Pregnant with no. 3 / 4 / 5...?!

Just wondering if anyone else is pg with their 3rd, 4th, 5th, or more?!

I am newly pg with baby number 4 and finding it a bit different this time.

Yesterday I flicked through a couple of magazines but the content didn't seem that relevant to me. I am quietly happy but not nearly as excited or nervous as I was before, especially the first time.

I know what kind of birth I want (same as the last two times) and I don't need to buy any stuff, so there doesn't seem so much to think about, at least until the scan.

I am also a bit worried about how other people are going to react when we tell them. There seems to be a general view that wanting 4 children must make us mad.

Hope I am not alone?!

Haven't posted on here for AGES, but have been lurking quietly.

I went for my flu jab yesterday (am 26+3) and was told to come back between 28-32wks for whooping cough jab. Apparently this is the optimum time for pg women to have it so it passes immunity? I'd suggest taking your dd to the dr and seeking their advice ASAP?

TheAngelsHaveTheOod · 18/10/2012 13:12

They won't jab me yet but am not showing any signs. Dd3 has been jabbed so if she has it it's mild. Mum been told there's loads about in diagnosed as its difficult to diagnose without hearing the cough.plus lots of Drs haven't seen it.
Dh is taking dd3 to dr tomorrow to get checked without having to speak to OOH.

MoonHare · 18/10/2012 14:23

Hi all

Welcome to those who have joined this week.

So sorry chilled.

Hope the whooping cough passes you and DD3 by ood.

Well, I managed to get my hair done on Sat! And my MIL arrived on Tues to help out for the duration so baby can arrive whenever she/he likes now.

Saw mw on Tues baby's head is fully engaged and my bump is 4cm smaller than last week, a good sign according to mw. Had a very twingey night last night, woke at 2.15 thinking maybe things were starting and got v excited only to realise very soon that it wasn't. EDD is not til Sat so not even overdue yet, hoping for another home birth so anxious not to go too much over as that's likely to reduce chances.

Hope everyone is doing well.

LimeLeafLizard · 18/10/2012 15:55

Hi Moon - glad you got your haircut! Hope it looks fab and will last until you next make it back there. Having not seen you for a few days I was wondering if things had started for you... but sounds like it isn't far away, anyhow. Hope you get your homebirth. I'd like the same, if it is possible when the time comes.

ood reading your posts makes me realise how clueless I am about Whooping Cough. I must search and read the recent threads on here about whether to have it or not.

I had my flu jab today and asked the nurse about it, but she seemed to know even less than I do.

Hetty, great to see your update, and to know baby Penny is doing well.

Pregnant with number 4 and 32 weeks now and it is very different, I'm always tired, lazy but I've never been so excited its true that each pregnancy is different can't wait for the remaining 7 weeks

TheAngelsHaveTheOod · 18/10/2012 18:33

lime it's the baby dtp jab they are giving out ( same as baby 2/3/4 month jabs). It's to protect baby more than you I think due to the pre-injection babies dying of WC.

MoonHare · 18/10/2012 20:23

Hey Lime I had my wc jab at 37+2 (on 1st Oct) was desperate to fit it in before I ran out of (optimal) time at 38 weeks. I've had no side effects at all - except slightly sore arm, like a muscle ache, for a couple of days. I was given the pre-school booster jab, which I had happily taken DD1 to have back in May, we had no issues with her having it so could see no reason not to have it myself in order for immunity to pass on to baby. It was a bit of a fight to get it, since that was very early in the new immunisation programme and my GP surgery were't geared up at the time. There was a very long thread in pregnancy about jabs that ended a couple of weeks ago, lots of very informative posts and links on it - don't know how to link to a thread else I'd find it for you.

cherrypiew3 · 18/10/2012 20:52

Hetty glad that you and baby are both doing well.

Lime I had both the flu jab and wc jab yesterday both arms ache but it's not unbearable.

Had a scan today and baby is doing well but they have given me iron tablets I was expecting this been feeling very tired and eyes are very dark. Had them in my first pg when I was having dd.

LimeLeafLizard · 18/10/2012 23:00

Thanks all for the info on the WC jab. It is good to hear from you ladies who have had it.
Moon I think that might be the thread that I noticed and started following a couple of weeks back, but it moved too fast for me and began to get a bit argumentative, so I let it go. Now I might have to go and search for it again. I am just 24 weeks so I have a while before I can get it anyway.

Cherry good news about your scan. I've had iron tablets in all my pregnancies - from 12 weeks in this one. Some people say they affect your poo (sorry tmi but lets face it, chances are we're all beyond modesty by now!) - but luckily I've never had too much trouble with that. (luckily because I've had so many months of taking them!)

Morning everyone (up nice and early due to inability to sleep....again!)

Welcome Mamma pleased you are still at the excited stage...I am 37+3 and at the completely knackered stage, so doing lots and lots of moaning at the moment!

Well despite all the contaction stuff in the nights at the beginning of the week, that seems to have died down more now, so still waiting....kids have 1 more week at school, and then on half term so I am really hoping that the baby arrives before then, as trying to keep the 4 of them entertained all day while really pregnant does not bear thinking about Confused

On the WD jab subject, I haven't had it yet, purely as I was so convinced the baby would arrive at the beginning of the week...and now I don't think have much time to get it? Also did I read somewhere it takes 2 weeks for the baby to benefit from it, which takes me almost to my due date, and all my other babies have arrived before that!

SeymoreInOz · 20/10/2012 02:51

Ooh moon and 4kids are in the starting blocks, who's going to be first?! I'll be thinking of you both.

My home hair dye was a bit of a disaster, thankfully I managed to get it fixed quite cheaply and I'm pleased with it now. Never again though!

I'm sleeping really badly now. I easily get up for the loo 6 times a night, and then there's the heartburn. I am getting leg pain now so I think the baby has dropped down a bit and is pressing on nerves. The poor little thing is really jumpy, DS just has to raise his voice and I can feel it startle. It's going to be a bag nerves by the time it's born!

4kidsplusbump · 20/10/2012 15:41

Afternoon everyone. Well after another night of really crap sleep and thinking something was starting, all came down to nothing AGAIN grrr!

Have managed to get a couple of hours sleep this afternoon so feel a bit better now. Don't know if I just have a bad memory but don't remember it being this bad with any of my other 4....

I can sympathise with the heartburn Seymore , am eating tablets by the bucket load to combat this! How many weeks are you now?

Conanchensee · 20/10/2012 21:46

Thanks for all the words of welcome, what a friendly thread. It seems there are quite a few of us with surprise no. 3's! I've got over the shock now I'm at 7 weeks, just holding my breath until the 12 week scan-I hate this trimester!

I feel like I'm getting de ja vu with morning sickness and exhaustion at this time of year- my other two are early summer babies so autumn smells just remind me of morning sickness now! I always thought I'd plan a winter baby for no. 3 to avoid the heat but on the other hand it always felt better to be getting up for hourly night feeds when the sun came up at 5am and it's nice to take a colic-y baby for a late evening walk.
I've always had iron tablets too but they didn't actually make much difference to my iron levels when I was re-tested, apparently your body doesn't always absorb them but vit C is supposed to help. Has anyone had low blood pressure? I've had it since my second pregnancy and I'm sure it's made me feel more tired but the doctor says it's not low enough to do anything about. I'm concerned about having low iron and blood pressure again with this pregnancy and ending up in an exhausted heap!
Good luck to everyone due soon, so exciting to read about it and I remember how agonising those last few days/weeks are. My dd was a week early then ds 11 days late so I was going mental as I didn't expect it to go on so long!

slightlytipsy · 21/10/2012 01:04

I'm having all three you mentioned(the 3/4/5) at the same time

I'm having triplets in January. I'm having the whooping cough jab today, 28+4, and DTS1 (I have twins, aged 4) has just told me 'mummy, when you explode, because of the needle, will you want a funeral?' Really comforting, especially as I'm (I know it's irrational, it's just a phobia) nervous about needles.

ShellyBobbs · 21/10/2012 05:08

Lol at your daughter Slightly and a massive congratulations!

20 days until my due date and counting. Am currently sweating now I've just drunk my longed for cup of tea, not tired but can see me being a bit ratty about 4pm today :)

TheAngelsHaveTheOod · 21/10/2012 08:48

Wow slightly 2 Pregnancies, 5 children Shock , bet you feel a bit short changed with mat leave though!

LimeLeafLizard · 21/10/2012 09:39

Welcome Slightly - you deserve to boast about having twins and then triplets. I guess you have to have a planned CS? Do you know if the babies are boys or girls? Grin at your DS comment - that is the kind of irrational fear that I have of everything at the moment!

Not long to go for you now then, Shelly, and we have moon and 4kids to cheer for in the meanwhile.

Conanchensee yes I've had low blood pressure as well as low iron. My bp has been fine so far this pg - tends to hover about 100/60 - but previously it has caused fainting and the exhaustion you describe.

When pg with DS1, I fainted on the London underground and remember coming round on the floor of a tube train. Luckily two young men had been standing behind me and caught me as I fell, and then pulled the emergency alarm. The driver stopped the train and tried to make me get off at the next station 'for insurance reasons' they couldn't carry anyone who was sick! Hmm

Luckily another fellow passenger who had herself had fainting in pregnancy, offered to take responsibility for me as she was planning to get off at my stop.

slightlytipsy · 21/10/2012 11:58

Yep, it's a planned CS Lime. They'll be two non-identical girls, and a boy. Definitely feeling short changed TheAngels, triple the trouble, and not even triple the mat leave.

20 days Shelly! It's so soon!

Conanchensee, my blood pressure is low this pregnancy, and though I'm not fainting, I definitely feel exhausted, sometimes I feel like I'll collapse, but I never do, thankfully. I also had low iron. Tablets are obviously best, but as you aren't getting them, trying this might work

AppleCrumples · 21/10/2012 12:55

Hello slightly I've just seen your posts on the jan thread! Congrats and wow!

Feeling pretty heavy now even though still only 26 weeks. Walking back up the hill from school on Friday and i nearly had to have a lie down! I'm not even that big. Does anyone else feel like this?do you think it could just be because I've already buggered my body having the 3 dcs?

moon and 4kids not long now! Am a bit jealous... (shuffle off to oversea homework...) x

MoonHare · 21/10/2012 15:26

Wow slightly !!! Big congratualtions! 5 kids in 2 pregnancies is some achievement.

Oz your hair dye story made me laugh, thanks as don't feel much like smiling atm.

Am with you totally 4kids on the stopping and starting, woke 2.15am Wed night thinking - is this it??? Pains died away after abt and hour and a half, then same again on Fri night abt 3.45am, almost woke DH that time as were strong and regular but only for an hour and half again.........

It's the waiting that's doing my head in now. People keep asking me if I'm fed up, I'm not - but I am on tenterhooks. It's that feeling every morning of 'will it be today?' and every night of 'will it be tonight?' And then it isn't. I don't remember feeling as restless as this the last 2 times. DD1 was 9 days over, DD2 was 4 days over, kind of hoping the pattern continues and this will will put in an appearance v soon..........

Also, feeling everyone's pain on the heartburn/indigestion front - I literally neck gaviscon from the bottle, ran out last night and was forced to crunch on rennie instead, really not nearly as good!

Conanchensee I have low blood pressure, I think I do even when not pregnant but it's always worse when I am, seeing stars quite a lot and I get very dizzy if I try to talk too much especially after walking, so it's been such a relief not to have to do the school run since MIL arrived this week. The pushchair really was all that was holding me up by the time I got to the school! A positive though, it is much better to have low rather than high and my GP said that the single most simple indicator of long life is low blood pressure is it. Also my mw told me I could afford to eat more salt if I wanted too and it might combat the low pressure, last pregnancy I took up a Hula-Hoop habit, not this time though.

Best wishes all x

TheAngelsHaveTheOod · 21/10/2012 15:32

Ooh a birth race .....

4kidsplusbump · 21/10/2012 19:05

Wow slightly that is pretty amazing stuff! Actually I keep thinking I wonder how people manage with twin/ triplet pregnancies, I am so knackered and there is only 1 baby in there - will they be delivered early?

Moonhare so pleased it is not just me with all the stopping and starting! I managed to stay in bed all last night, so feeling slightly better today. I just panic because I am having so many contractions that don't turn into anything else, when things do start properly I will probably just think its another false alarm! Also DH works about an hour and a half away, so if I don't realise until the last minute he may not get back Hmm

Angels I feel like I am still in the starting block with the birth race....was so convinced he would turn up early, but now am starting to wonder Confused . Oh and to make things even better the inlaws are coming next weekend. When they organised it months ago DH told them it would be fine as we were bound to have the baby by then!

SeymoreInOz · 22/10/2012 00:28

Congratulations slightly! How far into the pregnancy did you discover it was triplets? My DS (also 4) seems to have tapped into my fear of the birth and has been saying some very terrifying strange things.

4kids I had an experience like that last time, so much stopping and starting. Also because DD was nearly 2 weeks early I convinced myself DS would be early too. By the time I was a week overdue I felt pretty murderous. I am convincing myself this one will be early too, I need to stop it!

moon DH said you can set your watch to me doing something insane to my hair in the last trimester. Last time I dyed it black by mistake. I've definitely learnt my lesson now.

SeymoreInOz · 22/10/2012 07:39

Whoop! I had an antenatal appointment at the hospital today and was approached by a couple of medical researchers. They were doing a study and needed to recruit some "control" babies, I agreed and then found out I would be given a free 3D ultrasound as a thank you! I'm booked in next Tuesday. DH can come too which is great because he missed the 20 week scan. Grin

CODwidow · 22/10/2012 10:04

4kids feeling for you, I think once you get to your 5th you (or I am) hope it'll all be a bit easier! Smile

32+5 today and spent the weekend on delivery with suspected pre-eclampsia but sent home with the all clear so another 4/5 weeks and I'll be happy for baby to make an appearance but not just yet!
