turned it up full blast, nothing. the thing was working, buzzing, and light was on, but couldnt feel anything. the other 4 pads i left in the paper. should i stick all 4 on before feeling anything? am i not making a circuit or something by leaving them in the paper!!! oh i dont know, technology. shall get dh to stick them on my back today so can practise.

Linnet · 12/05/2004 20:28

I've had loads of scans because they thought the baby might have had a chromosome disorder, so one of the scans was at my amnio. But everything came back clear. The 26 weeks scan was a cardiac scan in Glasgow where we got the last all clear so now I just have to wait for baby to arrive.

Went to Dr today for check up. She says that the baby has dropped since she last saw me and is starting to engage. didn't measure me as they don't measure bump after 36 weeks or something like that.
I asked her about the dates and how it is bothering me and she said to talk to them at the hospital when I go for my overdue appointment next week...If I make it that far. She did say that I might not make it that far but I can't work out if she meant that she thought I'd be delivering soon or if she was just being nice.

Well Due date is tomorrow so we'll see what happens. Maybe I'll have the baby tonight maybe not.

GeorginaA · 12/05/2004 20:40

Hello all

Just popping my head around the door to say hi and to tell you it's all worth it! For the second timers, I really worried beforehand that I wouldn't bond with the new baby at all, that I felt it was a backwards step. Well, I've fallen hopelessly and utterly in love already. I'm a willing slave

Of course, I've managed to do & say all the wrong things to ds1 though today Bad mummy... will do better tomorrow.

Hey G'n'T... good to see you here. Give us tantalising baby news! g'wan...

spots · 12/05/2004 21:08

any news of Snowbird I wonder??

vivat · 12/05/2004 22:38

well i had my overdue appt at the hospital today (see other thread on childbirth) - refused a sweep as i'm only 40+5 but induction now booked for Monday. I guess that gives me the choice to either go if i feel it's the right thing to do, or cancel.

Had no problems last time delivered at 40+6 so quite surprised that i've got to consider induction this time. Should i have a sweep before Monday - aaarrgghh don't know what to do....

Linnet · 12/05/2004 22:44

Viviat, will the hospital monitor you daily if you refuse the induction?

Isn't it safe to go 14 days or slightly more overdue? Obviously by then you might be climbing the walls and want it all over and done with but that's your decision.

I have my overdue appointment next Thursday and if I make it that far I'm going to refuse a sweep if offered one as I had one last time and I didn't find it helped at all, see below. Although others on mumsnet have sworn by them everybody is different.

Maybe you'll deliver tomorrow at 40+6 like last time then you won't need to worry.

Good Luck

libb · 12/05/2004 23:03

Evening,

I had my overdue appointment this afternoon (we're a right bunch aren't we?!) and I have an induction booked for 19th May - the Rosie in Cambridge don't like to go beyond 10 days, I know this sounds a bit lame but I feel a bit saddened that it may come to an induction. I always had it in my head that I'll be calling DP at work and telling him to come home asap! Oh well, I still might . . . .

He seems happy enough where he is and my sister, bless her, said that maybe it means he might be a chilled out baby - she is renowned for being very practical and matter of fact about hospital procedures (she is a nurse!) so this meant alot.

A sweep wasn't mentioned at all - is that normal for some practices? Midwife did ask me if my bags were packed - had to bite my tongue somewhat, what do you ruddy well think?! she is lovely though.

Heyho. I'm still glad you're all sharing the moment - even if the feeling may not be mutual!

spots · 13/05/2004 08:17

I think I might take a sweep if they offer it today... don't expect it to do much really because I actually just think this baby isn't quite up for coming out yet. But seems like a nothing-to-lose situation. I don't know. Linnet I read your sweep experience on the archive thread so can see that it can be unpleasant but sort of feel willing to take chance on that if it means a chance of labour starting.

I did try to 'assess my own cervix' last night but couldn't locate it! I know what I expect to find up there (spare house keys, breath freshener and clean hanky ) but it really did feel quite different so I wondered if it had gone all soft and ripe.

So dh and I took advantage of the situation with a curry and a bob. with no effect whatsoever.

Egypt · 13/05/2004 11:05

lol spots 'took a bob'

i will go for sweep as well, as you say nothing to lose, and i dont mind being uncomfortable at all - surely it can't compare to labour. but everyone is different, a perhaps us first timers are just a bit tooooo carefree and impatient - i don't know.

baby still feels posterior - grrrr. MOVE BABY NOW, despite all that i've tried to do. just got up actually so been lying on left side in bed for 11 hours and nowt

spots · 13/05/2004 16:08

Eeek! Just went for appointment, and she did a sweep. Apparently I'm 2cm dilated!! ohmygod... am very excited and nervous now, as she says could go at any time. 'Oh I could just break your waters right now' she threatened; 'pleaes don't' says me. oh jiggers, really feel like I could be having baby tomorrow... Dh and I went to tesco's and got ourselves posh meal for tonight just in case it's our last one as a family of two.

libb · 13/05/2004 16:33

Oh Spots, that sounds exciting! I really hope you get to enjoy your posh meal first though - we must be alike because I just went out and got 2 lovely steaks for tea (apologies to any vegetarians here), strawberries and cream.

I had the weirdest feeling on the way home and, without wanting to make anyone queasy, when I got home there was a large amount of discharge (sorry to gross everyone out!). Do you think this was my show? There was no colour but there was an awful lot of it . . . oh blimey.

anyway, enjoy your teatime everyone!

Egypt · 13/05/2004 17:00

SPOTTS!!!!!!! Brilliant!!
You lucky thing, well done!!! Fancy getting to 2cm and not knowing - hope it happens soo, but like libb says, you get to have your meal first. ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY - keep us posted - soooooo pleased for you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Egypt · 13/05/2004 17:02

libb - sorry, forgot to say. was it clear?? or white like normal discharge? if clear then definitely a show, i should say. it doesnt always have to have a colour. you'll be next, you two - the race is on

SpringChicken · 13/05/2004 17:11

Oooohhh this is sooooooooo exciting

libb · 13/05/2004 17:14

I don't want to keep on about it before tea but it was clear, (a bit like egg yolk, gross gross gross - enough of this gory talk!) Still no obvious aches and pains, although little bean is kicking around a lot at the moment.

I wouldn't be so rude as to barge in before Spots! at least I will try not to anyway.
